Those Tamas are either 2006 or 2007. They're 10 lug bass drums with the new style Starcast mount which were both introduced in 2006. Black Starcast mounts and 8 lug kicks were 2005 and earlier. In 2008 Birch Performers gave way to Birch/Bubinga.
I also don't use a huge set up either. Currently I'm only using bass, snare, ride, and a bell with my gigging band (surf rock, spaghetti western, & psycobilly mashed up) and occasionally I'll add a hi hat and or floor tom for recording purposes. But the "core set up" of my kit is just bass, snare, and ride.
Thanks to you rdavidr i just purchased my starclassic walnut birch and its the best kit ive ever heard best bass drum sounds ive ever heard goes well with my chris adler warbird
4:03 - also have a tama starclassic and when i was gigging hard, i got my 5 piece + 4 cymbals (not inculding hats) down to 2 cymbal stands. i was so proud lol. Each cymbal stand held 1 tom + two cymbals. throw in a floor tom, hh stand and snare stand and it ends up being a pretty light load for a "full" kit.
+Llamaa there are lots of innovative drummers out there, although David is definitely innovative in some ways, I feel like his videos are more like "hey, David uses this, maybe I could also use this"
That is a nice Starclassic, back the in 90.'s Tama did a bunch of cool sparkle kits in Orange or turquoise. I decided a long time ago that if i could get any drum set i would go with a Tama or a DW custom kits are cool but i like the classics.
I wanted to make a different video for 20,000 but it happened faster than I thought lol. That video will be out in a few weeks though, check out my instagram @davidraouf for a sneak peak! ;)
+rdavidr your audience is growing because you're a baddass who can't stand still and has to experiment will all kinds of stuff in a musical instrument that has around 100 years old. you are a good example.
+rdavidr Pleeeease cut off those 100 rivets off the cymbal, please! I'm extremely curious about how it will sound! Please! (And make a video about it, please)
Really enjoy all of your videos man. I'm just getting around to posting some drum covers and I like watching all of your unique ideas ie. riveted cymbal, holy china, rim riser etc. Keep it up! Thanks!
Just got a ten yr old Tama Starclassic Maple Kit. I got a Kenny Aerinoff custom steel over brass 6.5”x14” snare with the kit. They are a beast. The snare is unreal on how you can set it up and it sounds amazing. I wish it had come with a 16x16 floor tom so now I’m looking hard to find one but there unbelievable hard to find in any wood.
Sweet setup. I used to use my ART Pro MPA II for my overheads, but recently switched to using it for my kick and snare instead and just using the preamps on my interface (TASCAM US1800) for my overheads. I've been very pleased with this change. Have you tried this?
I keep a basic setup too. four piece kits with Zildjian cymbals. Just 13" A Custom hats, 16" and 18" a custom fast crashes, and a 21" A Sweet Ride. Extras include a 12" Wuhan splash and 16" Zildjian oriental china. I use these last two only occasionally. One tom, one floor, bass and snare. That's it, Basic basic basic. I have three kits right now. 1. I have a Tama silverstar kit in a jazz setup. (18, 12, 14, 14x5 snare)That's my jam out/ open mic portable kit. I'll either use the whole kit or do a Steve Jordan setup with just bass and snare and a couple cymbals. Birch and they sound great. I tune 'em lower for acoustic/ roots/ folks rock. Coated heads on this one. 2. My new regular kit is ludwig signet terabeats. (22, 10, 12, 16). I also upgraded to flat base hardware for this kit. So light it was totally worth it! (the difference in weight is amazing!) I don't use the 10" tom all the time, but sometimes I add it in for fun. Plus a Tama 1st Chair round throne. Clear heads. 