To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.

15:30 Just last week I got some specks of dust inside my M1 Macbook Pro's screen. I was pretty upset about it. Decided to start a chat with Apple to see what my options were. The guy suggested I ship my Macbook off to them to inspect for me. He sent me a box with prepaid return shipping. I dropped the box off on Wednesday afternoon. Got an e-mail early Thursday letting me know that Apple had received my Macbook. Got my Macbook back the very next day on Friday. They replaced the screen for me, dropped in a new battery, replaced my keyboard, and replaced part of the aluminum case. All covered under warranty. I didn't pay a dime for anything. And I'm still blown away that all this happened in just 2 days! I f'ing LOVE Apple.

It's kinda funny cuz I've always thought that Abyss makes some of the ugliest looking headphones of all times especially the AB-1266. the . And the Apple headphones are imo one of the most aesthetically pleasing headphones I've seen recently. That being said, I'd be willing to bet that anything in the Abyss lineup would eat Apple's lunch when it comes to audio quality. (The thing that matters most in a headphone.) Comfort being the 2nd.
@@collodionpositive554 yeah, comfort is always #1, with sound quality a close second. This why the airpods Pro's for example are considered better than the Sony ANC earbuds, while they sound worse, they're much more comfortable and actually stay in your ear
Be sure to try the custom audio setup in settings>accessibility>audio/visual>headphone accommodations. It’s a hidden feature. Helped the sound on my Powerbeats Pro a good bit. Going to try on my AirPods Pro also.

Very good! I like the way you guys immediately notice the design features and drawbacks. That only comes with experience. Good point about the usage as well. I tend to only use over the ear noise cancelling headphones on a flight but Apple neglected to include the cable (it's another $35 or so) which is most useful if you want to watch the built-in tv on the plane. Many thanks.
when they said there is a wire running into the headband, the entire headband itself transfers power from one cup to the other via a terminal connector and brush system. There isn't any "wires" the headband is an adjustable length wire itself.
Its really interesting how fast you picked apart all of the 20 minute reviewers videos where the build takes up like 10 minutes but you guys picked it apart in less than 5
Forgot about “spacial audio” mode.. would be interesting to have your thoughts on that. Not from a high fidelity level, but a technological output. It’s some what impressive on the AirPods Pro.
Yeah i found him interesting as well. His word choices were very detailed and something you don’t hear often now a days. Everyone is lazy to articulate now a days.
These guys needed to try spacial sound. What a miss. That technology is what makes the Apple AirPod pros and the Max special. It’s the software. I think that would surprise them, it’s a really amazing feature.
Watched this review with my AirPods max lol I’m not a full blown audiophile but am fairly particular about height quality sound. The sound quality is really good, but I was honestly hoping for more here. However I think the Bluetooth is the limiting factor. I can say that they sound substantially better than the Sony xm4’s
Thumbed up, but desperately want to know more about sound quality from people of your audio stature. Everything else, design, engineering, practicality was fascinating to watch. Thanks for uploading!
Interesting group…guy on right seems like a former design engineer turned manufacturing engineer because he is looking at the product from every angle cradle to grave, guy in back the experienced one that mostly only knows how to verbalize the aspects that need improvement(which actually says a lot about the product when he’s not able to find many points for improvement), and guy on the left that is probably an electrical engineer because he seems nervous af to be around people and smiles non stop like he’s high af.
I dont believe that shell is fully machined, it would be cast, machined & polished off afterwards before anodizing I think it would be a lot more economical to do that way as well.
AirPodsMax are stylish, elegant, and beautiful. The sound is very good. The Spatial Sound is cool. Would appreciate more ability to fine tune within Spatial Sound; and easy switching between Stereo and Spatial. These Pods work well with Bose and JBL speakers. However, the stainless steel construction rather than titanium makes them heavy on the head. The cheap looking netted headband that looks worse over time has no cushioning and is uncomfortable and headachy for some. Suggest using bubble wrap to cushion the band if discomfort is an issue. For the hefty price, Apple could have done much better in terms of user comfort. I do not plan to upgrade due to the head band issue. Discerning audiophiles like the option to cord connect to speakers. Thankfully, Apple has a cord that you can buy separately that can connect these Pods by Jack or Aux port to Studio type speakers. You may need an adapter. Other great studio type headphones with incredible sound used by audiophiles, studio techs, and musicians are made in Germany and Italy. A few are cheaper than Apple with comfortable head bands. If you are invested in the Apple universe, and have compatible speakers, then buy these. Everyone should have more than 1 pair of headphones.
