I will make a couple of pairs with this handle style for my own use. I've got more tong ideas in the pipeline. Thanks Ron and hope you're having a great holiday season.
Hammerhead is something someone else also said about this tong and of course I see that. But I've also been called a hammer head for my ideas sometimes! Thanks.
I don't have much experience with making / using ring keepers so I need to work on this more since there seems to be more than few people who prefer using tongs this way. Thanks and hope you're having a great holiday season.
When I saw the hardy tool adapter at the beginning of this video. I was inspired to make something very much like that one. I don’t want to have to weld multiple tools so if I make a hardy tool adapter like that I can make a bunch of items I can insert in the adapter and not need a shank for all the items I can use in that hardy adapter. Thank you for your inventive ideas. Awesome content and awesome creativity you have.
I'm very glad you can borrow any idea from watching. But be warned, some of my ideas are straight out of left field! But using a tube for changeable hardy tools is a good one that I need to expand upon. Thanks.
I believe a second pair of these I made for another customer came out better since I kept the outriggers the exact width of the stock. I'e got more tong ideas so let's see. Thanks.
I have same problem using tongs after a hand injury, needed to clip the tongs all the time as very low grip strength After a few years smithing my grip has improved a little and can go without the clip on smaller work now So hopefully improvements will continue 🙏
Yes, I made that up on the fly and it worked well for wider stock like this. I made second pair of this style tong for another customer and had to rewatch my video for this step - for crying out loud! Thanks Vern
As for ergonomics; I believe the longer handle will be an asset for an injured hand ( it gives the mechanical advantage ). The other features that help aid a weak or injured hand would be curved handles made of round stock. Merry Christmas.
Of course I'm super glad you can find any inspiration. I've got more tong ideas so let's see how stupid I can get! Hope you're having a great holidays season. Peace on Earth, goodwill and all that good stuff to all.
Hey Jon, I'm gonna make myself a couple of pairs with this grip. And I've got some other tong ideas of late. Hope you're having a great holiday season. Thanks.
Hi Kathy, I'm very glad you enjoy my videos and the tongs you purchased. I have more tong ideas to try. Thanks for all your support and I hope you're having a great holiday season.
Having that tube makes it easy to make other, interchangeable hardy tools. And yeah, having it offset is easier on the hardy hole / more stable. Thanks Glenn
I’m sorry I didn’t mention that I also see how clever the outrigger tongs will be. Much more stable having the outriggers than just grasping work in the middle; these will give a lot better grasp having the outriggers. Very clever idea almost like box tongs without the outriggers being bent to grab the work like box tongs maybe try making a second set as you said they could be cumbersome but if another set had the extra outriggers bent like box tongs they would lock the larger stock in really good.
I made a second pair of these and kept the outriggers shorter or exactly the width of the stock the tong will hold and I think that's better. Thanks for watching.
Yes, I do have a small slot punch but it never was that good. I did make a new one, though that's larger, and will make a smaller, better version when I have time. But the amount of material I removed here was negligible and won't affect the pivot area strength. Thanks for watching.
Yes, for sure. I'm thinking that 420 stainless might make excellent hot punches but I've been wrong a lot before so who knows... Once I get them sorted, you (and I ) will see. Thanks.
Liked the handle embellishment. Good idea. Thanks to the "Tong Master"
I will make a couple of pairs with this handle style for my own use. I've got more tong ideas in the pipeline. Thanks Ron and hope you're having a great holiday season.
Looks like a Hammerhead shark eating a chunk of steel. Very cool Glen

Best tongs yet love the ring keeper these would be great for camp cooking
I don't have much experience with making / using ring keepers so I need to work on this more since there seems to be more than few people who prefer using tongs this way. Thanks and hope you're having a great holiday season.
Merry Christmas everybody! I hope youse all get Coal! Whatever you celebrate, peace on earth, goodwill to all.
Hi Crystal and hey youse guys out there in UA-cam land - I completely agree, peace to all / wish everyone is having a great holiday season. 😬🎄

Nice tongs Glen, making it up as you go along......Well I call that Creativity!!!! Good post as always!

Thanks for sharing. This is something I need to consider more and see what designs might work better for folks in a similar situation. Happy New Year.
Nice job as usual! Like the idea of using a pin for setting the tong spacing. Always some new trick to learn.

As always, inspirational and well made.
Thanks Bryson.
Those came out really nice. Keep em comin. Thanks and Merry Christmas
I'll keep doing my best. Hope you're having a great holiday season. Thanks.
I'm always fascinated by these experimental but obviously very useful video's
I like the idea of these , very cool
thanks for sharing
With tongs, I always have some sort of direction in mind so it's not completely experimental like other stuff I try. Thanks and Happy New Year.

Very good points. Thanks and have a Happy New Year.
plutôt intéressant comme concept de pince, le petit morceau d'engrenage pour texturer la pince c'est vraiment ingénieux !
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. I'll keep doing my best with my videos.
Outstanding, as always mate. 👍 You make your processes look so easy, and the outcome is always so cool.
Tong may be the only thing I do well at the forge. And even that is up for debate! Anyway, I've got more ideas so let's see. Thanks.
Allways great content. Craftmanship at its best.
I've got more tong ideas so let's see what's next. I appreciate your very generous comment. Thanks.
Imagination, ingenuity = problem solved 👍
Thanks Glen, your videos are inspirational.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I like the handle grip! Merry Christmas Glen.
Hey Jon, I'm gonna make myself a couple of pairs with this grip. And I've got some other tong ideas of late. Hope you're having a great holiday season. Thanks.
Your work is so precise! Good job!
It's always interesting to watch you work, Glen. I enjoy seeing your willingness to try non-traditional things.
When in doubt, make some sort of tong - that's my philosophy nowadays. More to come... Thanks Dennis.
Dude, i love your vids! And i love my tongs you made me.
Hi Kathy, I'm very glad you enjoy my videos and the tongs you purchased. I have more tong ideas to try. Thanks for all your support and I hope you're having a great holiday season.
Good idea on the hardy tool to have the tool part offset from the hardy insert.

Merry Christmas Glen.
I wish you a belated Merry Christmas and hope you're having a great holiday season. Thanks.
Hmm. I think for the tongs you could make and use a small slot punch, and then drift the slot open. You will end up with a more sturdy joint.
Yes, I do have a small slot punch but it never was that good. I did make a new one, though that's larger, and will make a smaller, better version when I have time. But the amount of material I removed here was negligible and won't affect the pivot area strength. Thanks for watching.
Danke!
Supper sir love your work thanku
they are beautifull
Thanks for watching.
Those are "Hammer-head" tongs
That's good - I thought of that as well, that would be more suitable if I were to give them a permanent name. Thanks.
Please make a video of the stainless punches! Thanks
Yes, for sure. I'm thinking that 420 stainless might make excellent hot punches but I've been wrong a lot before so who knows... Once I get them sorted, you (and I ) will see. Thanks.
Try making a slaters hammer, no videos of that type of hammer being made.
I'll need to look that up, never heard of that type of hammer. If it's something I can do, I will. Thanks.
Been looking for that to 👍
Красиво!
