To check which Surface pen you have watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/GhPRtdt_duE/v-deo.html
omg thanks for the video! Just updated my tablet the night before then my pen is not working. Watched your video to restart and it works! Thanks
FINALLY! After all of this time I've been trying to figure out why the tip won't work but the eraser does. Good to know it's a hardware defect, I've been trying to solve the problem for months with no luck, thank you!
Did replacing the pen work?
did the warranty cover it?
Now my pen is working fine, Thanks!
Thanks, this video solved my problem after checking the bluetooth connection cheers mate!
After aggravating struggle with s/w, bluetooth, battery change. within a few seconds of your video, I cleaned the tip. What a simple solution!
Now a subscriber, and a "recommender" to my friends!
yeah mine has that exact issue where the side with the tip doesnt work but the eraser does. Good to know that's more on the pen itself and not the tablet, my pen replacement should be able to work once i get my hands on it hopefully!
Did your pen replacement solve this issue? I'm having the same one now.
@@nathandavis177 yessir
Did you just get replacement tips or a whole new pen?😁
This issue is not usually caused by the pen tip. Only a replacement will fix it. The only function of the pen tip is passing pressure to the sensor. It's not an antenna or any kind of electronic component. So unless it is missing, it's not causing this issue. This issue is caused by a faulty or damaged chip on the circuit board inside the pen.
After trying many things, I solved my problem when I thought I might try to change the position of the battery. I'ts kind of counterintuitive. You are supposed to put the battery with the pin upwards. It worked! Maybe someone else did the same thing.
I was writing on a file using Drawboard PDF app and suddenly my pen stop writing clear. I mean, some letters didn't write well.. After almost a year of having Surface! It never dropped or similar. Quick research, found your channel and I just had to removed the pen from bluetooth to syncroniced it again. Perfect as the first day! Thanks!
I got the solution ...
1.- Open device manager
2.- Expand "Human interface device"
3.- Uninstall "HID-compliance touch screen" (could be more than one, uninstall all of them) and "Intel(R) Precise touch device"
4.- Go to action menu and click on "scan for hardware changes"
5.- Repeat the same procedure until you can see repeated "HID-compliance touch screen"
Hope this help all of you.
Now i can use again my surface pen in Surfacebook
This worked for me! All i had to do was uninstall the "Intel Precise touch device" one though. Thanks so much
finally!!! this worked.
Thank's man, after I did your process I had to uninstall my pen then reinstall it, worked right away after that
Worked for me too! Thanks so much!
How would I know if my pen is covered under warranty? I believe it has the same same issue you were speaking of that the pen tip simply stopped responding, even though it looks to be in good condition and the rest of the pen is working. Thanks
Wait the battery is supposed to last a year? I had to exchange mine after a few months, even tho I barely used it
Yes, the Surface Pro Pen batteries of the last 4 years last at least a year. So if you had to exchange your pen it was probably not a problem with the battery.
Thanks for troubleshooting. Unfortunately I didn't bake it in the oven nor drive over it. I'll keep trying.
This helped so I can animate again
Mine is having the problem where someone else’s pen works but not mine. I’ve restarted and updated and everything. What do i do? Is it unfixable?
My Surface pen actually stopped writing yesterday, Bluetooth pairing was working fine though. Just had to take the battery in and out again to fix it. Peculiar.
Battery is probably running out by the sound of it. Keep a spare one handy...
My eraser stopped working, after reading this comment I did the same with the battery and it worked again. Thank you.
Hi, I have a problem where if I tap the search bar on chrome/edge, the touch keyboard doesn’t open up. But if I tap it with my finger, the touch keyboard opens up. I’ve tried everything. Do you have any advice?
My current issue with pen and drawing tablets is the pen tip is only visible once the pen make contact with the tablet. Is there a way to fix this? The tablet brand is XP-Pen 13 and my OS is Windows 11, and I'm currently using Krita as a drawing program.
Thanks
my pen is blinking green continuously. I opened the the battery and replaced it again.but didn't work. what can be the problem?
im so angry i cant fix this im tempted to chuck my pen in the river!
im going to kill someone with my Pen lol ive tried all these steps and still no good, it might be the pens tip though, ill have to try that last thing
have you tried opening your pen and changing the battery position? That's what I did and it started working!
My pen writes a few mm left from the tip. Somebody had that issue and can help me?
