@ I think he's "better looking" (I don't like it) in NT. He was skinnier and his eyes were more noticeable in the OVA. I blame the Kuroko no Basket character designs.
Sorry for not reading the novel yet, cannot find it in bookstores anymore in my country. So he is supposed to be ugly in the novel ? That's interesting. I thought he is just a little bit older and gloomy.
I've always felt for Oberstein, because it's easy to infer that he faced a lot of discrimination in his life up 'til meeting Reinhard. It's easy to see how someone can become so cold in a society that doesn't even want them to exist. The Genetic Exclusion Act may no longer be in effect, but at this point in the Empire the person responsible for it was still being lauded as a hero and founding father. Even someone as kindhearted as Kircheis is put off by him. I've always wondered if it was just because he seems shifty, or a combination of that and his handicap. Imagine how many times someone has asked Oberstein if he sustained a battle wound, a more "polite" way to call attention to his condition and even give him an out from admitting to having a genetic problem. I find it admirable that he owns up to his disability, even in such a hostile culture. He doesn't make a whole thing about it, but at the same time he wants people to know that he's here and he's not going anywhere. It's impressive that he even reached the position he had previously held at Iserlohn, considering he likely would have faced discrimination in being promoted. I think a big part of why so many Empire characters hate Oberstein is because in the back of their minds they think he shouldn't exist. I'm sure he realizes that. It's ironic that a person who Rudolf would have considered inferior helps to usher in an Imperial golden age.
I really like your analysis! I felt for Oberstein, too. Although I think despite the discrimination part, people just don’t appreciate others being overly rational or critical, because it’s against human nature and societal customs. I remembered Mittermeier once questioned why Oberstein saught to change things that worked well, that was the typical expression of such mentality.
@@javierlopez9789 OVA series, 110 episodes, aired from 1988 to 1997, best show I have ever seen. It's dialogue heavey and demands attention for details, but it all pays of. Die Neue These is decent, but it skips over many parts and has much more simple dialogue. It is made for wider public. On the other hand, OVA is series that not everyone can enjoy. @@billsykes2977 does Reinhard has more appearances in the ova series? I like Yang but sometimes i find his laid back attitude a little boring and the anime is centered mostly on him.
@@javierlopez9789 Yes, Reinhard has more screen time. Both, Reinhard and Yang were better in OVA. Reainhard wasn't like vilain and Yang was much more interesting and funnier. You'll love OVA Yang.
Or Abbachio from JJBA, since both of them have no combative abilities whatsoever (Abbachio's Stand ability is to rewind past events; Oberstein comes up with a (questionable) plan to win battles, but is useless in commanding a fleet of starships).
Actually, i wonder why Oberstein did not advice Reinhard to marry Rudolf's dynasty member( i remember there were some princesses) so Reinhard could legitimate his power.
@@Adil_Turysbek_TVRC nah, both Elizabeth and Isabelle belong to rebellious clan that lost, basically lost all of their prestige and shit. Instead, his son, Alexander Siegfried should marry the former Kaiserin instead.
He looks like a nice guy, I don't see him nuking a planet or anything
hahA
lol to be fair, he didn't.
Так он и есть симпатичный парень. Умный и тактичный.
In the book, rinhardt is the one who did the nuking
Circle's Hideout In the OVA he also did the nuking. Oberstein was just the one who suggested it.
Funny thing is, is that Oberstein looks like how he's described in the original light novels.
Exactly, the novel made him appear very unsightly, the OVA’s interpretation made him slightly good looking with that middle parted hair.

Not really. The red and white hair was clearly described in the novel
They’re not light novels, they’re serious novels.
Oberstein, the man who never seems to be loyal, but always was
Everyone suspected him for everything but everything he did was for the good of Reinhard's rule, up to his sacrifice.
I love how you can see even that small polite grin is an effort
He drops it the literal second that he turns away from them
Looks like Levi Ackerman took a break from fighting Titans and travelled to space...
And grew a foot taller 😁

So Oberstein was the original Levi? Ironically, he shares his dub voice actor with Erwin.
i thought the same as well uwu
Gwen R that,s what i was gonna say i thinked of that so many time
Good this voice for him isn't too bad, was worried. Not as good as the old series, but still good.
The voice is okay, but what's with the hair color and all the bland faces.
Fighting Type Gym Leader Michael Vick no voice actor can touch shiozawa kaneto’s voice
It’s fucking michiru lol. Kaiki is everywhere
only Oberstein's voice is similar to old series
To be fair, Kaneto Shiozawa has pretty big boots to fill. He was one of the VA greats.

I wonder if you'd tell Batman and Oberstein a joke at the same time, who would end cracking up first
Oberstein, if you kill him.
The universe would be cracking up first!
Batman. Oberstein is not even human.

After watching until season 4, this is the only moment I ever saw Oberstein smiling
I love how he's voiced by the same guy who voiced Archer in F:SN. You couldn't find a more appropriate voice for such a character if you tried.
What I like about this remake is their uniforms are more creative and attractive. But, I prefer their old hairstyles.
Omg finally someone who agrees on the hairstyles
Oberstian here is Levi with extra tallness
While the hair is a bit off-putting, Oberstein having Archer's voice more than compensates.

More like grinning. He's smiling slightly in this scene in the OVA too.
Oberstein = Levi after rumbling's case fix his eyes into synthetic and training harder into tall
A walking enigma indeed! :D
Lol Paul has used too much of a hair wax for his fancy hairstyle.
Oberstein got the Reuental hairstyle, and vice verse
Levi Ackermann, is that you?
Thank god I'm not the only one here who think he looks like Levi.
