i had a 2000 KTM 380 and loved it, you can adjust the power valve for the hit. I geared mine up with an FMF Gnarly pipe and it was like an electric motor
I bought my 2000 KTM 380 new and still have it....fantastic bike! Raced it in Enduros, GNCCs, Hare scrambles and more. I changed to torque reeds and pipe which made it great for the woods and with the greater flywheel mass it was amazing in technical big rock sections...heavier springs front and rear and I would revalve the stock Forks depending on the event. The only issue I had was dead engine race starts....clutch in, in gear first kick starts averaged about 70%.
That thing with throw gudgeon pins like they darts! The 400 was the most unreliable 4 stroke in motocross history. The 425 was when Yamaha got their shit together and even they wanted everyone to forget about the disaster 400cc they produced
Incredible machine they where never left side kick start anyway thanks for sharing finally folks are starting to realize that KTM was ahead of there time about the altimate big bore 2 stroke.
@@VitaliyKhomich well what KTM 2 stroke came with a left side kick starter then? I do recall at least some KTMs doing this and it repulsed me! Husaberg were allowed to do this because they were friggin awesome and that was the cost you were willing to pay to ride such a beast? They were allowed to be quirky and you were not allowed to complain because your complaint meant little in comparison to the amount of awesomeness you got to experience? KTM on the other hand had no right to subject it's riders as their 90s bikes were the biggest pieces of shit to ever hit the track? You looked like a dork because you would be going for a kick starter that wasn't there or you fell over trying to kick start your bike with your piss weak left leg? Husaberg owners didn't have weak left legs because they were riders with unwavering conditioning of kicking over high compression four-strokes with no cylinder decompression mechanism! Husabergs bread masculine riders immune to such embarrassment or their riders roll started their bikes. KTMs of the 90s were renound as "Keep Throwing Money" because they were unreliable and just plain shit. Not a single soul would be game enough to say to a Husaberg owner that their bike was shit because of left leg kick starter! On the contrary KTM bikes were already so shit that putting a left left kick starter on such a shit bike should have caused company foreclosure! Not to mention that if it wasn't for KTM buying Husaberg their entire existence in motocross would have ceased!
What do you mean by this? 2 stroke always needs an expansion chamber? If you are referring to the muffler then there is no limitation to what sound suppressor can be fitted to what motor? They simply cut off the incorrect diameter spigot and weld on the matching diameter pipe. No different to what any exhaust shop does for any car? Very rarely do people who are getting a replacement exhaust for their car; replace it with a factory item. No different here. Also the entire bike is custom, why would you even ask a this question and not think that any part of the exhaust system is NOT custom? The expansion chamber is designed specifically to meet the volumetrics of cylinder i.e neither a 250 nor 500 expansion chamber will work on this bike, the bike has an expansion chamber specifically design for 380cc period.
@jameshatton4405 wdym why would I ask this question? It's a 4 stroke silencer going on a 2 stroke? I don't think you can just slap on a 4 stroke silencer to a 2 stroke and it will perform correctly, you must have to change the core or something I assume, that's why I asked. Didn't know we had Mitch Payton in the comment section lol
Yes it absolutely will. I have the 2000 380sx and I not only am faster in a straight line then my buddies 450 but I have faster lap times at the local track on my 380. The bike is light like a 2t not heavy at all. I think it's advantage is in its weight to power ratio. Mines an absolute animal
Not they were not faster than 250s of their time on tracks it was meant to be an open bike but was under gunned there as well it couldn’t lug the same as a KX/CR500. They rev slow and chuggy compared to 125/250 and have no where near the HP and torque of a modern 450 they got dominated by the 450 of their time. Many of the KTM open bike guys rode the big 500+ four strokes instead of the 380 but all the internet 2 stroke fans that don’t actually ride will tell you otherwise.
beautiful amalgam machine. but 380cc 2-stroke is a bit much for me. 300 with smoothed out 2023 power delivery is more my jam. but that does look and sound nice!
I agree. Hearing this bike reminds me of the excruciating vibrations of my 90s RM250! The smoothness of the new 300s is because they use a harmonic balancer to smooth out the vibrations. I honestly don't think this bike sounds nice at all! It sounds like an old piece of shit in a new looking bike in my opinion. My fear riding a CR500 was never the brute power of the 500, but the fear of the vibrations causing my hard to unintentionally open the throttle because I'm hanging on for life! Actually, my greatest fear would be getting into a tank slapper on a 500 in the peak of powerband and inadvertently opening the throttle even more and looking like an Australian flag flapping in the wind!