Replaced tip + batterie.
I have the exact same problem. Anyone can help?

Thank you! Now it works again.
But before I removed my pen from my tablet it had 62% battery, after reconnecting it only has 12% battery. Do you know why?
Now I checked my battery again and it only has 8% now😟
hi my surface pen don't work. Is it because my subscription to notes or office expired? What are the ways to work it again. New batteries
Hi, I have problem with accuracy of the pen. Marker is 1mm off from where i place
Everytime I try to write in OneNote, the inking is always offset a little bit to the right. For example, I can't trace the grid lines in OneNote; it always goes off a little bit to the right.
I saw this on a colleagues Pro 6 for the first time today. We'll do a bit of research to find out what is going on. I've had a few comments with similar issues.
@@oztabletpc any updates? Im encountering the same issue now and its so frustrating when doing my school work
using my pen in surface book 2 in onenote it has offsets randomly it will be fixed when my hand is on the back metal of the surface
My surface pro pen is blinking alternating between red and green really fast? It works fine? but I don't want all the blinking to drain the battery. I just replaced the battery. Also it was freaking hard to find quad A batteries what the hell why did they pick that battery to use. I shouldnt have gotten this tablet >:( well any suggestions lol?
Hi there, is there a way to turn off swipe typing when using the touch keyboard in tablet mode? I find it inadvertently fragments some of the words I'm typing and I never use it. Thanks
I can't see any way to do it... I've had a look at Typing and Language settings, but there seems to be no specific option to turn it off. However, at many corporate clients I visit this feature is missing. I suspect that this is to do with the language pack optional components. There might be something that you could try with removing / adding language packs...
I really need help...
I bought a surface pen four months ago and I've been using it since then. But just today, while writing some notes with it, whenever I slightly lifted the pen to write down the next letter, the ink would still keep following the pen. ( it kinda looks like when your writing or drawing something without lifting up the pen from the paper) I've tried turning my laptop on and off, changed the pen's batteries and tried to change its sensitivity when writing but it still won't work.. how can I fix my surface pen?
Check the pen tip. See if there's something jamming it. Also check if the tip is cracked or bent. Next, try shutting down and then restarting. And check that windows is up to date. If that doesn't work, try checking the Microsoft support website or the reddit surface pages.
Same problem here
Same Problem as well..
thanks sir
Hi thanks for your video. My pen earaser works but the tip doesn’t function.I’ve checked all steps u mentioned in the video.Unfortunately my pen dropped down on the hard floor. It cant be repaired, yeah?
You can see a video of a Surface pen disassembled and repaired here. ua-cam.com/video/dcvRYTbwf-g/v-deo.html It's not easy, and unlikely to work long term. Sorry, it's very hard to repair such small devices.
Mine is just getting noisier and sluggish, no obvious damage to the tip, but I use the pen all the time in place of the keyboard or hand
Hi. So my tip stopped working after 3 weeks use. The eraser also doesn't work. The top button works fine though for shortcuts. On my Bluetooth manager it says the battery is 82%. But then I'm wondering, can it really detect whats left of a generic battery?
I did read that the pen has 2 batteries. One for the tip and one for the buttons. So if the AAAA battery runs low that might explain the half-working problem. But then why do I get 82%?
Of note perhaps. My Surface Pro 4 froze and I had to do a reboot with an extra long press of the power button. The tip stopped working a couple of hours after. So maybe it triggered a driver/connection issue.
Tried all the recommended hacks, except downloading drivers from www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498
I'm not sure how to identify the correct file though. Any thoughts?
Awaiting a AAAA battery in the post. All else fails, Microsoft should replace.
Thanks for any help you might have.
Hello, following your tips and its really useful. My surface pro 4 pen tip is not inking. I replaced the tip with a brand new but still the problem persists. back buttons are perfectly working though. I noticed that the touch screen of my surface works with my finger tap and I can close or open the app with a finger tap, but when I try to expand or squeeze by pinching the two finger, it doesn't. Microsoft says that the surface needs to be replaced. Do you have any other solution ?
That does sound like a faulty touch screen. Is it physically damaged? Even a small crack could cause something like that...
@@oztabletpc no it's not damaged.
