I have a string of dolphin… it didn’t like my purple grow light and all the dolphins either died or flattened and looked like mantaray. I propagated some small pieces that still had some leaves and kept the bare mother plant. The new cuttings are growing straight up like yours and the mother plant has new growth all over it. They’re both in an east window right now and the new growth has dolphins. I don’t use the purple grow lights anymore.
I just repotted my first philodendron Silver Sword with a moss pole! Even just by watching this video, I learned a lot from you so thank you, it was super fun to repot along.
Thank you for sharing about how Pink Princesses and other philos will not have their own cataphyll until they've grown up! I had observed this, but didn't know what was going on there. this makes so much sense and is super helpful to me. Thanks for a helpful and fun to watch video as always! :)
Doing plant chores while some watching and a lot of listening. Thank you for the educational video. I think it’s a wonderful idea to start a business starting plants on moss poles
Yay!! I love chatty repotting videos! I just chopped my Albo yesterday and it was so scary! I can’t wait until they start activating growth points and I can repot them into a more full plant ❤️ Repotting videos always make me want to repot things even if they don’t need it 😅
Yay so glad! I need motivation to repot sometimes 😂 good luck with your albo!! I bet it was scary!! It's hard to chop some plants 🥺 They should be rooting and activating in a few weeks!! 🙌
@@plantsbymelissa thankfully I had been air layering it pretty much since I got the plant back in June, and it’s put out a few new leaves since I got it. I wanted to make sure I did the chop before the next leaf really started developing. 1 cutting is very well rooted, a couple others are fairly well rooted, but my top cut is not as well rooted. I left an extra node on that one so it has 3 leaves and will also have that 4th one (hopefully without any issues)… I’m worried the leaf will melt before it can actually fully develop though 😕 fingers crossed it goes smoothly though 🤞🏻🥰🤣
I swear we are like planty twins! I just gave away my huge fox farm soil bag. I realized the past year I just hate peat moss. I’m loving the coco coir a ton! Also target really didn’t do it for me this year at all! I have some plant chores to quickly get done before it gets cold lol!
your ring of fire is making me want one even though i have no space! i found a plug after i noticed one of my anthuriums was starting to yellow rather alarmingly...so disappointing to find because it was from a higher end shop :( it was in basically pure coco chips/bark so it looks like it was suuuuper chunky and well draining but the center was retaining so much moisture that i think i was over watering. luckily i didn't pay much for it and i removed it so hopefully it can rebound!
oh no!! That's not good! glad you caught it! I hope it can bounce back and make a recovery! 🥺 It can be deceiving because sometimes you don't know it's there and if you knew you could repot or watch the watering with it so you don't overwater. I'm sorry!
I know you said including the moss pole process seems repetitive in your vids, but it’s great! I love watching your process, but still anxious about doing it myself 😥
Thank you for saying that! Sometimes I worry that people will skip over certain parts 🙈 You can definitely do it!! Once you do one though you'll want to do more haha
I adore your videos Melissa!!! Your plants are stunning ❤❤❤. I have two pink Princesses growing in the same pot. One was reverted but seems to be getting a little color back. I do struggle with thrips on her and hope to win the battle 🙈!!! They are so hard to get rid of in a studio NYC apartment. Especially since I can only introduce beneficial mites and am just too scared of the larvae…. I have major bug phobia unfortunately! Can’t wait to see your beauties grow 🪴😍💕
Hey Melissa! Love the vid! I had gorgeous PPP with awesome genetics and she was doing great until she started to drop her leaf's a rapid pace and her roots were rotting, I waited a bit to long to deal with her because I just couldn't prop her, but I bit the bullet and cut her up in to 8 props. She would not develop roots in perlite as I think she didn't have the energy to, so I put all 8 props in Fluval Stratum and VOILA all 8 props are now growing roots and little itty bitty baby variegated leaf's, THANK GOD!! So I know how you feel about having a PPP with great genetics, you don't want to loose that! So here I am starting from scratch with her, but that is ok cuz know I will wind up with more than I started with and looking forward to her cuttings maturing and put them on a THICCLY moss poles! Melissa your awesome and I love you, hope that doesn't sound to creepy lol! 💜💜💚💚🤣🤣
Thank you Nikki :) Not creepy at all. I appreciate the support and for watching and I am so happy your props made it. Stratum is amazing stuff! It sucks to lose a plant and to start over but things happen sometimes. It will grow back even better! 🥰
Those strings of anything love an east facing window. I gave my string of dolphins to my niece but I might try one again now that I know what window they like
Thanks for sharing! My east window gets lots of morning sun so it would definitely love it! Hoping the south window does well, my other string of's do well there!
