I took a 315 Shift out for a few days Luca. The 300 was definitely wobbly on flat shots agreed, but the 315 was steadier yet still not plum for off center. I might use a 300g in a 100" version as the 315 felt well hoopy. The slices tended to deflect a little off the hoop on what seemed a slightly thick hoop. This 315 stick allowed me to achieve aggressive kick serves something I need and revelled in. I held off on the Clash because it was too wild at baseline and sprayed a little near the doubles alley. What do you know along comes the delightful Shift. My biggest regret with the Shift is Wilson didn't include a Cape with it... 🤥
Excellent review - you're 100% right - jack this up to say 305g and with a higher swing weight will be a big improvement. I'd also lower the RA slightly to say 64-66 and close up that 16x20 pattern slightly to reduce the launch angle slightly.
Thank you! I like the idea of closing up the string pattern a little bit as long as it doesn't take away from that awesome snappy sensation when you groundies.
Damp. Previously I was using Vcore98 and latest Ezone 98.Shift's sweet spot is much smaller than Ezone 98, but it is a pleasure once you get it. Its comfort is higher, but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the POP of my Ezone. Shift's POP is lighter and acceptable. The vibration produced by the shift rackets seemed too much. For this reason, I had to replace the grips with the Absorbe models. Now I'v very comfortable and enjoyable rackets. They do their job perfectly.
Anyone who is interested in this racquet needs to watch this. Your description and modifications mimic my journey nearly 1:1 and everything you said is so accurate, objective, and matches my experience. Well done !!! The Pure Drive Era is over me as I shift back to Wilson.
Thank you Justin! It means a lot to hear positive feedback like this. Glad you liked the racket, still not sure if I'm shifting but it's getting close...
Completely agree that you can’t really hit flat winners off moonballs. In a way it encourages you to not get into those positions so your game improves
Yes, it's a fantastic racket. It's similar in some ways (definitely has a bigger sweet spot), but it's so much softer than the Shift I don't actually find them as comparable as the shape/specs suggest. It's still probably the closest playing frame to the Shift though.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver Do you personally prefer the Shift 300 over the Speed MP? I have them both customized to approx. 310g, 315mm balance and 322 SW. I like them both very much and can't quite decide between the two at the moment… 😅
I think that might be my next video. I just put both of them in my bag to answer that exact question. I have them both customized the exact same way (maybe a little heavier stock).
I hope this gets it's own video. I'm coming from a customized Pure Strike 100 3rd gem and looking to switch to either the Shift 300 or Speed MP weighted up. Can't decide so I was almost going to pull the trigger on both 😅.
Dude! Your forehand looks EXACTLY like Rafa’s except for your bent arm at contact! Did you model after him? Spot on review - well done! And I agree the Shift is pretty darn great, but I can’t get myself to buy a racquet that is going to be tweaked (presumably for the better) by summer…
Wow, that's such a nice thing to say, thank you! Probably subconsciously because I grew up watching him (although I was always more of a Fed guy). I totally get that. I'm sure they'll nail it, unless they go far away from this thing, it should be really really good.
Hey good review man. Any recommandation to heal a ‘tennis elbow’ when I’m using this racket? Especially I feel it after serving (I will lower the string tension and use a multifilament. Shall I custom some weights or using a leather grip? Thanks
Thank you! Using a softer string at a lower tension is a great first step. Adding weight will relieve some of the impact from the arm. It certainly helped make the racket more comfortable for me during this playtest. I usually go with a leather grip.
Hey man a quick update: I have used a multi filament + lowering the tension and it was still hurting my elbow after serving a few balls. What I did is putting my dampener on the string above ( I know it’s not supposed to be the right place but it helped me and I haven’t felt any pain afterwards). you could try and tell me if it helps.
Thanks for watching! I haven't tested the 315 long enough yet but from my initial thoughts I would say no. The swingweight is already quite high and 315 grams is plenty for static weight.
