  • How hard is CRNA school? How hard is the math? What makes it so stressful? I answer all of these questions and more in this video! I also talk about burnout and what has been the hardest thing for me so far!
    About me:
    I am a 3rd year SRNA & ICU nurse. I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. I plan to continue my travel nursing career when I become a nurse anesthetist! Fitness is also a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. Jon and I own a gym together! We are also foster parents to dogs and (soon to be) children!

      Consistent 30 minute study sessions while trying to balance exercise. Class lecture method. I used to write. I'm contemplating a recorder for fall semester. Inspiration for run study. (E.g. doodle organs, colorful summaries). Motivation.

      I think the hardest thing in school for students is to keep themselves self motivated when things get tough . But rather students should realise when there are tough situations , the tough get going.

    Math was my worst subject growing up. I learned to focus and practice it over and over again to improve. The physics and math equations can be overwhelming in CRNA school but it's manageable if you're persistent.

      Is a relive to hear this… I’m in my BSN second time taking general Chemistry 1 I also struggled with math. But I will try to be more careful studying organizing preparing myself ahead with time management when I decide to go into CRNA school in my own university. This is the goal I’m an average student but I can do so much better if I focus and organized. Study study study! 🙏🏽💪🏾

    Great and informative video! I am definitely concerned about some things in the program. #1 the time commitment (by the time I enter a program, my youngest child will be in middle school and my middle child in HS, oldest child in college). I worry about missing out on my middle and youngest's HS years and all those important milestones in their lives at that time. #2 I am concerned about the grading scale. I tend to get in the high B/low A range but it takes EFFORT for sure. It requires time and discipline and to carry that on for 3 years running is intimidating. Thanks again for the info and congrats on the green badge!❤

    • @TheSchoellerFamily
      @TheSchoellerFamily  5 років тому

      The time commitment is the hardest thing about it but with good time management you can get by! I would definitely ask the school about away rotations because that is very time consuming and hard on families. My school has all of the clinical sites within 15 mins of the school so we don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the congrats! 😊

  • @flippcrazy
    @flippcrazy 5 років тому +4

    Congrats on your green badge status! So cool!
    I'm nervous about the science--chemistry and/or physics. I took research stat in undergrad so some programs will accept that. As far as lifestyle, I'm terrified of oversleeping for morning classes & clinicals! I'm a very heavy sleeper. This doesn't affect me now as I've been working nights since I've been a nurse (it's easy to get up for nights for me) but school + stress + knowing being early = on time in anesthesia/OR world is a concern for me. I worry I will sacrifice sleep to avoid oversleeping, but that will hinder my ability to retain information & perform well. If given my dream opportunity to be accepted into a program I will find a way to make it work, but I think about this often.

    • @TheSchoellerFamily

    Good questions to ask a graduate school program:
    What is the attrition rate? Schools are required to disclose the board pass rate. 17 ppl flunked out of my class (all most all of them were during didactics). The cost is higher during didactics. They had to pay back the loans
    How you determine primary clinical assignments? Autonomy (learning opportunities) will be different at different clinical sites
    Do have rotations outside the primary clinical site? This will have financial consequences. You might have to rotate to a hospital in another state because the primary site can not provide all the experiences needed. Some extra rotations are for regional and are not offered in all programs

    Amazing video again! This is my favorite cRNA/Srna UA-cam channel! One quick question is how do you know you’re ready to take an exam or even to stop studying a particular topic and move on to another. I’m worried I won’t know where or when to stop and will study one topic too much while possibly neglecting another and do well on one exam and fail another.

    • @TheSchoellerFamily
      @TheSchoellerFamily  5 років тому +1

      Thank you Marina! Great question. It's hard to explain but I basically move on once I feel like I understand the concepts and if I am having a lot of trouble I move on anyway and come back to it at the end to avoid running out of time for everything else.

    I’ve been thinking about CRNA school instead of med school. I think I would like it more and I don’t have a problem with math. I def will need to work on test taking strategies and controlling my anxiety lol. But I feel like this would be a more enjoyable path for me and less time and student debt which is important to me as well!

    there how difficult this job is so simple turkey. After graduating from high school, you can study in an anesthesia program for 2 years and start working. I started working at the age of 19. but it was more practical than theoretical lessons. We worked in the operating room for 8 hours every day during the internship.
    I think our education system is so weak than yours. Yours system better than us and CONGRATULATIONS 💕

    Hi Rhianna, I'm getting nervous starting CRNA school this June.
    My biggest concern is test taking (anxiety) and time management.
    Any tips on how to not over study and not retain info? Basically how to dissect the work and be efficient and successful. 🙃
    Also congratulations on getting to 3rd year!!!! ❤

    • @TheSchoellerFamily
      @TheSchoellerFamily  5 років тому +2

      I get test anxiety too but I've found meditating or doing yoga the morning of an exam helps me calm my mind. As for retaining info my best tip is stay ahead with studying. Waiting until the last minute and cramming doesn't work well for the heavy workload. You'll do great!!! I'm so excited for you!!

    Same grading scale as my accelerated BSN. It seems there are a lot of similarities in terms of time management, stress, discipline, motivation, etc. Obviously not as rigorous academically, but I'd like to think that doing a BSN in 12 months gave me a glimpse of what the demands of CRNA school might be like.

      Kizzy Hammond I’m not sure how many prerequisites you have done for nursing school but with your healthcare background you should have no problem managing an accelerated nursing program and be done with that in a year. You also may be able to get an ICU job as a new grad with your work background. You need 2 years minimum for CRNA which is a 3 year program. So you could be a working CRNA before you’re 50! Plus the time is going to pass anyways, might as well spend it working towards your goals :)

    I'm in an ADN and concurrent BSN fast track program, just starting 2nd semester of 6. I am considering CRNA, but it will require a DNP by the time I get to that point (regulations changing in 2025 I believe). A couple questions: 1. Would you still go for CRNA if it wasn't a MSN anymore but a DNP? and 2. What MSN would you recommend as the step between BSN (I'm planning on ICU and travel ICU experience) and the DNP? I feel PMHNP is more attractive to me than FNP, but it doesn't seem as aligned with the goal of CRNA.

    I don't think you will either see this comment under this video, but its worth a shot anyway.
    I am in my second to last year of school (year 12 out of year 13) and I very strongly believe that I was meant to become a nurse as I like helping others. However I dropped math and science this year because I believed at the time I would work in the film industry. (I no longer want to) I know my strongest math is like algebra and my strongest science is biology...but I don't think I will ever make it into becoming a CRNA because of the stupid decision I made. Anaesthetics and medicine has always interested me deeply and I have always been able to pick things up very quickly, I really want to go into the medical field however I do not know what to do and I am really stuck because I don't do the the two main subjects to require me getting into a certain medical college in my country..so its pretty impossible to become a CRNA with my current situation right?..I'm just stuck and I don't know what to do. help???

    Hey Rhianna- so when you did the math, you didn't explain if you are using a formula or dimensional analysis or a proportion or a division factor. So I'm confused as to how you knew what format to plug your numbers in so you could calculate. Also, it's probably explained in another video, but if I haven't seen all of them and just have a few minutes to watch one, could you add some background plz and don't assume I know what you are talking about? You talk about "this school". What school? And what is CRNA? I googled it so I know its in anesthesiology, but if you are in nursing school, why are you only focused on one area? Is it a separate school on TOP of nursing school? Do you pick a field before nursing school and that's like "your major"?
