"Its gonna get worse, it can't get worse", oh Mari. Respect to you for hanging in there and finishing. Now on to Kill Bill 2.
When she said that it made me laugh harder than I have all week.
In this installment of Movies with Mary, Mary is traumatized for life by Quinton Tarantino while her UA-cam fans gleefully watch! Thanks again for taking one for the team Mary!!!
Haha. Ohhh Marijke, l feared for you soul when this won the Tarantino poll. I could not stop laughing at Marijke cringing and squeeming at the ultra violence. The unlimited supply of blood and gore with a backdrop of black and white or blue silhouettes. Great great great engaging reaction. Love it.
At one point I was honestly worried for Mari. Glad you held it together girl.
Lol. That’s what I came to this one to watch - I have seen Kill Bill maybe 20 times so I just went straight to Mary’s reaction to the crazy 8s fight.
Quinton 😅
@@kreuz7sieben Damn Spell check
Tarantino's eye for detail is insane.
O-Ren Ishii warns the bride she might not last five minutes in a fight with her. O-Ren then proceeds to lose the duel in a sequence that is exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds.
Don’t worry, Vol.2 is less violent. Still violent but nothing like that big final battle before O-Ren
I don't know it's more emotionally violent though. The first half is more of a cartoon.
I love the alternation between "Cell Block Tango" and "I need a hug" as a reaction to the kills.
Can’t wait for part 2. How she likes contrast compared to part one. QT has hinted of part 3.
I wont believe the part three narrative until I'm at the theatre waiting in my seat. Cya then
I don't think it's going to happen. He also talked about a Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs spin off. And he said he wants to make a Star Trek movie, so...😅
My belief is that Tarantino loves his characters, so he is constantly thinking about what happens to them off the screen. That's where The Vega Brothers and the individual Inglourious Basterds stories and KBv3 all come from. You can also see it in him writing the book for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or expanding it into a TV cut for Netflix (well, someday). He also loves franchises like Friday the 13th and Star Trek. But the draw of the new will always win out for him, which is also why these projects basically never happen, except for that Hollywood book.
@@irabernstein thinking your right. Maybe I’m more wishful dreaming than reality.
@@victores9588 part of whats great was untide loose ends .. deliberately left like ya there could be more but also just enjoy it for what it adds
Copperheads daughter
The boy that got spanked before fighting Oren
A blind Elle Driver? or revived Budd who knows
"with blood and violent scenes"... I mean, that practically describes the whole movie 😅Also pretty much everyone had it coming in that movie! Throughout the whole movie all I can keep thinking is poor Mary, I hope she got that hug afterwards!
Remember when you saw Uma Thurman before in Pulp Fiction? Remember in that movie when she's having a milshake and tells John Travolta about the TV pilot she starred in? Go back and re-watch. She describes Kill Bill which only came out a decade later
Q&U were writing this movie together during the filming of Pulp Fiction!
And maybe Jules shows up.
Tarentino is a big music fan and puts a lot of thought into the music he puts in his films. He hand picks a lot of it himself. The band you see performing, he heard them in a shop in Japan and asked the store owner to give him the CD. He was aware he was being extremely rude but he knew he wouldn't remember or be able to track them down otherwise. He got in touch with them and had them perform in the film, their a real band.
"Wowch!" is the perfect word for that first fight scene. well done!
OMG LOL, your facial expressions made this the best reaction yet. You have gotten through one of the toughest movies, you're ready for anything now. Proud of you Mary.
But it was really funny watching your reaction to discomforting scenes.
WIGGLE
YOUR
BIG
TOE! 👣
When you were nervous in the beginning I laughed and said “Buckle up Buttercup!” lol You’ve come a long way and I love that you are still willing to react to movies that you know you’re going to be uncomfortable with.
You really went through it with this one. 😂 Good job on handling it pretty well. Can't wait for part 2. 👍🏽
All Tarantino's movies have marvellous soundtracks, but none of them are "orginals for the movie" but "very special" music (for him and for us)...
O-Ren Ishii tho
Hateful eight has original score by the legend ennio morricone
@@aaxyz9990 Most of Morricone's score is unused pieces from The Thing soundtrack.
RZA & Robert Rodriguez composed some original tracks for KILL BILL.
