That voice a gift from God! Bono has managed to recapture almost all of his range from the early days with a hint of rasp at the top end. Like a fine cognac this band and Bono's voice have aged very well. Awesome!!
Best performance I have ever seen, as he sings toward the open air boats and ocean. No sound proofing just nature! Amazing! 'End it before we begin'....the most important verse of the song, sang once.

Agreed. I have one thing I need to say. Do not compare this band to The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, or other bands that have not broken up and will do a song or two at an awards show or benefit every couple of years. U2 has stayed together and relevant for 40 years and releasing new music continuously the whole time. This is true artistic greatness.

Same here way back to the early eighties. I can listen to any of their albums and it never gets old. I do however get sick of Bonos twisting politics and will take a break every once in a while.
Met him Bono and his wife back in 2007 at Dublin airport. He was off as usual to do some gig in foreign lands. He was queuing up at check-in like everyone else refusing VIP treatment. I put out my hand to shake his and he obliged. I told him it was pleasure to meet him and he said likewise! I said I don't want an autograph but wanted to tell him that his voice reminded me of a mature wine the older it got the better it tasted. He laughed and thanked me. They don't make em like that anymore.
What a fantastic privilege you had dear Francel. I wish I had met Bono too, when I lived in Dublin ( Eire), in 1999/2000. I know I will meet him someday! Bless you!

I've lived the legacy.. time to pass it one.. the look before and after the show was completely priceless.. not one second of regret!! Thank you boys.. priceless songs , faces and memories..
His voice has not gotten better, he can’t hit the notes he once did, doesn’t have the vocal control he once did, take aStay for example, the song was just breathtaking live in 1993, now he can barely sing it.
Beautiful, I've been a fan since 1983 and grown up with this band. Born and bred Irish and so happy that I can say I've also grown with the band. Bonos vocals have got such control. Wow and wow again sir.
Gold star to the audio engineers here. Absolutely stunning sound. And for U2, honestly one of the best renditions of this song. I certainly would have been mesmerized. (e.g. not looking at my phone)
That’s soo touching. Bono and the band make every their fan feel something special while listening. Everyone who listen this song understand it in ones own way. It is so deep and so simple, every word goes down deep into soul. And , yes I couldn’t stop my tears during listening this live version. U2 is so unique, I even can’t describe their uniqueness with my own words. Bono and the band give us a lot. They give us the meaning of so important things as love, hope, kindness, optimism, light etc. I am so thankful to you , guys, be blessed for you to go your way best. With Love.
Wow Bono's Technique and pitch control is amazing at almost 60! He Has So much power! His voice has been getting better and better lately. he is getting his iconic voice back that he was known for in the 80's as far as i can tell from this video! if you listen to his technique, its much like the technique he used in 84-86. ive alwayed loved his beautiful voice and im very happy he is singing with so much soul and passion again.
Jake Taylor I agree.....his voice has suffered over the years, starting from the mid 90s in my opinion. I was suprised how strong he sounded here...when he nails it...he nails it and he is up there with the greatest.
I was listening for any after concert pitch touch-ups to the vocals, and I didn't really hear anything. He really does sound incredible here, just like rattle and hum
Ive been listening to U2 since 6th grade on my tape player back in 89' and to see this video 34years later is magical, by far best version of this song. beyond that is this most special occasion for this most lucky person to have done at their house im still trying to figure out how on earth was so lucky/fortunate!, but that to hear his voice and passion put into his song after all these years to hear his soul attaining an artistic musical level beyond measure is truly wonderful thing to witness..to think of all the people's lives they have influenced in such good ways in all these years, its truly so inspiring to me and unbelievable recording of this song and to be so lucky to have witnessed this im sure! Only saw them once in my life at the Tacoma Dome during the all you cant leave behind tour when album first came out like 99' or 2000.
I absolutely love the song! It always gives me goosebumps and puts me in a reflective mood. It's a timeless classic that I never get tired of listening to.
Just speechless, met him as a teen, saw them a number of times....just with the past year oh my...tears- in a good way..so raw and cathartic - thank you for sharing that God given voice, the rawness and beauty - true art transforms phew - still has that voice that grabbed me in 1980 wow
This song is timeless, it has healing powers, every time I listen to it, I am astonished by the depth of its lyrics. Rumi’s words or any other great poet’s words has such impact. U2, a True blessing, they have, they do and they will keep on healing the world, cause their music is beyond time and space
True. You are right. Listening to the lyrics I was also immediately thinking about a very wise man and teacher for many people Willigis Jäger. He knew Rumi's work very well and himself he wrote many books and one title is the wave is the ocean. Worth reading it !!! Love it. Thank you Willigis .R.I.P. Love U2. Thank you for making the world community happy with your work.
This song always brings tears to my eyes. When this album was released, my daughter and I were at the height of our relationship. I’ve been separated from her mom for almost 3 years now and I still get to see her but she has no idea how much I love her and we both still listen to this song a lot without being in each others presence. 😢
One of the most pure and powerful performances you’ll see. Bono has always had it, and that power grows by the year. History unfolding and we are grateful to witness it.
Edge is such a great musician I’ve always been a huge fan of his and as a guitar player I like to watch what chords he’s come up with. He’s a very relaxed and focused guy. Thanks for the tune!
Wow just wow! This man's singing voice is beyond great. Why I have not heard this song is beyond me. Thank you Bono you are never a dissipointment and always a pleasure to listen too and much love to the band, they are fenominal!
Lyrics: Every breaking wave on the shore Tells the next one there'll be one more And every gambler knows that to lose Is what you're really there for Summer I was fearlessness Now I speak into an answer phone Like every fallen leaf on the breeze Winter wouldn't leave it alone, alone If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave Every sailor knows that the sea Is a friend made enemy And every shipwrecked soul knows what it is To live without intimacy I thought I heard the captain's voice But it's hard to listen while you preach Like every broken wave on the shore This is as far as I could reach If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave The sea knows where are the rocks And drowning is no sin You know where my heart is The same place that yours has been We know that we fear to win And so we end before we begin Before we begin If you go If you go your way and I go mine Are we so Are we so helpless against the tide? Baby, every dog on the street Knows that we're in love with defeat Are we ready to be swept off our feet And stop chasing every breaking wave
That's what I love about U2: after all these years in the show business, they're still able to show up in a street alley, in a store, in the metro With Fallon, on a porch and play to the people. Right there. No stage. Just a simple show. I love that.

