Fear & Hunger OST - Fear & Hunger

- The Fear & Hunger OST was created/put together with varying degrees of originality by Miro Haverinen. It wouldn't be here without the samples of Taira Komori, Loop Loft and freesound.org.
Most horror media doesn't phase me at all, but Fear & Hunger feels more like a cursed artifact than a game. I absolutely love it for that.
Cursed artifact describes it really well
With a lot of gore and dicks lolol. Its a masterpiece, cant wait for more
Imagine a curse where every time you boot up a new game you get this as your starting screen 😂
Fear and Hunger can get straight up *unhinged* sometimes!
I never played anything quite like it.
@liberandum355 I mean... Silent Hill 2 is basically the best horror game ever made, it's really hard to compare despite F&H clearly getting a lot of inspiration from it: From subtle things like how the God of the Depths works to obvious homages like Crow Mauler XD
Feat and hunger is not scary until you realise you've been playing in it for а few hours without single save
You mean without any Save on hard Mode?
Good thing I die every 10 minutes on average, so that's never gonna happen to me.
The save mechanic adds a lot but is really frustrating if you have to take a dump mid session, or something comes up and you have to stop playing so you just lose all your progress.
@@AQS521 does the pause button just not exist to you or
@@AQS521oh nevermind 💀 my bad I misread it
Termina improved in every aspect as a game, but the charm of F&H1 is unmatched.
The moment you set foot in the dungeon, your fate is pretty much sealed. 99% of the time you'll die, murdered by overpowered and unfair enemies, cut to pieces, skinned alive, die of infections, cut in half by traps, face peeled off, head pecked off, driven mad, violated, eaten alive, starved to death, poisoned, trapped by collapsed tunnels, instant killed by being acknowledged by older Gods, instant killed without explanation, sacrificed, tortured to death...
The hopelessness in a world that hates you is real. Really incredible atmosphere
I started yesterday and infection is the worst because it seems harmless enough at first
@@spandi23 Salmonsnake soul basically removes the threat of infections in the game
Perfectly said. I adore the character cast of Termina, but it doesn't achieve the same despair and bleakness of the first game
@@Trey-qe2ilid argue it doesnt have the same amount of dread because its set much further in the future and technology has improved a lot. I'm not entirely sure though as I've only played the first game (I want to play the Termina I just dont have the determination to start another game T~T)
It's partially the setting, it's also- having played both- the closeness of the characters and their interactions and some of the "hubs" in game are very cozy and stave off that sense of doom and gloom; whereas nowhere felt truly safe in F&H1@@peppermint274
This game is like playing as a side character in Berserk.
I don't think any character in berserk can have something nice. Fuck griffith
Lol, nice
Even the Guts char version of this game is really fked xD
thats because it is inspired by Berserk^^
there are so many references..
even in this main menu.. can you spot them?..
@@giocommentary I havent really read it that much so aside from a similar style and tone i cant really catch the refrences
Idk if it's a clock or the sound of bones cracking, but that little noise that repeats at the beginning of the song is such an earworm
I think it's the palpitation of a heart followed by the growl of a empty stomach, if correct this OST is the perfect embodiment of ''Fear and Hunger''
I always imagined it as something banging on a locked door.
personally, i always thought it was the sound of a rock falling on top of a pile of rocks...
Sounds like a pickaxe hitting a rock, slaves hitting rocks in awful conditions that's the sound i hear
@@MRwho35 Now that you described it like that I can make the connection of the sound and a hunger pang 😳

And then he proceeded to fear and hunger all over the place.
There's going to be a little string of fear forever in the back of your mind and it's going to be this intro theme.
I remember 2 music tracks that fully describe the games in which they sound:
1. Undertale - Undertale (ost).
2. Fear and hunger - Fear and hunger (ost).
Interesting irony.
Both are top-view RPGs that take place underground filled with monsters and has sentient flowers. But there comes a catch when you get into details...

