    I've had my hamster for about 4 hours and he is already running on his flying saucer, going through his tunnels, eating meals in his bowl and coming up to my hand each time I put it in there! And I got him from a pet shop! He's adorable!

      Ollie GGG when a hamster bites you it shouldn’t draw blood unless it’s VERY stressed and scared or territorial (which would probably be bc their cage is too small) or it might not be chewing it’s toys so try some different types of chew toys

      I moved apartments recently so I had to move my little guy in a travel box and he ran around it in circles making that little scared hamster screech (I had heard it on UA-cam but never from my hamster before) when I put him in it. It was HORRIBLE. Not only did I cry but my "tough" boyfriend cried too!! The 20-minute trip to the new apartment felt like 20 hours but we already had his old home set up for him and in a few hours it was like nothing had ever happened but I don't ever want to go through that again.

    One of my recent hamsters had 11 (!) siblings. Most of them brothers, so he was with many siblings until the very last hour before I got him from the breeder.
    I took him home, put him into a converted Ikea Detolf, and watched him.
    He was a mess. He was SO scared, he'd roll over and play dead at any sound, shadow or just... ANYTHING would scare him! This went on, I figured he just needed to learn his habitat. He was in the Detolf for a week, but didn't.get.better. He was a scared little wreck, only running between his house and his running disc, never exploring the rest of his vast habitat filled with toys.
    I was to get another hamster as well, a female. The night before she came, I decided to move the scared male to a Duna cage, about half the size of a Detolf but with a larger floor space. I put his house in there, put in his wheel, a sand bath, a climbing shelf combination, took clean bedding from his Detolf and moved him over. The new female hamster moved into the Detolf. She was the polar opposite, she was gutsy, she staked her claim INSTANTLY and made such good use of her toys! She was cool with handling on the second day, never showed any signs of any fear.
    What happened with the scared male? He went on to be my cuddliest, calmest, most zen hamster ever. He loved his smaller habitat, the change in his behaviour was instant! He lived to be 1 year and 11 months old. I miss him. My theory is that he simply couldn't handle the huge habitat, he wasn't comfortable "lording" over it.
    A lesson learned for future Syrians! They are just such little dolls! ^___^

    I got my hamster yesterday from a local pet shop. They had a winter white and a Syrian. The Syrian was a young female (even though I was looking for a male) I COULDN'T RESIST!!! I got her and LOVE HER and her personality. She had nothing but a water bottle, food dish, cardboard tube, and an inch of bedding. She was healthy and eating a healthy diet so I took her home and but her on her cadge. She hid at first, but a few minutes later she came out and explored. Even tho I really shouldn't start taking as soon as I got her ( It wasn't really taming ) I went to her cadge and she came to look at me. She started grooming in front of me and and let me pet her! She is such an sweetie!♥️

    i got Pumpkin a saucer because she had one at petco. i thought she would adapt better with some things that she recognized. i heard her running all around, playing with toys, i saw her going on her wheel, eating food, drinking water on the night i got her. i heard her at 10:00 pm. she had a very stressful day because after we got her, we had to go to a few stores so i left her alone when we got home. i saw her get up once during the day to get some food and water, so i tried putting a treat on my hand for her to eat. she hesitated until she noticed it was a oat banana treat. nom nom! i thought it must be her favorite. she took pieces off at a time to chew on it. she really liked it! she's a golden baby syrian. i watched lots of videos on wet tail. i'm very scared she'll get it, but i am not trying to stress her out at all. but i did notice that when i got her, she had blood on her nose. she had a cage mate at petco ( her sister) and they weren't even eight weeks old! she was the only one there with Pumpkin, so i think it was her. but another hamster might have been there. i washed up her wound when she woke up at 10:00. there was a little scar. i felt really bad for Pumpkin :( i watched Pumpkin fill her cheek a few times though lol it was adorable!

    i just bought the most chill hamster ever- easy to handle, already eating and on it's wheel- but there's one thing bothering me
    my little sweetheart beezle is pooping AND trying to nest in her wheel? i'd rather her not try to sleep in her own poo. or on the wheel in general. i've only had her for a few days so i'm gonna watch and see if she figures out that her wheel isnt the best place to sleep (or poop), but does anyone have explanation??

      nintenhoe I know exactly why your hamster is doing that, (at least I think so) I heard if a hamster does that, it's cage or house is too small, so you might want to move it to a bigger cage/house. I don't know anything about why it's pooping in its wheel but mine does the same sometimes and I just spot clean it. (Btw I got my info from a hamster ytber and this isn't anything biased) :)