Apparently not for people who use headphones daily cause you'd need to go through charge-hell to keep it charged just to use it, cause you can't even use it passively like a normal piece of a/v equipment.
Air pods max for gaming I have seen basically stick on mic that has a usb adaptation to the Xbox and is wireless also give the maxes another uses besides traveling Thoughts, because then good gaming headsets are 300 to 400 the maxes can be found now for 50 to 100 dollars less
A good ‘*chip on the shoulder’ review from “the three…xxxxxx” (you decide) For me, it’s ‘*mengineers’… *chip… barely touched on the H1…, is what is needed to delve into modern digital advancements such as spatial audio, machine learning as it pertains to sound as a parallel, evolved the photography & film industry. Seems to me
premium build, which shouts APPLE the weight is abit higher than expected, but it is so well distributed, that I cannot complain I love spatial audio and instrument separation while using them my main complain(s): 1. case 2. not really portable. I mean that I don't feel comfortable carrying it around. I use them at home only
So smart of you guys to do this video. Many apple people will visit and learn about Abyss in the process. Would love to see more videos like this. Can you do a deep dive into the sound quality.
i had a problem with them hitting at the bottom, but its hitting the same material. the question is, is the material strong enough to scratch itself? Now thats a good question
I'll take plasticky feel in exchange for a decent driver and actual good tuning every time. My reaction after using a pair of these for about an hour (admittedly very short) bouncing around to various genres was just an eyebrow raise. Sure, it feels premium, but my KPH30i's sound better...for 20 bucks. There's a cable, they're made of plastic, and they're also semi-open on ears. I could say my AKG K361's also sound a lot better...for 1/5th the price. Again, that's wired, I didn't even want to give the BT ones a chance. If we're going strictly wireless, then a pair of Drop Pandas were better, definitely with EQ... That's not entirely fair since EQ is impossible to do on an iPhone at the OS level (unless there's a jailbreak option, haven't checked cydia or other jailbroken app platforms out in years). Worth pointing out, the early ones had build quality problems with all kinds of failures/bugs popping up. Most of the people I've seen having these problems get back "Go to an Apple Store" when asking Apple. That may be hundreds of miles or further for a lot of people; not really practical. KOSS has a better warranty on their 20-30 plastic headphones designed to be used hard than Apple on 500+ headphones apparently.
Now its clear from these reliable engineers buying Airpods max is worth the price…I get rid some of my competing known brand headphones and bought this headphone without regret and have peace of mind….much enjoying and looking forward to upgrade the incoming max….thank you so much such excellent reviews guys!❤❤❤
It probably depends on what part of the headphone you contribute. And that would align with the fact that they have 3 engineers talking. There is sound engineering, probably mostly derived from mechanical engineering with specialization in vibrations and acoustics to adjust shapes and sizes of components to tune the oscilation and sound wave interferences and such. Electrical engineering that deals with the powering, build of the coils and their specs, and the other things like batteries and such, if applicable. And mechanical enginnering specialized in manufacturing, where you figure out how to actually build the parts, how to integrate the parts with each other, test their strength and durability, manufacturing tolerances (deviation from design sizes that are acceptable for the final product). Not sure about thus, but this is my best guess.
it would really interesting that you guys reverse engeiner or see how you could make better the idea of Ath Dsr7bt and Dsr9bt from Audio Technica. They are 2017 models that have been stop from production. The thing though is the technology they use is unique and no other compagnies tried similar pure digital structure. it was a partnership with dnote but it didnt work like they expected and abandoned the idea...
it is true what they say though from ther prospective its a very well engineered device, the price tag didnt' shock them because most headphones at this level details woudl be priced about that, its not for the regular consumer its for someone that wants to pay for something luxuary, They did with with Apple watch when it first came out. Apples first Gen products usually are over engineered with nothing held back then they start to redesign cheaper products but they try to give people something that WOW''s the market that stands out, and Airpods max really does stand out people will remember them.

