I know this is an older video but a bit of advice. The overclock profile from these companies often runs with some very high voltages. I would HIGHLY recommend doing some stress testing while monitoring the temps to make certain your temps are reasonable. High temps can lead to your cpu thermal throttling; leading to worse performance and shorter lifespan.

Everyone has their own liking for setting up fan curves, but what I did was set the CPU fan curve and one fan port curve to match. Then used a 4 pin PWM fan controller that I hook up all my fans then hook the controller up to that one fan port on the board. As the CPU fan rises so does all the other fans to match. The reason to have fans separate is to be able to set a neutral pressure in the case. A little positive pressure is best, but a negative pressure bad. And a neutral pressure is what you should be going for.

I have to warn you, please do not use cpu boost in your bios. It can set your CPU voltage to dangerous levels and even cause degradation of CPU core. Any voltage over 1,4V is dangerous. You can easy watch some UA-cam videos from most popular content creators about overvolting Cpu, and how to properly overclock/boost your cpu
My msi b450 max setup my 3.6ghz cpu to 4.4 ghz by default and in the OC option i set the ram to its speed. The problem is the cpu ran fine but in games was jerky until i changed the cpu to 3.6 ghz and let turbo do all the overclocking. I don't use xmp and my ram run at 3200mhz what it's rated for. It also reports 3200mhz in task manager. So no, you dont need xmp at least on my mobo. The systen is now stable and doesn't overheat. For some reason mobo manufacturers set your cpu to run at their highest speeds and burn out your system.
Well the good news is that after I reset the Cmos then just ticked the XMP button and Upgraded to a 2TB M.2 SSD with a fresh install of Win 10 my system now runs smoothly! 😅
I like MSI Memory Try It. It is pretty handy as I don't like to putz around with timings myself. MSI boards also recover from bad memory settings without having to clear your bios most times.
I just found this video as I was browsing some overclocking videos. Very helpful but I was wondering if you had further details on specifically overclocking with that z 690 MSI motherboard on 12th gen CPUs? I previously only overclocked with Asus boards so the MSI layout is quite different and I'm a little nervous to do it without an instructional video.
I prefer to build a system for a specific play resolution of adequate power/quality running stock that I don't need to stress components with overclocking. I also build them so I don't have to touch/upgrade them for their designated lifetime of use (or beyond to whoever will end up using it when I move to my next system). I'm currently building a 1440p system this month, & retiring my still-rocking 1080p 2019 gaming build system. My 1440p build will pair the efficient little powerhouse Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T GPU with the cool, quiet running ASUS TUF version of the 7800 XT, since those two are a great pair for a no-bottleneck robust 1440p gaming system.
Great video, thanks for putting this out for us. How is the BIOS OC video coming along. Really looking forward to what you have found out. Thanks again.
These settings should be on by default. I just purchased an MSI MPG 790 Carbon motherboard, these settings were enabled by default. This is an older video which makes sense, doensn't hurt to double-check,.
It's such a shame that MSI have gone so far downhill. Their BIOS' and motherboards are so problematic now and shouldn't be recommended. Especially with the bloatware that they push on users, such as MSI Center.
ive been trying to get this message across to folks for literal years. OCing is not dumb. Expecting it to turn your PC into god mod is dumb. Learning how to talk to your hardware and correct these one size fits all set and forget default configs or a mobos "we need the highest clocks so it advertises better, who cares if it could blow the cpu into pieces". Educate yaself before you conflagrate yaself. yaself.
You said “everything’s fine aslong as you don’t change voltage” im so lost on what you mean there, what settings change the voltage so I know not to change them. Does changing the CPU Game Boost to on and your CPU cooler tuner to water cooling (if you have one) does that effect Voltage?
Same question. I have been trying to figure out why I cannot access XMP Profile 2. As like the video screen, it is blacked out. Does anybody know how to make it come "alive?" No amount of Googling or ChatGPT'ng has come to a resolution.
Im always trying to get your bios because on my x470 gaming pro carbon i just have the regular click bios that looks no way near yours mine is just called msi click bios and i recall having access to the one shown on your tutorial and dunno if my version is the latest or not im lost tbh.

Im upgrading from 2133 to 3200 ddr4. I have been getting stutters and drops in multiple games since last year since I had this same build. The only difference is my CPU is the non-F version. My new 3600 RAM comes today
Just shooting my shot here in the comments since I can't find a single post about it online, but is there a reason you have hyperthreading on but "per-core hyperthreading" disabled instead of enabling it on all cores?
we did not pay overclocking. its cost of default and its fastest of world if it fastest default. no need burn expensive parts. play 1080 max graphics if want bcoz you can. limit frames bcoz u will not see more than 60 anyway. its tested. u not see naked woman on 1 frame its just flash u not see it
Why would some of those options to click on in the advanced setting not be available? Both mine and your bios is the same. For instance in Power management setup I don't have the usb standby power option to click on.
