Seems like the 3DO version really polarized people, some think it was an improvement, others thought it took away from the original game. Either way having grown up with the SNES version I'm just playing the 3DO version now and it's a blast, love the backgrounds! The soundtrack is great too imo, pretty different than the SNES version.
Fantastic video! I just finished the GOG.com 15 year version and this game hasn't aged. I remember the first time I saw it at a computer trade show. They had this bose sound system hooked up and the intro was just amazing. I like your speech bubbles as comments, keeps it very interesting and entertaining. I like the original PC version the best because that's what I grew up with. The anniversary editions are quite good also.
no each one had music, the original amiga and atari versions had music in the opening and ending cutscenes. the console versions each had additional music added on, either the chiptunes of the respective consoles or CD audio...the creator eric chahi actually details this on his website anotherworld.fr it's in french but there's an english site, just click the union jack on the side...he was pretty pissed off at interplay.
I had no idea there were so many versions of this game! I only ever played the Mega Drive (Genesis) version, and to be honest it's one of my favorite games of all time. Even if it does pale in comparison to almost every other version.
I could never pass Another World on my SEGA Genesis when I was a kid. It involved a lot of replaying and thinking ahead too pass, plus it was really hard to get the timings for the jumps, teleports, etc. right. But now, after all these years, I can watch someone else pass it, and it looks like an epic mini-movie :D
I had no idea how they shamelessly used the same old low-res sprites over the new backgrounds in the 3D0 version. I'm sure it would have taken them like 3 seconds to implement at least a little anti-aliasing.
Not sprites, polygons. Interplay had the license to port the game to other platforms. They could have done a plain port to the 3DO. Instead it was decided that to bring something new and worth buying to the game they'd hire an animation company to add detail and color to the backgrounds. Changing the character models would have been far more complicated. Also, anti-aliasing simply wasn't done in 1995. The frames per second penalty was colossal. Tube TVs naturally added soft blur anti-aliasing.
To me the problem with the 3do version is the atmosphere has been changed completely.. I like the backgrounds but they just don't really fit and especially with he models on top of them. I understand trying something new and different but the game is supposed to me minimalist which it has nothing of the such from the 3DO's version.. Wonder how much it cost to scan in the backgrounds (If they did infact do that).
Nice video man, but are a the 2º part of Out of this World, he calls Heart Of the Allien and you can played on Sega CD. It´s very very difficult, and was great. Like the fisrt one.
I'm not sure why you are criticising the Mega Drive/Genesis version, it was a perfectly good port and better than the SNES version. I happen to think the sounds are better, especially the music but perhaps that's just personal preference.
@@girlsdrinkfeck that's because DKC was made with pre-rendered sprites, making the illusion that the SNES can manage that quality of polygons but that's no true and this game betrays it. With loading times, slowdowns and low resolution. The only that can saves that port is the soundtrack that is amazing. If you are going to say that the SNES can manage good quality polygons because Star Fox shows good sprites that's no true neither. Because that the SNES uses the super FX chip to manage the polygons. PS. If you are going to say that I'm a Sega fan, I'm notice you that I am actually a MS DOS fan. I like SEGA and Nintendo by the same.
So I played the wrong version. I beat this game for Super Nintendo way back when it first came out. I should have waited 15 years and just got the rom for 3DO instead (that's the 15th anniversary edition with the best sound/graphics/ton of checkpoints?)
Wasn't only the SNES version the one with music? I was under the impression that all the other versions had only sound effects but no music (I played the Apple II version, and it had no music at all, and it looked the same as the Amiga version)
You can prefer the music on snes but for everything else the Megadrive version is better. Higher resolution, no loading ( yes the snes version have loadings ... ), less slowdown. Snes version is the worst version in this world and in another world too.