3. My old kit is Mapex Pro M (22, 12,13,16, 14x5.5 snare)and full setup of hardware that came with it. Clear heads. And almost have a complete set of extra hardware now that I used before I just got the flat based stuff. Tama mid line hit hat and matching bass pedal and a PDP throne. My main two snares are: A used newer Tama rockstar snare found it in a local antiques market. $40 with a black kevlar head on it! hmmm. what was up with that? I use a coated Remo now and added Odery drums wood hoops. I like it. You'd think it was a more expensive drum and its sound really good for the price. I get tons of compliments on the wood hoops. They are rad looking and the rim clicks are sweet! (14X5.5) A 14 x5.5 Pearl Sensitone brass alloy. This one was bought new right after Pearl introduced the Sensitone series. It's been with me for a long time. New snare wires, new strainer (newer version of the old style, the old one wore out. Yeah love this snare that much!) some patina on the bottom edge, hidden by drum hoop. Bummed but the snare has been around. This is my old standby. Once it had the snare wires with couple bent ones snipped off, a hole worn in the snare side head where the clipped off snares rubbed, and the strainer which had a bent arm and was loose. I was too superstitious about the sound to touch anything, until I got smart and fixed it up nice. Moongel used when needed. I cut some up into little strips, so just do enough to muffle but not too much. and I pronounce Tama like you do most of the time. We're American after all. No disrespect , but it just comes out like"tam-ah".. lol.. I can try harder.. Just wanted to share what i use because I love hearing about what people use and like. Derek from Maine.
Congrats and thank you for making awesome content! You inspire me not only to play drums, but to have fun playing drums. Your tips and "hacks" help me a lot as well! Stay awesome -Earl
I love Tama too, one of the best drum companies out there imo. Was wondering if you could do a video on micing your drums up in a live situation, like drums to a p.a. system...how to, what you need, etc. Thanks
Lol. I do the same thing with the crown royal bags. Mainly because I vape and dont want that film to that builds up in my mics. Plus I got tired of putting them away and setting them up everytime I want to record.
Have you tried the Mike Mangini sticks from Zildjian? I think they are Mahogany and the are tuff and heavy and Zildjian also has a heavy 5a and a heavy jazz
Is this not the fucking coolest drum channel on the web?? Fucking stellar mate!! I've benefited so much from your channel and you've inspired me and just over all made my drumming life ten times better. so killer of a channel. I've only been subscribed for about a week now and there's a lot more videos to scope!! How about a drum cover or solo, brother!? Cheers
I have an EFX Maple in the same silver sparkle finish as yours Same tom dimensions too with the 10,12 and 14. Just a 24" bassdrum. Sadly, over the last few years it's started yellowing. Do you know of any ways I could restore it back to to the nice silver that it once was? It almost looks gold now, which I really don't like...
Hey David! Huge fan here... I just wanted to ask you one question: What is the music we can hear at 5:27? Can't seem to find it anywhere... Good vibes from france!
rdavidr it is time to do another bass drum beater video! make a bass drum beater out of bone! Metal AF!!!! ima copy and paste this on all your sheet until you finally do it!
With regard to place names, we aussies would normally pronounce Montana as Montarna, but I am a firm believer in pronouncing words as the locals do, mainly out of respect, but also to avoid confusion when travelling or conversing. It also usually sounds better, anyway. With brand names, Tama being a Japanese based company, we all should pronounce the name the way the Japanese do, which is 'Tahmah'. Apparently, it is also an Italian word, pronounced the same way. Same with the Nikon camera brand- the Japanese pronounce it as 'Nikon', not Nykon' ( rhymes with nylon). My 20 cents worth.
+The Exile Studio - PRESETS FOR ALL its not dead center, but yeah I know, it came like that. Both black and white reso head look weird with this finish so Ive been putting off getting a new one.
TAKE THE 100 RIVETS OUT OF THE RIDE AND TEST THE CYMBAL WITH ALL THE HOLES IN IT
I second this.
i third this
I fourth this
I fifth this.
I sixth this
youre an Inspiration !!! TAMA in tagalog (Filipino dialect) means : " Correct "
may alam din akong ibang ibig sabihin ng TAMA. haha
Congrats for the 20,000! You really deserve it!
Birch > Maple * *grabs popcorn* *
for certain things definitely.

