0:47 Battle Axe 1:36 Death Blow 2:25 Hexagram 3:17 Minerva. just in case you're not familiar with the album and you want to know which songs are which.
There are certain records of theirs that I feel belong more to certain people. For instance, I consider Diamond Eyes to be predominantly Chino and Frank, with the rest of the band supporting them. Self Titled is definitely Stephan's fucking record. The songs are all very guitar riff driven, he just switched to a 7th string and started seriously incorporating his MESHUGGAH influence. It's their heaviest, most fucking badass sounding album for sure.
no doubt, im pretty sure eros would of been a chino and stephen album given it would of been almost like self titled with chinos i guess angst from his experinces with years follow up to it and stephens metal influences . shame we wont be seeing it soon
In fact, lots of people criticed badly this album, and I consider this one the 3rd best album of theirs. (White Pony, Diamond Eyes, Self titled and Koi..) The best deftones sound is either a Chino "soft" song arranged by the rest, or Stephen hard guitar & Abe cool drumming with the work of the rest of the band on top of it.
I remember having bought this album and this bonus content was only available online thru a link on the cd. Shit brings tears to my eyes such a great album.
I remember watching this on my fucking MAC… not MacBook… a fucking MAC!! The self-titled album being an enhanced CD, a friend asked me if I’d seen it yet, I told her no, and she was like “fool… pop it into your mom’s computer!!! There’s shit on there you can watch!!!” This blew my mind!!!! Video?!?! On my audio CD?! This was the future, man. lol
@LeadTheParadeMusic NVM - i just realised its deathblow lol. damn theres just something about it tho - it sounds so..different here. theres alot more effects and the bass riff is slightly different
The death blow writing demo is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. I was actually disappointed by how different it sounded on the album when I first heard it. Great song anyway
@@mmm0632 it's at 1:30ish. i don't think it's any different, it's just that in the final mix frank's parts are turned down... which is a shame because he killed it on this album. they should re-release it with him turned up.
The one thing I love about Terry date other than he one of the greatest producer's is that he pretty much lets you do what you want to do and just knows how to record and make great albums. But I think that with the Deftones they just probably were a little lazy and I'm sure Terry patience ran very thin with them but at the end of the day lazy or not when they did get in there they did get shit done and actually made great songs. But I really hate so-called Deftones fans and people that talk shit about the self- titled and Saturday night wrist albums. But I personally think self-titled Saturday night is like two of my favorite albums and the fact that a lot of times people forget that even know those were dark times that could be some of the greatest writing is through pain and suffering and unfortunate but makes album sound great I freaking love this album Heavy as hell... it did go gold so i say screw that...if you're a Deftones fan you should like self-titled and Saturday night wrist if you don't you're not a true fan. But in defense you know certain people are fans of Deftones out there could not like those albums for many reasons so I guess I'm just really and I have always been a fan since 1995 and they've helped me and their music through so much and I don't know... I guess had to stop and really think about that.. but I just hate when people talk shit on those two albums because they're great albums....
when i first minerva i didnt get it thought it was boring probably too young but I loved the album from the start. Minerva now is one of my favourite deftones songs, matured a little in my taste i guess
@Verdespraderas You wouldn't happen to have the one where Stephen cuts all the strings on Chino's guitars, would you? I lost that disc a long time ago but I thought that was pretty funny shit!
Yeah, they have a lot of songs that are very suitable to getting high (Pink Maggit and Nosebleed are so fucking good for). But Chino quit smoking it. Idk if Steph and Abe quit too.
Holy shit what I would do to hear the version of "deathblow" that's in this video... it's a good song but it's always been one of the more underwhelming ones on this beautiful album... really wish they would've stuck with this mix/version
They must've driven terry completely crazy in the studio lol
He was fed the fuck up.
0:47 Battle Axe 1:36 Death Blow 2:25 Hexagram 3:17 Minerva. just in case you're not familiar with the album and you want to know which songs are which.
the opening riff in Hexagram is just heavenly
"But when your da boss... take a break as long as you wawnt!" - Classic Stephen Line!

What a great time when this record was released. This & Meshuggahs "Nothing" ruled my teenage life.

Adrenaline has to be Stephan’s album

That part at the end about the wrong drum fill was so fucking cool. Thats magic at work.
I wish Terry Date come back to work with them!!
Riviere8281 wish come true!

YEAH.... TRICK EM!!!! Love it!!!
“Why you spitting em on the floor fool” lol
That battle axe riff though...

This whole video is a vibe
R.I.P. Chi Cheng....you're flying high right now.
argh i've seriously gotta sort myself out and start a band.

12 years later, any updates?
Sweet nice. Gotta love that california feel sound. From these bands :-)
punctuated perfectly with Abe's drumming though.
@LeadTheParadeMusic NVM - i just realised its deathblow lol.
damn theres just something about it tho - it sounds so..different here.
theres alot more effects and the bass riff is slightly different
"Trick 'em"
With Chino's guitar added on the battle axe sessions it sounded so much more different
DRNo70 it's in there in the final song if you listen closely, they just kept it very subtle in the mix
Its called mixing
I want all these clips in HD
Thanks for posting this!
I totally have Chino's Glassjaw shirt.
Muito foda 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
But when you the boss take a break as long as you want....WELL SAID!!!!

I wish I couldn't got a glimpse of Abe's snare on this. Pretty sure he used the Tama BB on this record.
1:27 - 2:00 is the most trippiest thing i ever heard..
Why is that not releases?!?
It’s deathblow
Heavy as fuck

Why steph eyes are censored?
te amo steps your yhe boss
How about that Glassjaw shirt!
@theiony Ya i figured tha out after it just sounds so much different on this vid
weed. thats why deftones is so awesome
Nah
Yeah, they have a lot of songs that are very suitable to getting high (Pink Maggit and Nosebleed are so fucking good for). But Chino quit smoking it. Idk if Steph and Abe quit too.
I think they block out Stephen's eyes out because he was smoking weed, and if the police finds the video, they could arrest him.
naw what 😭
HE SOUNDS LIKE LINK FROM GMM
White Pony was done while Chino was under the influence of Cocaine. So Cocaine also makes them awesome. But yeah :P
Abes a fucking beast. Just destroyed Minerva
thats why the name is white pony :p
@XBassxRockerX theyre
deathblow
*beginning
Holy shit what I would do to hear the version of "deathblow" that's in this video... it's a good song but it's always been one of the more underwhelming ones on this beautiful album... really wish they would've stuck with this mix/version
It just sounds like they turned what Frank was doing on the final mix or just straight up cut it. It's a shame because it suits the final mix well.
Chino rep'n GLASSJAW
Why they covering stefs face lol
its cause he's stoned fool. plus it looks cool. especially when your stoned.
" sell seeds " ... lol
@rockshow256 because he's stoned
