    I'm glad people can now experience retro games closer to what they are designed to look like. For a long time people said it wasn't possible, its been almost 20 years since lcd's got popular so its surprising it took this long. I remember when people said 3 frames of lag wasn't a big deal.

I only get annoyed at the people who come here accusing Mike of "ripping people off" because he decided to make a high end product, as well as entry-level.
      ...and I'm totally stealing your "expensive cellphone" comparison :)

    • @whiteflamehariel
      @whiteflamehariel 9 місяців тому

      Only difference is that typically you don't pay in full for phones. The cost is dispersed throughout 2 years on your cellphone bill and people don't usually realize that or find it easier to deal with. Yes, you could put the cost of the rt4k on a credit card and say what's the difference but the cost of the phone via billing on your cell bill isn't charged interest either and will 100% be paid off eventually make the same payments for 2 years. You also typically have the option to trade it in and upgrade after half (1 year) of it is paid for.
      Not disagreeing with the point, it's just not a complete end to end comparison and I have a rt4k now (thankfully) and is sooooo worth it. I've been dying for this solution as I have an ossc and just, didn't feel like it was enough for how I wanted to use my unmodded consoles and was fearing that I basically was going to need to mod a lot of my consoles to get anything worthwhile when trying to capture or just play on my c9.

    Question:
    When in FrameLock mode, on 480p HDMI input …. What is the lowest input lag possible, to the hundredth of a millisecond, when minimal anti-aliasing/jaggie-smoothing algorithms are enabled, during the trip upward from 480p/60 up to 4k/60 ?

  • @drsPascalsArchive
    @drsPascalsArchive Рік тому +2

    I've set up all my old consoles years ago for RGB SCART and a CRT and right now it's my preferred way of playing older consoles. I use an OSSC as well and while it gets the job done It's not perfect. Being able to scale just about anything up to 4K lwith minimal lag and without artifacts or bad filters is really amazing, this will even be great for 720p PS3/360 era games. Never been a fan of "fake" scanlines but this looks really impressive. It only needs to be more affordable but I'm sure that will happen some day.

    I am so happy to see this device and really can't wait for the full release to see final price and what it can be pushed to do. Have to ask though, what is the chance a v2 will be released with HDMI 2.1 at some point in future? yes it will be more money, but if we are already putting our hand in our pocket to pay close to $1000, not many of us will complain about an extra $50/$100/$150 to have the latest HDMI standard and potentially have more 4k modes opened up as well.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  Рік тому +1

      I asked Mike the same question. It would raise the price so high, that it's not even worth it. So my guess is it'll be *years* before we see one that can go as high as 8K60 / 4K120.

  • @The_Prizessin_der_Verurteilung

    Finally VGA support.
    The stock 720 x 480P on Dreamcast looks sharper and better than composite/SVideo with the RetroTink 5X even on my 4K Samsung TV since SVideo and composite don't make use of the VGA resolution and it's a noticeable difference.

    The per core settings for Mister would be awesome. If the Tink 4k doesn't have network access, it could be possible if it has some kind of command line interface via USB. Someone could theoretically create a tiny web service that can control the tink (maybe pico w?), so the Mister could announce what it's launching (either a web request to the tink or a broker in the middle) and launch the correct profile.

    • @SnakebitSTI

      From an implementation standpoint, I imagine it would be easier to code MISTer cores to display a test pattern at startup for the scaler to lock on to.

    Bob, thanks for the video. Can you confirm (if you know) that the 4K can accept 1080p over it's component and/or VGA input? I have a scaler that outputs 1080p over component and I'd love to use the 4K as a passthrough. Thanks!

    • @SnakebitSTI

      From Mike Chi's announcement post: "There are currently settings for standard consumer video (240p/288, 480i/576i, 480p/576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) as well as retro PCs (EGA/DOS 70 Hz, VGA, SVGA, XGA, UXGA)."
      I think that means yes, but specs on exactly what each input can handle would be nice.

    I’m always looking for a way to improve my GameCube further. I have a Carby and love it. With the 4k’s hdmi input, am I correct in assuming I could chain these two devices and get 1080p on my hd tv? I don’t have a 4k tv yet, but playing the GameCube at 1080 p would be sweet.
    But I heard the Framemeister didn’t really do 480p up scaling on the GC very well, so I am unsure.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  Рік тому +2

      Yes, the Carby and RT4K are an excellent pair. And if you have a 1440p, 120Hz gaming monitor, you can even run it with BFI enabled, for a perfect 3x scale...no need for a 4KTV to get the most out of this :)

    I want one of these for my PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Wii and N64. My older 2D consoles I prefer to play on my Sony Trinitron TV. I can't wait to test this out with my Gem upgraded PS2 with some Xenosaga.

      Similar interest because i bought all the Analogue systems so i connect those to my modern TV and have basically retired the original 2D consoles for rare uses.
      Doing that allowed me to put some of my PS2, PS1, Wii, Saturn and N64 under my CRT TV but i will like to be able to use them on my modern TV so i need devices like this for that.

    If I understood correctly, the RetroTINK is able to detect which console is connected. In any case, it sould be a nice feature to have bezels to fill the black columns of a 16:9 TV or monitor, or even full screen bezels, and using the internal scaler. I think it wouldn´t be hard to add some still image to the video.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  Рік тому +1

      Not a bad idea. At the very least, the sides can be different colors. But maybe Mike can add bezels in a future firmware update?

Unfortunately the final price will most probably still be WAAAYYYY out of my league, unless I get lucky and buy one in 2nd hand down the road. Cheap used SONY CRTs will continue to do the heavy work for now.

    So I never had the space before but recently moved and built out my retro setup. Currently, I have 4 consoles plugged into a cheap composite splitter.. which is why I’m here, because it looks like trash. Gaming on a 1080p lcd currently, no immediate intentions to get a 4K for this room. My question is, do I stick with the 5x Or will this do enough for my current setup that it’s worth investing in to future proof? Also maybe a dumb question but is the use of splitters into the RT possible? Just wondering how folks with several systems use the RT. Thanks!!

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  Рік тому +1

      My honest opinion: If it's a 1080p60 display, stick with the RT5x: It's AWESOME and you won't really gain anything from the RT4K. That said, if your display is 1080p120, I think BFI is a pretty substantial upgrade...as long as whatever the RT4K's price ends up being is in your budget.

    • @prather23
      @prather23 Рік тому

      @@RetroRGB appreciate the feedback! Yeah it’s a 1080p60 so sounds like the 5x might be a good option. Can I run a splitter into any RT device or will it lose too much quality? Right now all my consoles are set up on a switch splitter so I don’t have to change cables each time.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  Рік тому +1

      If you mean HDMI output splitters, then yes, those are fine. Never use Y-cables with video though, as you can damage your consoles. Audio is fine. I demo this a bit in the RT5x launch video: ua-cam.com/video/nwNrqIjxBaA/v-deo.html