They are a bit heavy, but normally that focus goes away shorty after putting them on and listening to the awesome sound that they produce.
This is what I imagine the inside of DMS's head sounds like
Great video!

Just last week I got some specks of dust inside my M1 Macbook Pro's screen.
The Digital Crown button on the top will further increase the volume while you’re connected to your Mac. That’s why it sounds low ..
Not a word on sound quality? Okay.
They probably don't want to say anything negative in case Apple blacklists someone.
@@zahidibk You're right! I was kind of joking around anyway, but yeah...
Conflict of Interest
At a 550 range dont expect the sound to be bad.
They’re hardware engineers I think... So, they mainly talk abt the design and stuff
You may have had the level limiting activated. Unrestrained they can play very loud. Also, if you stream from Apple Music, you can use all the "canned" EQ presents in Music Settings. Charming review.
Very clever and creative
idea to have audio engineers giving their first impressions.
Hi guys! Came back to thank you for that video. I watched it before I bought Max. And it's my most enjoyable purchase for few years. Thank a lot for what you doing!
There’s actually no wire running through the headband. They pass electrical signals through the solid steel.
I would say comfort, features then sound being most important in a consumer headphones
@@collodionpositive554 yeah, comfort is always #1, with sound quality a close second. This why the airpods Pro's for example are considered better than the Sony ANC earbuds, while they sound worse, they're much more comfortable and actually stay in your ear
Yes sound being #1 most important factor in a headphone.
Be sure to try the custom audio setup in settings>accessibility>audio/visual>headphone accommodations. It’s a hidden feature. Helped the sound on my Powerbeats Pro a good bit. Going to try on my AirPods Pro also.
Adds all this white noise to the signal. I used it for a day and had to switch back.
Balanced first thoughts approach is interesting. Very easy to automatically talk crap about 'competition' but these guys haven't done that, so kudos to them all 👍🏻
Probably don't even consider these competition, completely different customer bases.
The most intelligent conversation and feedback I’ve heard about these. Love it!
We need more reviews like this on the internet!
at wired time Bluetooth on / off
does *airpods max* microphone works??
please reply...
when they said there is a wire running into the headband, the entire headband itself transfers power from one cup to the other via a terminal connector and brush system. There isn't any "wires" the headband is an adjustable length wire itself.
Its really interesting how fast you picked apart all of the 20 minute reviewers videos where the build takes up like 10 minutes but you guys picked it apart in less than 5
I didn't know that Douglas is DMS' Name.. 😁
It's like watching Rain Man x3 talk about headphones.
It's definitely wet
Forgot about “spacial audio” mode.. would be interesting to have your thoughts on that. Not from a high fidelity level, but a technological output. It’s some what impressive on the AirPods Pro.
binaural audio can be reproduced with any headphones :)
I need to know who the guy with glasses is... and im also hopping that he has a podcast or something.
Yeah i found him interesting as well. His word choices were very detailed and something you don’t hear often now a days. Everyone is lazy to articulate now a days.
These guys needed to try spacial sound. What a miss. That technology is what makes the Apple
AirPod pros and the Max special. It’s the software. I think that would surprise them, it’s a really amazing feature.
You should make a wireless AB-1266 with a WA33 that you wear on your back
Watched this review with my AirPods max lol I’m not a full blown audiophile but am fairly particular about height quality sound. The sound quality is really good, but I was honestly hoping for more here. However I think the Bluetooth is the limiting factor. I can say that they sound substantially better than the Sony xm4’s
But louder? Changing the sound in accessibility make a difference!? Thanks
I just picked up a pair of these and I love them.