I’ve replaced the battery and tip, and it won’t turn on, it stoped working about 4 months ago and I just replaced it(didn’t have time). The light won’t turn on no matter how I try
I don't have the same pen it doesn't have an eraser, nor the led light thing, yet it has 2 buttons (Circle shape) in the front and at the back, it's flat there's nothing I tried the Bluetooth it wouldn't show the "Surface pen" so is there any other way? I broke my old pen so I got a new one but I can't connect it that's the problem
I just bought my pen and surface pro 7, and the pressure sensitivity isn't working for any of the art programs I've downloaded. Could use some help.
- I've un & repaired the pen
- I've checked for updates
- I've restarted the computer
- I've tried 2 different programs Krita & infinite painter(via app simulator)
- according to the pen settings and an in house drawing app the pressure sensor is working.
Hey, I'm not a digital artist and I don't use Krita or Infinite painter, but I'd start by searching for "Surface Pro 7 pressure sensitivity Krita“ to see what comes up. There were a few posts there that looked interesting. It looks like there might be something that you need to enable in these programs.
As a side point, Bluetooth pairing the pen enables the eraser button to function and the battery status, but nothing else on the Surface Pro. Pen contact, tilt and pressure is communicated directly between the pen and the screen. So no need to worry about that step again.
This was driving me nuts. I got my husband a surface pro 4 on eBay with bunch of accessories and everything was working fine. Then about a month later the pen stopped working. Interesting thing is that it worked fine on my surface pro, so i knew it wasn’t the pen. After watching all the youtube videos and trying everything - I was ready to give up. For some reason I went into “about” display and noticed that the last line on the computer about page under “system” was showing “single touch display” instead of “pen and multi touch”. So I realized that somehow this was a setting issue and not a tablet or a pen issue. I went into drivers and uninstalled the two pen/display related drivers (didn’t delete them, just uninstalled them). Rebooted the surface pro and the settings got updated! After that the pen worked fine. My guess is that one of the windows or system updates changed the settings. This took me few hours to figure out and I was honestly about to give up.
which drivers did you remove? i have the same issue i think
Thank you 5nhbedford very much for the advice --- it worked for me as well!
So to answer JamesE and others gacing the same issue:
Go to Display Settings
-About (far bottom left for Windows 10 build 1909)
In the About under "Device Specifications"
-Pen and Touch (you want) : "Pen and Touch Support..."
To get that
Go to Device Manager
- Human Interface Devices
Look for "Intel(R) Precise Touch Device" - right click and "Uninstall device"
You will have to use mouse to reboot windows and drivers will correctly update and display settings should show "Pen and Touch".
Again special thanks to "5nhbedford"
Dan
so uh my pen kinda isn't properly connecting to the bluetooth, it says to try pairing my device again.
On the other note, I need your help in following issue. My surface pro 4 had an issue with screen flickering or screen shaking. Microsoft replaced the surface and gave me a replacement an year back. But now I noticed that the same problem of shaking the screen has appeared in this replacement surface as well. When contacted the company says that we can give a replacement but you need to pay around $500 as it is out of warranty. I am ready to pay the amount but my concern is if the new surface pro 4 has a same issue then is it advisable to get a new surface or replace this . Please respond if you have time and band width for such query.
I'm sorry, but I can't really advise you. I've heard of that issue, but have not had it on any of my Surface devices. Personally I would update to a new model. But that's me... I hope it works out well whichever option you choose.
@@oztabletpc thank you... Appreciate your quick response
I have a surface pro x that's fairly new, it doesn't have a changeable battery, or at least not one I can find, my pen randomly stopped working and doesn't light up when I try to make the pen discoverable, it had 72% when I disconnected it to see if reconnecting it would make it work, I've been very careful with my device so I'm not sure why this isn't working (i have a slim pen)
You should be able to return the pen and get it replaced under warranty.
My Surface Go screen in its lower part ( about one inch) and its upper part (about half an inch) does not feel the pen nor the hand touch... Although it responds to the mouse in those areas … Any suggestions please ???
That sounds like a physical failure in the panel or its connections. You'll need to seek a warranty replacement if you can...