but honestly yeah this is true lmao acc did such a good job with the ost
WE AIN'T MAKING OUT ALIVE WITH THIS ONE 🗣🗣
Can we make out dead at least? 👉👈
A ballad of darkness which will take your sanity away, depths of unexplored and deadly hallways, blood that will be spilled over and over again, skin that will be peeled off while you’re still alive, monsters born in a head of a madman, dungeon twisting millions of lifes and minds, gods crucifying people for their own namesake, battles in which limbs are sent flying back and forth; fear, that shackles all of us, shivering creatures; and hunger, that reminds you of the short time that’s gifted to you.
Strugle, against the madness, against the fear, against the hunger, against the inevitable
Keep going, fellow Struggler. We'll see you at the fire
That sounds like somthing the ancestor would say in darkest dungeon
The fact that a sh!tpost comment is right above this makes this comment even better
Glory to all the old gods! Suffering learned in the dungeons of fear and hunger open up a new view of the world.
amen!
I always imagined the knocking sound for the stone filling up a bottomless well it just fits so well in my mind
It might symbolize an attempt to gauge how deep the well is, but it will only tell you how long you'll fall when you have to jump in. Just like the characters (and by extension the player) try fruitlessly to predict how long the journey ahead of them is, yet only find out when it's already too late to turn back.
Yeah me too
I just realized that what L'egarde is doing in the video is exactly what D'arce did in her S-Ending.
Maybe he's summoning a blood golem, it's in the main menu art to show the lengths people go to in the dungeon to survive, to release that much blood for that spell
"The thought must have crossed your mind at some point. That you delved too deep. The thought that this would be a one way trip."
"Just lay down and rest. There is beauty in this darkness."
A somber song for a somber game.
Thinking about it, there really is a certain beauty in that darkness, through our own struggles, we unwittingly sacrifice ourselves to the horrific grind so those who come after us won't have to. Light cannot be made from darkness, but it can be navigated in.
fear and hunger termina is a good game don't get me wrong, but holy mother of joseph Fear and Hunger is such a masterpiece, and it has a charm with its simplicity... it's more brutal, its creatures are beyond comprehension, the thought of a simple castle-like dungeon that stretches miles and miles down into a city of gods is far more appealing to me than exploring a town, fucked up as it may be, it feels different. its brutal.
Fear and Hunger is truly like no other game. Total Masterpiece
Termina is fun to play, Funger is fun to watch. I hate playing Funger so I just watched Connor play it. Also Max Gilardi is playing it so I might watch it again.
This theme hits different when you start to hear it at the end of the God of Fear and Hunger ending.
Ah, the game that makes you do horrible things to survive.
All wrapped up with a very generous dose of physical and mental trauma for the PCs

Hey man don't judge. I really needed that claymore, and the cat guy knows how to cut a deal

BACK TO THE TITLE SCREEN WITH YOU!
I couldn't ask more for a fitting ost for fear and hunger
The darkness
The hopelessness
The inevitable doom that awaits us all
Such a simple (imho) and creepy melody. I love this OST!
The melody is the intro to Kurenai by X Japan
@@GeneralBison wow! Thx!
Something i think fits Fear and Hunger pretty well are quotes made for nuclear warning.
“This place is not a place of honor.”
“No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here.”
Maybe the real fear and hunger was the girl we found along the way
In the end, the girl looks us in the eyes and tells us "I am fear and hunger " and fear and hungers all the place
@@Pel40ASA its funny how acurate that is to one of the endings
We getting out of the eastern santuaries with this one🙏💯🔥
Just discovered this hidden gem of an RPG, and as much as i am afraid of what you all have created, it's also so fascinating, and i'm scared but also excited to try the game one day, thanks for haunting my brain for the past 2 weeks lol.
There are very, very few themes on the internet that i feel perfectly encapsulate a genre.
BSG's opening theme is a good example of the push for survival. The situation is bleak, but still, you push on.
Metroid's theme, while a bit darker, is still solidly curious, eager to explore, but intertwined with danger and intrigue.
Neither of these perfectly encapsulate their gente, only their respective media.
Hollow Knight gets close. The opening theme *beautifully* conveys a story lost to time, emptiness, and the adventure waiting for you. Even still, I feel it falls just short of being THE Dark Fantasy theme. It's a perfect rendition for its own media, and a brilliance for metroidvanias.
But Fear & Hunger just barely manages to surpass it, in my humble opinion. It is the *perfect* Dark Fantasy theme. There is no hope, there is no light, and there is no reason to press on.
And yet... You persist. Absolutely legendary soundtrack. Cant wait to finish up the game and start Termina.
Fear and Hunger is like an insult, one that gets under your skin. Other games might rile you up with difficulty or defeat, but fear and hunger will suck you of dignity and pride. It will hollow you out. Your dreams will truly crumble, victories feel like more like an end than an overcoming. You will be stepped on, beaten, humiliated and raped. You will lose characters you get attached to just like that. You will fear and you will hunger. When you want to curl up and lull into sleep, your primality will heave you onto aching limbs to resist once again. You will grow tired, so terribly tired, that you might just give up and amount to nothing but empty sacrifices. Another loot bearing corpse in the dungeons of fear and hunger, unascended and of no greater value.
"You will fear and you will hunger" zamn, such words...
Such way with words...
Why do you resist? The thought must have crossed your mind at some point. The thought that you delved too deep. The thought that this would be a one-way trip. So instead of fighting the inevitable, why not embrace it? Just lay down and rest. There is beauty in this darkness that can be harnessed and used to usher something new.
Absolute cinema.
I love everything about this game.
This journey is only a one way trip.
Somehow, this song feels both welcoming and terrifying at the same time.
The main "grumbling" noise tells me to get away, but the faint guitar(?) tells me to inspect it further.
Can’t help but feel really anxious every time I hear this. It just sounds so foreboding
This song is the constant banging at the back of my head, the thought of time flying faster than i can muster my strenght to do something instead of procrastinating
This has been mentioned in a couple other comments as well but i think the thing that makes this theme so impactful is that it gives me this feeling how we never know how much time we have left. We tell ourselves that we are still young and have a lot of life ahead of us. Yet reality is often cruel and death is always just one stroke of bad luck away. We are always just one coin flip away from death.
This ost gave me motivation to write, thank yoy
when you realise that your last save is 2 hours playing away and you just listening to this soundtrack
Must say this game is a fucking masterpiece no cap, no bs, no censor straight up unfair and based

