I’m looking to pickup the comp2rgb. I’m gonna feed it a Xbox, PS2, 360 and Wii and then into my Gscartsw. The two outputs from the Gscartsw go to a PVM and an OSSC. Great overview dude :)
I have a Sony PVM 14n6u, so this COMP2RGB transcoder should do the work well to play my Wii & XBOX games on it :3 (pretty much all Playstation consoles can support RGB SCART so I'll think it's a bonus to hook up component video) I've recently purcharsed the RGB2COMP to play my retro games with a consumer grade CRT TV with component video.
Yes, this should work for you. With your PVM, you will need to use 480i output on your consoles because the RetroTink doesn't give PVMs 480p capability, it just converts 480i RGB to 480i component. Nice! Yeah, definitely is a bonus to have component options especially for PVMs that don't natively support that input.
@@ZXRyuu hello there again, I've made purchased my COMP2RGB from a fellow friend on a Facebook Group about upscalers (since Mike has his store closed at the moment I'm writing this comment) I felt like a good chance to get mine, I asked him a male to male SCART cable since I have a female SCART to BNC breakout cable to plug any of my consoles that can do SCART... And yeah I'm saving up for the Retrotink 5X but it's gonna take so long until they restock the units in June, so I wanted to get the COMP2RGB instead I save up more hehe.

I do marathon events every so often and I've been looking for an OSSC or Framemeister so that I can better stream multiple people at a time. If not, that's okay, because I know it's a big ask.

Hey, you're welcome; glad the video helped! I don't have much experience with downscaling, so I'm gonna just make some guesses for you. I don't see any mention of 480p in the specs of the unit in question, so my biggest concern is that the 480i signal coming out of the H2CS isn't going to behave the way we expect and you may get either combing artifacts from the raw digital signal or you could get some effect where the interlacing is more or less pronounced than a true 480i signal would be. I would look into either an Extron VSC 700 or Extron Emotia for downscaling, if you want a tried and true method that works, because you'll get a better image and more control once you get a 480p image. That means you wouldn't need the RetroTink or H2CS, but both Extron units are probably 4x the cost of either the H2CS or the RetroTink. If it was me, I would try the H2CS and the RetroTink first, to see if that gets you what you want, since they are cheaper; but think about doing an Extron unit if something is off. By the way, I have a TVOne Corio 2 C2-1250 lying around but I couldn't get it to work: I need to be spoon-fed a bit. I have basic/ground knowledge but im obviously missing something. A live support-session (compensated? :) is something that I would be looking for. And: coincidentally I got an Extron RGB 203rxi as a gift but I dont know what to use it for (yet). At the I really want to achieve this goal for some time now: I use plex to stream my favourite series/movies, and for the retro content I love to stream to my CRT(s). I used to be able to use the plex app of the Xbox360/Ps3 (they provide 480i RGB Scart output) but since some time now those apps are not supported anymore and stopped working. So ideally I could use a PS4 or a laptop with a plex app to achieve that goal :)

