    Chandra Davis was the first (I think) to post the solution to this problem for most people who do not have the obvious broken belt, plugged hose, or bound up brush roller on an AZ series Shark. This fix may also apply to other models. Push the lower wand release to reveal three spring loaded female connectors. These must make contact with the three pins in the main body of the vacuum cleaner. Use an interdental brush or some other tiny straight brush to clean the inside of each contact, then spray with contact cleaner. It just fixed our 5-month-old shark. And no mention of this simple fix in the user manual for the AZ 1000 series, I just checked the online version to make sure. I would suggest an electronic contact cleaner spray or electrical grade silicone lubricant spray instead of the original WD-40 which is mainly mineral oil. Shark customer service is completely irresponsible if they are still not getting this solution.

      I read your info and sprayed a shot of CRC 2-26 on the male and female connections on both ends of rhe lower wand. The improved electrical connection seems to have done the trick and the Shark is hungry again. Thanks!

      So we had a similar problem as in the video, except our rollers completely stopped working, the lights would mainly be off with some intermittent flashing on, then right back off, and the brush roll indicator stayed off. I grabbed isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs. For the connector on the wand, I used my fingers to pull off as much cotton from one side of the swab as possible. Then I dipped that swab into alcohol, and pushed it all the way down into the jack portion of the connector on the wand section, making sure I pushed it far enough to bottom out the spring. I then moved the swab up and down, while also twisting it to make sure it cleaned both the metal contacts and sides of the jack. I used a few cotton swabs doing this on all 3 contacts. Next, I took some more cotton swabs (leaving the cotton intact on them), dunked them in the alcohol, and used them to clean the metal contacts of the plug portion located on the base of the vacuum. I moved the cotton swabs up and down on each plug to make sure they were thoroughly clean. After all this was done, I waited about 15 minutes for the alcohol to dry. When I tried the vacuum, the rollers were turning, the lights came on and stayed on. It was a great machine again!

Other than this issue I love this vacuum. But now it doesn’t even work and I can’t figure out why. Thank u for your video, letting me know I’m not the only one.

    Hi....I had the exact same problem in March/April of 2020. They sent us the part. But currently February 2021, the 2 covers that stand up vaccum broke off. We have placed a call to CS and they are sending a replacement.i am 1st time Sharp Apex user since 2018,and have had issues since I purchased. I had been a Dyson comsumer for over 17 years and decided to try SHARK. The life span usage of a SHARK vaccum is less than 6 months. For those thinking about purchasing a Shark vaccum I would caution you.

I had always had a Dyson but it was over 10 years old so I decided to treat myself to a brand new vacuum... needless to say I am a few years in and disappointed with my shark purchase. When my warranty is up and and the head breaks again I will be switching back to Dyson.

    I hope this helps everyone that is frustrated with the Shark intermittent roller function. Check ALL the male pins on the wand and handle to make sure they are the same length. Next check ALL of the female receptacles on the wand and handle where those pins insert. They are spring loaded and one of my springs was jammed. I squirted some WD40 in the hole and tapped the side with the handle of a screwdriver and the spring came free. It moves up and down now, in the receptacle. I then cleaned the WD40 out some electrical contact cleaner and dried out the holes. Bada-Bing!! Works like a charm. The only thing that sucks is that such a small part is ruining the function of an otherwise great vacuum.

    Potential Solution - Had the same exact same problem as shown in the video. After some troubleshooting, figured out that it only stopped on certain carpet in our home (thick, lush carpet). Took out the orange roller in the front (just remove like you are cleaning it but leave it out) and now it runs like a champ. Apparently, the thick carpet doesn't play well with the front roller and doesn't really do much on carpet anyways. If you have floors, just put it back in. Seems like the over-protection circuit in the lower unit is a little too sensitive.

    • @alanblake7217
      @alanblake7217  2 роки тому

      You are exactly right. If you remove the soft roller, it will work fine. But, that is inexcusable for a brand new vacuum. I agree that the brushroll motor is either vastly underpowered, or the circuit has excessive motor overload protection.

