MegaMan is by far the most interesting character to main, seeing as he plays just as he is in the classic MegaMan games. It's a shame he doesn't get the love he deserves.
MushyBird McMushington I main MegaMan, but it seems he received quite the nerf recently. His charge shots no longer hit under ledges as they used to, which was a huge asset when edge guarding as it limits their options when trying to get back on the stage.

its actually 6 characters of a smaller cast so ya % wise it is more balanced. Also melee didn't have a character that was eons above the others. Those 6 characters fair extremely well against each other and there are also many samus and pikachu mains on top of that, Smash 4 is a joke, Diddy is basically the new meta knight and the gameplay is so slow and campy compared to melee and PM.

I seriously don't get how one can argue Melee is anywhere near balanced. Sure, the top 4 are balanced when fighting each other but that's about it. It goes Fox, Falco, Sheik, Marth (GAP) Jiggs, Peach (HUGE GAP) Falcon, Ice Climbers (HUGE GAP) Everyone else. It's the same four in every single match and I don't get how that is interesting to watch. Fox and Falco are honestly two of the most boring characters to watch for me. Melee is hands down the most competitive game in the franchise and I'm not saying that it isn't. However, Melee is nowhere near the most balanced. Smash 4 and 64 are 100x more balanced than Melee. The only game Melee is more balanced than Brawl, but that's not saying much considering Brawl is Meta Knight (HUGE GAP) Ice Climbers (HUGE GAP) Everyone else (HUGE GAP) Ganondorf.

Aren't "casuals" the whole reason the game sells well anyway? We don't all have to be tournament players to enjoy some game footage, right? Seriously, Smash players hate the word casual so much, instead of playing casuals, they play "friendlies." It gets confusing sometimes. Also a balance patch shouldn't be released every time people discover something new and good. Constant patches discourages discovery and even tho Brawl and Melee went unpatched, it took people years to bust open the game and discover all the things about it. If stuff keeps getting patched, it'll be a different game every time you play it, which is a huge turn off for me.
Salthepal how about this: instead of nerfing this Diddy Kong, how about they just bring every other character "up to his level" that way, people won't have to tier whore because everyone is a good character and then its about counter picks and match ups. Since Nintendo decided to care about their tournament metagame this time around, the patches should (and they have) catered to competitive balance in their eyes. In my eyes, doing a combo that requires a throw- into a jump- into an air normal seems pretty textbook when it comes to the previous smash games at least.

Josh Rose characters fighting each other on a stage with set boundaries somehow isn't a fighting game because one character's better then another? The original jojo fighting game had petshop and guess what, he was more overpowered then almost any character in any other game. Maining Diddy is fun when you spam Up Air isn't it, Mew2King? To me, Zucco won the match, Because he played beautifully as Megaman. All that Mew2King did was cheap his way through, Up Air, Up Air, Up Air.
I totally don't blame Mew2King for playing Diddy, I blame the game. The game is so incredibly shield oriented that any character that can maximize the most out of other people's shields or play a defensive game that helps their own shield game is going to prosper the most. This is definitely the best and worst iteration of smash simply because of what competitive play can boil down to, Sakurai probably gave Diddy Kong that move because the game would hardly move in a direction without it. Players are encouraged to do what's safe and what's safe is boring and inactive.
Great match and excellent work of Zucco in showing what Megaman can do. After his performance I am a believer that this character is viable: good zoning, good smashes, heavy, great aerials, etc. Zucco is so smart its just a matter of time until he figures out how to land that utilt effectively and he will be even beastier!
Man, he works that mega man like magic! I don't care if he lost, but that is some fine zoning, especially when using a character like mega man! I could probably get to his level if my thumbs weren't so uncoordinated, and my quick thinking wasn't so.... Well slow..
People are complaining about how Mega Man is just 'projectile spam' and Diddy Kong is just 'Down Throw to U-air" but what they don't understand is that's how these characters are played. Play a few on For Glory matches playing Mega Man WITHOUT throwing out projectiles. How far do you think you will get? Also, with Diddy you have to do lots of grabs and stay on the offensive because Diddy is light, and he can be easily combo'd and KO'd. Just stop complaining.
5:20 Yo shoutouts to Megaman 2. I had that running on an emulator outside SKTAR waiting for Keitaro to show up (cuz he was late) and M2K just sits down next to me and is like, "Can I try?" and _speedruns_ the stage I was struggling just to get through. Shit was pretty awesome.

