      Given the price of the GH6 and that I just bought a G9 (an upgrade for me 🙂) I think I will have to wait until 2024 or so for a GH6. In the meantime I can enjoy your and other MFT user videos. Thanks!

      id be interested to see what the gh6 is like compared to say the om1 or GH4 compared to the EM1 mk3 when it comes to something like birds in flight or action photography, could even throw in a DSLR to compare to the two mirrorless.

    Guess the algorithms found me. This is the first time I've seen your channel. You're a kick & a delight & very informative. I especially loved this video b/c I am a "bird nird." I appreciate all the technical information you impart, even though I will have to watch this over and over, plus take notes (old brain.) I became addicted to birds about 15 years ago. I love your shots and the beautiful birds that you have on your side of "The Pond!" While not as technically oriented, in my bird outings, I absorb the entire process of being in nature (fair weather, that is), observing, learning, shooting. If I get any photos half as good as yours, that is a triumph for me. Been shooting Olympus since 1978 with the Olympus OM1 MD and all Olympus lenses. Digital provides so much instant gratification and editing is kinda like the excitement of having film processed. Now fortunate to own OM1 Mark i and Mark ii, along with a 40-150mm & 75-300mm; I even use an adapter & my "Old School" primes. Now, if someone would just drop a 100-400mm in my lap, my life would be complete! Thanks so much for your videos! Oh yes! One last observation: You refer to "hides" while we call them "blinds." Frankly, "hides" makes more sense; afterall, I don't know that a photographer can be blind and hopefully the birds aren't blind! Love the differences between British English & American English: cousins yet to different.

    Some fabulous images there and great to see what the GH6 can do. The high ISO image quality is amazing, shows how far cameras have come. Some good tips on how to take bird photos, wait for them rather than trying to follow them and your posture too while waiting between shot. using the eye as a tip lol. but so true. here's a tip when you haven't stationed the camera (free hand held). if you see a scene and are ready to shoot, bring the camera up to your eye while your eye is still focused on the bird. this keeps the scene pretty much the same (so long as the bird doesn't move).

    Absolutely enchanting, Emily! And the birds were charming too! Great tips and demonstration of the GH6 capabilities. There's one thing I kept waiting for, didn't see it so I watched again. You recorded in 4k and FHD. The video was great, but I waited for the next step: 4K photos. Lumix missed a tool in the GH6 that they promoted previously, but it's still possible to get 5.7k/4k/FHD photos from video. At high fps and shutter speeds with high quality/low compression, the GH6 might just blow the roof off limits for bird/wildlife photography! This microfournerds challenge is waiting for someone to dare go where no one's dared go, yet!😀

    Loving your recent content. The GH6 just makes me smile every time I use it. I left MFT for Sony but didn't like the trade offs, the GH6 bought me back and I am back in love with photos and video. I think the ISO performance at sub 10,000 beats the Sony. Whether that is just really good noise reduction in camera, I don't know, but it feels magic.

      Thank you! I am a big fan of “one area plus human detect” most of the time - great results! I changed the human detect to “human/animal” for this shoot. Very snappy and especially handy when shooting through branches. It knew right where to focus.
      Some of the “bird in flight” photos were happening so fast, so I locked my focus on the branches parallel to the action and it worked really well 😊

    Reminds me of Helicopter spotting where I apply most of the tips you've mentioned. But I'd never go as fast as 1/2000s and ISO 10,000 (my Sony A6300 can't handle that in combination with the SEL 55-210mm - way too much image noise!). For me up to 1/800s and ISO 1,250 at f/6.3 are the maximum.

    Really enjoyed this one. I wanted to ask you something that has been on my mind. You touched on it in this video. I've heard different things over the years from different people, but what do you think? Is it better to record in 120 4K and slow it down in the timeline? I'm talking about video quality wise. Of course the benefits are cool having auto focus and sound but some say it's better to do the slo mo in camera using variable frame rate when it comes to quality. Can you tell me what you think. I love everything about you and your channel. THANK YOU!

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  2 роки тому +1

      I would say with the gh6 there is no benefit using variable frame rate. So long as you’ve got the right shutter speed so it looks good when you slow it down, I’d much rather have auto focus and the option to use the clip as a normal clip if I want to as well. In terms of quality I think they’re exactly the same (10 bit 4:2:0) for 4k 120p 😊

  • @Devondirector
    @Devondirector 2 роки тому

    I love my GH5 and definitely looking at the GH6. My one gripe is when using the 100-400 at max focal length regardless of tripod I struggle to get rid of shake. The stabilization (Camera and lens) is fantastic, but for some reason after a few seconds into a locked off shot it thinks its solved the problem and it reverts back to the shake, handheld isn't so much an issue as it seems to recognise genuine movement, its such a shame because for the few seconds it does work it looks amazing for those distance shots on windy days. Have you ever noticed this issue before?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  2 роки тому

      I think sometimes it’s better to turn all stabilisation off when using any lens on a tripod, as it can confuse the camera exactly like you’re describing. Maybe turn it off (I think just the button on the lens will disable the lens and camera stabilisation automatically) and see if you still have the issue?

      @@MicroFourNerdsI am not here to diss GH6. I own one and try to learn it in same scenarios as you do. Noise is a personal preference. Most pictures looks fine, but the one at 1:59 looks very noisy despite it is only ISO 2000. The ones from 4:22 less so, but much more than many others. And since I can't see it at stationary subjects, I assume it is something with settings. From what I read and saw on DPReview, noise in shadows at higher ISOs when DR Boost in disengaged is very high. And at 75fps DR boost is being switched off. You don't have to take my advice, but seriously, this 25% increase in burst rate is in my opinion not worth sacrificing what looks like at least 2EV or even 3EV in noise performance.