    • @riddlermn
      @riddlermn 2 роки тому

      @@alanblake7217 I agree, you are 100% correct that it shouldn't do this. However, we were about the throw out this vacuum because it was unusable and I had searched all over for a solution. Given that people that had them replaced were still reporting the same issue(s), it became apparent it was a design problem and if Shark wasn't going to own up, then fixing it ourselves is the only other solution. Frankly, I don't think that roller does anything unless you are using it on hard floors (which we typically don't) so for us at least, just removing isn't a problem and a simple solution. Hopefully that solution works for some others as well.

    • @spacemandrew

      Be careful with that. Without the soft front roller , my carpets started snagging. I'd used the vacuum several months so the only new thing to cause it was the removal of the soft brush.

    I found on my machine after checking the two microswitches in the power head, one is for the handle when it breaks away from the power head deactivating the micro switch and there is a micro switch on the right side that sets when the roller cover is locked on as the rollers won’t spin if that cover is not locked in place. Initially my problem started out as intermittent and lights and roller would start and stop but the problem wasn’t any of the pins or connection points in the handle but the wires from the base unit where the handle slides in. There are 3 wires black white and yellow all passing thru the pivot joint near the back rollers. These wires go past the micro switch and all go to the circuit board. The black wire was severed breaking all power to the power head. It was intermittent as the wire was being damaged from constant rubbing at that pivot joint as there is very little room and a poor design by Shark. Take the small cover off the back of where the handle inserts into the power head. 3 pins connect 3 wires black, white, and yellow. Check for continuity from each pin to the solder joint at the circuit board which you need to remove 2 screws to lift out the circuit board. Any of those 3 wires damaged will kill all power to the power head. To access all of this you need a security T-20 bit for the 12 bottom screws and a security T10 for 2 screws on the side covers covers with plastic caps. I used a razor tip to pop out the covers to access the screws. Regular Phillips to remove the handle assembly from power head and circuit board. I repaired that broken wire and vacuum running perfect problem solved.

    Hello we bought this because we have 2 small Miniature Chihuahuas. Both have a steak coat short haired. We paid alot of money and also paid for the extended warranty. We need a good vac and we were so excited because of all the different attachments it had. We could clean ceiling fans clean up under the stove fridge. It said it was for pet owners because of how the beater bar and comb like teeth it also,had. I wanted something that was versatile. Yet I’ve used it approximately 8 times and then it started acting up doing exactly the thing you showed. We made sure to clean it after each use. As we are both retired and there are just us 2 except for the Furbabies. I feel that for what we paid for. It should due what they claim it does. So I went back to using a little cheap bissel smaller vacuum cleaner. Then when Rona came around everyone was staying home and so we had to vacuum even less. So we feel very frustrated. It was not a cheap vacuum cleaner. Yet we figured if we purchased it and got all the attachments. Yet it sadly has fallen short of what we thought was a good decision. Thanks for sharing your story now you have ours. 🙏

    AZ1003BRN Purchased 1/7/2022. Same problem. Had hose replaced 3 months after purchase. On 6/29/2023 the wand, where it connects to the power head is losing connection turning off the vacuum head and brushrolls. The handle light comes on when this occurs, every time you pull back on the vacuum the head turns off. This is unacceptable. We loved this vacuum when we got it now not so much. Very disappointed in the quality of a $400 unit. Going back to Bissell.

    Had the same problem. My wife came out to the garden and told me to get in the house and fix it. After trying to take it apart i realized i needed a special tool to get it apart so the next day i went and got them, $15.00. Watched youtube video on what the problem might be, took it apart, did that and put it back together, nothing. Watched another, did that, put back together, nothing. same thing one more time, nothing. Put tools away. My wife gets up 12 noon, takes front filter out and replaces it, works fine. Let her do it and save the headache.

    Found my my Apex brushes not turning found a hair ball behind the soft roller, cleared it, and it seems to be working fine. i will make sure i don't have the vacuum head set too low when working. i mostly have carpet squares and loop carpets to clean. At Apex's highest setting, you may still be over taxing the brush drive, causing the issue. Thank you for the post. please post an update if you've got it figured out!