    • @melanie-sy4gx
      @melanie-sy4gx 7 років тому +1

      They might poop there because they can't control where they poop so if they are running on their wheel they might poop but it can happen anywhere at anytime! They might sleep there because there is not enough hideouts for them or even nesting material :)

    Hi Erin. I am a new hamster mama. I have a beautiful Syrian called Lois Hammiton. She is 9 weeks old. She has started her taming now with me and has lots of great boredom breaker toys from viovet. Great site by the way, thanks for you blogs. She put her boredom breaker caterpillar in her penthouse bed. She loves it so much. She is doing a lot of bar chewing and I have watched you video and other but I was wondering if she is doing this for my attention. She only does it when I'm in the room and she is looking right at me. What a little devil.

He spends most of his time burrowing and he is still very active but doesn't use the wheel. (The wheel is the right size for him, his claws aren't over grown, and it is not barred/wired wheel)

    once I was playing with my hamster, she would climb on my arm and hands and she seemed really relaxed. And then she suddenly looked at a wall and froze. She looked so scared and I didn't know why so I gently put my hands around her and picked her up to put her in front of her house. A few hours later she got out perfectly fine. I'm sure they feel like their little house is their safiest place to stay in that's why they wouldn't leave it when they're frightened.

    If a hamster is making its nest in its wheel and then plays in the wheel while the food is still in it, DO NOT CLEAN IT OUT! Instead, try taking the wheel out during the day time while its sleeping and it the food/bedding in a different area. Be eventually the hamster will make its nest somewhere else. If u leave the wheel in there and clean it out every time, it will start peeing on its food, doing its business in the wheel, and continue to play in the wheel. This much exposure to the ammonia in its urine and chemicals in its poop can cause health risks. Not major risks but risks that can developed over much time. This behavior is normal but it is sometimes not a good thing.

    As hindgut fermenters there is a kind of poop that they have that is soft and white. It's perfectly normal for them, also they do eat it, much how cows eat cud. It's how they get the full nutrition out of their food.

    Just got a new hamster today, I had one when I was a little girl and she was my best friend, everyday after school we would play and do tricks, and after she passed I never got another one. My daughter is now coming up for 4 and had been asking, so we went and got a 10 week old hamster from pets at home, I was very happy to see that they wouldn’t have let us leave without a really big cage, I’m glad people are coming to realise hamsters need bigger homes than they’re usually kept. He seems to be settling in great, he’s been on the wheel for a second and got a little fright when it moved and I’ve seen him nibble a few things, he’s very much trying to escape, but I understand 😂 this is all new to him

    PS. I have a cat, and he's very interested in the new member of the family (No access, no harm), but, of course, the hamster can smell the cat.

I'm trying to be patient, but I don't know why she's so mad at me! Is he Robo? If so they are naturally skittish. All you need to do is tame William, start working with him such as a bath tub with a towel down and let him get use to your scent. While working with him try letting him take a sunflower from your fingers and once he is okay with that put the sunflower in the palm of your hand. You are just waiting for him to trust you. Try taking a piece of toilet paper and rubbing it on your hands & arms and putting it in his cage. Not only will he use it as bedding he will get use to your scent. Good luck to you and your hamster! :)

    Well, is it normal that I got a hamster today, after 5 minutes she was running around, eating, drinking, and playing with all her toys. She was using her wheel nonstop. Is that normal? Oh and she also didn't mind when I stroked it with my finger. I'm weirded out because that is not normal for a hamster that moved in earlier that day. It never even hid in its hidey house!! Is that normal?

    • @xxsweetgamerxx8286
      @xxsweetgamerxx8286 8 років тому

      Hamsters are nocturnal creatures which may explain why she didn't go in her hidey house.... I know they would be in it but, they have to get used to the area they are in. It depends on what kind of hamster you get, (although you need to tame your hamster) , dwarf hamsters (especially robo's) will bite. If it is a Syrian it shouldn't bite.

      A 3 week old hamster should still be with its mother, a hamster that young still partly relies on its mother's milk for sustenance. Once a hamster is over 4 weeks old then it can leave the mother and be rehomed, taming a hamster can take several weeks or months so you must be patient.

It's running on its wheel and going through its tunnel and eating and drinking! I think this is because it has been handled by the previous owners and was 10-weeks-old. So I really recommend going onto Pets4Homes and looking for animals near your area if you are looking for a pet.🐹🐹