Hi I have a different issue, the taskbar and all related apps don't work. The mouse in the track pad works as well as a USB mouse, I can right click get some options but none of them do anything. When I move the mouse over the start button appears and spins for a while but that's it. The pen doesn't work at all. I just put in a new battery. I restarted it with the volume up and power button combination. There have a few configuration options but nothing does anything. Surprisingly, in this mode the touch screen works. When I start it, none of the regular icons appear on the screen so I can's check if they work. Help would be much appreciated, thanks
Sorry, this is not something I can help with. You need some hands on assistance. I would go to a Microsoft store if you have one locally, or your place of purchase.
@@oztabletpc Thank you, I have neither near where I live hence my search online. Thanks again.
@@oztabletpc I fixed the issue. I reinstalled the OS, thankfully Win 10 can be installed from a memory stick. I downloaded it from my PC and installed it on my Surface. It went smoothly.
I've been told to check the trigger for anything affecting it. When I write with the pen, once I lift the pen up, it still writes for a few seconds before stopping. Could it be something like dust, and how can I fix this?
It could be that and we found that a lot on Wacom pens in the past. But usually with these Surface Pens it's caused by a flat battery and / or broken pen tip.
Any idea why the eraser on my pen suddenly started being off center? It seemed to happen after I changed the pen tip, but the pen itself is fine. It's just the eraser that's off.
Could you do the rechargeable slim pen?
There is not much to cover, but we did in this video: ua-cam.com/video/GhPRtdt_duE/v-deo.html
my Surface Pro 4 had a software glitch that required me to wipe it and reinstall windows. weeks later, I try my pen for the first time since the reinstall and it didn't work. I replaced the battery, replaced the tip, and re-paired it with my Surface Pro 4, but it still doesn't work. When I click the eraser, Windows responds correctly. But when I draw to draw or click things with the pen, nothing works. Any advice?
@Arnav Vijaywargiya oh sorry I forgot to update this comment. I found the solution:

what do u do when its like

It crashes my Book 3 and then I need to reboot
is there a solution?
Sorry, not sure about what's causing issues on your computer. Here's what I'd check - Apps that are running in the background and at start-up. Check the task manager to see what's using up your memory, disk and processor. Identify the app that's causing the slow down and eliminate it.
I have a problem with my pen, it automatically draws wavy lines when I use it do draw slowly in a line, any idea?
Hard to say without any details. What device, what pen type and version etc. A blind guess would be to replace the battery (if there is one).
i followed all your tips, nothing worked for me. i had this problem 4 months ago and it fixed it self at the same day. but now it hasn't been working for 3 days and i don't know if i should wait or get it replaced
If none of the tips worked, it's time to get the pen replaced.
I need your help, my surface pen just automatically writes down things when I’m just hovering the screen. How would I fix this issue?
Seems odd, but it's usually the battery. Check the battery level in the Surface App or Bluetooth settings. Otherwise it could be a damaged pen tip. It could also be something causing the pen tip to jam on. But in my experience, it's usually low battery.
Hi, my surface pen was about 70% a month ago, now is at 2%. I have had it since December and now I'm worried that is a problem of the pen. What do you think?
Hard to imagine that the pen could actually consume that much power in a month. My first thought would be a faulty battery.
it was just my surface the pen settings drivers werent there for some reason i reinstall my lap and all the settings were all there and my pen just worked
this tool might come in handy: support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4037239/surface-fix-common-surface-problems-using-surface-diagnostic-toolkit
I hope you see this comment. My pen tip wont work. I've done every trouble shooting situation I can think of and the pen tip for my bamboo wont work. I had to replace my screen on my laptop but it still works as a touch screen. The pen will turn on and everything but the tip is the only thing that wont work. It was working fine yesterday but stopped working today for some reason. I've replaced the nip for what feels like a dozen times but it still wont draw anything. Does it have to do with the inside of the pen? Nothing sounds like it's broken when I shake it and, like I said, everything else seems to work on the pen itself. It pairs with the computer just fine and nothing is wrong with the battery. The only thing that wont work is the nib. It's a really expensive pen and I don't want to have to go out and buy another one if I can get this one to work. It's a Bamboo pen. Please help.
The Wacom Bamboo pen can change modes to work with Wacom AES digitzer screens and Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) screens. You can switch between the modes using a certain button combination. You'll need to look it up on the Wacom support pages for your pen. I suspect that's what is happening.
