Thank you SO much for this clear and easy to follow video! My husband recently passed away so I'm learning how to do things like this around the house. Got this task done in about 15 minutes. 😊

Thanks so much Tony. Really appreciate your taking the time to document the belt replacement. Saved me a lot of time and frustration. With the 26,000 views I’m guessing you’ve cumulatively saved somewhere around 2 to 3 years of cussing and swearing. Great job!

Thanks so much. 66 years young and I fixed my vacuum by following your instructions. I ordered what I you said I needed and fixed it. The problem I had was putting on the belt. Other than that it was simple, a little challenging, but nothing you can't overcome. Thanks for sharing.

Hey man. Just wanted to say thank you! The whole assembly from Shark would be $100, but the belt I got from Amazon was $3 (2 belts for $6). You saved me $97 and at least an hour of unnecessarily taking apart the whole thing by unscrewing all the screws on the bottom. THANK YOU!

Your video was my solution! The soft brush roll on my Shark stopped working and this video helped me fix it. It cost less than $20 and took less than 30 mins of my time. I did purchase the Replacement Belts (MFLAMO) and Lexivon Tamper Proof Torx Bits (LEXIVON) from Amazon like you suggested. I put down an old white sheet just in case any small parts went flying. I took my time and stopped your video each time I needed to complete a step. The hardest parts were getting the 2 small screw covers out and removing the side panel. I am a female DIYer and this was just one more project crossed off my to do list. Thank you, Tony, I subscribed.

Perfect! So helpful. Only comment is based on others comments on Amazon, the belt can be put on by inserting it onto the small gear, put the belt on the front of the larger gear and then turn the gear to work it on easily. It helps to have the soft roller attached to turn it.
    THANKS!!

This was great. Thanks so much for posting. It took me 15 minutes to replace the broken belt by following your excellent tutorial. I will never buy another product from Shark. When I called Customer Service, like you, they told me the vacuum head was not under the 6 year warranty and that it would cost $100+ to send a replacement. What a scam. Thanks again, If you are ever in NC I'd be happy to buy you several beers.

Thanks for the video! I wish I had watched it before I took my AZ1002 head completely apart! Anyway, my front roller belt was broken, so I ordered the set of 3 from your link, plus a new aftermarket soft roller. I watched another video from a repair shop about the manufacturer. While it is true you cannot buy any internal parts from them and they do wear out, I must admit it is the best vacuum I have ever had, and over the last 50 years, I have worn out many! A couple of the “best of 2023” reviews still list this type of vacuum as the best for hardwood, tile, and carpet! I tend to fix, not throw away appliances.

No need to remove that front gear to get the belt on - just align it onto the bigger gear and pull it as close to you can to the smaller gear and keep pulling it like it would just slip onto the smaller gear while turning the main roller. The belt will gradually feed itself onto the smaller gear.
    Thanks for doing these videos!!!
Update: for what it’s worth, the replacement belt that I rec’d from Amazon, which works great, has “HTD 153-3M” on the belt and the label on the package says “B08Nw221TL”…

Great video! I needed to confirm that the side cover would come off after removing 2 screws (my cover was stubborn.) A couple of things. 1: if you don't have the torx with holes, you can drill out the little pin in the screw. Doesn't take much. 2: My belt wasn't broke, but it had slipped off so I was able to avoid buying a new belt for now. 3: I didn't take the gear off. What I did was started the belt on the gear, then I manually spun the big brush with my hand to make it guide the belt onto its gear. 4. thanks for the pointers on the switches - great stuff!!!

My roller stopped spinning as well. I decided to retire the Shark Apex and use it to just vacuum my cars. I was never impressed with the suction power. Just got a Dyson V15 cordless vacuum and it’s twice the suction, or so it seems, than the Shark. Lightweight, easy to clean stairs, as opposed to the Shark, and just an amazing vacuum. It has loads of attachments like the Shark too.
The Shark replaced a Dyson upright, don’t remember the model, and I knew right away that it wasn’t a good decision. The Shark isn’t a bad machine and I love the attachments. The hose limits you though and you have to basically carry the vac in order to clean steps. It won’t pick up fine pet hair from our place rug. I’ve tried and tried. With only two passes the V15 picked up all the hair. I’m actually glad that my roller stopped working since I wasn’t in the market for a new vacuum. I also have a Dyson cordless since 2013. Use for steps, light vacuum like bathrooms, pick up spills and wife’s hair, which is as bad as my dog’s. Also have a Roomba J7+. I’m anal when it comes to cleaning, especially my floors.

Thank you very much for this video. This is our second issue with this vacuum in less than 2 years of owning it. The first time that same belt somehow melted through the cover and we replaced the entire bottom portion like you mentioned Shark says is the only option. Also not covered under warranty despite it not even having been a year old at the time. We complained and got half off at least. The second time was just like this, where the belt became shredded. I'm honestly relieved we can replace just the belt this time at least. Pain in the damn ass though. Up yours, Shark.

I have found this video because my vacuum turns on and sucks but the roller heads have nothing powered. Neither roller moves, no lights at all, yet when I manually roll each roller, it turns both rollers. Would it still be a belt needing replaced? I did do exactly what was stated in the video where I sucked up a thinner rug and didn't get it turned off fast enough. I do not see anything or smell anything like older cheaper vacuum belts. My brush will only work in the forward motion, at times it even stops then and the green light goes off. The vacuum is almost a year old. I finally called today and went thru the troubleshooting tricks with the rep. and still not working. He is going to send me a new wand. I cant imagine how that would be the problem but will give it a try. I wish they would just replace it with a cheaper model, I don't think I would buy an APEX again. Sounds like it is a common problem.

What really helped me was using two eyeglass sized flat head screwdrivers, one to pry it up partially and the second to get a deeper grip on it. They're kind of spring loaded so if you only pull it up halfway and let go it'll snap back in. Also, when they finally break free they go flying and can be hard to find.