Great story. Way to pay it forward.
I don’t know what I would have done without this band in my life...you all will never see this but thank you.
No my friend me, i Just sa you're comentary .and i can asure you i completly agree with you, music is my only weapon, peace is in my soul
I love every breaking save particularly. 640. 😮
This is LIVE!?!? Far out. Not many artists can do this. Amazing
It was actually up close and personal...
Anzjuli Venter There is a reason why they are the best live band since 40 years now......haha
See Jimmy Fallon U2 Ordinary Love
Bono (U2) is one of the best in absolut..
The greatest singer of the last four generations. All due respect to Freddie.
The greatest singer and band ever!!
its true one of my best favorite frontmen.....
I second that bro 👍😁
I am a huge U2fan and love Bono, but don't think we can compare with Freddie, two different and great artists indeed.
Well thats a bold statement 😳
There are singers whose sound is good on records, but U2 is the kind of singer whose sound is impeccable on live performance.
They're truly amazing!
Often he sounds better live
His voice just gets better, he sounds amazing!
I agree ... very spot on !
Can't deny that. His voice was always amazing but it has gotten better over the years.
❤️
Yes it does and the rest of the guys are getting better and better all the time.
His voice has not gotten better, he can’t hit the notes he once did, doesn’t have the vocal control he once did, take aStay for example, the song was just breathtaking live in 1993, now he can barely sing it.
Biggest show? Check.
Smallest show? Check.
U2 are the best at everything. Because? Greatness.
Why? *
i love when min 3:14 bono looks edge waiting for the entrance with a hand signal, they understood so good each other, its amazing.
Real talent and music!
Beautiful, I've been a fan since 1983 and grown up with this band. Born and bred Irish and so happy that I can say I've also grown with the band. Bonos vocals have got such control. Wow and wow again sir.
M
His vocal range is still stunning♥️
Essa linda canção me faz lembrar da minha mãe sempre ouvia quando ela estava viva..mae descanse em paz te amarei alem da vida
Been listening to U2 since 1987, the year I graduated, The Joshua Tree, and they are still U2. These guys just get better through the years.
Kevin Davis I got into them with Unforgettable Fire and I agree with you totally
1977 .... from Dublin
1984 from Co Clare ✌️ & ♥😁 😂 😂 😁
1983 from Italy💕Bono...my life!
They started in 1976
This Song Is Timeless and Written From The Heart ❤.
sent from over there in 🏴 somewhere ⚽️🇬🇧🎵 ✊️
Just an incredible version of this song. Haunting, gives me chills
With Love.
Beautiful Performance!❤
Jake Taylor true
I was listening for any after concert pitch touch-ups to the vocals, and I didn't really hear anything. He really does sound incredible here, just like rattle and hum
Jake Taylor GREAT VOICE Amazing voice!!! 100% Amazing! 💟🌟💟
why can he not bring this voice to his classic New Years Day with the beginning scream
Master piece. Master voice
Chef d'oeuvre❤
Nothing is even remotely comparable !!! Thank you Bono..!
Mate, love your comment. Ive been in love with the band since 81. Stay real buddy!
One of my favourite videos on UA-cam.
Love their newer stuff as much as the older more popular songs. Edge’s piano and Bono’s fantastic voice on that melody 💥
I absolutely love the song! It always gives me goosebumps and puts me in a reflective mood. It's a timeless classic that I never get tired of listening to.
Just speechless, met him as a teen, saw them a number of times....just with the past year oh my...tears- in a good way..so raw and cathartic - thank you for sharing that God given voice, the rawness and beauty - true art transforms phew - still has that voice that grabbed me in 1980 wow
miss my sister- she has a TBI and I can no longer get through. praying Jesus heals her
This is amazing! The best song and the best musicians ever!
I’m Teresa a 70 year old widow. Love your music.
Hello teresa 🎉🎉
After finishing Surrender found this now - a full heart
His voice in this song is just amazing. Gives me the chills. I LOVE this song.
Pure talent 👏
@@audacyapp no doubt. GIves me the goosies.
One of the most pure and powerful performances you’ll see. Bono has always had it, and that power grows by the year. History unfolding and we are grateful to witness it.
This song is every bit as stunning as 'Stay'...Gorgeous poetic masterpiece
Pierces the soul . Another U2 masterpiece. Music with soul and substance as always from this legendary once in a lifetime band.
I've been following u2 since '77, so wonderful! Each week I have a new favorite song! But this is my favorite video!
What's your all time favorite? I love Sunday Bloody Sunday...depends on mood though
My soul is thankful for U2
So good, it made me cry
Great music can have that effect on you
Magnífico bono!!!
Edge is such a great musician I’ve always been a huge fan of his and as a guitar player I like to watch what chords he’s come up with. He’s a very relaxed and focused guy. Thanks for the tune!
Every single week I listen to this
Oh my God this band was put on this earth to make my life heaven. 😃😇
Just Awesome.
this band was putted by God straithly to teach us how incredible is his power!

