Flood level information has been updated in the description of this video as of 9/30/2024. And yes, I made a mistake in the captions of this video showing 2025 as the year of these events and the date of 1895 for the French Broad River's highest flood event. These were mistakes, and the correct information is in the description above.
Me
should fix the error and reupload. historical event is worthy of accurate date. few will read description.
Stupid people.
Natural selection.
Yup
Boggles the mind how anyone would be driving, parking, standing on this bridge after watching videos of flood waters washing away so many bridges.
Right these bridges collapse under all that water! That's a BIG No for me!
Illiterate.
Cannot fix stupid... 😶
My thoughts exactly 😮
That's what I was going to say! Real dumb.
Who else is watching this and yelling, "Get off the bridge!"
Yes!!! So scary.
The same person that was yelling everyone on the 107
All of us!
Yes u are correct.
Crazy to stand on that bridge!
I’m so sorry for all the devastation in your area. Heartbreaking.
Thanks.
Thank you!!!
💔 ❤️🩹 ♥️ We are TN Volunteers and so many are volunteering to help. I’m a grandma/great grandma and keep the babies for my daughter / grandchildren volunteer in Erwin. My granddaughter in the medical field has been spiritually impacted by what she’s seen. My grandson is a volunteer firefighter, EMT field and a works in a federal government ammunition plant as a firefighter, my granddaughter-in-law is a dispatcher. They are all helping on Erwin TN
My Dad helped build the Nolichucky Dam.
With all the pressure it has withstood, all those men that worked on it did an incredible job!!!!
God gave them wisdom to build it strong enough to withstand all these years to high pressure.
Right now??@@starfishjennie
5:19 so, is there still a TVA? I knew of it of course from the 30’s, 40’s. What is the large building beside the dam? With the 4 stacks on the roof? It is amazing the dams lasted this long, no one back then envisioned this type of flooding in the mtns. Those were some tough hombres who built our infrastructure back in the early 1900s.
I do think though we need to look to the Romans’ for better concrete. Some of it in Italy still holding up after a couple thousand years. Comparatively, modern stuff is worthless.🫣
I said we need to give a shout the people and engineers at TVA for real these people did have and continue to do their jobs all day everyday.
@@starfishjenniethank you expert

The onlookers have great faith in the bridge. Yikes!
Because those things never, ever collapse. They are especially structurally sound in the midst of a massive flood with detritus slamming on to it. Things like, oh, massive oak trees.
I thought that too! It’s the LAST place i would want to be!!
Elizabethton TN here. I'm 10 miles east of Elizabethton, 1/2 way up a mountain. Other than no electric and phone for a day, and a huge mature Walnut tree falling across my lawn, I'm fine, but Elizabethton and surrounding areas were hit hard. Houses floating down rivers, bridges collapsing, Interstate hwy 26 ripped apart, flooding in towns, some completely destroyed. Yeah, not good, but the communities are coming together to help each other. That's what Americans do in times of tragedy. We will rebuild, better than ever.
How crowded is Johnson city getting? Can you get to Unicoi from NC?
Not on 26.
We are praying for everyone that was affected by the storms. God bless you all and I hope you get everything that you need quickly. Here in Alabama we know what it's like and it's no fun so we're praying
Amen great attitude butt when help doesn't come quick enough it can get scary I know I've been there. We are praying for quick responses to get everybody everything they need
I'm over in Bristol. We got some big wind, but not much else. I've heard Damascus got flooded pretty badly.
May God help all the residents in Tennessee who are in flood zones and answer their needs quickly. 🙏❤️❤️❤️
The destruction in your area and Western mountains of North Carolina is unreal! Heartbreaking truly. I keep praying for y'all.
And very very happy you are safe!
send some money, prayer is not working
I'm in Tennessee born and raised this is the worst weather event of my lifetime . I've never seen anything like it much less the feelings and emotion that cones with it. People floating away so many wothout electric amd homeless now. So many gone forever now. Others had to watch as they were taken to safty seeing their beloved animals drown and noway to save them.
@@caseyconatser7926Word around the campfire is that there's a large lithium deposit somewhere in the area(s) devastated by this flooding.
Dumb comment
Everyone on that bridge put a lot of faith into it's construction, crazy that you're just hanging out on it with all that force from the water hitting it, not to mention the erosion going on under the water. Insane.
No faith or thinking involved, just stupidity.
Glad you all are high and dry.
Having watched videos of bridges being swept away by raging flood waters, there is NO WAY I'd be parking on that bridge! I heard of one bridge that was so packed by sight seers that emergency vehicles could not get through.
Yep, that was my thought, too.
107 was
They just cannot believe it.
Happy you all survived this terrible storm. ❤ My prayers go out to those who lost loved ones and their homes and their livelihoods. Praying for quicker restoration. 🙏🏼
People please do not do what these idiots did and park and stand on a flooded bridge. Water eats away the supporting banks underneath which causes bridges to collapse. This is how to lose your life. Do not do it please.
I work with structual engineers and write about bridges all over the world. You are exactly right. Rushing water washes away the banks and soil around the bridge columns. It's called scour. They are f'ing morons for getting anywhere near that bridge.
You are absolutely correct brother, and I'm not certain, but you just might be my actual brother 😮!
Very quickly at that 😮.