For me it was, I have an R7 1700x and the temps would be extremely high when it was enabled. Disabled it and got cooler temps with no noticeable performance impact

Small warning to future people: XMP is an overclocking feature and turning it on can cause system instability, void your CPU warranty and may require some fiddling to get just right. Really make sure you know your CPUs maximum memory speed, as well as your RAMs max speed and its compatability (if its Intel XMP or AMD Expo). In my case, the default XMP Profile boosted the memory speed too high and caused some LEDs on the Motherboard to turn on, while also significantly slowing down boot time. And for general purpose computer usage and normal gaming, you usually don't need XMP enabled.
I appreciate this comment, everyone has the slow mentality hearing through the grapevine. “More power better performance 🥴” when that isn’t the case I enabled XMP on my MSI CLICK BIOS 5 and it’s hard crashing my game every 5 minutes. Thank you again for this info.
Hi! I'm about to build a system with an i5 12400. My concern is the TDP, as I have read that MSI likes to mess with Intel's default TDP's. Do I choose power limits when I'm selecting the cooler type? I have to warn you, please do not use cpu boost in your bios. It can set your CPU voltage to dangerous levels and even cause degradation of CPU core. Any voltage over 1,4V is dangerous. You can easy watch some UA-cam videos from most popular content creators about overvolting Cpu, and how to properly overclock/boost your cpu
where in bios do you turn off cpu boost
Wow I'm very glad I came across your channel. Thank you for this vid. 👍 !!!
Well the good news is that after I reset the Cmos then just ticked the XMP button and Upgraded to a 2TB M.2 SSD with a fresh install of Win 10 my system now runs smoothly! 😅
Thank you bro, very informative.
I like MSI Memory Try It. It is pretty handy as I don't like to putz around with timings myself. MSI boards also recover from bad memory settings without having to clear your bios most times.
Awesome, I appreciate your tutorial on how to use the MSI BIOS.
I dont have half of these setting options
Me too cause I got a Ryzen.
Yeah this was 3 years ago
Underrated channel
Awsome work!
AMD already has the CPU clocked to the max with PBO and everything enabled by default, just hit the ram profile and save it and thats about it.
In my opinion if you wanted to design a bios system that is not at all intuitive, that has different information everywhere, this would be it.
ery clear and informative,
Many thanks for posting this. Nicely de-mystifies bios settings.
Great video, new sub
I just found this video as I was browsing some overclocking videos. Very helpful but I was wondering if you had further details on specifically overclocking with that z 690 MSI motherboard on 12th gen CPUs? I previously only overclocked with Asus boards so the MSI layout is quite different and I'm a little nervous to do it without an instructional video.
Thank you for your work.
U gained a sub thank you so much
I prefer to build a system for a specific play resolution of adequate power/quality running stock that I don't need to stress components with overclocking.
Thank you bro🙏🏾
I’m sorry my friend, but I’ve never seen one of your live Steams!! What do you steam most?? Carrots, broccoli, onions?? 😂
(3:10)
you might want to make sure your CPU cooler is up to the CPU oc.
OR....(now check this out), what about rendering the CR3 deplete of the Gx44?
@@ZackZ-mg9uqI’m gonna pretend I know what this means
@@pete5516 It's PC lingo, I wouldn't expect you to understand.
Depending on which cpu you have, turning on the cpu boost might not be a good idea. I wouldn't recommend with a 7800X3D, for example.
thanks. i got a blue screen for making your little “adjustments”
Thank you very much. George
Huh, I do have a amd 5 3600 and at the xmp profile it shows DDr4 3000MHZ how do I fix that?
Great video, thanks for putting this out for us. How is the BIOS OC video coming along. Really looking forward to what you have found out. Thanks again.
Thank you so much!
really nice and helpful Video!
my msi b450 gaming plus max motherboard has an option for game boost which i turned on and now my pc won’t even start up
just wanna know how can u screen record the bios?
Capture card.
M.2_1 PCIe lanes source option ain't showing in my BIOS. I am using MSI B450M Pro M2 Max Motherboard.
Great video! Can this be done too with MSI H97 Gaming 3 ?
durrrr how many videos like this are there come on bro
I’d highly recommend not enabling CPU boost. It puts the CPU voltage way too high
How i change clock ratio
Thank you so useful
I don't see any motorcycle videos in your other channel
ive been trying to get this message across to folks for literal years. OCing is not dumb. Expecting it to turn your PC into god mod is dumb. Learning how to talk to your hardware and correct these one size fits all set and forget default configs or a mobos "we need the highest clocks so it advertises better, who cares if it could blow the cpu into pieces". Educate yaself before you conflagrate yaself. yaself.
You were able to make one for AMD, I have the same Bios, but I have an AMD processor.
Not even my motherboard but explained everything so well it helped me figure out what happened to my settings after resetting my pc, thanks 🙏 🥴🫠
Can you do an updated video with the most current bios and use this same pc setup?
would be cool to show how to get to oc profiles but other than that good vid
My M.2 has the OS on it, should I still enable the CPU lane?
