    Thank you for posting this. The DJ on this clip is my father - Bob Barnett of the Kay Pix 6. This day is a big part of my childhood memories. Dad died from cancer two years ago. It was a fun surprise to find this clip and hear his voice.

    I wish they’d officially release the ‘Live in Osaka’ recording that was posted here for a while and then taken down again by someone determined to destroy all happiness and joy in the world. The sound quality was far from perfect but it was beyond a doubt the best live recording of the 60s band I’ve ever heard. That honor WOULD go to their rendition of ‘Listen to the Band’ from their dismal TV special but director Jack Goode couldn’t even let that single glorious scene go unruined.

    Davy playing bass. Very cool to see. Micky and Davy really stepped up to make it a true "band".

    A few shots of Davy playing guitar. Or bass? (Peter should've taken lead guitar, Michael bass and/or rhythm, alternating with Davy. Would've given them a more filled-out sound.)

    • @cherylhulting1301
      @cherylhulting1301 4 роки тому +1

      Actually Micky already knew how to play rhythm guitar. He should have taken that spot and Davy, who already knew how to play drums when he was hired (and actually was a stronger drummer than Micky), should have been on the skins. That would also have put Micky, their strongest singer and most charismatic front man, out front. The producers always claimed that Davy would have been overshadowed by the three taller Monkees if he had been on drums. But Ringo Starr was also the shortest Beatle and they just put him on a riser when he played drums live. Why couldn't they do this with Davy?
      I'm still looking for documentation that Michael knew how to play bass when he was hired to be on the TV show. I've read his autobiography and he said he knew how to play guitar and harmonica when he was hired, but mentioned nothing about the bass. If anyone has any documentation about this I would like to hear it.
      Really the only way to configure the group so that the instruments they played actually reflected ones they knew at the time of being hired would be having Mike play guitar, Peter the bass, Davy the drums and Micky the rhythm guitar or playing maracas and singing. But because Davy was set up to be the heartthrob, the musical configuration was set up to highlight him in front.

      @@cherylhulting1301 Yep, Davy on drums would have been the way to go. You can watch the song "Words" from the TV show - that's how Peter said the band should have been set up as. It's cool. ua-cam.com/video/XJJL-clqdfU/v-deo.html

    • @jean-luc.muller

      Probably because video recordings hadly existed at the time for outdoor events, because the gear was too heavy and complicated to deal with (video trucks, big cables, lots of personnel involved, etc..) The only outdoor events actually recorded on videotape were mostly sports (Olympics, etc.). And there wasn't ANYTHING available to the public in terms of portable video recording. Nothing. Nada.
