Hyundai have absolutely nailed the ev hot hatch brief. This is the first EV that I've really desired outside of completely unobtainable stuff like the Rimac Nevara and Lotus Evija.
It may be more fun than even them too!

Unbelievable how a car this big and heavy handles. Hyundai really create something special. Bravo
The low center of gravity the car has from the low slung battery helps offset the weight.
If ev's had batterys under the hood and in the trunk / hatch they would handle terrible.
Kind of cool how that one thing helps, almost accidentally. Helps that hyundai did their homework making a proper suspension setup too!
@@volvo09 it helps there is no doubt but still there is so much weight to carry around the corners and suspension dumping . It's really amazing piece of engineering
They are only 2,200kg or 4,400 lbs. About the same as a Dodge challenger. So a bit heavy but not unreasonably heavy. Plus they've got a very low center of gravity so that helps immensely.

You are totally wrong, it means very heavy braking when the brake lights are flashing means strong and sudden braking, this is probably how most cars in Europe have it.Sometimes the hazard warning lights come on in some car brands.

I am not a fan of ev's at all, but credit where it's due to Hyundai's engineers. That thing is over two tonnes I believe, and whilst the low centre of gravity helps, it's damn impressive how composed that Ionic 5 N is at those speeds and on the limit.
They definitely had the vision of a ev for enthusiasts

They do an ev that almost freakily simulates a combustion engine and transmission. Rather than being a gimmick it's apparently super realistic

Best ad I’ve ever seen for the IONIQ 5, that driver knows the limit of his car!
You can see that he's a skilled driver! The way he corrects the sliding with acceleration, and then braking after that into the corner.... bravo!!
Gotta do it sometimes, I don't like getting on my brakes on most curves, prefer to downshift let off gas get into the turn, and the let it rip. But many many times on certain turns I'd be going to fast and of course you need to modulate mid turn pre apex.
You can see him dabbing the brakes mid corner for extra fun. Hahah and then point n shoot evo style
He was rotating with his accelerator.
When you know how to drive it's alot more fun and if you know how and where to enter and exit a turn using using your gears n throttle you can make the turn sem straight and also fly outta the turn instead of controlling your slide.
Racing motorcycles taught me alot more respect than cars cause you got no seat to hold you in.
The brake dabbing was showing offf mid corner but once he saw the exit it seems a short wheelbase active yaw system is launching the car out of the corner in a predictable confodent line

Any roadcar application will not be instant 100%torque. Consumers would burn their tires within day 1.

One Lap it's and it done for the day.... battery depleted ,charging for 7hours and the brakes will be shot trying to stop all that weight with tyres turned into melted recycling plant .

Eh, the i5N is currently the most badass EV "evo" (first of it's kind) money can buy right now. It really is an incredibly fast and capable car. I own the AWD ioniq5, track days are a blast in it.

That was an amazing run for that Hyundai, especially that first turn, one of the cleanest oversteers ive ever seen and especially for an electric car not bad at all
I think when the brake lights flash it means he’s braking with the electric motor rather than the brake pedal. It’s actually fantastic that you can race with one pedal
it probably just means that the camera is recording faster than the stop lights flash (for human eye it will be constant flashing and not blinking)

Hard breaking in most European cars or European specs will cause flashing. My old skoda did this. Maybe that's what it is

For anyone who cares, as far as I know, hyundai is the only car company that developed an EV that allows you to customize various performance settings. They gave it a pseudo manual stick shift with slowing between shifts and sound through engine and exhaust speakers to ease ICE drivers into EV because most nations in the world are forcing it. Hyundai engineering actually cared about their driving enthusiasts. Also, the boost mode brings the hp to 650 for 10 seconds. I'll drive ICE manual cars until they are illegal, then when I am forced to go EV, hyundai will probably be my pick.

I bought an io5 last year, and I absolutely love it, but one thing the N has that mine doesn't is a suspension that can tame that heavy beast
exactly, i did change suspension on my VW CADDY 2L tdi and i smoke a regular ionic.. didnt know there was a N version, thing seems to drive like a beast and would smoke me lol

My RWD Ioniq 5 isn’t that quick, but it’s still great on windy roads. The driver here likely wasn’t braking (even though the brake lights were showing); one pedal driving with regenerative braking set to maximum will show brake lights to following cars when you ease off the accelerator pedal.
