My dad and I ended up buying a couple of these. One of the best purchases made! Great rifle! Easy to shoot, load/unload. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a nice .22 rifle.
Update: I have since bought one of these, and I can honestly tell you, this is a sweet .22 repeater, it's great for plinking and simple target shooting. ( Another gun that Sootch00 'made me' buy! )
I had the 702 version of this one a few years ago. Out of the box the barrel was crooked, shot ok with a scope, no go with the iron sights. Contacted Mossberg and they replaced the barrel and gave me 2 extra magazines for the inconvenience. It actually shot better with the new barrel than before. Good customer service, imo...
I've had one for several years. I love this gun. You can shoot it outdoors with no hearing protection. Very accurate, and I actually found 20 round clips for this gun. Bought a couple.
CCI stingers, 1600 feet per second, they actually carry a bit of energy, not quite 9mm numbers, but creeping up there energy wise, with the high velocity.
@@Internaught-The-Wise He just means raw muzzle energy, not velocity. Stingers are much faster than your average 9mm round, but the bullet is also significantly lighter, so they still don't pack as much of a punch as 9mm
Back in 1969 or 70 I bought a Rossi model 62 22LR because it looked just like the Winchester I had owned before that. I still have it and it is just as reliable as the Winchester. Great squirrel gun.
You can lock the bolt back by pulling the cocking lever to rearward position and pushing the cocking lever toward the firearm. Makes taking the empty mag out much easier. Just thought I'd share
Buddy of mine has a 702 plinkster, everyone hates the mag release, and he just taught me that yesterday haha. I always saw the arrow on the charging handle, but I never realized it was an instruction hahaha
I really like the amount of detail that you go into for your videos. I purchased this thing a while back ago thinking it was just a cheap plinkster and it is, but it’s also an extremely reliable and well operating rifle and you can’t beat that price. This may not have all the bells and whistles but it’s still a quality firearm. The only thing you didn’t mention, which you’re probably aware of, is the manual bolt hold open that it has. When you pull the charging handle all the way back and then you press it in towards the receiver it will keep the bolt recessed for cleaning or inspection.
Nice. Remarkable accuracy. And THANK YOU for testing the RIFLE's accuracy from a solid rest. So many reviewers test "accuracy" shooting offhand with rifles and pistols. This tells us NOTHING about the accuracy of the GUN. This is one of those "why not" rifles to have. I have a couple extra scopes in my safe looking for a home. I may just have to go pick one of these up.
I bought one today and put about 400 rounds through it with no failure. That’s amazing for a .22 lr. Love the sights too. I honestly might like it more than my ruger 10/22

@@barryfields2964 I picked up a 702 from Walmart for around $120. Decent little rifle but seems to be prone to stovepipes, especially when rapid firing.
For anybody coming across this review that might be considering buying one of these. If you want to save yourself the issues of misfeeds and have proper gun operation from the start follow the manual that comes with the rifle. It tells you to basically clean off the oil in and on the rifle, clean the barrel, and lubricate it with actual gun oil. If you really want to, take it apart and just wipe it off and give it a CLP treatment and it should be good to go. The oil they coat it with is to prevent rust, much like a brake rotor, but it is very sticky and not very lubricating. Trust me, it's worth the 20 minutes. I use Gun grease on the bolt and slide surfaces (Mil-Comm TW25B) and light gun oil on the trigger andhammer springs and pivots as well as the striker. If you are going to be using it in cold weather, skip the grease and use straight gun oil.
@@chadhaire1711 On the springs and pins they pivot on. These locations are recommended for lubrication with a light oil by the manufacturer in the manual it comes with. Who's the idiot? Thanks, have a nice day. (Try reading harder next time.)
I know this video is a few years old, but I just finally bought one for $109.00. I consider myself a flea market collector of 22 rifles. I have everything from an old Glenfield Marlin bolt action that cost a few dollars, Henry's for silhouette shoots, to a Bergara B14R and a bunch of modded out Ruger 10/22's in the $1000's. I love shooting 22's of all kinds. I actually love this little rifle for the money. I have made it my "truck gun". I bought an extra mag, put a cheapie Tasco scope on it, and have a couple of bricks of ammo in the truck. It shoots the same groups that you were shooting. I'm sure Rossi sent a couple that they knew would be accurate, but mine was off the shelf and straight from the store. Best $100 I ever spent on a 22.
Mine came factory threaded muzzle , only issue I've had was a twig or something busted the front fiber , acurate and fun Bought the RS22M Magnum same day , love it even more , had a odd issue with it though , went to pull the charging handle and it flat out disappeared inbetween mags one day , when putting the replacement it I can see why , it kinda just lays in there with a slot/hook , but I flat out love it. Put a Sig scope on it
This gun seems a bit boring - If I was going with a cheaper 22 option - I think I would recommend the Marlin 60 it has history and character. If you prefer a magazine option go with the Marlin 795. If you have more money that you need to spend go with the Ruger 10/22.