Lyrics:
Every breaking wave on the shore
Tells the next one there'll be one more
And every gambler knows that to lose
Is what you're really there for
Summer I was fearlessness
Now I speak into an answer phone
Like every fallen leaf on the breeze
Winter wouldn't leave it alone, alone
If you go
If you go your way and I go mine
Are we so
Are we so helpless against the tide?
Baby, every dog on the street
Knows that we're in love with defeat
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave
Every sailor knows that the sea
Is a friend made enemy
And every shipwrecked soul knows what it is
To live without intimacy
I thought I heard the captain's voice
But it's hard to listen while you preach
Like every broken wave on the shore
This is as far as I could reach
If you go
If you go your way and I go mine
Are we so
Are we so helpless against the tide?
Baby, every dog on the street
Knows that we're in love with defeat
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave
The sea knows where are the rocks
And drowning is no sin
You know where my heart is
The same place that yours has been
We know that we fear to win
And so we end before we begin
Before we begin
If you go
If you go your way and I go mine
Are we so
Are we so helpless against the tide?
Baby, every dog on the street
Knows that we're in love with defeat
Are we ready to be swept off our feet
And stop chasing every breaking wave
❤❤❤
Bono’s voice magnificent ❤

UNBELIEVABLE AWESOME!!! There are no words that describe this voice!!! I have never heard anything that great. Nobody even comes close.
That's what I love about U2: after all these years in the show business, they're still able to show up in a street alley, in a store, in the metro With Fallon, on a porch and play to the people. Right there. No stage. Just a simple show. I love that.
gahan101 i agree, my respect. I hope they will never dissapear from world.
Perfect comment.
I pray Dolores may forever rest in peace. Thank you fair lass for helping us all to remember PEACE in Ireland! ❤❤❤