LOL!!! Mary closed her eyes during animation. LOL!!!!
lol "she had it coming'....love the singing, Mary :). the chewing tobacco spitting is a throwback to the cowboy days, they didn't think twice about spitting in the street or a bucket. horses were pooping in the street, so spitting some spit there was nothing.
Congratulations on surviving to the end, Mary! 😆
With the aid of her trusty cat!
Tarantino is one of those guys where even if you don't enjoy what he's doing, you can't help but admit he's unlike anyone else in the business. has a totally unique style among modern moviemakers.
On another note, I think you might have discovered a few new facial expressions during those fight scenes haha.
Great reaction! It was so much fun watching your face during the showdown scene at the club lol
Mary, I appreciate that you watch movies that aren’t necessarily your cup of tea just to entertain us. And your reactions are certainly entertaining. Thank you.
Haha. Ohhh Marijke, l feared for you soul when this won the Tarantino poll. I could not stop laughing at Marijke cringing and squeeming at the ultra violence. The unlimited suoply of blood and gore with a backdrop of black and white or blue silhouettes. Great great great engaging reaction. Love it.
Not being into blood and watching a Tarantino movie is like being lactose intolerant and shopping at The Cheese Cake Factory. But I really like cheesecake and your vids though so sometimes the explosive reactions are worth it.
Also RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan produced some of the soundtrack for this movie.
"Go home to your mother!" My favorite line from this franchise honestly
Marijchu, three things…
One: Thank you for giving us the best reaction on UA-cam for this movie.
Two: Your intros and editing skills are getting so good.
Three: I really appreciate your observation of the color grade and obscure film style that QT has. As well as the film score. All top notch.
Keep up the good work.
I haven't had so much fun watching a reaction in quite a while. A number of your comments had me belly laughing.
"I need a hug" was my favorite.
Your attention to detail and recognition of different aspects of this classic while looking completely distraught for the majority deserves maximum respect. 👍👍
I saw this in theaters when I was 13 😂 I was a little traumatized but totally invested in the movie lol
4:30 Sudden Chicago song outburst 🎶😝🎶
8:40 Reprise
13:57 to 14:13 "Honesty is such a lonely word."
--LOL. I envy how fast your brain works, Mary 🤣. It's what makes you the perfect reactor.
Think that all of us watching Mary here sent a virtual hug! Bless you for staying the distance.
Excellent, intelligent reactions! You pick the perfect details and express them very clearly.
"I feel like I'm aging by the minute." "well I am". lol
The actor playing Hattori Hanzo was Sonny Chiba, who was a legendary actor in old Kung Fu movies which were a major influence for Kill Bill. Unfortunately Sonny passed away last August.
Mary: This can't get any worse.
The crazy 88s arrive and the killing begins 🤣
Thats the best Kill Bill reaction I've ever seen. the faces you were making were priceless and by the end you were totally into it :)
everyone on the plane has a sword though.

I literally LOL’ed several times during your reaction Mari! Thank you so much for this reaction, it was so awesome. This is one of my all time favorite movies. I can’t WAIT until you do Volume 2! Please do it next!
So, pretty much EVERYTHING in this movie is a nod or a tribute to a movie or a movie genre that Tarantino probably grew up watching. As an example, there is a Japanese movie from 1973 called 'Lady Snowblood'. It's about a young woman who was literally born for the purpose of seeking revenge on the criminals who destroyed her family. So, the film about a woman on a path of revenge is thematically very close to 'KIll Bill". And visually the sword fight in the snow in 'Kill Bill' could almost have been taken directly from that film. And the song that plays at the end of that scene is the theme from 'Lady Snowblood' - a song called "Shura no hana (The Flower of Carnage)" which is actually sung by Kaji Meiko, the actress (and singer) who played 'Lady Snowblood'. Here's a trailer: ua-cam.com/video/KkNvjXJKg8Q/v-deo.html
Tarantino means violence. Lots of violence. :D
This is Tarantino's nod to Japanese martial arts movies, known for their over-the-top (to the point of cartoonish) violence.
Very first time I saw this and right away the ironsides theme played I knew it was going to be great.
16:28 It was not in this video but if you go back a moment, that woman's phone rings. You might recognize the ringtone:
It's the tune to a Dutch football song.