Yeah but not all characters have a kill grab or grab into kill option like Diddy.. The problem is that Diddy Kong has a huge amount of options. In comparison to other characters, Diddy doesn't deserve that easy kill option because he already has enough options(in comparison to alot of other characters).
Tired of watching this rain man robot his way to whorish wins and making creativity boring for everybody else. It's an awesome colorful fighting game but when M2K is in the building it feels more like math homework and and bland toast.

I know SSB games are played with Gamecube controllers and all, but I am a guy who is trying out competitive smash, and I really need a good controller that doesn't break down quick. I have bought a few controllers now, and so far, they are all starting to wear out after a couple weeks/months of use. What is a good controller that will not break down so fast and will not have issues where the control stick gets messed up or the buttons aren't too good?
Poke Miner Either get the first party Gamecube controller (+ adapter if you don't have one), or learn to play with the Wii U Pro Controller...those are basically your options, unless you think you can handle it with just a Wiimote or a classic controller that is attached to the Wiimote...
Alright, thanks for the advice +Ontern. I was using third party controllers and I could tell they wear out too fast for my use. I don't really like the Wii U Pro Controller, since I was originally started from Melee.
Say what you want about m2k there is a money prize up for grabs so if you didn't use everything at your disposal to win the money you obviously don't want it enough. M2k is the smartest player out there.
Psycho Teddybear While it was effective and I can totally understand why M2K played like he did, spamming dthrow -> uair is really boring to watch. It also seems pretty cheap, with that not only being one of the few guaranteed grab followups in this game, but it doing so much damage AND being a kill option. That combo is way too good, and M2K's spamming it wasn't really indicative of how skilled he is.
SSJ3Bowser Pretty cheap? If that's all someone is going to do then you know what to look and all the mega man was doing was spamming projectiles. Also you do know tournaments are played for money this is m2ks job it's like me saying the way you do your job it seems a little to easy please do something that makes it harder for you to make your money.
What does M2K use to play? (Gamepad, Wii Controller, GC Adapter, ect...) I'm not really good at playing, but I'd love to know what his style is for this game.
MAJOR improvement from your tournaments on Smash 3DS, dude! All those people who were talking about how Mega Man is low-tier should see your play style, and give it another thought. Seriously, Mega Man has great aerials, smash attacks, and an intimidating pressure game. I think this game is pretty balanced in terms of a tier list though because all the characters look like they have tournament viability :D
I love how Mew2King says they took the skill level it takes to use Sheik out in Smash 4 yet he's playing Diddy, who has the most braindead flowchart strategy of all the top tiers. =/
Mew2king got ways to go. He was the top dog of melee and brawl but smash 4 is a different animal in a sense. Far more versatile characters to choose from and huge buffs on certain characters and nerfs on former mains. All i see from him nowadays is people at the top of the food chain who are more than capable of beating him.
Characters to watch out for in For Glory - Shiek - Diddy Kong - Zero Suit Samus - Olimar - Sonic - Rosalina A far better diverse list that Brawl or Melee. This game is quite balanced but some characters like Diddy have guaranteed follow ups from down grab. The only reasonable counter I can think of is ROB or another Diddy who both can on paper match Diddy's item and projectile game as well as decent aerials. Bowser maybe because Bowser can also just punch Diddy because Bowser is kinda good in this game too but I haven't ran into a good one in For Glory yet.
And Palutina. I've seen this dude named Meme, screw me over with her.. When I was off te edge I couldn't recover what so ever.. But then again that was the only Pro Palutina I ever played.
I wonder if Jigglypuff could DI out of the dthrow uair combo that Diddy has. As light as she is, I use her sometimes because her increased knockback can actually work in her favor. By that I mean, she gets knocked back farther, so she can DI farther away from combos that other characters can escape from. I don't see many Diddy's in For Glory mode, so I haven't gotten to see if the same escape plan works for Diddy's dthrow uair yet.
swagofswey Diddy gets there before DI is enabled, his throw has a mini shock stun sort of effect. DI is enabled at the peak of the bounce, Diddy's jump animation is so swift he gets there before you peak and can DI. I think counter moves might work but Diddy can do more than one aerial attack per jump so he can just hit you again afterwards. Sakurai said no more balance changes after this previous patch too so he believes it's balanced despite characters like Charizard and such at the very bottom tier.
Directional Influence. Basically by holding certain directions when you get launched you can influence the direction you get sent to avoid follow ups or survive longer.
***** If you get launched to the left or right, you can hold either up or down and it'll affect your trajectory that way. Hold up, you'll go higher. Hold down, you'll go at a downward trajectory. On the other hand, if you get launched up or down, you can hold either left or right to affect your trajectory. Hold left and you'll go at a curve towards the left instead of going straight up, so you can avoid losing your stock by going too far off the stage. Hold right and you'll go at a curve towards the right. I think before a certain patch to the game, you could hold the direction opposite towards where you were being launched, and you wouldn't go as far, but I don't think that's in the game anymore. TL;DR Directional Influence lets you go in an arc instead of straight towards a specific direction to survive longer and avoid moves.
Half the ppl commenting are complaining about M2K's constant grabs. The other half are complaining about how spammy megaman is with his projectiles. They're both just doing the smartest option. It is boring to watch but at least M2K tried other characters. He got beat in the first round by constant projectiles and so then pulled out an equally OP strategy. That's why M2K is the best. The W.
I was cheering for Zucco because I main megaman and he's great to learn from. But I don't think Commentator's should pick a side while commentating. M2K is a strong player, (not so much in this match) but he came off as the bad guy there. When we all know Diddy is the bad guy lol.

