Written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in1929, about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Led Zeppelins treatment is astonishing. Authentic American Delta Blues, recorded by 4 brilliant English musicians 42 years after it's first release. ,. The original analog recording by Led Zeppelin in 1971 was played by the band at a slightly faster tempo. Upon completion of the basic tracks of the song, the tape was slightly slowed down for the songs overdubs. This tempo shift is what gives When The Levee Breaks its hypnotic trance like vibe. I'm so glad you're feeling better Mo. Take care of yourself dear, RNB
I love when Robert Plant comes in, and begins to sing. All reactors were already like, "wow, this is amazing" and then Robert Plant starts singing and they're just like "Whoa. Okay, it just keeps getting better." lol. Also, MT - that hair. Gorgeous.
Lucky Harrison nope I was taken by her the first time I saw her...absolutely BEAUTIFUL! She has such an earthy, natural beauty, as can also be described as Angelical! ❤️
There is no band better than Zeppelin! Watch their live stuff...mind blowing! I'm 61 and grew up on rock...nobody can touch Zeppelin! Oh and I live in Chicago! 😂
I couldn't agree more, Julie. I grew up also in the 70's and 80's era of rock and roll when there were fantastic bands coming out of the woodwork on a regular basis but none compare to Zeppelin. Their infusion of Jazz, R & B and hard rock combined put them in a class all by themselves and they sounded just as good live as in the recording studio.
This song is a remake of a song by Memphis Minnie in 1929. It’s about an actual levee breaking in Mississippi and the ensuing flood that caused death and devastation for miles around. That’s why he sings, “go to Chicago” because many people lost their homes and livelihoods. It’s a great song of apocalyptic proportions. You don’t need to drink or smoke to enjoy Zeppelin, you just need a soul.
In 1927 the levees on the Mississippi River broke in at least 145 places. It took the homes of over 700,000 people, many were African Americans. They had to find shelter and work elsewhere. The singer in this song decided to go to Chicago. A great old blues song that tells a historical story. By the way, try Santana- Soul Sacrifice 1969 live at Woodstock. You won’t be disappointed.
I drove my family crazy when I was a kid with Led Zeppelin 4 and Tommy. Lol. I played them back to back, over and over and over! This is my favorite song on the album.
What a great smile! Having grown up with Led Zeppelin (along with many others you'll soon discover) it's great seeing you listen, and watch your sometimes surprised looking smile when something changes or is added to the song. You're going to find that Zeppelin did pretty much every genre and style, and mastered them all. Enjoy! My God, you're beautiful.
Also the American version of Led Zeppelin, Journey. Amazing guitarist, solid vocals, great song writing and amazing performances. Open Arm, Send Her My Love, When you love a woman. So many more are amazing. If you want another suggestion, Canadian blues rock Colin James and the Little Big Band, check out Standing On The Edge Of Love, 5 Long Years, Just Came Back, Why'd You Lie, Into The Mystic and so on.

Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, this song shows just one of their music styles, try listening to The live version of Kashmir, on Celebration Day album or on utube. Great smile.
This is one of the the songs us old folks can name in one beat. Great spin on a very old song and now it’s 50 years old. Just goes to show that good songs live forever. Saw Zeppelin in the 70’s and when they started to play this song the crowd went wild.✌️

It's a an old straight blues song, they re-worked into their trance mutant blues style. William Burroughs told Page they played trance music, similar effect to Moroccan trance music.
When the Levee Breaks is one of the more complex songs from Led Zeppelin, great choice. If you are looking for another Zeppelin song, either "Going to California" or try and find the live version of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (w/ Najma Akhtar) doing "The Battle of Evermore".
Cover of a classic American blues song, about a real flood. In the relentless rolling guitar riff you can just see that relentless rolling muddy water. Drummers and drum instructors particularly love this shuffle drum beat. Very subtle, very subdued, very hard for even skilled drummers to replicate, because he's mixing in heavy and soft beats in between each other just for fun.
Glad your starting to feel better Morenikeji, when Zeppelin recorded this John Bonham was'nt in the recording studio itself, they put him out in the stairwell because he was hitiing the drums so hard. True!
LZ always played old Delta Blues (Mississippi/Louisiana) from Deep South (USA) with a hard rock edge. Blues came from African slaves in the Deep South. Many AfroAmericans liked LZ music back in the days. Obviously lol. You look pretty BTW. Good video.
Great song. Great reaction. I don't really mind what you react to, I just enjoy watching your beautiful, expressive face. Your smile is a ray of sunshine
Worked security for Pink Floyd's Momentary Lapse Of Reason tour in Pittsburgh back in '88. Couldn't afford a ticket, so my friend and I found the company staffing the security. We got paid for being security, which was just a ruse to see the show. lol. We ended up posted with our elbows on the front barrier stage left, our back's to the audience all night taking in the show, right in front of the three female vocalists. Was making eye contact with one of those angels and I fell in love during that show... she left the stage and I never saw her again... except you can search the Floyd show for the Momentary tour when they played in Venice where my lost love lives on in my dreams. Alas, I remain broken hearted... but the Floyd show kicked ASS that night! ... and we got paid like $42 each for our security "work." lmao. Life is good. Thanks again Morenikeji! Two classics for you to review! Seven Spanish Angels by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, and From Boulder to Birmingham by Emmylou Harris. Solid Gold, you can't go wrong.

Hi Mo - sorry to hear you’ve been unwell. Curious to see your reaction to this one. This is a 52 year old rework of a much older delta blues track. See Rick Backers excellent background to this old classic in the comments. The song describes a true story about a levee in the southern states of America that broke. A levee in case you didn’t know is a man made earth barrier built to hold back a large amount of water. This is done to protect low lying land and the people that live there (usually near to the sea). If a bad storm or such a situation were to cause the levee to break then flooding and death and destruction behind it results. Hence the lyric ‘ cryin won’t help you, praying won’t do you no good, when the levee breaks, got no place to go’ - so it’s a story told in song inspired by a catastrophic flood. Even though it was recorded in 1970 (ancient history to you 😉) it actually has the sound of a much older style of blues. As you seem to like Zeppelin, try ‘Since I’ve been loving you’ ..... a different style of blues. So beautiful it still can make me cry hearing it today all these years later. Hope you’re feeling better, stay safe
U should check out the covers of “When a Man Loves a Woman” by “Home free & Michael Bolton. Also “Unbreak My Heart “ by Toni Braxton. She has the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard.
Just love it (LZFFLZ) Thank You :-) About “When the Levee Breaks”. Kansas Joe McCoy & Memphis Minnie wrote this song for the 1927 Mississippi floods that destroyed nearly almost half of the Mississippi Basin, also causing major damage to the farms in the surrounding ares.

Thank you for another fun reaction. Take care and stay safe! ♥
@@MorenikejiTaiwo You're most welcome. Thank you for accepting my words ☺ I will add that it's also our hearts as well as our minds. A great singer or an inspiring melody speaks to us inside ourselves. Some songs make us cry because we feel them in a deeply personal way. As I knew a while ago that you are empathic to the feelings of others. If I may offer a few songs to try, I recommend Etta James' At Last and Patsy Cline's Crazy. Both were ladies who captured their emotions in the voices and made you feel as they do.
