I’m glad you mentioned the draw cycle. No one else has because “technically” it’s the same riser and cam as the v3x.
I have a V3. I bought the Phase4. I found the draw cycle to be night and day. Noticeable difference. The Phase4 is super smooth with no dump into my valley. Best shooting experience of any bow I’ve shot. I love it. And you don’t feel the thing shoot, it’s crazy.
Great review as always. Always love hearing your opinions.
9:18 Thank you for your honest opinion! Good luck with your shop, I'm quite sure it's really nice! I live in western Colorado so it's quite a drive.Your the best!!
Thanks for the review and commenting on aging shoulders. I’m 62 and have been shooting bows for as far back as I can remember. Several years ago on the first practice shot of the year I ripped a bicep tendon thought it was over for me almost had to have surgery. Dropped weight and had to start working out but am still shooting bows and hunting. Hoping to make it to at least 70 with my traverse or something else. Hoping to never have to jump over to a crossbow they are no fun..
Thank you for the thoughtful review. I primarily shoot a 2020 model that is a bit noisy at the shot but fairly fast. My backup bow emits a dull thump at the shot but is fairly slow. So far, I have had no issues shooting deer with either model - no string jumping despite the noise or slow speed respectively. I wish that bow companies could advance performance significantly enough to give an archer limited by a short draw length greater speeds without sacrificing too much arrow weight. Thanks again for the great review
I'm not tall but I agree with you about the 33 inch ATA and like my V3X a lot. Ever since my old Q2 with 65% let off (that I bought new in 2001) I've preferred less let off so my current 85% took some getting used to. Great review as always. You know what you're talking about and have shared a lot of useful info over the years. Thank you!
Awesome review. I'm going to my local dealer this afternoon and look at the phase 4. I'm basically sold on the 33 especially after this review but obviously will have to shoot both before I make a final decision. I'm going from a Martin ASL bow so I'm sure I'll love it LOL😆 I love your content. Keep up the awesome work 🙏🙏🤘🤘🔥🔥
Appreciate the honest review. Looks pretty good. Thanks.
Great review! I would love to see you review the elite omnia, especially with the smooth mods. I've been hearing a lot of great things about it. The phase 4 looks like a solid bow!
Great honest review! I also agree with the prices on the stabilizer being way too much money. It should cost less then half in my opinion. Looking forward to shooting the bow though.
Thanks for the unbiased review, new and old! Keep them coming!
the joking "dead in the hand" reference at 3.58 had me laughing more than i should haha
Your home looks beautiful! You're shop is awesome! I love your intrinsic quality of service, expertise, and excellence. Being from Wisconsin, I'm a huge Mathews fan. However, shoot only recurve - since 74! Do you sell any trad bows? God bless you and your family.
I couldn’t agree more the 33 doesn’t get as much love as it should. I think im personally gonna hold off since i just got a V3X over the summer! It definitely has been one of the best bows I have shot or shall I say better bows. I want to see how the limbs and rubber inserts hold up! Great review as well!
I also got a v3x 33 last year and wish I had waited a year now but wonder at 6 ft if the 29" bow is a little short. Like the longer one
Haven't watched a bow review in years but happy I saw this randomly. Very well done bro.
A little advice, you are somewhat technical in listing numbers that not everyone will immediately understand. Could throw in a little explaining, maybe skip able using video tags might be cool.
Cheers dude
I held one at one of my local shops and had to set it down and tell myself that my creedxs is still killing deer just fine lol. As was said here I loved the balance of the bow and the fit and finish is why I have shot Matthews since 04.
creed is probably the best looking bow mathews has ever made!!
I shoot a Mathews Conquest 2 for target and it's a very solid bow. I like the control you get with the long axle to axle and there is nothing like a Mathews IMO. But I have been thinking about getting a newer more modern bow and I don't really see any bows out there that do not have the parallel limb design. Plus since I only shoot at 50ish pounds...this model might be a good fit. Too bad I live in Michigan...although it's not all that far !!!