Fman1292 - have you ever shoot a Marlin? They are freakishly accurate, made in Merica, and about the same price when bought on sale. (Maybe few bucks more)
Put a 9times scope on mine and I've shot roughly 400 rockchucks with it. It works for me mainly because it fits easy in my truck and is also light. I can bring it around and put it out the window safely. It's easy to break down and clean with a little common sense.
Something to look at if you are having failures to feed. I discovered that at the back of the magazine, where the bolt slides in to strip a new cartridge, there was a bit of a "tab" or protrusion in the middle of the slot. I could see from the wear that the bolt was contacting this slightly. I filed it down. While this has not solved all the failure to feed issues, it seems to have made a definite improvement.

Asides from the stock and charging handle, this rifle is a Mossberg 702 Plinkster. When I first saw this rifle in May, it sort of explained why walmart clearanced out their 702 plinkster inventory. FYI the 25 Rd magazine is insanely difficult to fit 25 rds in it.
Luke Tilley really? Sounds like I’m going to have to try this 597...(my 10/22’s got a fabulous aftermarket barrel in a Boyd’s stock & is much more accurate than I am)-even out to 200 yards. If the Remington with the bull barrel can do the same then it would deserve a nicer stock-I’m not a fan of plastic rifles. If you’re right then that’s fantastic news for Remington...and egg on my face!

Yes, this has been a great little gun for $99. Did not have a lot of luck with the MB 702x25 mags. Hard to load past 22-23 rounds, top round (#25) initial feed problem, and internal mag spring catches around 12 or 13. Got 6 mags, all similar probs. Clean & oil, a little better. Still, great gun.

(Try reading harder next time.)
thanks Oddball
Mine came factory threaded muzzle , only issue I've had was a twig or something busted the front fiber , acurate and fun
Bought the RS22M Magnum same day , love it even more , had a odd issue with it though , went to pull the charging handle and it flat out disappeared inbetween mags one day , when putting the replacement it I can see why , it kinda just lays in there with a slot/hook , but I flat out love it.
Marlin 795!!
Fman1292 - have you ever shoot a Marlin? They are freakishly accurate, made in Merica, and about the same price when bought on sale. (Maybe few bucks more)
My favorite gun shop just had this on sale on Saturday for $89!!! Hard to beat.
Where at
Great review 👍 and...omg you've got that 22 dialed in. I really like my Rossi rs22
Put a 9times scope on mine and I've shot roughly 400 rockchucks with it.
It works for me mainly because it fits easy in my truck and is also light. I can bring it around and put it out the window safely. It's easy to break down and clean with a little common sense.
Thanks for the review, now I’m very interested in this rifle. It looks a lot better in this video than it does on just the online stock photos
As of today, 3/26/19, at least in NC, Rural King has this rifle on sale for $99.99.
I'll have to look it up on there website . I got a great deal on a crossbow from rural king . I love that store ! Rural king is a preppers paradise, I could spend all day at that place .
I turned 18 yesterday and the first thing I did was go down there and buy myself one of these. Saving for something much bigger though.
Very informative review...since I actually bought it today after walking into Academy Sports. Glad to know I made the right choice!
I used to have a .22 rifle from the Philippines that looked exactly like that
Edit - Armscor model 20
Hey guys, I just got this as my first .22 today and it was a great choice
Dunham's has them for $114.99 and a $25 mail in rebate right now from Rossi, so $90 all in! Can't wait to take mine out and shoot it.
Bought mine from them
Rossi RS22 vs Mossberg 702…what say ye?
I don't have a Dunham's here in Arizona 🙁
I just found one of these brand new at a gun show and even found one of the 25rd Mossberg mags - what a great little plinker for the price
$100.00 out the door cost if you wait for the sale. Fantastic little 22lr. Accurate and light weight.
Great rifle
sootch00 I take all of your great reviews and explanations of differnt rifles and pistols this month after watching you channel I bought a Canik tp9 sf,great money gun also just got Taurus TX 22 for wife and wanting a less expensive 22 lr picking up Rossi rs 22 for $177 all because of Your expert coverage really want to thank you Tucson Tim
I've owned a savage 64 before. Good little rifle also
They have it in a takedown model now. Way less than the Ruger. Good rifles.
Thank you , you've helped me make my mind up , was thinking about buying a Ruger but , I saw a video on this gun last week an have watched several , now I'm getting one with a few extra mags !
with the exception of the mag release, it looks like and reminds me of the old Marlin model 70's.
Bought mine for 100 bucks and love it. It came with 2 mags.
I believe Rossi makes the Mossberg version. Good rifle. Got one at Academy in one of those two for one deals.
I bought one today in FDE from Sportsmans Warehouse in COLA for $129+tax. Your review was the decider on buying it.
Looks exactly like a Marlin I had,M1 carbine styled.
Just picked one up for my 9 year old sons birthday haven’t shot it yet but it looks cool
Just got it for $89 on Black Friday. It was definitely an impulse buy, but this review made me feel better about it!