We need a video on surface pen line up when I draw in a natural passion the line is to the right I have to draw in a vertical position for the line to be where I'm writing there must be a way to move it over because on my note 10 plus I can draw in a more natural passion which a small s pen can anyone help im drawing on clip studio
For the issue where the pen tip stopped working but the eraser was fine, did simply getting a new resolve this? I am having the same issue and am worried it has something to do with my screen.
If your eraser works its not your screen.
I recently bought a Surface pen for my generation 1 Surface Laptop, and unfortunately it doesn't work. I've tried everything. The pen works on other Surface devices just fine, but it doesn't seem to be doing the job with mine. I've tried other pens on my laptop, and they, too, have failed. However, the button on my pen does activate the Notes app on my laptop after I pair it via Bluetooth. Any and all suggestions and feedback would be highly appreciated!
Turns out my touch settings were single-point.
Yes, that means the touch and pen drivers are not right. Have you fixed it now?
Thanks for your vids - I have a surface pen 4, and I can’t get the Bluetooth pairing light to come on and the pen does not show up under Bluetooth. I replaced the battery, and the tip is fine, but nothing seems to happen when I hold down the eraser button.
Can you clarify what you mean by Surface Pen 4? Did you get it with the Surface Pro 4? There are several versions of the pen, and the version will give me an idea of what is happening...
Here is a guide to see which pen you have. support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4519767/identify-your-surface-pen-and-features - Take a look at it and let me know which one you have. If you have the pen described "Surface Pen with two side buttons" then you need to replace the Bluetooth batteries inside the end cap with the purple button.
@@oztabletpc i have the same problem. Model is Surface Pen with single button on flat edge ( surface book). When i press to eraser button for pairing there is nothing happen. Also pen is cutting out for 1 second every 10 second while using
@@burakbaygun7882 OK, if you are getting a broken line, then it is most likely your pen tip. Check to see if it's cracked or bent and replace it.
And for the Bluetooth issue, try replacing the battery. Remember, Bluetooth is only needed for the eraser click functions.
Please help! My pen won't write but the buttons work and it's connected with Bluetooth just fine. I've tried removing the Bluetooth device and adding it back, changed batteries, and rebooted and updated my computer and it still won't work. I even tried disabling the pen properties and re-enabling them in device manager and still nothing :(
Does your eraser end move the cursor on the screen? If so, this video will explain what's happened: ua-cam.com/video/91JPHC_tWeQ/v-deo.html
I just got my surface pro 4 recently. the pen bluetooth works fine, pen nib is not broken, new battery good , button to open one note works fine as well. the pen side or eraser side do not work at all. can't click with it or anything, Were not sure whats wrong besides it may be a software problem on the surface pro 4. if a factory reset wont work we may have to buy a wacom pen for it.
Yes, if you've checked it all, it's likely a faulty pen. If you have know someone else with a working surface pen you can try theirs. If their pen works, you'll know for sure that yours is faulty.
@@oztabletpc Yeah, we found it in the end it was a faulty pen. I'm getting a pen replacement for it free of charge, Glad though that i don't need to send the tablet back.
ok so my brother go the surface book from his school with the pen. it worked fine for about 2 years not battery replacement. the weird this is it needed a battery replacement after not being used for about 10 months and so we replaced it but it was patchy then it stopped working. I then used the other battery and still didn't work. wasn't even going into pairing mode. so weird. do u reckon it still in warranty. 3 years maybe???? idk, I will go on Microsoft website and ask for a new one.
Try your luck. The warranty on the pen is usually 12 months (depending on your country). Cool that it lasted on the battery for so long, but shame it stopped working now that you want to use it!
@@oztabletpc guess what. It started working again. I put on other new battery in it and now it works but it is still a bit touchy
hey with all these problems i am wondering how reliable the surface pen and pro 6 tablet are, obviously you have a lot experience with the surface and what dod you think i should do if i get these warranty issues stated above with no microsoft store situated nearby and in a third world country?
I wouldn't say that there are a lot of problems. It's just that I see hundreds of surface pens in my work. So I know what goes wrong. You could always keep a cheaper version as a spare too. The adonit or wacom pens that we covered in our alternative pens video are great. Even the cheap eBay ones do the job. Also, keep a few spare pen tips and batteries on hand.
@@oztabletpc hey you mentioned in an older video (pro 4 days) that you gave your children surface pro 3 devices, considering these are pretty old what do they use now? might be a good reference scale for what i need for school
@@kerbo312 My youngest have Surface Go and the oldest are on Surface Pro 5.