Ya didn’t talk about the spatialization or the gyroscopes built in!
it's actually fascinating how intelligently they speak about all of this. awesome video!
when first question the guy said the ear cup can be installed upside down, I know the guy is the real deal. Real inspector.
One thing is for sure, this will be the most watched video of yours :)
Apple should triple the AirPods Max weight, add a silver $2,000 cable and offer the package as an Abyss 1266 companion at $4,999
Love these guys take. Meanwhile the crew at iFixit are like “when will we be taking apart next year’s AirPods Max Pro.”
Thumbed up, but desperately want to know more about sound quality from people of your audio stature. Everything else, design, engineering, practicality was fascinating to watch. Thanks for uploading!
Such a down to earth conversation! I really enjoyed it!
Got mine today and they are AWESOME!!!!!!
A little surprised they didn't discuss or consider features like spatial audio.... I would have liked to hear their opinion.
I dont believe that shell is fully machined, it would be cast, machined & polished off afterwards before anodizing I think it would be a lot more economical to do that way as well.
4:30 "nice screws" hahahah I love watching engineers' brains work
AirPodsMax are stylish, elegant, and beautiful.
Wonder what they think about the 3D audio, Dolby Atmos, Lossless Audio and head tracking
Apparently not for people who use headphones daily cause you'd need to go through charge-hell to keep it charged just to use it, cause you can't even use it passively like a normal piece of a/v equipment.
Air pods max for gaming
I have seen basically stick on mic that has a usb adaptation to the Xbox and is wireless also give the maxes another uses besides traveling
Thoughts, because then good gaming headsets are 300 to 400 the maxes can be found now for 50 to 100 dollars less
Really refreshing feedbacks and comments from a perspective that's not heard much about, fantastic : )
Seems to me
Could you do a teardown of these and analyze further the construction?
The kind of video you don’t know you need but you actually need. Loved watching this video
premium build, which shouts APPLE
the weight is abit higher than expected, but it is so well distributed, that I cannot complain
I love spatial audio and instrument separation while using them
my main complain(s):
1. case
2. not really portable. I mean that I don't feel comfortable carrying it around. I use them at home only
So smart of you guys to do this video. Many apple people will visit and learn about Abyss in the process. Would love to see more videos like this. Can you do a deep dive into the sound quality.
So these three gentlemen are the ABYSS Watchers from that famous videogame?
They actually use wifi (airplay) for lossless communication between the mac/iphone and the airpods
i had a problem with them hitting at the bottom, but its hitting the same material. the question is, is the material strong enough to scratch itself? Now thats a good question
The laid back feel of this channel, I’m subscribing
There are settings on mac that limit the loudness!! Check that out and try again!
It's like inspecting on a watch. Thanks for sharing and your perspective. Love it!
Headphones are great however there should be a way to use them corded when the battery dies. I bought a cable they said would work it doesn’t
I need these guys to review everything. I love it! Thanks for sharing this content.
Got me a pair and I think they sound amazing, but I’m also coming from beats so idk I think it’s quite the step up
Would LOVE to see about these now with Spatial Audio
When you say headphone engr, what’s the educ background/course to take? Thanks
probably audio engineers or something similar? im not so aknowledged in the topic though
Industrial engineer probably, its just basically designing for the industry, Im not sure that headphone engineer exists as an educational background.
Bummer that they didn’t disassemble them and talked about the real interesting stuff that you find inside
“It’s not stamped, it wouldn’t be practical”
“But also a milling bit couldn’t get into those contours”
What camera does the Abyss team use?
The video is SUPER CRISP
I know I’m getting old I watched this video and enjoyed it too it’s entirety. Good stuff
Watching now that I know how each side is powered, there is no lead in the headband. They use contacts like how AirPods charge in the case.
it is true what they say though from ther prospective its a very well engineered device, the price tag didnt' shock them because most headphones at this level details woudl be priced about that, its not for the regular consumer its for someone that wants to pay for something luxuary, They did with with Apple watch when it first came out. Apples first Gen products usually are over engineered with nothing held back then they start to redesign cheaper products but they try to give people something that WOW''s the market that stands out, and Airpods max really does stand out people will remember them.