Just saw these local and looked up a review video. Nice looking firearm. I really like the sights on it.
Good stuff.
Found out that from October 25th till the 31st if you reserve the Taurus TH9C for $299.99 through Academy Sports online for November 12th through 18th in store pickup you'll get the Rossi RS22 free.👍 I would post the link but due to UA-cam policy 😞
Now that's a sweet deal! Thanks Brother!
I have 2 25 magazines coming and the 702 plinkster stock by promag coming!!!! Can't wait till they're delivered
Magazines came! Stock should be her tomorrow
Just bought this rifle (my fist gun I've ever owned)
Looking forward to trying it out.
Hey mike just got one today I got a question is your charging handle loose on yours? Mine is loose with forward but when locked back it’s not?
Asides from the stock and charging handle, this rifle is a Mossberg 702 Plinkster. When I first saw this rifle in May, it sort of explained why walmart clearanced out their 702 plinkster inventory. FYI the 25 Rd magazine is insanely difficult to fit 25 rds in it.
Great little rifle, pack up the 25 rounder, and leave it for a week. It helps with loading and feeding.
You should do a comparison video against the 10/22
J Yang lol
@@abcdaw22 : Classy response, what are you 12?
@@abcdaw22 : Yep just as I thought! LOL
It doesn't take much to outperform a 10/22. I have cheap Remington 597's because, they are way more accurate than a ruger!
Awesome we gun. I got my one bout 4 years ago. Mine was a package dealin New Zealand. It come with a 4x32 scope mounted on a pikitini rail , screw on suppressor and 2 x mags.It was about $220 us dollars equvilent back then.
I own a Ruger 10/22 but for $120 I feel like I need one.
Quanto custa este rifle da marca rose.
For that price I'm getting 3!
@@regularfather4708 I just picked one up for $99 out the door at academy
($99 + $10 background fee + tax minus 15% coupon minus 5% charge card discount).
same here! Just as an "up North" beater. Leave it in the cabin and not worry about it.
Yeah with the higher capacity magazine it'll keep right up with the 10/22 all day long for cheaper price it's a pretty neat gun I put close to a thousand rounds through it flawlessly
Such a cool carbine. I would enjoy shooting that right now! Would love to give it as a Christmas gift to my nieces/nephew.
Not sure which I'd rather have this or ruger 10/22? I'm buying one sooner than later, but after watching the video I'm steering towards the Rossi! Great video! 👍
7/6/2019 Those are on sale at a nearby sporting goods store for $91--went and got one!
misharyutubbee I got mine for 89 bucks on New Years with 1400 rounds for 40 bucks...
Felt like I was robbing the place!
Just bought one just like the black one yesterday, put a scope on it and shot it.it would not shoot cci ammo it jammed and would not shoot any but it shot Remington lightning 40 grain ammo with no problems,do not know why cci jams with it but I'm not a gunsmith.but it shot great and at 25 yards just like him with one of my bipods on it I shot the center of the bulleyes out with 5 to 8 shots no problem, just glad I bought 1000 rounds of Remington lighting 22lr shells.and just like him my scope was to low so I was lucky I had a set of extra high 22 dovetail scope mounts to clear the back sights, love the gun super light be great for plenking and squirrel hunting to just make sure you you have extras I'm different ammo makes!!!!!
Bought 2 of them for $99.00 each.
Perfect for the kids as an entry rifle. Kids will now learn the age old skills from our forefathers.
Safety, hunting and marksmanship.
Great, accurate and wont break the bank.
I just ordered on for pick up in my shop, Cant wait for it to be ready. Been excited to get it.
I picked up one of these for $80 at pawn shop 2 weeks ago and it’s been a great little rifle
The day the grid breaks... the day when civil unrest escalate to a full-fledged war makes you question when it is safe to sleep... you can chose the government to protect you... or yourself with a simple .22 rifle like this.
Should that day come to be someday... I can only hope I come across your crew Sootch, you know what you are doing, and I wouldn't mind learning a thing or two from you in person
just picked one up at R&K guns for 107, didn't need one but for 107 i couldn't say no. also picked up 2 mossberg 10 rd. magazines on ebay shipped for 35 bucks so i should be set.....hope it turns out to be a good 22.
Arma linda,e eficiente!!!
Bom video de apresentação!!!
Just purchased one today $89.99 on sale from $129.99 at my LGS For $90 I could not resist.
What store is that
@@mrcwoodworks4523 BI-Mart in Oregon.
I'd like to see a review of the .22 Magnum. There hasn't been a .22 Mag rifle in quite some time (that I'm aware of) that isn't a bolt action.
Bought one last month. First rifle. Am shooting VERY well with it!
Great review!! Could you do a video about making a comprehensive firearms system. What are the firearms that everyone show own? pistol, shotgun, rifle, etc. Thanks!!!
Thanks CYA! I've talked about it in the past but it's time to talk about it again. I appreciate the inspiration!
Wish I saw this gun before buying my 22. Looks awesome.
