  • Hi Folks!
Enjoy the Series Finale of my New 6 Part Series - 60 Days Solo in the White Wilderness.
Join me solo camping with the dogs exploring wild and untouched Newfoundland & Labrador winter wilderness.
In the series finale, I continue to explore the white and frigid Labrador wilderness. But Spring is coming. We have to be careful to not get caught deep in the bush when the inevitable mild, wet thaw weather arrives.

    Saku's Book:
    flankerpress.com/product/saku...
Justin Barbour goes on a long expedition through Newfoundland & Labrador’s most remote woods with his dogs Saku and Bear. There is first class-rarely seen wilderness galore. Together the companions explore, challenge themselves and kick back by the fire. The peace, beauty and unpredictability of nature is all around them.
This series consists of 2 winter expeditions covering 250 kilometres. The first begins in Newfoundland as Justin and the dogs venture into the faraway interior woods for a month. Justin moves by snowshoes and hauls a 250lb toboggan. The team pushes their way towards the vast 2,895km2 Bay Du Nord Wilderness Reserve.
The goal is to explore the province's vast, uninhabited winter woods and frozen waterways. But it will not be easy. It's hard work all the way but with it come rewards bigger than most can imagine!
Be prepared to feel the elements, taste a true wilderness journey, and travel the old way leaving the motors behind.
    The adventure begins!

I have been a long time admirer of your bushcraft skills but I am in awe of the time, energy and creativity required to hump your video equipment, set up your scenes, shoot then return to reclaim the gear and THEN proceed to move forward....I am also flat out envious of all those skills.

My Dad gave me his Algonquin snowshoes (made in 1957) when I was 10 years old (1964). I used them a lot and in 1973 or 74, I wore out some of the babiches on one shoe. I re-strung it in the bush with yellow plastic coated blasting wire to make due. I still use these snowshoes up till now, and it still has that yellow wire on it. I've had them for 57 years, and they still keep me afloat on the snow. The yellow wire gives it a character of its own.

Loved to see the hockey tape come to good use. It's all about the ability to see multiple uses of something, and most people don't even know what hockey tape is. For a lot of purposes it's so much better than duct tape given how hardy it is to just pure abuse. It's meant to be bashed around on the ice so it has to be. Duct tape just cannot compare in that regard.
Personally I use it for certain areas of a bicycle I use all year round, and it's stayed on for years now without issues. I can recommend carrying it in a ziplock bag though because it is a bit messy and smelly lol

My gosh Bear looks so content out there. Although she is playing you, could haul a lot more :). Wonderful series mate, cheers from Ontario.

She could for sure but nice to ease her in. Had her hauling about 90-100lbs this past winter 2022 (will be a series in the fall). Wish I started her at the pulling from the beginning and not at age 7