I was about to comment earlier after watching your video when I realized I was using my husband's YT account🤣 Now, some of the thoughts are gone but I just wanna say that I love this kind of content more than any other. It is so soothing, relaxing and I would say my stress-reliever kinda video. As always, thank you so much! Those new plants will surely grow beautiful💯💚
Ooomg that ring of fire is going to be gorgeous once it gets huge on the pole! Pretty please make a community post when that new leaf pops out- even if you have to cut it id love to see the variegation on it first 😍
Your new pole mix sounds a lot like what I mixed in my coco coir. Except your perlite is bigger than mine. I’m getting the bigger stuff next time, like yours.
Came to watch again without my baby nursing haha!! Anyone this year really start to realize what they love in plant care / soil/ propagating and species in general to collect? This summer was the summer I have come to the realization I don’t love hoya as much as I thought , and that I don’t have to BUY EVERY plant I like lol!
haha yes! I have to learn to put the plant back sometimes. I am not much of a hoya fan myself. I try to love them but I my monsteras, alocasias and philodendron are better lol
A Ring of Fire just found a place on my plant wanna list for sure because i like the plant and not just because the name reminds me of the famous Johnny Cash song, although i like the song a lot as well. Best of luck with these plants but I have every confidence your Plantologist Extraordinaire abilities. Thanks.
Do you k ow what size those little plastic boxes are that you have amendments in. You could give the measurements of the box and then I can find one the same size. Thank you.
When you come back to NC you should try and go to Growin Green in Nashville, NC. They have so much and it’s absolutely amazing the variety that is hard to find. You would love it if you haven’t already been.
ah yes! I know them and visited there. They sold me a rotting Thai con 😅 It was a long time ago and one of my first expensive plant purchases and I battled rot for 6 months on it and it didn't make it. $400 down the drain. The guy behind the counter told me to not unpot it...I wonder why :(
They can still use the support even though they are self headers :) My white knight has attached to it like crazy! I have roots growing up and down the pole 😊
Thank you! For the clear thiccly ones or the wire poles? Most of my supplies you can find on my amazon storefront. I have links to most of the products I use in the video description. Here's my moss pole supply section: www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/27D4Z5CKST4WL?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
Can I just ask why you put the pole in the center? I always put it against the back of the pole, since i have the feeling my roots have more space than in front and its easier to get them out? But i am curious to learn😊💋 😊
Are you go8ng to reuse the coco coir from the pink princess since you said you are moving away from peat? Just curious since I just repotted a big box PPP and there is so much coco coir I’m thinking I’ll dry it out really well and use it in chunky mixes.
I don't :( if the soil came from another plant I don't save it. I feel like something could transfer easily. I think with all of the fungal issues I was having I am worried to reuse something now. I know I reused moss here but the plants in it were okay so hoping it's fine. I'm not sure if you could sterilize it maybe bake it? I'm not sure I want to do that but definitely want to try and not waste so much too.
From Amazon! It was recommended by a lot of folks when I asked on my insta stories. It’s the Mother Earth brand. Mine is size 4 which is super chunky but they have a size 3 that’s a little smaller but still very chunky. It’s a ginormous bag 😂 I’ll link it here: www.amazon.com/dp/B0032JPKHY?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B0032JPKHY&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.B6F3YIOPBQAN&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m_asin
When you water your moss poles, do you still water around the base of the plant or the water coming down the pole is good enough? (I'm new to moss poles btw)
It depends! I am finding the thiccly ones in my moss pole mix I have to water the rest of the soil sometimes especially if they are in my cabinet. If the whole thing looks and appears dry then I give it a thorough soak. My wire poles I don't have to water the base they tend to get enough water when I water them over the top. I kinda treat them like a normal plant without a pole in a way. If the soil is dry then I will water it. It takes some getting used to and not all of them dry out the same so it really is plant dependent. As long as the mix can drain appropriately and not hold onto moisture for long then it can withstand getting watered more. I hope that helps!
Your pink princess could pass for a strawberry shake! It's so cute!❤
Oh heck yeah!! So EXCITED 💚🪴🌿
Thanks for watching!! ☺️🫶🏻

The dolphins on my string have never sized up. They’re fully formed but really small. Still cute 🙂💚✨
Very cute string of dolphins. Love those pots.
This was fun! Your right about target I hope they bring the cute dollar pots back.

I went to Target and got one of the plant notebooks and a couple 8in self watering pots for $3 so thank you for the heads up!
yay!! glad you found some! The notebooks are adorable especially the monstera one! 🥰