They reversed the orientation of the AAAA when they changed from a four battery (3 stacked small coin batteries in eraser part and 1 AAAA in barrel) screw on cap to a single AAAA battery and an eighth turn cap. Screw on has AAAA + down, eighth turn cap has + up.
We have a video showing each Surface Pen to date and how to replace the tip and batteries here: ua-cam.com/video/GhPRtdt_duE/v-deo.html
I did everything you said, but it didn't work. The Bluetooth button worked, but then i used the surface diagnostic tool and it works fine now.. thank you.
Great to hear. Thanks for sharing.
It's just my pen keeps pen rolling off and dropping to the floor. I did got a stand when I got my tablet, but I don't know where that is now. I it's a been now that I just awestruck numb that I couldn't perceived drawing, so I stopped. My pen looks fine, the nib is chipped, but I don't know where I put the baggy of replacements are. I tried using a new battery if it happened it was low, this is still completely not working. My pen worked a little bit of drawing again, but I'm starting the concepting and haven't drawn what the style is yet. I got to draw some character, but I still needed a shape. I held the button like the video but nothing. I when I checked setting the pen is not there, I never had to disconnect. I don't feel as much resistance where it used to be I think.
Sorry, your comment is a little lost in translation. But it appears that you might need to replace your Pen tip. You can buy replacement pen tips.
thanks your the best

Thank you! My pen writes even at 3mm above the screen. Any help?
Usually that happens when your battery is getting low. Also check that the pen tip is moving freely and nothing is obstructing it.
@@oztabletpc Thanks for your answer, you just saved my life!!!
Thanks for asking this question, I face the exact same issue!
I have a Surface Book. The pen buttons work but the pen won't write. I've tried everything I can think of and has been mentioned in this vid and others
Same here. Had the pen a week, and now the button on the top works, but the pen tip won't work. Hasn't been dropped. I've re-seated it, checked the battery, unpaired and re-paired the pen, restarted the computer using all the methods I could find online, gone into the Surface app and checked settings, etc. Extremely frustrating, as it DID work. Have an Apple Pencil that's been working for years without problems with my iPad Pro. Why can't Microsoft get it together? People have been complaining about problems with these pens for years now.
@@tvdavis - I actually had the Surface Book replaced under warranty just a few days ago because of this. They could not get the pen tip to work. The same pen worked on other devices. Other pens did not work on my device. The problem was with the screen itself.
As it happened this laptop was itself a warranty replacement as my previous one exploded when the battery swelled to the point where it pushed open the casing and I could get my hand inside it!
I will never buy a toy like this again

What app are you using to write in?

I'm dealing with an issue with mine that I cannot find help with. My Duracell AAAA battery corroded in my pen and I didn't know. My pen would work and stop working but I was confused because it said I had 35% left on the battery. Finally, I bought new batteries (Amazon brand) and tried to replace them to see if it would fix the problem and then I noticed the Duracell wouldn't come out and when I got it out it was all powdery-white. I tried safely cleaning and driving the stylus with a q tip dipped in sterile alcohol, straying away from the "important" looking parts inside. Popped in the new battery, top eraser button and LED light working and paired fine with the surface but now pen itself isn't working, responding, nor writing :( Tried almost everything on the book. Would you know anything? I think it's crazy that my pen would work with a corroded battery, but after cleaning and new battery, the stylus stopped working but my surface says battery at 100%, eraser button working and LED. Help?
I'd say that something has been damaged in the circuit during the cleaning process. The Bluetooth component in the top of the pen is separate to the actual pen circuitry, so it might still pair, but not work as a pen. There's very little that you can do now. If it's covered under warranty and it was the original battery I would claim it.
@@oztabletpc Sounds good, thanks a bunch for the tip and for replying!! 🙏🏻
I have a problem with my pen not working on a horizontal "strip" on my surface go. Touch works just fine - my only problems are with the pen. I tried reinstaling drivers, frameworks, etc, my warranty has ended. Maybe someone has an idea what i can do with it.