I assume yes, as most install the OS on a M.2 that’s in the first pcie
Did you tweak your Ram timing to get a perfect 16-16-16-16?
You said “everything’s fine aslong as you don’t change voltage” im so lost on what you mean there, what settings change the voltage so I know not to change them. Does changing the CPU Game Boost to on and your CPU cooler tuner to water cooling (if you have one) does that effect Voltage?
Where do I get Click Bios software
f12/del
Thanks so much
I have an MSI board as well, I noticed yours also has Profile 2 grayed out. Why is that?
Same question.
I have been trying to figure out why I cannot access XMP Profile 2. As like the video screen, it is blacked out. Does anybody know how to make it come "alive?" No amount of Googling or ChatGPT'ng has come to a resolution.
Im always trying to get your bios because on my x470 gaming pro carbon i just have the regular click bios that looks no way near yours mine is just called msi click bios and i recall having access to the one shown on your tutorial and dunno if my version is the latest or not im lost tbh.
Try EZ mode top right
A few months back I realised I'm a criminal. I have a high end pc I got in 2021. And this whole time I wasnt running XMP. My pc was choking THIS WHOLE TIME
Hey man. I put all the settings you listed. I am using rtx 3070 with i5-11600k but my gpu usage keeps being stuck at 50%.. I don’t know what to do.
It's your ram ,it's chalked.
You can turn on above 4G and Resize bar if you have powerful CPU and RTX GPU
Think you need both Amd cpu & gpu …
@@ukgunit001 not necessarily
@@grievetan my bad was thinking “SAM” on amd ..
Thank you
Im upgrading from 2133 to 3200 ddr4. I have been getting stutters and drops in multiple games since last year since I had this same build. The only difference is my CPU is the non-F version. My new 3600 RAM comes today
THANK YOU
Should i enable above 4g memory /crypto mining?
What is the difference between game boost and PBO
Just shooting my shot here in the comments since I can't find a single post about it online, but is there a reason you have hyperthreading on but "per-core hyperthreading" disabled instead of enabling it on all cores?
we did not pay overclocking. its cost of default and its fastest of world if it fastest default. no need burn expensive parts. play 1080 max graphics if want bcoz you can. limit frames bcoz u will not see more than 60 anyway. its tested. u not see naked woman on 1 frame its just flash u not see it
Should i enable igpu? Does it give best fps on main monitor? I have both plugged into gpu
Yeah… My Gaming plus matches none of these options. Blows my mind how different a bios can be.
Why would some of those options to click on in the advanced setting not be available? Both mine and your bios is the same. For instance in Power management setup I don't have the usb standby power option to click on.
you have a newer version
Actually putting on xmp1 is worse. You should always start with xmp2. Even the manufacturers will tell you that as well as programmers
Is it bad to have CPU boost on? Even tho I have i710700k to 5.1 boost GHZ
For me it was, I have an R7 1700x and the temps would be extremely high when it was enabled. Disabled it and got cooler temps with no noticeable performance impact
CPU game boost makes my CPU run hot as fuck so just make a note it could do that to you as well.
What Cooling Type Mode you have set?
@@haies09 idk what that is
HELLO GRAY! You are my go to guy for MSI! I recently built my last system with an MSI Z390-A Pro with an Intel Pentium Gold Coffee Lake G5400 Duel Core 3.7Ghz Processor! 64 GB DDR4 3200 Ram and a GeForce GTX 1650 Video Card! I use this system for Adobe Video Editing! Besides ticking the XMP & GAME BOOST button with FAN set to Auto, what else can I do to Overclock this system? I was told by MSI that This is basically a budget gaming board that cannot be manually overclocked? Any advise Would be greatly appreciated!
Does Intel void your warranty if XMP is enabled?
I have a liquid cooler by MSI but the bios doesn’t have the Fan Cooler option
That’s where motherboards with a safeboot button come in.
I wish it was explaining everything and a full optimization but how to you get pch cpu lanes?
Small warning to future people:
XMP is an overclocking feature and turning it on can cause system instability, void your CPU warranty and may require some fiddling to get just right.
Enable memory context restore in bios.
I appreciate this comment, everyone has the slow mentality hearing through the grapevine. “More power better performance 🥴” when that isn’t the case I enabled XMP on my MSI CLICK BIOS 5 and it’s hard crashing my game every 5 minutes. Thank you again for this info.
Im installing m2 nvme for my game storage. What setting on the bios should I tweak?
I don't know what to click to leave the Bio thing im literally keep exiting but it keeps putting me back in bio and im tryna leave
Hi! I'm about to build a system with an i5 12400. My concern is the TDP, as I have read that MSI likes to mess with Intel's default TDP's. Do I choose power limits when I'm selecting the cooler type? My parts aren't here yet, so I don't know what TDP's will show for Tower Air Cooler, but is it safe for TDPs to be over Intel's defaults (TDP1 65w, TDP2 117w)?
Tdp2 is fine
