Always enjoy your reviews. I bought one of the first 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige models back in November 2021, based on the overwhelming positive reviews and awards, and a test drive sealed the deal. Had the eGV70 been out I would have passed, to me EV's are certainly the future, but early adapters are paying a price premium and today's EV's will rapidly become obsolete to changing battery technology, and there's nowhere near enough charging stations "yet". I am a Genesis convert, love my ICE GV70, but I'll wait a generation before going EV.
I think it’s a beautiful car. The exterior looks impressive and that interior is gorgeous especially in that color. Yes this vehicle is expensive but it looks it too. Genesis has hit another home run!
Obviously a stunning machine, Genesis is really stepping it up as far as design! But, 236 miles of range for $70k is unacceptable. I drive an EV with under 300 miles of range, which works great for me. But, if I’m paying over $70k, range would have to be much better. Genesis needs to work this out. Yes, I know smaller wheels will improve efficiency, but the weight alone is justification for a larger battery. I’m a big fan Motoman! Thank you for the amazing content!
I’ve had my eGV70 in green on 19s for a week or so now - love it! The only really odd thing I’ve found is that, regardless of which drive mode it’s in, it shimmies fore-aft, for a second or so, after you come to a full halt, even a very gentle one. Not a major issue, but odd…
I think the greyscale color palette will expand after ramp up in Alabama. Speaking of which, Made in USA means GV70 EV qualifies for at least half of the Federal Credit.
Forgot to mention that the limited paint offering is both a positive and a negative. Positive in that Hyundai Group literally changes the quality of the paint and clearcoat as the Genesis model goes down the same line as the Hyundai product. So yes, a higher quality finish from the same factory. Bad news? It limits the colors on offer.
Exactly the question I was going to ask! I know the iPace has slower charging speeds and does not have some of the newer tech, such as vehicle to load but IMO the Jaguar looks amazing inside and out and is a fantastic car to drive. I have yet to drive the electrified gv70 but am curious which is worth the 70k.
Great question! You can see my overall thoughts on the i-Pace here (ua-cam.com/video/RHcPSBDPQPQ/v-deo.html) but in short, the GV 70 is the FAR better car to drive. Why? Because as stated in the episode, the Genesis has a personality. It does feel like a random EV - which as good as the Jaguar is, that is what you get in terms of drivability. More subjective, I MUCH prefer the design of the Genesis and the interior is light years ahead of the Jaguar. All this said, they both suffer from unacceptable range for their price. BMW has proven that one can have both range and driving dynamics in this size and price of vehicle.
Thanks. I already watched your review of the iPace - that’s why I thought it would be good to get your perspective. My wife loves the Jaguar because of the brand, and we both love the design (important consideration: we rescue dogs, and the iPace’s tailgate is 4-5 inches lower than most small SUVs to allow older dogs to hop up in the back more easily). We will need to drive the Genesis before she makes her final decision.
I agree and have said the same thing about the limited color choices. Why not make the Electrified color choices the same as the gas powered models? I would've loved to have a red exterior with the Aquamarine Blue leather interior. I'm sure they'll start that next year when I've already had mine for a year.
The reason they have limited colors they claim is that the Alabama factory is a shared existing factory with Hyundai that now builds both. Genesis uses different higher quality paint and they wanted to master a limited amount of colors first before moving on with the full color spectrum. Maybe in a year they will expand color choices.
Great product but dealer adjustments are going to be the achilles’ heel. On average the GV70 has twenty seven percent mark up and this electrified will be subject to the same game. Lots are filling up but it’ll take many more painful months until reality is reflected in the price. Besides, batteries don’t cost twenty grand in MSRP and the country of origin will not stand the test of time in light of the tax credit conditions. Said another way…this is the best SUV on offer, Genesis knows it and unless your significant other owns the dealership; you will pay dearly the cost of admission. 🤷🏻 10:44
Hi Gary! The mark ups are *quickly* subsiding with the exception of cars that normally are subject to them (i.e. - low volume, special product). Already seeing this impact some of the Korean brands.
I was looking a gas gv70 here in NC with no markup. I’ve held off. Was also looking at Tesla but really want a normal car. Tesla’s are only 50k now. Tough choices
The fact that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis makes you set off in "I have fake transmission creep because I want to pretend I have a torque converter" mode until you're driving fast enough to enable the 1 pedal mode is a dealbreaker for me. Why can't you just set that as the default? Why doesn't it occur to any EV makers that there are customers who refuse to drive anything but a stick shift who may want to feel something from an EV that is different than an automatic gas car?
The only thing in the international I don't like is the dash setup. That horizontal look of where the controls are just reminds me too much of 80's 90' Buick....looks like a grandpa car. I think a more vertical look is more youthful.
Genesis has become a genuine luxury brand without the luxury price…but they are starting to breach the pricey category. EVs have become out of reach for most people…not many can afford $1000+ per month to finance or lease one of these. I guess the Prius would be the entry level affordable EV, but once you get into a lot of the SUV EVs you’re talking about unattainable vehicles for most people.
Cmon man. For $70K, you need to have the retractable handle that's flushed to the car, like the EV6. You also need to tuck the rear wipers above the spoiler and not have it on the glass below. Otherwise, a great car.

I noticed all the cars at The Thompson Hotel in Buckhead area of Atlanta maybe a week or two ago.
That was us!
Is it silly to say that the design is slightly less attractive without the big circle exhaust exits? 😅

"I would argue that this Genesis GV70 looks old now" 😫
How do you compare it to the iPace? Similar pricing, similar range, similar size; I’l appreciate hearing your perspective on both.

236… in a perfect universe. Unacceptable for the money-

How do you rate this to the RZ450e?
Are the shiny paddle shifter used for break re-gen or what?
Yes!

I’m not a fan of fake grills on an EV. If they do that, why not put a fake exhaust pipe, and add fake engine noise (Dodge “Fartzonic”)?