I am looking to get a new bow for this season and this has been one I have a lot of interest in. I do have a concerns about the 8 limb system tho 1. is a limb replacement going to be 2x normal prices? 2. how long until the rubber that separates the limbs need to be replaced form dry-rot or corrosion from the elements and how expensive?
That new Bridgelock for stabilizers is revolutionary.
If you go to mikes archery and see the review on the v3x. The decibel shows it’s quieter the the phase 4 29”. Not by a whole lot but just a smidge. So yeah I’m not sold on a bow that I will have to pay a additional $500 on stabilizing. Also it was faster
Think I’m going to get one. Very upset about stab prices but I will only shoot a front bar so not as bad.
I did shoot one of these and it is a great drawing bow. However, I went home with a Mach 34.
Still shooting a mathews triax and i see no reason to upgrade yet.....super interested in the new elite and athens however!
Thanks for not bashing! 😉
💯. Lord knows he had plenty of opportunity to.
Quick question that maybe you can help me understand on “commanding a shot”or target panic
No matter what there is sight wobble on a target when you are shooting and that never goes away. So at what point are you releasing the shot on the target? During the best time during your steady wobble? Just not sure because if you can’t hold a sight steady isn’t almost every shot you take technically commanding the shot?
As I was listening to you shoot, the one thing I could hear was the string "twang." I own a V3 27 and I am upgrading to the Phase 4 29. There was that much difference for me. I am a short draw (26 inches), and unfortunately the 33 stops before that short.
Same for me man. 26.5” draw. I would really like to try the 33” and maybe I could stretch a 27” draw lol
@@themilkdud8515 maybe you can. :)
Great review!
Are you planning on reviewing the Elite Omnia?
No elite dealers in the area.
My guess is that shooting the Athen's may have developed your muscle memory so that the Mathews draw cycle may now feel familiar. Draw cycles are so subjective and heavy influenced by the current bow a person is shooting.
No matter what you always are going to have that hump if that's the same Cam and module as what was on the vxr the V3 the vx33 you're going to have that drop you just can't get away from it unless they would still allow you to buy their target module and put it on there then I think you can go to 70 and it might feel just a little bit better but I can't do it man when I pull it back to hobo rocks when it comes into the valley and hit the back wall I want a bowl to draw straight back stop go to Anchor start my shot
Hey, I’m new to Archery and have never hunted with a bow. I want to get into it and go out this next coming season. I’m in Clearfield, PA and trying to decide on the Matthew’s V3X 33 or the Hoyt VTM 34. I have so much to learn lol
IMO, choose what you feel is best even with limited experience. Second, with limited shooting experience the longer the axel to axel and the longer the brace height, the more forgiving the bow will be in the shooter. This will allow you to build confidence in your ability to make consistent shots and give you time over a few years to develop some solid muscle memory. I would also tell you, buying a flagship bow is awesome but won’t make you better in any way over another solid bow from any other company. Again, IMO, the failure of a huge majority of bow hunters is they don’t shoot near enough ALL year long. Dusting off your bow 30 days before and firing lots of shots, does nothing. Because your not shooting quality shots, your just slinging arrows. Millions of deer were harvested with what we would almost call junk compound bows from the 80s and 90s. Don’t feel like you have to pull big weight either, that’s been an ego thing from the first compound made. Learn to be deadly 30 and in, shoot a arrow with 16-18% FOC, don’t get hung up on speed and draw weight from what people “say,” be able to draw the bow from a seated position smoothly, be able to hold at full draw for 1 minute, shot a solid one piece broad head to help harvest the deer if you hit big bone and remember there is only one Levi Morgan and we aren’t him. Have fun, learn basic bow shooting skills and the rest is just get outside. Glad to see you taking up the bow and learning new skills. Good luck sir……
So would the 80 percent let off make it less jumpy
Good review. I’ve got the Hoyt R7 Ultra and I’m disappointed in how loud it is. This is tempting.
Look into the new elite. Supposed to be crazy quiet for a speed bow.
...it's a bow, how loud could it possibly be ?
