Interesting list. In a ymmv chore-turned-hobby, the amount of choices we have these days are many. Being a vintage razor collector & user myself, I must admit to having the Rockwell on my radar. Fun video imho!
Great Video. The Carbon Cx-Ti/Web with a Gilette Nacet blade is my personal third best Razor. I like the Blackland Blackbird ti with Personna Lab Blue blades a little better. If you love efficient razors, you are going to love the Tatara Nodachi Ti razor made in Portugal. I use the Nodachi with the Tatara blades, OC interestingly often a little better, than closed comb. With best regards from Germany
Thank you I appreciate you watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Basically what I do is I disassemble the razors after each shave rinse it off. Really good and use a polishing cloth to dry it after each shave once it’s fully dried by then put it back on the shelf. At times of The Razor gets a little gunked up you can use dish detergent with a soft toothbrush and clean the handle and the rest of the razor and that usually gets it perfect. Hope that helps.
Had to throw my Top ten out since i dont have a YT channel. Nice list mike Drakkant TI Apex SS Tatara Masamune with nodatchi top cap Blutt 1.2 Kopperkant + Overlander Bison Greencult 2.0 Christopher Bradley SS TRC SS
They definitely start up the UA-cam channel. You can join the enabling crew. 😂 you may enjoy it. You have some really great choices right there. Apex and the Overlander are awesome Razors. Thanks for watching brother have a good one.
I agree on the Rockwell 6C. I have it in gunmetal gray. Great shaver. My other top choices are my Pearl Flexi open comb, The Goodfellas Smile Bayonetta, both solid brass razors, and my vintage Schick Injectors E, J, and L. I do very well with the Schick Injectors.
Thanks for watching really appreciate it, the pearl plexi is actually really good. I like that one. It’s probably one of the best razors that they make.
My favorites are Lambda athena, design 94 titanium, karve overlander brass, oneblade v1 genesis and rex ambassador😊 Travel razor is the design 94 in aluminium
Awesome review. Being retired so is my budget 😜. Never had the pleasure of shaving with hi end razors so can’t compare. My most expensive razor is my Rhodium plated 1961 Gillette Slim. But my go to razor is my Razorock Game changer. I have the .68, .76, & now the .84 plates. I love the way all 3 plates shave but the .84 is becoming my favorite. Have you tried the Game. changer? FYI, I lived in upstate Rochester/Buffalo area for 50 some years. Now in southern Missouri. GO BILLS
Absolutely go bills, yes, I have the game changer .84 and I do enjoy using that from time to time that actually was probably the second Razor as far as stainless steel that I ever picked up. I remember picking it up around the same time as the outlaw three years ago. The Gillette Slim vintage razors to shave well I actually need to break that out and share it on my channel. I have a 1959 Gillette Fatboy that I had restored with rhodium plating but thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. enjoy the rest of your week.
Yea I have since passed that razor on. My Top 5 for me provided a better overall shave and I found myself not grabbing for it. Beautiful razor don’t get me wrong. Just wish it had a little more bite to it. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment
I was finding although it’s an absolute gorgeous Razor I found myself not reaching for it as much and I preferred other razors over the Athena. I personally felt it was a little too mild for my liking in comparison to the razors I showcased in my Top 10.
@@galinn76 I’m guessing that you really Like the Athena. I justified that decision based on cost. The Athena is a lot more money than the Overlander. And as mentioned I really only use the Overlander when I have had a rough shave or I’m shaving every day. I have since sold my Athena so I don’t even have it anymore. For the cost of the Athena I wanted it to shave similar to my top 5 that I shared and for me it fell short so I got rid of it. Thanks for the comment but this is my Top 10 and it’s not one I have any interest to debate on. If you like it that’s awesome 👏🏼 hope you enjoy it for many years to come.
@@LongIslandShaving Oh, of course. That's absolutely your right and I have no intention of contesting it. I just wanted to understand why, after that pompous review, Athens didn't make the list. Now I understand.
I second all of your tops.. my special recommendations would definitely be the carbon (although not mentioned here but charcoal IMHO belongs to the same league).. also the lone star, the timeless slant aluminium & the apex aluminium.. I think we're good here 👍
You have definitely acquired a very nice collection of razors. Lots of amazing heirloom pieces in there. It was very interesting to get to see your top 10 considering how many top quality razors you have tried. My favorite razor is the Lambda Athena.
Yeah, I really enjoy the hobby and it’s something I get to use every day. But I built this collection overtime. Thanks for watching. Do appreciate the comment. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Great review of your Top 10, Mike. I have the Lone Star, the Shave Dad, the Aylsworth Apex, the Rockwell 6C, and they are part of the rotation for daily shaving. I also love my Shield DE razor that I love as well as The Goodfellas Smile Styletto. These are all aluminum except the Shield, which is SS
Hey, thanks for watching. Do appreciate the comment. You got some great choices right there. The Goodfellows razors are really good as well. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Mike - enjoyed the review. I have a few of the razors on your list but I definitely have been very interested in the Carbon. Glad to see it's your #1 - confirmation for me lol
Yeah, the carbon has been a number one for me for sometime as you can see. I’ve used many great ones but the carbon for some reason just has a special place and shaves very well. I particularly prefer the plus plus plate for me, but it’s a really great all-around razor and I love to handle.