Dear Comment Section,
If you’re gonna get on a bridge with the water touching the bottom of it while watching a house floating your way, we should probably just let nature run its course.

Yes indeed.
From what I'm reading, the people commenting understand this. The people on the bridge are the ones who have not figured that out yet.

what kind of idiots park and stand on a bridge that is obviously being compromised? Good footage though.
Tennessee idiots lol. Trump voters.
Lots of idiots.
The kind of idiots who are prevalent in social media today that put priority of the cell phone and the footage you capture on it above any kind of sane logic and life.
Guaranteed, if the bridge collapsed and he went in the water he would do everything he could to save the cell phone first.

No way!
Right? Clearly they no absolutely nothing about footings. Brutal stupidity in that regard.
Why would anyone park on that bridge 1:04 I’m a nervous wreck watching lol
I just thought the same thing ...😅
Yeah you can vidibly see the water is higher further up looks high enough to wash over meaning the bridge has serious drag forces on it damming the water slightly thats generaly the failure point of anything thats not a dam if nit much sooner
Unclear on the power of water
I thought the exact same thing!
Why y'all on a bridge that has record high water rushing under it?😮 to many bridges already washed away.
Stay safe. 😊😊
Right!! Way too much confidence in that bridge!!
Bridge scour is the removal of streambed material caused by swiftly moving water from around bridge abutments or piers. Scour can become so deep that streambed material is removed from beneath the abutment or pier footings (known as undermining), compromising the integrity and stability of a bridge structure
What YEAR is it..!?
@@Martin-l7hCode in East TN (an area prone to massive flooding which necessitated the TVA) requires extra deep pilings for bridge support which minimizes the effects of scour.
I like the guy who was standing in the way of the bridge filming, if it swung before collapsing. People who don't understand any physics principles are downright dangerous, not just IN danger.
Yall have no idea the danger you were in on that bridge. Not only because it could have collapsed but because you would have no warning at all of a sudden onrush of oncoming water much higher than what you were seeing.
With flooding like that, water can rise 2-4 feet in a minute...thats 2-8 feet in just 2 minutes. Enough to trap you on the bridge in 60 seconds and then sweep you away in 60 more.
This!!

the problem is that insurance companies will increase rates due to this flooding, but this is not just rain flooding from a severe thunderstorm, this is hurricane storm flooding, which is a totally different animal in it's own right. companies and agencies like FEMA need to understand this
They do. They don't care! It's all about the money.
They’ll just tell you, you should have had hurricane insurance as they’re raising your rates.
Yup insurance companies were on that bridge taking inventory. Hey there goes sams roof and isn’t that Mary’s jeep..hmmm.. seems to have some water damage we will have to lower the payout for that. 😂
FEMA is just “public insurance” funded by debt on all the future USA citizens through taxes and inflation.
Stop building next to rivers at the bottom of hills or next to rising oceans. NO-ONE can keep paying for rebuilding in these areas.
Climate change is REAL. OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE!
What blows my mind the most in these videos is the raw energy in that river. The amount of physical momentum and weight in just a 1" slice of that river is staggering, let alone miles of it. Mother nature has got some crazy muscles.
Happy to read that all is OK at the Kraemer homestead. I have friends in Hot Springs that had advised me of the high water on the Nolichucky River and French Broad, and I recalled that your property there in Greene County had Nolichucky River frontage.

I really hope you guys are okay. I saw the upload with footage from the storm... and I didn't know you were right on the Nolichucky River (sp?) - so I'm really eager to see your next upload. I know services... lots of them... are down - and will be down for a while. They are reporting it will be months before service is restored. I can't imagine! My worst storm was Sandy... no power for 29 days - and that was tough enough. I only survived because I had a big 3500 watt inverter and a couple of extra car batteries. I hooked them all up, started the car... the alternators did their thing... and FINALLY I could brew a pot of coffee. I wasn't all that prepared... but you guys seem like you would be better prepared. Just know there are people out here thinking of you... keeping you in our hearts and prayers. God speed!

The fact that there are people out there from up northeast making fun of this shit is absolutely disgusting. It seems every time some state or specific zone of the US has life-threatening events occur and lives of men, women and children are needlessly lost, they find it 'funny' simply over political differences. Would not be on that bridge. The footings were not designed for that volume and speed.
Thankful you are ok. The lord was merciful unto you. Praying those who have lost loved ones in this storm and those who have lost homes and property. Thanks for the update.
🤍.
We saints pray! AMEIN. ✝️🤍🕊🙏.

Most definitely a bear print, stay safe
I have traveled from Nebraska to North Carolina so many times I cannot remember the exact count. Always taking the East Tennessee route to 40 through the mountains and Asheville. I’m watching all these beautiful bridges and communities get destroyed. So sad. I used to take my Porsche through the odd little mountain roads and always would meet someone who wanted to race through the mountains on a sunny day. Like living a dream, only now most of those places are gone. 😢