How heavy are your arrows?
@@ladyhawk7408 you'd have to experience it. Even my nephews boys asked their dad while I was shooting with him, "Why is Uncle Paul's bow making that noise?" It's got a loud buzz.
0:01 Can I please go back inside and grab a jacket, its cold...
All jokes aside, thank you for a unbiased review! It looks real nice but it's a pass sadly. Enjoy yours man it's sweet!
If you have the opportunity, could you please do a review of the new Prime Revex?
I will not. I am not a Prime dealer and won't be travelog to far reaching dealers to try one.
With the exception of the difference in limbs nothing has changed therefore how could the draw cycle be that much different???
keeping the engage grip is fail along with zebra strings...
So what you’re saying is it might be time to update my Switchback?
The Switchback is a phenomenal bow. I certainly wouldn't sell it and keep it as a backup if you decide to upgrade!
Ok man. Million dollar question. Which do you prefer…Phase 4-33 or the Vista 35?
The grip alone for me is a deal breaker. The Vista 35 has too much going for me to not pick it. Color options, price point, GAS strings, etc.
How would you compare the two in terms of felt vibe after the shot? I’ve got a 21’ 35 and it feels like a tuning fork after the shot. Everything is tight and tuned properly as well.
That bow is silent. The tags on the bow moving around is louder then the bow itself.
To pricey for me though.
would you perfer shoot this over the athens elevate ?
For me, the grip on the Athens is much more my style. Flatter and thinner.
One stabilizer is $260 😳
And I don't know if anybody else feels like this but I feel that a lot of people just hop on the train they don't even try other bows or mix it up or you know they don't give them a chance they just think that's the greatest thing going I shot the 34 the BowTech this year 2022 one time and it was a wrap I knew that was the bow for me it's just got so much going for it man and people don't even think about that I guess because they like shoot Mechanicals or whatever or they don't adjust by using the cam that you just by simply using the rest
I feel you lol I tried a couple hoyts, Matthew's and finally bowtech. First time archer I wanted to get a feel for what felt right for me I tested 8 or 9 different bows a few flagship and a few mid priced bows. It came to a decision between the carbon and the amplify, both felt great but the amplify felt great in my hand and I honestly liked a little more weight than what the carbon had. I tried most and went cheaper not for the price but the feel.
So it's basically like every other mathews lol. Thanks Nate for the honesty
Still using VXR worth the upgrade ?
I'd go shoot one for yourself and see!!!
Is archery like the MCU now? Man it's only been 4 years
Can you do a review of the mathews image at 50 pounds for us females?
Perhaps in the future!
How’s does this compare to the elite omnia?
No idea. I'm not an elite dealer and they've all fled my area as well.
Review the image.
Why shouldn’t a guy coming from an older bow like a halon buy a carry over V3X and save a few hundred bucks?
One could easily do that!
Am I the only one who doesn't like the name and wished they called it the V4 lol
No Vibration, eh?
I shot the Phase4 29" 70#/450gr arrow - No Stabs - and counted of 6 Seconds of Vibration 3 Times in a Row.
Stick to coloring books
It probably had some screws loose because that's not normal at all.
Another very in depth and honest opinion. Amazing how they can make a bow of 70#’s DW and it pulls like a 60+# bow. And get some great arrow speed s too. A smooth draw WITHOUT an irritating drop into the valley are the two most relevant features IMO. Speed isn’t an answer to killing. Want 425 ft per sec- buy a xbow lol.
Some loose screws, lmao! 🤣
@@casanovafrankenstein8875 It makes more sense than 6 seconds of vibration, lmao! 🤪🤣
Review the new Elite , I think a lot of us would like your opinion on it . 👍🏼
No dealers for hours of drive. I probably won't be bringing them in either.
The sun is shining, and you're standing in the dark?
Trying to film in full blown, wintertime sun placement, is horrible.
Wake up call! The bear kuma rested by Sean’s outdoor adventures was 74 dB and this is 92dB , where is the progress ? Your having the wool pulled over your eyes and ears