Sorry, but that is a hardware issue. There is a broken connection in the digitzer. A screen replacement would likely be required to fix it.
i think mine just ran outta batteries..my dad is ordering the batteries for it rn. hopefully it starts working soon so i can draw again
My pen only doesn’t work on power point file and word file. Strange, it works when i write on power point presentation and excel file.
my problem is very strange, it was working perfectly till i touched an interactive tv at the university to signal something to my friends, i touched the interactive tv with the pen, and the pen was able to interact with the tv i mean, i did not expect that, anyways, when i sat down and tried to write, the pen part does not write, i dont know what to do. ive tried everything.
This sounds very similar to the situation described here: ua-cam.com/video/91JPHC_tWeQ/v-deo.html Does the eraser work still, but the tip does not write?
Also, check this video to find out what pen model you have. ua-cam.com/video/GhPRtdt_duE/v-deo.html
I try click my surface pen for 7 seconds, but no blip on the pen. So I need to get new one?

I don't get the option to write in the search bar, yes all the settings are correct for it. It works for 15 minutes and then stops working randomly, can't stay such an expensive device with one of the most important functions not working
Now My Pen can fix, with push the button 10 second, thank you so much for your help
I have surface pro 6 and its pen leaking the ink...it start writing even when it's come near the screen without touching screen what can i do?
I have replaced the tip but problem still exist
That problem usually occurs when the battery is low.
Press lateral button, up button and the point. All about 30 seconds. Maybe with this will write again :)
My pen tip stopped working I tried everything from changing the batteries, reconnecting and restarting my surface pro. Nothing helped 😕
The electronics inside the pen can fail for a number of reasons. Try another pen if you can.
I tried all the steps and my pen's eraser is working and even the top button is... but i am not able to write. Can anyone help me what can i do? I even updated my drivers too.
Same here... just got my new surface 1 week ago (and my pen as well) and after changing the battery, which was at about 5% from the beginning, the pen suddenly wouldn't work anymore :/
If you've tried the suggestions here then I would contact Microsoft support or your place of purchase and have the pen replaced. I've had some reports lately that the support agents ask for the device and all accessories back. Push back on that request if it happens. Just have them replace the pen.
My pen does not working at all? So is it the pen problem? Do i need to change to a new one?
Which steps have you tried?
Hello,
My pen tip is not working, but the eraser does what should I do?
Sorry, your pen has failed, likely due to a static electric shock. If it's under warranty, seek a replacement. If not, replace the pen.
I need your help 😢. Pen was fine yesterday inking and erasing. Today after an update only eraser is working. Battery is fine, 85%, pen not dropped once.
What to do?
I'm having the same problem. Second time this has happened! Last time microsoft just replaced my pen, but this is so frustrating.
I have the same problem! Did you get a solution?🥲
@@amani6587 No, got a new pen. It's so frustrating
If the eraser is working but the pen is not, you have a faulty or damaged pen. Damage could possibly occur from drop or static discharge. If your pen is under warranty you should contact Microsoft to see if they will replace it.
@@oztabletpc should I just replace the pen tip?
What about the button on the side not working? I can't find any information about that anywhere. Mine quit working and nobody talks about it. Please help. I use my surface for drawing and it's more of a hassle and time consuming without it working
That's likely to be a hardware issue. Broken button... Do you have another item to try?
@@oztabletpc item as in another pen or device? I only have my one. I wanted to be sure before I try and get a new one
@@RareBloodyWolf sorry, should have said pen, but another Surface would do. Maybe see if you can try your pen on a Surface in a store. If the button does not work there then you know for sure that it's broken.
My pen is skipping. Thought is was an issue with my last surface, upgraded and still happening.
Not sure which pen you have, but that is caused by a broken pen tip. Replacements are relatively inexpensive and available.
I’m having problems, I connected it to Bluetooth, restarted, changed the battery(it was the right way) and nothing. It won’t work? It might have to do with the nib?
The pen could have failed. Try the eraser end, does it respond?
oztabletpc it does, the buttons work but it’s just when I put the pen against the screen to draw or something it doesn’t work.
@@kanao5139 sorry, I meant does the cursor (dot on the screen) move when you hold the eraser end near the screen?
oztabletpc no :(
@@kanao5139 If you know anyone else with a Surface Pro, try your pen on thier Surface.
My surface pro 4 pen worked perfectly on my surface pro 4 but not any more on surface pro 7. Just gives really sloppy shaky wet ink like brush likes. Super annoying
Check the battery. It might be going flat. It tends to behave a little weird when it's low.
How about falls into the water??? Does still working???
