"One more thing, Sofie... is she aware her daughter is still alive?" BOOM! That's how you do a cliffhanger!! 😎 Fun Fact: Despite being bleeped out in the film, the name of The Bride (Uma Thurman) is revealed on her plane tickets. Batter-Up Fact: The shot where the Bride splits a baseball in two with a samurai sword was done for real on the set. It was done by Zoë Bell, Uma Thurman's stunt double. Boom! Head Shot! Fact: When Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo) was shooting the scene where she flings her ball and chain out, she accidentally hit Quentin Tarantino on the head as he stood by the camera. Casting Notes Fact: Quentin Tarantino originally intended to cast a Japanese actress to play O-Ren Ishii, but before casting began, he saw Lucy Liu's work in Shanghai Noon (2000) and immediately changed O-Ren into a Chinese-Japanese-American, so that Liu could play the part.
Interesting Fact: When O-Ren told The Bride she wouldn't last 5 minutes during the fight, if you pay attention to the time, it lasted exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds.
The yellow tracksuit Uma’s character “the Bride” wore in Tokyo was Tarantino’s homage to Bruce Lee who wore something similar, and the martial arts tricks to “kung fu” movie effects of an earlier time.
Dying like a samurai means meditating on death served to prepare a samurai to die a painful, violent, yet honorable death, to fight fearlessly, always facing the enemy.
I gotta say, now I've only seen two of your reactions thus far, but you're definitely one of the better at reacting. You talk the perfect amount, unlike so many others who overly talk. You're calm, warm, and inviting. And you just have a sweet personality. Also, your screen size for the movie - it's not too small, it's not cut off at the bottom. I'm going to be looking for more reactions on here that interest me, because I really like you as a reactor. Great job, dear! Hope to Kill Bill Vol II. Also, I'd like to recommend the Dark Knight Trilogy.
Really fun reaction! 20:05 "How do you move with Katanas?" One lesson is coming right up! 30:30 Quentin added the sound of bowling a strike into the scene.
27:52, if you go back to the scene showing her boarding pass for the flight to Japan, you can actually see the Bride's real name. I've seen this movie dozens of times over the last 20 years and didn't find this out this tidbit until this year.
I soooo get excited everytime i see someone in a kill bill costume theme during halloween..wether its the bride and her yellow bruce lee outfit , elle driver passing as a sexy nurse, vernita with her kaboom cereal box, japanese schoolgirl gogo or o'ren with her blood stained kimono...i can tell a milennial chap right away😂
O-Ren Ishii and The Bride respected each other, were once friends, so they gave each other a chance to recover after each cut. I believe O-Ren could have won after her first cut, but she wouldn't have felt it an honorable kill. You've already seen Vol 2, I just stumbled onto your channel and this is one of my favorite films so I had to watch, and just subscribed!
20:00, This sushi chef/swordmaster character Hattori Hanzi is played by martial arts movie great Sony Chiba. Quentin Tarantino is a big fan of Chiba since his days working in a video store. Chiba is actually referenced in the movie True Romance that Quentin Tarantino wrote. The Hanzo character is so iconic that there is an homage to him in the John Wick series - a sushi chef who is also an assassin.
It's not that you don't have sensation in your legs -- you feel everything. It's that your muscles have gotten so weak that they can't hold you up anymore. They have literally shrunk to little kid size. And you can't make them grow by growling at them. It takes months. It would have also affected her arms and her stomach muscles.
It's been said that all Quentin Tarantino movies take place in the same universe. For example, the cigarette brand Red Apple is prominent throughout his movies. John Travolta's character Vincent Vega is the brother of Mr. Blonde aka Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs. With that in mind Kill Bill is a blockbuster martial arts/anime film series that is playing at the local theatre in this shared universe. That's why this movie doesn't even attempt to stick to reality. It's a movie playing in a movie universe.
I have a theory that the guy that unalived Oren's father was Bill. And maybe she just didn't see his face. I mean he does have connections everywhere. The sword and the rings remind me of when he was on the phone conversation with Elle. Also, every time Bill is in screen western music plays. Western music started playing when they revealed Oren's dad's unaliver.
Random Fun Fact: Tarantion gave Viviva her own special "booty light" by basically having a light shined on her booty. According to Vivica, he said that since she was in the movie "Booty Call", she gets her own booty light...
Chapter 1 had a 2 in a circle because Vivica's character was the second name on her death list. At that point, she'd already killed O-Ren, as we see her crossed off on the list at number 1. Tarantino is a big fan of non-linear storytelling. 😉
32:58, they are flying because...anime. LOL Bill and one other person who hasn't been shown yet were the Bride's martial arts teachers. They were both masters of the deadly arts and she is their greatest student. At this point in her life, the Bride is practically the right hand of death itself. So mopping up these fools from the Crazy 88's is a bit of a workout but not impossible for her. Tarantino is a big fan of martial arts movies from the 1970's and 80's. The man she is fighting here is played by another martial arts movie great named Gordon Liu. Like Sonny Chiba who played Hattori Hanzo, Liu is someone whose movies Tarantino grew up watching. FYI , The yellow tracksuit the Bride is wearing is an homage to Bruce Lee from the movie Game of Death.
You asked wether or not you should watch vol. 2. Well being the fact that Tarantino wrote Kill Bill as one long story and it was to long to make one movie out of (it would have been a 4 hour long movie) so he broke it down into 2 volumes but is 1 movie. So if you don't watch vol. 2 then it would be like going to the theaters and watching like "Deadpool" and half way through it you got up and left and then you told everyone that you liked the first half of the movie. So yes watch vol.2.
Kill Bill 1 and 2 are not separate movies. Tarantino wanted to release them both as the same movie but the studio didn’t want him to release such a long movie so they split it in half.
The Tarantino feet comment made me laugh. 😂 Everyone that knows....they know. He loves feet. It seems like all kinds too because some of them ain't even pretty, but he loves them anyway.🤣
Some anime is like that. A lot isn't. I think the sequence in kill Bill is a high water mark. A 10 out of 10. Very little I've seen comes to mind that matches it. Blue Eye Samurai is top tier animation centered on women you don't mess with. The writing and animation are incredible. When my fiance and I finished it we started it again from the beginning. We've never done that before. And she doesn't even like anime, or samurai, or ancient Japan. It's just that good 😊
I'm hoping this is FINALLY the reaction where we end up NOT talking about Quentin Tarantino and feet. It's brought up every single fucking time anyone ever reacts to this movie, mother fuckers need to stop fetish-shaming. Plus it's not like any feet were shoe-horned in, the main thing is the "wiggle your big toe" part, but what the fuck else would the camera be focusing on? Anyway, looking forward to this reaction. And please for the love of GOD include the ending credits at the end of Kill Bill Vol. 2. They're the best credits I've ever seen, and that along with the music (and non-music in certain parts) is such a fantastic way to really make you realize the journey you've been through. So yeah, onto checking out the reaction.

Some of this is what anime is like. The animation style in this one is very unique, but it's certainly of that genre. Like any art medium though it goes in a lot of different directions. Most of them are based on manga though, and my two favorite manga are Berserk and One Piece. As an illustration of how different they can be One Piece's vibe is "YAAAAY! LET'S GO, GUYS! WOOHOO!" And Berserk's is more like "All I feel is pain and the world is full of horror and suffering, but I persevere all the same." It's all good stuff though.
