Does this list of hamster necessities look right to everyone? 1. Wheel 2. Chew toys 3. Hideaway 4. Puzzle 5. Tubes 6. Good diet of fruits and veggies every day 7. Clean water 8. Time to settle in (3 days to a week) 9. Plenty of handling time (after taming) 10. Clean cage once a week with mild soap and water 11. Quiet during the day for resting 12. Healthy and safe exploration AT LEAST a 360 sq ft. cage
Wisp in a Bottle pretty good although depending on the species the wheel does have to be a specific size and also cleaning really depends on the size of your cage.
Not bad, but you shouldn't be feeding fruits and veggies everyday, especially in dwarves. Fruits have too much sugar, I personally recommend feeding them no more than once every two weeks. It's fine to feed vegetables every week. Also, you shouldn't clean a hamster cage every week, you should usually do it once a month at the most, with spot cleaning whenever needed. If you have a proper sized cage, you shouldn't even need to clean it that much. You probably haven't heard but 450 square inches is the new minimum for a cage. That's 80 x 50cm, a 30 gallon tank, or 110 quart bin cage. Always recommend you go larger, of course ;) Hope this helped!
You should not be cleaning the entire cage every week, because this can stress them out to much. I recommend every 3-4 weeks you should do a entire clean, and spot clean every day;)
I forgot how much my girls love the puzzle toys you make from tissue tubes! I spoil them with store bought stuff but the DIY puzzles are much more rewarding, especially watching the hammies play with/destroy them ;)
I use all three of these toys on a regular basis! I bought a plastic toy for foraging with holes on every side. The postage was pricy but it was absolutely worth it, and he has it in his bin cage all of the time!

The puzzle ball thing I tried it with my hamster more then once then all she did was sniff put her claws on it then give up XD it had her fav treats in there but she still gave up xD
Wow, I love those ideas for puzzle toys! :O I'm always turning empty toilet paper rolls into toys, but your ideas are completely new to me! One of my favorite toys is very easy to make too: I'm cutting two thin rings away from an empty toilet paper roll, then cut the rest of the roll lengthwise. Now I'm covering one side of the roll with a sheet of toilet paper and fixate it by putting on one of the rings. Now I'm able to stuff the roll with all kinds of seeds and some hay or tiny pieces of toilet paper. After that I close the roll with another sheet of toilet paper and fixate it by putting on the other ring. If the layer of paper is thin enough, most hamsters will smell the food inside and do their best to get through the paper. If the paper is too thick tho, I have to cut some tiny holes into the paper so they can smell the food. It's a lot of fun watching hamsters diving into those food rolls, trying their best to find the food while struggling with the hay. 😁
Erin, i watched your puzzle video and it was great! The two i found most popular with my hammie was the one roll packed with other folded rolls and the ball puzzle. The only issue ive found is after a while she appears disinterested, because she knows exactly how to dismantle them now. Any tips?
The puzzle toys are absolutely necessary! My campbell's dwarf, Chia, needs so many puzzle toys she gets bored so easily and ends up chewing on her wheel if I don't give her a puzzle toy.
(sorry if I sound like a know it all, this is a huge pet peeve of mine) Chinese hamsters aren't dwarves, although it's a common misconception! They are more like a syrian, and it's better if they're solitary :)

I’m buying a large cage for a new Sirean hamster I’m getting. In the past I’ve used plastic tubes to create tunnels, then I tie them to the inside of the cage and have it go somewhere. This allows me to utilize the inside top of the cage which would otherwise go unused. Why is it I don’t see tubes in your videos?

My sisters friend basically manhandled my hammy because she was determined to hold Sapphire who isn't confortable with being held yet. When she finally gave her back she was so scared I let her go to early and she fell into her water bowl. I was horrified. Any suggestions on preventing this from happening again??

Gruce Gaming Once you start putting in a different food, start with making 1/4 of the food you feed your hamster the new food and 3/4 old food. After about a week or so, move to 2/4 of the food being new food and the rest old food. After another couple of days, make 3/4 of the food new food. After that you can stop feeding the old food.
Hey Erin, I have a concern about my Syrian hamster -- Her name is Marble, I NEVER see her outside of her house unless I'm cleaning her tank (she has a 40 breeder), she's always, always sleeping -- I'm worried... she is around 5-6 months old

Been looking for some examples of enrichment to keep my Syrian entertained and came across your channel. :) My Syrian has a good sized enclosure (A 300 liter aquarium) with an 11 Inch wheel and a lot of different toys and hides, but he seems to always want to escape regardless (Climbing the walls) and I'm worried he's stressing himself out.. He's a fairly large Syrian due to being bred as a show Syrian (He's as big as my hand!) and I really wanna get him a wooden tunnel just like the one shown at 1:17 but none of the ones I can find are big enough for him.. Anyone got any ideas where to look? I've tried all the pet stores in my area, but never can find big enough wooden tunnels.