Slaying the game!
+Drum Beats Online doin my best! lol
Already 1,000 subs up. Great job man

dude you have such a chill drum room. I'm still only 17... when I have my own apartment/house, I hope to have something as cool as this.
you say "tama", I say "tama"
Thanks to you rdavidr i just purchased my starclassic walnut birch and its the best kit ive ever heard best bass drum sounds ive ever heard goes well with my chris adler warbird
that byzance is lovely, like a woman with freckles.
I like this
I'd fuck it yea

I like your foam and switch plates plus the blue rug
why do mein cymbals look like they were forged in the Arab desert?
Kameron Waddell because they areeee. No idk I don’t use them sooooo. I’m a zildjian guy
Kameron Waddell because the Byzance ones are, they're made in Turkey
Only specific models do, the HCS and classic ones don't.
Love your vids, you are the only one who actually does anything good and innovative in drumming.
That's kind of an over dramatization...
+[RGS] UsuallySleeping why not
+Llamaa there are lots of innovative drummers out there, although David is definitely innovative in some ways, I feel like his videos are more like "hey, David uses this, maybe I could also use this"
+[RGS] UsuallySleeping yeah
We need a white edition of the Tama Iron Cobras!
That is a nice Starclassic, back the in 90.'s Tama did a bunch of cool sparkle kits in Orange or turquoise. I decided a long time ago that if i could get any drum set i would go with a Tama or a DW custom kits are cool but i like the classics.
Congrats on 20k man, that's awesome. Also, don't be afraid of Logic X... it's the shit
+Austin Burcham Thanks dude! My buddy uses it so Ill have to check it out
I have that same Chad Smith 19" Holy China. It's my favorite cymbal of all time! Love it so much, hope it never breaks.
I wanted to make a different video for 20,000 but it happened faster than I thought lol. That video will be out in a few weeks though, check out my instagram @davidraouf for a sneak peak! ;)
+rdavidr Awesome entertaining video! Keep it up!
+rdavidr Nice cymbal felts! xD
@rdavidr, you could make wooden hoops for your snare. It would be a good video. 😁😀😁
+rdavidr your audience is growing because you're a baddass who can't stand still and has to experiment will all kinds of stuff in a musical instrument that has around 100 years old. you are a good example.

Brilliant Starclassic.
I live in Tama (Tay-ma) county, I feel you. Thanks for the great content!
Oi nice! This "TAMA" kit of yours is pretty sweet, but that 19" China has blown my mind!
Really enjoy all of your videos man. I'm just getting around to posting some drum covers and I like watching all of your unique ideas ie. riveted cymbal, holy china, rim riser etc. Keep it up! Thanks!

I started watching not that long ago. I really like your ideas. Keep keeping on.
Yooo bring those old school beats back😍
congratulations on the milestone brother
congrats man... I really enjoy and watch all you videos... hugs from Brazil...
A amazing talent brother
I have that same metronome. Love it.
Best kit, I have the non EFX version, same thing though. Those laminates look really good under stage lights/lighting effects.
I have a 6 piece but I only use a 12" Tom, and 16" Tom along with classic cymbals set up.
I knew you we're going to fake out in the beginning... I guess you can say i felt it...
I use a five piece kit, with two crashes, a hihat, and a ride. with a double bass
I really like the non glamorous vibe of ur videos
Wow!! gratz on these huge milestones not to mention having 400+ likes and not 1 dislike!!! thats a milestone in itself XD
I like your Lab/Drum Cave. Really inspiring stuff. Keep up the great videos man :D
Dude , youre awesome. Love all of your videos , keep it up man.

The Sabian groove hats are so good. They knock out so many competitors
that blue devils met was pretty cool I thought
THAT BEAT WHEN HE'S TALKING ABOUT THE CUMBALS THO

Hey David! Huge fan here...
I just wanted to ask you one question: What is the music we can hear at 5:27? Can't seem to find it anywhere...
Good vibes from france!
I'm so excited for you to get to 50000
Which color are those? It's hard to put the correct color together on the tama website. Keep up the great work
rdavidr it is time to do another bass drum beater video! make a bass drum beater out of bone! Metal AF!!!! ima copy and paste this on all your sheet until you finally do it!

All that vinyl 😱
haha if you had just done a video of you showing us your cymbal felts, I would've died laughing
Love your videos and your beard man!
And your shirt! I wear thrasher shirts as well :)

My 20 cents worth.
Which cymbal sleeves do you prefer? Just the tubes, or the tubes with a base?
is that blue rack tom on the shelf made by Majestic?
Congrats!!!
you should make a huge stack of all your cymbals
I have the tama imperial star. Basically the same as yours
Take a shot everytime David says "so"
*dies after watching
Can you tell me how much you paid for the drum set? And how much is it worth now pleaee
Love the track at the beginning. Half Flush right??
+Ivelisse González yep!
I think the wrap is called diamond dust.
I believe you are correct
Never place the hole in the center of bass drum. it's all about the air energy that goes away directly
+The Exile Studio - PRESETS FOR ALL its not dead center, but yeah I know, it came like that. Both black and white reso head look weird with this finish so Ive been putting off getting a new one.
congrats man!!
I have the Tama Starclassic Performer EFX 100% Birch! Well, I buying it I don't own it yet.
What a neat guy
You deserve more Subs man love the videos
Would you recommend buying 1,000 of random drum parts to build a kit or just try and find a deal with someone selling drums/stands/cymbals?
Are you ever going to do a give away for those cymbals
what about a cymbal stack video?
I got this kit on Sunday my dude
I got the same set 2 up 1 Dn but it's the white silk rap
Hey man scinse your not using that 10 by 8 tom can i have it or how much do you wont for it
Is it possible to made a drumheat out of adhesive tape? DO IT!