zucco played beautifully, anyone saying that he was just spamming proves that they dont know anything about fighting games. A "spammer" generally doesnt move around much and just throws out projectiles without much thought and usually will get bodied by anyone who knows what they are doing. Zucco was all over the place fully utilizing all of his tools to limit his opponents options. Mid tier matches are so awesome to watch, man. I LOVE seeing people use actual skill and mix up's to win with not the best characters, it's so annoying seeing people spam bullshit guarenteed combos over and over. It's like how watching UU or RU matches in Pokemon is more fun than the same 12 best Pokemon in the OU tier rip everything apart. It's sad enough that these guys barely play on any stages, but when they play on a stage such as Final Destination, they completely ignore the other 45 FD stages, which were specifically made FOR THIS EXACT REASON.
C'mon guys, try to enjoy the rest of what this game has to offer instead of running around boring single-platform stages. If you tell me that other stages can give other characters unfair advantages or get in the way of gameplay, deal with it. That's what Smash was made for: Chaos.
But the thing is, this tournament took place a day after the game's release and at the time the ruleset was not organised fully, and so perfect neutral stages like BF, Smashville, Townsville, FD and so are allowed.
After S@X happened the viable stages increased:

I totally don't blame Mew2King for playing Diddy, I blame the game. The game is so incredibly shield oriented that any character that can maximize the most out of other people's shields or play a defensive game that helps their own shield game is going to prosper the most. This is definitely the best and worst iteration of smash simply because of what competitive play can boil down to, Sakurai probably gave Diddy Kong that move because the game would hardly move in a direction without it. Players are encouraged to do what's safe and what's safe is boring and inactive.

Great match and excellent work of Zucco in showing what Megaman can do. After his performance I am a believer that this character is viable: good zoning, good smashes, heavy, great aerials, etc.
Zucco is so smart its just a matter of time until he figures out how to land that utilt effectively and he will be even beastier!
Man, he works that mega man like magic! I don't care if he lost, but that is some fine zoning, especially when using a character like mega man!
I could probably get to his level if my thumbs weren't so uncoordinated, and my quick thinking wasn't so.... Well slow..
Megaman is a new character, so I guess he didn't realize it, but the leaf shield will protect Megaman from that combo.
But it limits a lot of your options when you have it out.
People are complaining about how Mega Man is just 'projectile spam' and Diddy Kong is just 'Down Throw to U-air" but what they don't understand is that's how these characters are played. Play a few on For Glory matches playing Mega Man WITHOUT throwing out projectiles. How far do you think you will get? Also, with Diddy you have to do lots of grabs and stay on the offensive because Diddy is light, and he can be easily combo'd and KO'd. Just stop complaining.

Yeah but not all characters have a kill grab or grab into kill option like Diddy.. The problem is that Diddy Kong has a huge amount of options. In comparison to other characters, Diddy doesn't deserve that easy kill option because he already has enough options(in comparison to alot of other characters).

I know SSB games are played with Gamecube controllers and all, but I am a guy who is trying out competitive smash, and I really need a good controller that doesn't break down quick. I have bought a few controllers now, and so far, they are all starting to wear out after a couple weeks/months of use. What is a good controller that will not break down so fast and will not have issues where the control stick gets messed up or the buttons aren't too good?
Poke Miner Either get the first party Gamecube controller (+ adapter if you don't have one), or learn to play with the Wii U Pro Controller...those are basically your options, unless you think you can handle it with just a Wiimote or a classic controller that is attached to the Wiimote...
Alright, thanks for the advice +Ontern. I was using third party controllers and I could tell they wear out too fast for my use. I don't really like the Wii U Pro Controller, since I was originally started from Melee.