Everyone has their own favorite razors based on how it does it for them. Unfortunately, I did not own any of the 10 you listed. I do not see that as an issue but as an opportunity for me to try one of them. Who knows, one of those might jump into my top 10. Thanks for your unbiased reviews and content. Have a great week.
Absolutely and I’m sorry for the late reply. It’s been a little crazy at work, but yeah I agree. Everyone has their top 10 for me. I just narrowed it down over the last couple of years. It’s funny I was favoring more mild Razors in the beginning of my journey and now I prefer more aggressive Razors so funny how things change overtime. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment. Have a good one.
That’s great. It’s a really good price for that razor. If you haven’t used a cartridge razor in While it may feel weird at first ten the technique will come back to you
Very nice Top 10 list Mike! Haven't tried most of these razors but you can't go wrong with anything from Aylsworth. Also Rockwell 6S is such a solid workhorse razor! Have you tried Razorock SLOC? Curious how similar it is to the Ascension DOC. Cheers!
Hey, thanks for watching. Appreciate the comment. Yeah, a lot of great choices here that I’ve built up over the years but I really have narrowed it down to what I really enjoy using. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks again for watching.
Great top ten razor picks Mike. Excluding my shavettes and straights, my top 5 razors are: The Mühle R102 (R41 with different handle), Rockwell Model T ( version 1), Rockwell 6C, 1959 Gillette Fatboy and the Schick Injector I-1
Thanks JT, some great razors right there. I have to break out my 1959 Fatboy again. Not sure if I ever shared it on the channel. I also believe it or not never tried the R41. Was always intimidated by it early on but perhaps I may really like it since I tend to like more med to aggressive razors. Thanks for watching 🙌🏻👊🏻
Don't have many razors but I do have the Rockwell 6c which is my favorite 😊... thank you Mike for today's video... I use to live in Patchogue, moved away in 73 😅
The Rockwell 6C is all you really need and it does a fantastic job. Glad to hear you used to live on Long Island. Thank you for the watching and for you’re comment
Great list Mike. I recently got the jaga pronounced Yaga from Standopolka on Etsy. It’s made in Poland and think it would be right up your alley. I have the lone stare and cape cod and those are the 2 best aluminum razors out there. Also love my .95 timeless as well.
Nice list! The Carbon has been a top pick for a lot of people and it is funny, they usually have sone nit picks about it. One of my top razors and one that I use all the time is the Thorn. I'm not even that crazy about it, but for some reason it shaves great and just works perfect for me. Aesthetically it's an ugly duckling, materials are just ok, but if it got lost I'd replace it immediately. It's just so odd to have a razor that works and shaves so great and I say that it's only good and have it as one of my top picks. Take care!
That’s funny it is true. A lot of people do like the carbon CX but the thorn Razor it’s a very good razor, and I use it often when I travel. The horn is also good for cleanup similar to the artisan club Razors cause you can get really close. Great for detailing. Appreciate you watching and thank you again for the comment.
@@LongIslandShaving I think that they've worked on the Carbon to make it a better razor than it used to be. The fit and finish are much better than they used to be, which was a common gripe. The Twig was designed for detail work, but people enjoyed how well it shaved. The designer really likes the design, but I still think the look could be improved-lol!
Great list Mike! I would say you and I have similar taste in razors. My current favorite is my Lone Star, but I’m debating getting a Ti Outlaw Evo. Would you say given the material that it gives you a smoother shave than the aluminum?
hey, thanks for watching. Do appreciate it. I honestly would say if you have the aluminum and you enjoy shaving with the aluminum razor from alpha shaving works it’s honestly just as efficient so it’s just a matter of the material of the titanium which may make it a little bit smoother, but I tend to think the aluminum is just as good great Shaver. So it becomes a matter of if you wanna have a titanium razor or not as they are a lot more expensive because of the material. Have a good one thanks for your comment and for watching.
I have the Standard and ++ Plate. I honestly don’t think either one is very aggressive. You can get the plus plate but if I remember correct Sean mentioned to me that the Standard and the + plate was not that much different which is why I went with the ++ also. If you don’t apply too much pressure it offers an exceptional shave.
I like middle to low blade feel razors. I like the Rockwell 6s (4 or 5 plate). I have the Rockwell t2 but to me it is too aggressive. I like Henson +++. I like the Oneblade razors. I have alysworth apex but will probably sell it as it is too aggressive. I do have the aluminum ones including the alysworth, shave dad. I like the thorn and twig.
@@LongIslandShaving I have the V1 version of it. I bought it when it someone interveiwed the henson guys and they made the original run (before they started selling the V2 versions).