"It can't get any worse"
10 seconds later she yanked out someone's eye lol
13:00 That song is "The lonely Shepherd" published in 1977 by James Last en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lonely_Shepherd
THANK YOU for putting yourself thru that. Was glorious
15:13 - That yellow track suit Uma Thurman is wearing was Tarantino's tribute to Bruce Lee in "Game of Death". 👊
Her fight with the Crazy 88 was done in Black and white to prevent the movie from becoming NC-17 because it was so bloody and violent.
To explain the "spitting" thing, that's tobacco. My dad used to chew it, and leave spit-cans all over the house. You chew tobacco snuff (his brand was Skoal, it comes in small round tins, I don't think I've seen chewing tobacco in years!), you get the nicotine from it in your bloodstream from your jaw, you casually spit the juice from it A LOT. Dad quit tobacco when he had cancer in his jaw and esopphagus. That's what the spitting is about! :)
Great thing about Tarantino is that he finds music that's forgotten and brings it back to life. And give great songs a revival. KB1 is great with all the homages made to different genres, KB2 has that too, but in a more subtle way I would say.
I knew this one would be interesting for her to react to lol. Loved it!
To answer your question about spitting, its chewing tobacco, also known as snuff, they take a pinch of tobacco, and put it in their mouth just under the lips. You dont swallow the tobacco spit, so you just spit it out. If you seen any older cartoons you might see a character spit into a metal vase like container (called a spittoon) and it makes a ding sound, that for chewing tobacco
Almost none of the music is originally from this movie (Daryl Hannah's iconic whistling included) And many of the scenes are direct or indirect imitations, homages or references to movies Tarantino loves. He's a master of remix.
That scene at the conference table where Lucy cuts off dude's head -SERIOUS laugh-you-lose challenge for other dudes at the table
The soundtrack album is worth getting or streaming.
I will be referrring to a chain mace / meteor hammer as a "Scary Ball" in future.
I love that your cat plays the drums
Loving the channel.I’ve only discovered your channel.keep up the great work 👌
The lyric is "Honesty....is such a lonely word".
I can only think of two movies that have given me a viceral, in the stomach reaction. This was the first. It started when she cut Buck's Achilles, and continued through slaming the door on him.
“He films views and angles that we don’t usually see.”
[ QT zooms in on feet ]
The music is produced by RZA from Wu Tang Clan if memory serves. Original themes and established songs
Great reaction to this movie can’t wait for you to review vol. 2.
A lot of the music in this film is from American pop culture. I recognized the music from the 1960s --1970s tv show Ironsides as well as an old super heroes show called the Green Hornet, plus others.
Your reactions keep getting better Mary. I especially loved the part before the arm got chopped off of Sophie, when you realized she didn’t get killed off screen, and then your face when her arm came off.
Priceless.
Keep them coming.
There's a cool little backstory about that female band, The 5,6,7,8s that you should check out.Great reaction Mary, looking forward to the 2nd movie.
The song you were commenting about is actually a piece by George Zamfir, the king of the pan flute
23:00 I know a girl who was decapitated in that way. The top of her head was cut off from above her eyebrows.
She did not live long enough to say anything, like here. I'm pretty sure she was dead even before the decapitation was complete.
There’s a group locally that has movie screenings with comedy commentary (a la MST3000, if you’re familiar with that series) and I went to see this movie, oh so long ago. I remember that enjoyed it but I laughed so much more at your reactions!
Truly priceless, thank you for an amazing video to start my weekend.
16:07 - Her yellow jumpsuit is a nod to Bruce Lee’s similar outfit in GAME OF DEATH.
16:16 - The whole walk between the restroom and the main restaurant is one continuous shot.
16:49 - The only thing they bleeped out was the main character’s name.
23:15 - That water lever sound is a nod to the windwheel sound at the beginning of Sergio Leone’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. A lot of things in Tarantino are a nod to Sergio Leone films, especially THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY.
28:17 - Quentin Tarantino is like Stanley Kubrick, in that most of the music in their movies is chosen from pre-existing music rather than being composed for the film.
Speaking of Kubrick, you should watch 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.
Poor Mary, her blood pressure almost dropped from so much blood she saw in the movie HSHAHS
I just watched you struggle through the cartoon bloodshed so now I can’t wait to see how you handle the restaurant massacre!