Sure thing! Haha, no lecturing here; let's change out your spoon for some meat! Yes, 240p and 480i are the resolutions that Consumer CRTs (and Professional Video Monitors) use most frequently. Professional Video Monitors (PVMs) and Broadcast Video Monitors (BVMs) can handle resolutions from 240p up to 1080i depending on your model. Looking at your CRT, it looks like doing SCART out of the RetroTink into your CRT will be a good option. However, if for some reason this new set up has video glitches, we can get around that by using BNC to SCART or something, but that's only if the RetroTink and H2CS don't work. Dang! That tvONE box looks really nice and shoot, you have an Extron 203 as well; you've got some nice stuff there! Those two boxes deal mostly with VGA, which does have its uses, but they are a little more specific. In your case, neither of those boxes deal with downgrading, but they have some other applications. I would say that the tvONE box could be useful if it did the transcoding like the RetroTink, but I can't tell if that's possible or not at this point, because it looks like you might be able to, but you would need some RCA to BNC Adapters and a C-SYNC BNC to SCART Cable or something like that. Just guessing and talking out-loud. Huh, that's interesting, because I just got some stuff working to use my desktop computer to play retro content on my PVM. It's pretty convoluted, but I was able to use an ATI HD 5700 Graphics Card with a hacked driver called CRT_EMUDriver to achieve this. If you are wanting to stream Plex to a CRT, I would actually recommend going with a PC for that, because you'll be able to tailor your set up a lot more with a computer. Console apps are notorious for disappearing after a single generation. Do you have any ATI or AMD Graphics Cards in your equipment?
Okay, thanks; I watched the video and it seems like the H2CS should work for the PS4, but I was noticing on another video, using the same product, that there might be some graphical glitches depending on what's being run into it, so we'll have to see. But that could have very well been artifacts of the camera recording the screen, not necessarily anything wrong with the final picture on the TV.
I saw a comment saying it doesn't do the PAL TO NTSC or NTSC to PAL Conversion. How can I play my NTSC GameCube for example on a Sony Triniton 14 CRT which is PAL but can also do NTSC as it has compatibility
Correct; the COMP2RGB is strictly a transcoder, it doesn't do NTSC to PAL conversion or vice-versa. Off the top of my head, you'll probably want to look into the Swiss Homebrew Utility for Game Cube. This program gives some video output options that might work in your case. I have not done any kind of NTSC or PAL conversion as I've never needed to myself, but I think it would be a good place to start for you. If you can run Swiss, let me know how things are going and I can try to help you out if you're still running into issues.
If the TV has NTSC support then it should work. I'm guessing this would function in much the same way that multi format PVMs do. Again, without having the ability to test this myself, I'm guessing. It should work, but I'm not 100% sure.
Hello. I have a question. Sorry if you already answered it in your video but here goes: I have a Sony trinitron 21" and I live in Sweden and it has scart inputs. So there is no way to connect a component cable to it other than with the comp2rgb. Do you think it will give me 480p using this adapter/converter? I'm not sure if the tv can support it or not. I mean also, is it worth buying in your opinion? I'm reffering to the Wii.
Hello! The COMP2RGB Transcoder does support 480p video. Do you have a model number for your Sony Trinitron? That will be best way to find out if it supports 480p or not.

So, you could convert the Component signal to RGB, but you will also need a Male SCART to SCART cable to go from the COMP2RGB to the SCART input on the back of the TV. Just for clarification, are you using an NTSC Wii or are you using a PAL Wii, because the COMP2RGB won't do the NTSC to PAL conversion, it is a 1-to-1 Input-Output (PAL to PAL, NTSC to NTSC).
@@ZXRyuu Alright, thanks for your research. I'm using a PAL Wii. And right now I'm using a supposedly Rgb scart cable which goes directly between the wii and the tv. However, the "PAL 60hz" display option in the wii menu is as high as I can go, which I guess is 480i? (Hence why I wonder if the comp2rgb will make a difference in my case?) When connecting other consoles such as Sega and Snes, the tv actually says that the input is RGB, but this is not the case with the wii.

If SCART is easier in your setup, just save yourself some money and stick with it rather than getting another box to transcode one signal to the other.

Hello! I actually don't know for sure. Since my PVM only goes up to 480i I don't know that I have a good way to test that particular scenario. I use component, myself, for the Wii and GameCube; I've never tried RGB for either of them. Upon further research, it looks like you would need some kind of mod for this, either the WiiDual, GCHD-MKII or some other type of RGB mod to go beyond 480i. There are options, but I don't think this is possible out of the box.
I'm not a native english speaker so i don't understand everything in your vidéo (god you speak so fast). So i still have a question; does this COMP2RGB downscales any component signals to RGB 480 interlaced ? never to 480P ?
I did notice that I was talking fast in my earlier videos, I've since slowed down. 👍🏻. The COMP2RGB doesn't do any kind of downscaling or upscaling. It's simply a transcoder to take a Component signal and convert it to an RGB signal. So if you are passing 480i Component, you'll get 480i RGB or if you're passing 480p Component, you'll get 480p RGB. Make sense?
How does XB/GC SCART through the tink transcoder compare to XB/GC SCART raw? Both consoles will do SCART without the COMP2RGB transcoder. Does it improve the signal over SCART from the 2 consoles if they were hooked up raw?
I want to say that hooking it up with no transcoding would be better. I've found that I get better image quality when my setup is as simple as possible. I use the COMP2RGB, because I have to for my equipment, but if you don't need it; I wouldn't add it.