    I've used my new Shark Duo Lift-away vacuum probably 12-15 times. I've cleaned the roller probably 5 times. (I have zero pets-it's basically just me) Now the red light comes on and neither roller will turn. I can't even turn them by hand. I went through all the trouble shooting steps, youtube videos, etc. Nothing worked. I finally called shark. They said the warranty only covers the actual motor not the accessory beater bar/rollers. Since when is this an accessory? So they said to pay like $90 and they will send me a new beater bar accessory. Since I just bought a similar Bissel vacuum for $89 (for the lake house), why would I pay more for a faulty part of a vacuum? Suddenly the price got cut in half. I ordered but I still question if it is worth it. I will never ever buy another shark....ever.

    ROLLER STOPS WORKING AND THE LIGHT SHUTS OFF.
    Chandra Davis is on the right track. The "female' end of he connection where the three pins for the wires going to the floor unit connect, have a small spring inside hat pushes the connector forward to meet the pin, and is supposed to keep the connection at all times, whether you are moving the unit in forward motion or back. In one of the pins, that spring is getting stuck and not keeping contact thus causing the flow of current to interrupt, stopping the roller and shutting off the light. As you move the unit forward you are applying pressure and forcing contact, but as you pull the unit back you loose that contact because the spring is not doing its job. I took mine apart and discovered this problem; thought I had fixed it, put it back together, and it worked, for a few minutes, but it started again. Hope the manufacturer looks into this problem and solves it. There will be a lot less complains if they do, and a lot more happy customers..

    I have had similar problems. I bought a new wand and it worked for awhile. The the whole base quit. I argued with customer service to send me a new base unit finally they did. I paid shipping. Then awhile later the light comes on on the wand so I bought 2 more because it seems like a problem with the wand. Then the problem with light blinking and the brushes don’t work. It’s a problem with the top plate that comes off to remove debris. It doesn’t push a tiny built in switch on the left side looking at it. In the process of figuring out how to jimmy it to stay on.

    I have this same problem but I had it for a year before I started doing that and I figured as soon as I saw that it was an electrical issue because the red light wasn't coming on the lights were just blinking and the green light would go completely off. I did figure out that it was the wand connection. I was worried about all these connections when I bought it but it had done fine for so long I wasn't so concerned about it until now. Usually I just take the wand out and click it back in since it's not dirty. That's not working anymore.

    Yep, having the same issue. We've had this vac a couple years now and it has happened before, but after putting in a new filter the first time it started working again. This time I cleared anything out of the brush roll, changed the filter, and it is still not working. Ours is doing the opposite from yours though, it runs momentarily when pushing it forward then stops and the lights go out when you pull it back! Fine time right before Thanksgiving company is coming for this thing to stop working!!

    I had this exact problem.
    I stripped the head unit completely down and found a cut wire around the swivel section. There are 3 wires that run down the wand, these are for the contacts when releasing the wand, those wires run down into the swivel section under a switch into a resistor, but the routing is very tight which caused one of the wires to break under pressure.
    I simply soldered together the wire, insulated, rerouted and assembled unit. Hoover works as new

    Those are some seriously thick carpets. Mine (different model) does that when I go over thick rugs but otherwise it's the best vacuum I ever owned.
    - It only stops when going forward, so turn around and see if it's just not liking a certain way on the carpet.
    - If it only stops going one way, go that way but much slower and see if the same happens.
    - Try going criss/cross to the direction that it stops in.
    It could be coincidence and it's just that it speeds up enough to get stuck by the time it's going forward, in which case you can try hardwood mode.
    None of this is a great solution but it could help determine whether or not it's the carpet that's too thick for it and might be valuable feedback to Shark.

    • @alanblake7217

      On the vacuums that I received, the rollers would stop completely for a moment, but then they would start spinning again on their own. If your rollers have permanently stopped spinning, then I would think that your brushroll motor is completely dead.

    I think I know what the problem is. The handle either isn’t pushed into the wand all the way or the wand isn’t pushed into the cleaner head all the way.

    • @alanblake7217
      @alanblake7217  3 роки тому +6

      That was my first thought too. But that is not the case. On each of the 3 vacuums, I systematically checked every connection. The problem occurs even if you connect the handle directly to the floor nozzle and push it around. The only way to get these vacuums to operate normally is to remove the soft (front) brushroll from the floor nozzle. My best guess is that the drag of the dual brushrolls on the carpet is overloading the small brushroll motor, causing it to stall out momentarily. I think the brushroll motors are either defective, underpowered, or have excessive motor overload protection.