Mari is precious and priceless, as are her reactions XD There have been so many golden moments all throughout this so far but, my god, when she the rest of the Crazy Eighty-Eight come in her ":O" and "CHEATER!" was fantastic! I feel so bad for her - Tarantino is definitely a taste and it's not for everyone. I will say, though, that the Kill Bill movies are far more palatable than most of his movies.
Watching Mary watch this movie reminds me of a scene from The Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are in a theater watching a violent movie:
Bart: (to Lisa) If you don't watch the violence, you'll never get desensitized to it.
Lisa: (covering her eyes) Just tell me when the scary part's over.
Bart: It's over.
(Lisa uncovers her eyes. The movie theater is bathed in red as the sound of blood spurting is heard; Lisa screams)
Except for his western "The Hateful Eight" Tarantino does not use original music but music he has heard before. He has said that he writes movies while listening to the music he will later use in the movie.
The Brides Actually Name Is Beatrice
"I need a hug." 😆 🤣 😂
Your reactions are genuine, always enjoyable. I would love for you to see more classics, before the 90s, you will be surprised.
4:32 I sing this same song every time I watch that scene. lol
Loved your reaction,as usual it was wonderful. Lots of hugs for you to hold it together.
That custom intro of yours was awesome!
WOW - serious props for taking this one on!
It's a masterwork of film, but it's really, really intense.
Kill Bill Vol 2 carries on, so cannot wait to see you cover that one!
When she's fighting Vernita, those strange audio beeps happened on my DVD too, so I had to exchange them at Target!! LOL!!!
very clever lol
I didn't know I needed to hear a song from the musical Chicago in a Tarantino film.😂
5:35 it’s usually chewing tobacco
Don't worry volume 2 is far less violent. It's almost a different movie. I love this movie not for the violence but like the art. The music, color, and camera angles. Great reaction. Great Great reaction. Thank u
Please watch the Tim Burton movie "Mars Attacks!"! It's packed with Stars!
Yes.... Iv been in the same thing
,, I've seen it ✨😏
Yes Mars Attacks and Big Fish please
Just remember, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. LOL It's such an over the top entertaining movie.
I saw that in theaters. Don't think it was very good...
a slight nod in recognition
O my... Now I have the Chicago soundtrack stuck in my brain 😅😂😘
This movie parts one and two have a strong east meets west theme. This first one has a strong eastern martial arts film vibe, the second half is more reminiscent of westerns.
The b&w fight wasn't done in color because the blood was going to give him a rating of R+17 {no one below 17was allowed in, even if accompanied by adult.n) Showing it in b&w kept it rated R.
Some of the music commands 60s Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. This movie is an eastern western, if you know what I mean.
Ahh Marijke, this is NO BRIDGERTON. This is Tarantino blood and gore at a level 12. With some amazing poignant gripping dialogue. After this visual experience you will need to hug Luna and Seal very tightly. Ha
people spit because sometimes your throat/nose generates mucus that you need to get rid of, and especially if it's in your throat/mouth you can't just "blow" it into a napkin like you do when blowing your nose (not to mention you don't always have a napkin)
The yellow jump-suit with the black stripes - in honour of Bruce Lee.
The drawn sequence is honouring Japanese movie art - Manga and such.
There are really great movies:
If you haven't watched "Alita - Battle Angle" or "Ghost in the Shell" you could start by watching the American versions of these movies.
Otherwise there are AMAZING original manga-movies like "Ninja Scroll", "Akira" or "Princess Mononoke" and sooooooo much more.
Yeah I call this movie Tarantino love letter to Asian cinema. And the man can write some damn good love letters if you ask me.
"So, Kill Bill is about trying to kill Bill?" Good grief Holmes, you've done it again!
Story. I went to see this with my gf at the time and another friend. The scene where she wakes up he for whatever reason busted out in full laughter
He says "Very good" when she orders warm sake. When I was in Japan people would only order sake warm if either it was bad sake or if it was bitterly cold. Cold sake is how you drink good sake. Or so I was told and it seemed to play out in my experiences.
The yellow and black motorcycle outfit may be a reference to the Bruce Lee movie "Game of Death".
Also notice the long continuous take in the club. You don't see many of those and this was well done especially with all the action in the scene.
5:30 They are using chewing tobacco. You're not suppose to swallow the juice.
"Juice"
And......great reaction! Thanks for doing this one!
The thing is that the splatter was so unrealistic that it is entertaining, i mean if it was realistic then i understand the aversion but this is so cartoony i love it.
