I was able to build a treehouse above a Surtling spawner and have Bonemass unalive himself on said spawner. I even dug down so the Surtlings died in the water.

I had a tree stand and was wailing away with wood arrows thinking it would take all day. Then I turned around and a wraith was up there with me and boinked me off my perch aaaaallll the way down there. I died instantly of course :)
This was nice to see. On my first playthrough since xbox release is new and just beat the elder. Was scared this guy was gonna be super hard but he doesnt seem too bad. Seems the scariest thing is just trying to survive the swamp itself until you get the gear...

This helped me, thank you. I didn't realize that bonemass was like an abomination, just get above him and hammer away with the iron sledge. After that it was just a matter of taking the iron sledge and making a stagbreaker for when the iron sledge gave up.
Great video, very well explained. I personally took option 1 to kill him in combat using the iron mace along with a portal on top of the giant skull in case he needed to flee. The strategies that you have are very good, the iron sledge above the giant skull is also a good option or if you feel confident you can use the frostener, you just have to hunt some drakes in the mountains.
My favourite method of getting him is to hop on top of a nearby sunken crypt entrance, knock back some poison resistance mead, and mash him repeatedly with the iron mace. Fast and fairly painless.
I had started an extra world that I regularly enter to drop off ores and regain health during difficult encounters to save myself the time of having to run all the way back from spawn and trying to collect dropped items. During my boss fight whenever I got too low I'd just escape into the other world and wait to reheal (doing so however clears your potion resistance and any other buffs/debufs. I wish I'd thought of leveling and clearing the surrounding area because I was fighting the boss and terrain and every mob you could think of at the same time lol

Then you get dressed, eat food, call the boss and collect one tombstone. Then you just hit the boss with a club. When there are 5 seconds left until the end of the buff, you collect another tombstone and update the buff. So you repeat until the boss dies. The fastest, easiest and most honest way provided by the game.
@@isolated4846 pretty sure bonemass is also weak to the spirit dmg from silver weapons too, tbh i found a random silver vein sticking out the cliffside on a massive mountain with my friends while waiting for the last person to start the boss so we just got a wolf cape and frostners off the bat, also the mountain had the moder spawn and there was a yagluth spawn literally on the plains surrounding the mountain, we also found the queen spawn like very close as well lmao. To be fair all 3 were like 3/4 of the way to the edge of the world but it was a very easy trip all the way to spawn just using the ocean and going in a straight line.
As an aside, this game it built around it various biomes/environments. Unlike many other games, don’t prioritize items/resources, thoughts are secondary. The primary concern in this games is environment and generally how to manipulate it to your advantage. Build, destroy, dig, etc. First, make the environment work in your favor. Then, you can an worry about item/resource collection. Never used any resistances to defeat boss. Let the environment do the heavy lift after you have shaped it to your advantage. Food to keep up stamina is fairly necessary throughout the game. Health is important if you plan to take damage or tank. Or, you can go full archer and line of sight the boss down. Good luck.
Never done the fight before, you can build on bonemass's spawn skull structure and built up. Shot close to 1000 arrows at him lol. Made a platform that was around chest level on bonemass's skull spawner and was able to take swings at him with the mace.
The best method is to build a treehouse with a roof and build an earthen wall underneath (to prevent the boss from approaching the house). On normal difficulty, you only need about 120 silver arrows or about 70 frost arrows and a level 4 draugh fang
Imagine a new player, going into this fight with a spear, and without poison resistance... There's no hints in the game to warn players that certain playstyles are fully useless against this one boss.
Let’s make this simple. Here is how you bug out Bonemass and never need to worry about using any poison resistant items. Find a Bonemass spawn spot. Identify the biomes around it. This is how it’s done. Argo Bonemass out of the swamp. Did this in the middle of a large swamp. Pull him up out of the swamp and deep into the Meadows. At the point, let him smash his way through the trees and argo the various critters there. Then, take note of the map location and just run from him. He didn’t re-spawn or move back to the swamp. He just stayed in the Meadows, generally right where you run from him. Now, grab about 500 (this is where the tedium sets in). Make sure you have at least a fine wood bow. If you craft fire arrows, they are helpful to keep track of shot direction/accuracy (like a tracer), and when they hit Bonemass, he is set ablaze, which further confirms the hit and allows you to keep an eye on his location. Just find a spot in Meadows than is fairly mob-free, stay out of argo distance/range, and fire away with your 500 flame arrows. You will have to repair the bow once. So, keep in mind that half-way through you will need to hit up a workbench that can repair your bow. Yes, Bonemass will regenerate about 10-20% of his health while performing your repair (depending on your workbench location). Once repaired, head back to your safe shooting spot and fire away at him. It takes about 20 mins max. Just stay in Meadows and out of argo and launch volley after volley of arrows at him. Yes, his health bar will tick very slowly down (hence the 500 arrows). However, benefits of the strategy are obvious: (1) no poison, (2) no mobs, (3) no argo, and (4) no wasting valuable resources. All it costs is patience, time, and a small bit of luck (plus 500 fire arrows). Having a tamed wolf or two guarding your behind from a safe distance (as to not argo and chase down Bonemass) is also helpful. Maybe he just bugged out, but this strategy worked. Good luck.
I've already terminated Bonemass more than once but this was so educational and fun to watch. One thing I would add, Don't know if I got lucky or not but with both The Elder and Bonemass on one occasion each I got to a point where I ended up behind a bunch of trees and the boss just stood there in the distance frozen and seems could not find a path to me. And I just shot arrows from the same point until the boss in question was killed.

The iron atgeir makes super short work of them if you have stamina- you can stun lock them by starting with the alt attack and then poking them to death

yup, so you can build a frostner if there is a chance to find silver to build it - as it does blunt and frost damage.

far as fire goes.. i built a pen around the surtling core spawn and just ran in circles while he got flammed to death.. took about 30 minutes though

I just use the stag breaker to find silver and then upgrade to silver then come back and fight bonemass.

They're easy for me to kill now, and that's how i knew it was time to move on to the swamp.
