I don't know what people are talking about Abe not playing complex songs. Just because every drummer in the world isn't playing blast beats and double bass doesn't mean it isn't complex or good. The dude totally rips while perfectly fitting snugly into each and every song. I mean has anyone listened to Cherry Waves...Mein???? Abe is creative and subtle but completely rips when needed...kinda like a heavier version of Chad Smith is how I like to think of him. Very loose style but also very hard hitting when needed. Just overall great flow...and what a humble dude...I mean really...c'mon. I know the guy is basically a hero to me so I'm biased, but really...saying his stuff isn't complex is an unfair criticism and completely inaccurate, ESPECIALLY on Diamond Eyes. Rocket Skates, You've Seen the Butcher, CMND/CNTRL. Go ahead. Sit down and play them accurately and see if they are not complex. Even Steph catches flack from the "it's not technical" naysayers yet I've never seen them play a single song or take time to see just how intricate the sounds really are even though they don't sound like it. There's so much going on when it comes to making a song other than technicality...and even then that argument doesn't hold up against him. Abe knows his shit. Guy gets crazy with the ghost notes like you wouldn't believe. Sorry for the rant. I just can't stand seeing people spew illogical bs all over someone that has probably done more for and knows way more about music than they probably ever will. I'm not saying you can't not like something for personal reasons, but just pure illogical shit is what floors me.
Novaki I totally agree with you. His stuff sounds good and Abe is a great drummer. Been a fan of his and Deftones for a long time. Passenger off of White Pony is one of my favorite songs to play.
Agree 100%. Well Written
Novaki Yep agreed! Abe plays with feel and groove and that is why I love his drumming! You are dead on man!
Only posers think abe is basic, if you know drums you understand how good he is
i love Deftones R.I.P Chi we all love you, you rocked hard and will forever be missed
never really listened to this band, but this guy has a good collection of cymbals, zildjian definetily being my favourite. i am really going to lean a lot from this guy.
I love how Abe beats the living piss out of his cymbals.
abe seems like a cool guy. really talkative
love his kit
Same with me, I love Deftones as well. Rock on Chi, may rest you in peace.
The Tama bubinga series are SUPER sexy big warm sounding drums. Nobody does bubinga wood like Tama and Zildjians are amazing too.
Song @ 0:42 is "Head up" off of Around the Fur

When my sister saw the Deftones in the 90's She saw Stephen grinding against Chino. Stephen and Chino both laughed and said "You the gay man" Stephen then took drank a 40.
No disrespect to any other drummer but Abe is probably one of the best top 4 or top3 percussionists of all time. That jazz background he has makes it seem like he has an extra arm and foot.
Those drums are so beautiful...
There has never been and never will be a drum segment like the bridge in Knife Prty.
It is without equal.
3:16 is the stephen playing a bass?
@Drumlord3005 That song is "Headup" off of the Around the Fur album