Very atmospheric OST,Love her
Now randomly I just hear this theme start playing in my head and I immediately want to enter those dungeons again. It beckon’s me every time I hear those clicks
Hopeless dice rolls that aren't afraid to kill you... What a game
More than "not afraid" I'd say actively trying to kill you and i love it
Gives me shivers every time I boot up this game, haven’t felt like this since the first time I played the OG silent hill trilogy
i seriously can't get over how good this theme is. its just the most evil sounding shit ever. i can imagine myself being in the deepest darkest parts of a haunted manor's library studying tomes and shit while this haunting theme plays. Miro is an absolute genius when it comes to creating atmosphere through the simplest soundtracks
So fucking cold and simple melody
fear and hunger was an amazing experience, i finished both games, got nearly every ending. And I must say, hearing this song in the god of fear and hunger ending was the highlight, what a gem
not going to lie, I had this song on repeat last night and it genuinely relaxed me enough to fall asleep lol
I left the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger but the Dungeons have not left me
До сих пор иногда возвращаюсь сюда и слушаю этот трек. Великолепная музыка
This theme, and the game it belongs to is etched into my mind. I havent even played it once either, I just watched some gameplay videos on it.

Best game i ever played in my entire life. What a blind experience!!!! Much better than a soulslike
There's a very interesting detail about the sound that plays through the song, it sounds like the silent hill 1 piano puzzle, and it's interesting how it plays along with a piano itself.
Whilst from the very start the track instills a sense of hopelessness, I'd say the last 40 seconds is pure, unadulterated dread.
The horror version of “Aw shit here we go again”
I like that this comes back but it's distant later on.
I first heard it in SEW's video on the game, my immediate thought being "ah, that sound means we're returning to the theme of the title theme, it's like a full circle type deal" only for the analysis immediately after that to be the opposite sjdhnddjj
To me, the unsettling music is the "fear" aspect while the strange sound I percieve to be the rumble of a hungry stomach is the "hunger" part of the song. I really like how you can view this song in a lot of ways.
Idk how but they managed to make even the guitar strings sound like they are scared and starving
Fear & Hunger is the only game that actually make me feel dread and I love it.
The uneasy feeling from the out of tune guitar, the palpitations followed by a stomach growling.
This ''music'' is the very embodiment of Fear and Hunger in sound form.
it sounds to me more like someone crushing rocks in the distance, and the sound echoing off of the walls of the dungeon.
@@laudinesystem Thats a good hypothesis too!
Though I still think it's more to do on how the sound designer used pratical effects (a couple of plastic cups to imitate horse gallops for example) to convey the idea of heart beats and a growling stomach.
@@MRwho35 that and the bonesaw noise, haha
This game is the only one that makes me feel glad when I meet a friendly npc. A break from the shit hole of a dungeon.
This gives me goosebumps everytime I hear this.
This is the sound of RNG screwing you over
A get killed by infection classic
New made in abyss season looks lit🔥🔥
Just realise that the song that you hear when you die and the song you hear when you get an ending are basically the same. Wow
This was such a powerful moment, when John Cahara was scared and hungry
The lesson of this game... Oddly enough reminds me of Celeste.
The odds are always stacked against you. Every failure a chance to throw everything (yourself included) away, to give in to an uncaring universe. But in strife, lies hope. There is pain, but there is another path.
If you find the strength.
Fear and Hunger ist the embodiement of:
"It's supposed to be a fucking rpg, what role am i playing? the fucking victim? Jesus Christ!"
this is one of those songs that burrows its way into your skull and refuses to leave
I shouldn’t have jumped into this rabbit hole of a game while I was running an awful fever…
Now I can’t listen to the soundtrack without feeling nauseated.
POV: you took your hand off the W key for 0.3 picoseconds
I'm surprised I haven't seen any comments mentioning the song Kurenai by X Japan. Not sure if they're both based on another song (X have interpolated classical music in the past), or if the developer was inspired by Kurenai.
I mentioned it, but on the trailer version, I think it sounds a lot more similar in that version
@@matheusb.bergara5251 Eyyy, glad I'm not alone.

This game feels and sounds older than it actually is, like it was made in the 90’s or even earlier.
My favorite part is when they said “🪨”
so true!
I guess it's more of a bone breaking, and breaking, and breaking
The knocking sound to me sounds like a heartbeat. A heartbeat of a baby still in the womb. And i like to imagine that the sound belongs to the girl before she meet her fate at the end of the game.

Hearing this in the brothel as I was seeming cahara’s backstory hit me like how Undertale did as you were going into new home. I never thought this title screen music would have as much of an impact as it has. Something about this track is melancholic in a way that works beautifully for the contexts the song is used in
