Hi from Melbourne, Australia. I used to ride (just galloping around a farm on an ex polo pony and trying to out run the swooping magpie each spring) and cannot get over how big these jumps are the talent that horse and rider have. I have just Googled Paul and saw that he has won a Badminton. Well bloody done! We never hear of Australian horse achievements , or about our NZ cousins either which is very annoying as they deserve recognition for their efforts. Instead we hear for a week about an AFL player who’s stubbed their toe and will be out for a month…..Anyway, well done to all Aussies and Kiwis who are overseas champions, not only the horsey ones but to all the others who do well internationally that we never hear about. ❤

Like the centered helmet cam much better than those off to one side! Definitely learned the importance of choosing visual markers for jumping lines by watching this!

These courses are breathtaking, must feel like you're flying over these jumps, riding a horse like that 😏

The combination in the lake had me absolutely flabbergasted with the turns and height and width.

Gave me a whole different perspective on how long the horse and rider are at full gallop with immense, difficult jumps coming up. Wow!!!

They are vast...I am 5'8'' and can barely see over the tops [spectator] they appear much bigger in reality than they do here. Not only are they vast, but wide, and technically difficult. Takes a superb horse and rider to do well :)

wow... who else felt liek they could here the horses hooves, pounding, its mane, whipping your face, and then you realize your trying to do 2-point up the hills and keep your balance over the jumps?? XD

Horsey Anna I think the max height is 1m40 but there very wide as well

  • @lisar9425

Tell us the fence dimensions-it would help hook more Americans on watching eventing. These are ginormous, intimidating obstacles-up to 4+ feet high and 6 feet wide-but the helmet cams and the horses make them look smaller. (The only time any camera anywhere makes anything looker SMALLER!) You’d never think some of these fences have six foot spreads unless you see an average human standing next to them. Americans don’t realize how brave you have to be to ride a horse at full gallop (20 mph??) towards a solid obstacle. Eventing is not for the faint of heart.

Fact is, more penalties these days for going too fast. True that. I miss old school eventing. War of attrition? Yup. Probably. But you cannot make a horse jump or gallop this way. It's a partnership. Who says otherwise has never ridden. Sorry Paul. Sometimes my virtual soap box gets in the way. Before cellphones, I rode collecting jump sheets from x-country back east--Ledyard, etc--and my 14 hand pony got so hopped up he was jumping Intermediare fences backward. Guess what I am trying to say to the novice viewer? When they want to, they WILL. JUST HANG ON