While it was effective and I can totally understand why M2K played like he did, spamming dthrow -> uair is really boring to watch. It also seems pretty cheap, with that not only being one of the few guaranteed grab followups in this game, but it doing so much damage AND being a kill option. That combo is way too good, and M2K's spamming it wasn't really indicative of how skilled he is.
SSJ3Bowser Pretty cheap? If that's all someone is going to do then you know what to look and all the mega man was doing was spamming projectiles. Also you do know tournaments are played for money this is m2ks job it's like me saying the way you do your job it seems a little to easy please do something that makes it harder for you to make your money.

Seriously, Mega Man has great aerials, smash attacks, and an intimidating pressure game. I think this game is pretty balanced in terms of a tier list though because all the characters look like they have tournament viability :D

Mew2king got ways to go. He was the top dog of melee and brawl but smash 4 is a different animal in a sense. Far more versatile characters to choose from and huge buffs on certain characters and nerfs on former mains. All i see from him nowadays is people at the top of the food chain who are more than capable of beating him.

A far better diverse list that Brawl or Melee. This game is quite balanced but some characters like Diddy have guaranteed follow ups from down grab. The only reasonable counter I can think of is ROB or another Diddy who both can on paper match Diddy's item and projectile game as well as decent aerials. Bowser maybe because Bowser can also just punch Diddy because Bowser is kinda good in this game too but I haven't ran into a good one in For Glory yet.
And Palutina.
I've seen this dude named Meme, screw me over with her.. When I was off te edge I couldn't recover what so ever..
But then again that was the only Pro Palutina I ever played.

I wonder if Jigglypuff could DI out of the dthrow uair combo that Diddy has. As light as she is, I use her sometimes because her increased knockback can actually work in her favor. By that I mean, she gets knocked back farther, so she can DI farther away from combos that other characters can escape from. I don't see many Diddy's in For Glory mode, so I haven't gotten to see if the same escape plan works for Diddy's dthrow uair yet.
swagofswey Diddy gets there before DI is enabled, his throw has a mini shock stun sort of effect. DI is enabled at the peak of the bounce, Diddy's jump animation is so swift he gets there before you peak and can DI. I think counter moves might work but Diddy can do more than one aerial attack per jump so he can just hit you again afterwards. Sakurai said no more balance changes after this previous patch too so he believes it's balanced despite characters like Charizard and such at the very bottom tier.
Anidav Luigi has a similar kit that basically gives him free followups.

What does "D.I" mean?
Directional Influence. Basically by holding certain directions when you get launched you can influence the direction you get sent to avoid follow ups or survive longer.
Hibiki So if you get launched to the left, you would hold towards the right? Or is it not that simple?
***** If you get launched to the left or right, you can hold either up or down and it'll affect your trajectory that way.
Hold up, you'll go higher.
Hold down, you'll go at a downward trajectory.
On the other hand, if you get launched up or down, you can hold either left or right to affect your trajectory.
Hold left and you'll go at a curve towards the left instead of going straight up, so you can avoid losing your stock by going too far off the stage.
Hold right and you'll go at a curve towards the right.
I think before a certain patch to the game, you could hold the direction opposite towards where you were being launched, and you wouldn't go as far, but I don't think that's in the game anymore.
TL;DR Directional Influence lets you go in an arc instead of straight towards a specific direction to survive longer and avoid moves.

Half the ppl commenting are complaining about M2K's constant grabs. The other half are complaining about how spammy megaman is with his projectiles. They're both just doing the smartest option. It is boring to watch but at least M2K tried other characters. He got beat in the first round by constant projectiles and so then pulled out an equally OP strategy. That's why M2K is the best. The W.
I was cheering for Zucco because I main megaman and he's great to learn from.

zucco played beautifully, anyone saying that he was just spamming proves that they dont know anything about fighting games. A "spammer" generally doesnt move around much and just throws out projectiles without much thought and usually will get bodied by anyone who knows what they are doing. Zucco was all over the place fully utilizing all of his tools to limit his opponents options.

Mid tier matches are so awesome to watch, man. I LOVE seeing people use actual skill and mix up's to win with not the best characters, it's so annoying seeing people spam bullshit guarenteed combos over and over. It's like how watching UU or RU matches in Pokemon is more fun than the same 12 best Pokemon in the OU tier rip everything apart. I get the whole "do whatever it takes to win for money" thing, but damn it's just really not interesting at all to watch or play against.