Thank you! To be honest, they're not all that comparable. Even with the more balanced update to the Aero, it's still significantly more forgiving and powerful than the Shift. Think of the Shift 300 more of like a traditional player's frame (small + precise sweetspot) just in a pretty spin friendly package. It's more comparable to the Aero 98.
It's a racket that excels when you use topspin so, yes! Definitely suited for topspin players. It definitely suits full poly, although the frame is already quite stiff so there is potential for discomfort there.
What string did you use in your play test? What tension do you recommend in a full poly with the Shift? I bought a Shift 300 and like it. Im going to try different strings. Now strung it with Tier One FireWire at 55. Will also try Grapplesnake Tour Snioer and Game Changer and Restring Zero and maybe a few others. I agree with your review. Like the feel of the racket and it’s all around capacity for spin, control and power..
Hi. Maybe you ll think it s weird but I hesitate between 4 raquets to Switch to. In a hand, his shift and the vcore 98 and on the other, the Gravity mp auxetic (with lead) or speed mp auxetic... What is your thoughts ? Thx
Not weird! Those are all great rackets. I would highly recommend demoing them if that is an option for you. The Gravity and Speed would be more geared toward control while the VCORE 98 and Shift are better for spin.
Hi Bruno! The two rackets aren't really that similar at all. I haven't actually reviewed the VCORE Pro 100, but I've played with it a bit and it's much softer and less spin-friendly than the Shift.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver My bad probably got confused with all the reviews watched haha. I love my vcore pro 100, but looking for something that gives me a bit more spin/weight of shot, without giving up as much of the comfort and control
To be honest, the string bed density kind of scared me away a little bit. I still haven't played with the 315 very much but I can tell you there is a way bigger difference than just that 15 gram weight. I've been trying to move away from 18x20s, and that's one of the tightest ones I've seen/felt.
I play the Gravity Tour. Great control and forgivness. But lacks a bit of power and spin. MP is too powerful and miss the control. Could the Shift 300 be a realistic alternative?
Funnily enough the Gravity Tour is my current racket. After going back to it after the play test, they're really not all that similar but if you're looking for something that still feels very precise but you want more control, it's definitely a good option.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouverI am very cautious when it comes to changing racquets. I will try the following rackets: Head Gravity Tour Auxetic (when it comes), Gravity MP Auxetic, Speed Pro Auxetic, Wilson Shift 300, 315 and Pro Staff X I hope that one of them fits for me....
@@minchoi5083 I’m exactly the same - I play Gravity Tour and love the feel and control but miss spin and free power. I also have a Gravity MP but for some reason I can’t gel with it. I demo’ed the Shift and R&R is spot on in his review - it’s too light but that can be fixed, it’s crisp, precise, good spin and power (but not insane which is better for advanced players), and better for spin shots over flat shots (for me, most evident on high forehands where a buggy whip/reverse forehand worked much better than a flat shot). Of the racquets you listed, a lot of fine choices but I’ll offer one more that’s my current winner: Tecnifibre TF40 305 16x19. @@RacketsRunnersVancouver Hey I finally tested all the rackets (Head Gravity Tour Auxetic, Gravity MP Auxetic, Speed Pro Auxetic, Wilson Shift 300, 315 and Pro Staff X) and it has now become the Pro Staff X, with 2g each at 10 and 2 o'clock. That's why I inevitably wind up going to another racquet. If you're in a Marathon match and tired. A small sweetspot will make or break you depending on your patience and anger management skills. How did you like the 99 sq in headsize. For an accurate yet powerful racquet that tells you volumes about Wilson's construction thinking. Hit with the racquet near perfect every time or buy another racquet. Thanks for the test but if you're battling with bombs late in a match your focus just isn't as good despite whoever you are. No question accuracy pays huge dividends but can you maintain that accuracy through to the end of a gruelling important match?
Agreed, and I think they've taken that into consideration recently and tried to make their rackets a bit more forgiving especially after the Clash's success. But historically they've always been on the "small sweetspot" side, absolutely. I liked the 99 square inch head, although it did feel smaller than a 99.
