Man & Dog Episode #2: • 68 Days Across Newfoun...
Video description: This is the story of my approximate 120 km hiking and canoeing trip across Newfoundland's rugged Avalon Peninsula in July 2015. It was also my first attempt at documenting my expeditions.
I left from Trepassey in the south, scaled up the Northwest River, and moved through the reserve finishing at Peak Pond on the Salmonier Line. This was a great journey that can be completed by anyone who has moderate skills in the backcountry. Even just doing the canoe route from Mt.Carmel or Cape Pond (alternate starting points) to Peak Pond is a very unique wilderness experience so close to our capital city St. John's.

Spent the afternoon fishing where you caught the "big dog" last Saturday. Great country, did alright myself with a pair of 13 inch trout. Going to plan a trip in there for a few days. Got little hurried on the weekend, the wind came up and had to cross Mt. Carmel pond to get back, just made it. Great videos keep it up!

The tail end of that route. Last 50k is a government advertised paddling route but never used. Be good one for you and Jim to tackle. Check the Rock off your bucket list then. Right close to St.Johns. Stop down to George Street for beers and tunes when your done 👍

I just did a two day trip across the northern Avalon living off just trout.
The first 1/3 of the trip was fairly easy. Mostly tuckomore. Then the eastern side was super thick trees.
I worked like a dog the second day. And wasn't hungry at all, just super, super thirsty. Drinking from every book n river i could find.
First day I got 3 trout but didn't eat them till next morning.
I got about 6 hours good sleep, then set off to bay bulls.
Second day i caught 3 more trout for supper.
Then at 6:35 pm i made it to baybulls.
It was always a thing i wanted to do. And dame do it ever feel good to get it out of my system.
.But it you sir, you and just one of your videos that made me say, F it!.... im gonna do it.
So thank you in so many ways brother. Because my journey is far from over. 👍

Thanks , Justin for showing us that this level of solo northern wilderness tripping can be done , with the right attitude , desire and preparation . Your channel is exactly what I have been looking for , as this type of hard core northern wilderness tripping that you do speaks louder to my dreams than any other iv'e seen anywhere . Recently subscribed and am very much looking forward to following along on your other adventures . All the best .

Great video from start to finish. I've been to Mt. Carmel Pond once or twice and I'd love to do the cane route across the reserve. Watching your video I don't know if I'm tuff enuf to handle it, especially solo.

Thanks for the kind words man, I appreciate it. If you plan well, take your time and put your mind to it, as cliche as it sounds, it is possible. Not an extremely rugged route! Let me know if you ever decide too and have questions. Cheers!

Great stuff Justin!! I can't tell you how much I enjoy getting to watch these journeys you and others like Joe do. I love the outdoors but do to some physical happenings over the last few years it has slowed me down and my ability to do what I used to be able to. I'm only 49 but have the spine of an 80 yr old according to my dr. And that's how it feels. I push and push but I'd give anything to be able to do this stuff. So thank you for your efforts and posting content like this. It's very inspiring and keeps that fire alive..if you know what I mean. I won't bother you with non stop comments. I just wanted you to know that what you guys do has a much deeper meaning for some of us like myself who can't anymore but dammit still want to!! Lol. Cheers man!!

Okay, you know, it is rare to get these kind of films, especially that far north and remote. Sure, we have some people doing this in Ontario, but mostly Algonquin Park.
But, I would love to see something out of Polar Bear and Opasquia Provincial Park - here in Ontario, I know, hard to get to, all that said, keep it up, you are producing stuff that is really good, cheers.

Thanks Malcolm that means a lot to me man. Glad you enjoyed it. There will be more to come including the documentary of my 700 kilometre expedition across Newfoundland's remote wilderness. So stay tuned, cheers from the Rock!