No, it's unlikely to keep working.
The pairing light on my pen will not turn on what do I do.
Which pen do you have? Check this guide here: ua-cam.com/video/GhPRtdt_duE/v-deo.html
@@oztabletpc I have the surface pen 3
I just changed my battery and couldn't get it to connect. No flashing light at all. Purchased new batteries and same thing.....what the hell.
In frustration, I licked the top pen part that has the button switch. Licked the contact and polished on my shirt.
It worked! Immediately! Green light flashes right away. Turns out my second battery in the original package was still good at 100% and I had not stuffed a dead battery back into the package which was my original thought.
So bummer, I now have two brand new batteries in an opened package I can't return.
Original battery seems to have lasted quite a long time. I think at least 4 years.
I only use it as a pointer so maybe using as a drawing tool leads to shorter battery life.
Yep, if you don't use it, it will definitely last longer! Put those batteries to good use now and watch our series on the science behind the pen. ua-cam.com/video/YVjw0TcXlSk/v-deo.html
If you're not using it everyday your doing yourself a disservice! 😉
My issue with my pen is that because it's not the surface pen, I can't find any troubleshooting for it!
Sure, I've found reviews about my pen (Renaisser Raphael 520), but any troubleshooting has only been for the Surface Pen.
Interesting pen. What's the problem? It looks like a few have battery issues which would be expected for the price.
@@oztabletpc I had asked around, I think it is just a battery issue.
I have been trying to fix mine for days including replacing the battery. I finally discovered that the battery was upside down! Always the simple things.....................
I wonder how many have done the same. It didn't help that they changed the battery orientation in the latest pen.
My surface pen is a year and a half old and for some reason it starts writing when the pen is just above the screen so all my writing is blurred together. I've tried replacing the tip, battery, repairing with bluetooth, my surface book is up-to-date. Taking the battery out and putting it back it works for five minutes. Really frustrating! Seems like I'm out of warranty (typically 1-year) so I'll be dropping $100 on a new one... Bummer these don't last very long.
Same thing for me, when the pen hovers on top of the screen it writes. Its not even a month old
If it is 1 month old you should get it replaced under warranty.
@@oztabletpc thank you. I just called and they told me to do the update on the surface pro 7 and that it might work and if it doesn't, I will have to send back my surface pro 7, the surface pen and the keybord cover (because they came together in a buddle). thank you, mine ended up being a broken tip.
I am having a consistent Surface Pen no Clip issue. This is the second time this has occurred. I had a black Surface Pen no Clip and I used it for many many months. Shortly after upgrading to Windows 11 (I am unsure if this is related to the issue), the pen tip stopped working. The eraser would function normally but my Surface Pro 7 would not respond to the tip at all, which did not appear damaged in any fashion. I replaced the battery and followed all of the software and hardware instructions for both the surface and pen regarding this issue. Nothing worked and an article suggesting static electricity could cause this issue convinced me to box it up and see if replacement was an option. I got the pen at Best Buy which has a pretty strict return policy and I didn’t realize replacement through Microsoft was the easiest option. Regardless, I began to borrow my mom’s red Surface Pen no Clip and on the third time using it the same issue started occurring suddenly. I’m convinced my surface might be the common denominator but I don’t know where to start with troubleshooting and I have yet to know if my old pen or this red pen works with my mom’s older surface (not upgraded). If the pens don’t work with her Surface Go I’ll likely replace them and be annoyed by how long it takes but if anyone has any advice or if the same thing has happened to them please let me know! I’m a struggling college student and this surface was a blessing for my ability to stay organized and on task and I can’t afford to have so many issues with it.
It's most likely static shock. Are you using it on carpet? What shoes go you wear? Do you live in a dry climate? You may just be repeating the same problem. ua-cam.com/video/91JPHC_tWeQ/v-deo.html
@@oztabletpc @oztabletpc This has happened to me twice now and you kindly linked me to this super helpful video. Thanks! Do you know of a third party pen or surface pen that won’t have this issue? I think the large amount of static recently in my environment can be attributed to the dry winter weather and my wearing a large coat that is prone to static charge. I just need a pen that will consistently work and I’m not too concerned about price as long as it isn’t ridiculous $75+. I worry about going third party because of possible software blocks and bugs but I think that’s likely more of an Apple issue. Many thanks!