@@CarloNassar that's no true. The SNES processor is noticeably slow. That's why the Genesis can draw 3D polygons without any problem and the SNES had to require a enhancer chip to manage the same (err, the super FX). To explain this the SNES is a 8 bit/16 bit console. The main system is essentially 16 bit, but it has 8 bit based core (8+8), and its ram works in that situation. Plus that the SNES needed a secondary processor dedicated to manage the sound in order to decrease the work that the main processor had to deal. The Genesis in the other hand uses a Motorola 68000 processor, that's a hybrid 16 bit/32 bit chip. It's smooth and quick, it's easy to program but not so easy to dominate. The Genesis itself can make the same that can do the SNES + Super FX can do in terms of programming. So, knowing that, anyone can tell that even if the SNES port can be upgraded with, IDK, the super FX chip there's nothing that can prove that the slowdowns can be saved. That's by the fault of that slow processor (not for anything Sega invented that "blast processing" term :P ). I think that the Genesis version can be upgraded, the usage of the Yamaha 2612 is really poor, and the game can be better musicized, even the sound effects could been better. The graphics could be improved too, the resolution is fine, but lacks the Sprite rotations, and that something that the Genesis can do. Ok, thanks for reading this comment. I hope that it was interesting.
@@TheSuperPlayer707 It was a waste of time and I didn't even read the whole comment. Slowdown is inexcusable no matter what and I always knew the SNES processor was slow compared to the Genesis. I don't care about anything else you said.
@@CarloNassar sorry man, I doesn't want to offend you... Ok, you are right. The slowdowns can be saved if the game could cut some fps, making it more stable (I think that downgrading the frames from 60 to 30 could have been solved the slowdowns, making the gameplay more stable) maybe I exaggerated about that. But if there's anything that in the SNES version is totally unsurmountable is its soundtrack, is so atmospheric that it feels like I'm watching a movie. And respect about the SNES I'm was really exaggerated. The SNES maybe it's not so fast and not so versatile as the Genesis, but is cool in its own way, the SNES have a better colour pallet, more colours in screen, the unique mode 7 and other cool stuff. If you think I'm a Sega fanboy you're wrong, (actually I'm a DOS fan :P ) I love the SNES and the Mega Drive by the same, and I think the both are amazing on its own way. Hope this comment wasn't a waste of time :/...
No, it looks nice but the 3DO version is way too different. If you're talking about the 15th anniversary version, that's for PC. You can get it at GOG.com.
It's really not hard at all, you only have to memorize what to do trap after trap, it's only a matter of trial and error. I was never a "super gamer" and this was one of the games I was able to finish without cheating or looking at a walkhtrough back in the day on my amiga. The game was really ahead of his time and influenced many game designers. I think it really holds up nicely even today thanks to its engaging premise and art direction. My favorite version has to be the amiga version because it is altogether the original and the one I owned. I don't really like the upgraded 3DO version, the job they did on the backgrounds really affects the atmosphere. I also know they censored the "alien girl butts" near the end in the baths in all the Interplay versions, this is so dumb...
It's probably faster if you do it yourself. The creator isn't really bothering with it, unlike Cave Story (another one man game) that has aged better (although still doesnt has a remarkable remake)
The SNES version better than Genesis? But it's crap too. The low resolution, the loading times and the constant slowdowns... Can't be better than the Genesis. But the thing that is unquestionably better is the music that is fantastic. I think the SNES and the Mega Drive versions are in the same level of quality.
Thanx for an interesting video. Personaly, I must admit I like the first original version and its stylish rigidness the most. Genesis had some of the best music, but it did sound a lot different than the other ports.
Love Another World, and it was the game i bought more versions. Had it for Amiga 500, Megadrive and Snes.
The original version was on Amiga and then ported to other machines. Genesis had some extra scenes.
I had no idea how they shamelessly used the same old low-res sprites over the new backgrounds in the 3D0 version. I'm sure it would have taken them like 3 seconds to implement at least a little anti-aliasing.

The gun has 3 levels; The third one is fully charged and powerful
Nice video. :)
The 3DO version was impressive. I only got to play the ST version of the game.
the correct name is Chahi ! not ChaChi
The PC version wasn't the original. It was the Amiga version on which the whole game was made !

The IIGS version had plenty of music. Burger Heineman ported it to the IIGS first as a proof of concept before doing the SNES version
I thought you were kidding, because I didn't know Win3.1 had those multimedia capabilities.
where's the jaguar version
Heart of the Alien (Sega/Mega-CD) is not a sequel?
It is, but not made by Chahi.

Emest,emest, hotinna

I had the snes port as a kid man this game made me shit my pants in the beast part

not eric chachi it chahi
What's wrong with your genesis? The laser sounds are so different from the cartridge I own.
I brought 20th Anniversary Edition on gog few years ago great game
like the Tank in the coloseum, fantastic game
Amiga best soundtrack better sound effect 8:21

Mietuba
