    What’s wrong with spicy 🌶️ foods?

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +3

      Nothing I hope! lol! Dr Greger has some videos on them, I think he even has a recent one that I need to see. Actually he has two:
      nutritionfacts.org/video/how-hot-peppers-may-extend-your-life/
      nutritionfacts.org/video/is-spicy-food-good-for-you/
      From the transcript: "what does the consumption of hot spicy foods do to our lifespan? Well, a massive study of a half million men and women in China found that those regularly eating spicy foods had an associated 14 percent reduction in total mortality, meaning the risk of premature death. That could translate into about an extra year into your lifespan, if it is cause-and-effect.
      Those of you who follow my work know there are two main potential issues with observational studies: reverse causality and confounding factors. In other words, instead of spicy foods leading to less disease, maybe disease is leading to less spicy food, with sick people eating blander diets. However, the apparent benefit remained even after excluding sick folks, or those who were just about to croak. And so, reverse causality doesn’t seem to explain it, though hey, people who eat spicy food probably drink more. And what do they drink in China? Green tea. So, maybe that’s what going on? It would be nice to replicate this in a non-green tea drinking country, or even a country that drinks terrible stuff, like the United States. And yet same thing: a 13 percent reduction in premature death. And the protective association remained even after controlling for Mexican-American ethnicity. As I detailed before, they have a longevity advantage, presumably because they eat so many beans.
      Same thing was found in Italy, this time a 23 percent lower all-cause mortality. That’s like two extra years of life. The authors conclude that minor dietary changes, such as just adding chilies to one’s usual diet, could be valuable measures for improving health.
      There have been four studies done overall, including this one in Iran, that all found the same thing: significantly lower risk of premature death. In fact, black or chili pepper consumption was associated with about the same lifespan extension as turmeric, even at just like a pinch a day. And, those that did both seemed to do even better, which is consistent with the ability of a black pepper compound to boost the bioavailability of the turmeric compound curcumin.""

      There are some claims that nightshade plants might cause problems for weak people who are already weakened by previous bad diet and lifestyle. But according the two principles by the China Study, only eating whole plants benefit us without any side effects. Plus, Dr Greger has evidences showing that spicy foods fight cancer and boost health. Personally I cannot eat too many spicy whole plants but I am going to eat more spicy whole plants. God bless!

    Great conversation, but I wish he would think a bit more before he says some of the things he does, like comparing chicken to plants. Claiming chicken has no water - what you say something that is easy to debunk you are handing those that want to dismantle you a huge example of your errors.
    Skinless white meat chicken is about 60% water. Then to include water in with the "entire nutrient complex" when 1) water is a nutrient and 2) skinless white meat chicken is almost 2/3 water. You get the idea.
    Plants for the win but make sure you think about what you say!

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +2

      Well during the chilling process meat absorbs water and often they inject meat with water so it weighs more. But because meat is generally cooked the water may be released. And whether or not that water would be there naturally occurring by the time a person receives, cooks and eats meat as would be inside of a fruit is a whole other thing. I don't think they inject water into fruit. And when you eat the fruit you're probably not cooking the fruit so you're getting most of the water. Sure all animals are made predominantly of water like all living organisms. But generally there is no carbohydrates which is carbon and water. People on a so called carnivore diet have to drink A LOT of water. People on a raw vegan diet may barely have to drink water. I say this because I have met vegans who literally rarely if ever drink water. For example Mark Huberman who runs this event that we're at drinks one glass a day. A person on a so-called carnivore diet would not last long with just one glass of water. So while you're right that flesh generally has water naturally occurring, it's probably gone by the time it gets to the consumer's mouth. And the water that does remain in the flesh is probably used up and offset by urea production that needs to be excreted by the kidneys. When I put skinless white meat chicken as you said in the cronometer it doesn't show any water. But when I put fruit in the cronometer it shows water. So I don't know how substantial the water is in a high protein food that's going to use up the water to excrete urea if it had any water left after being cooked compared to eating fruit and vegetables. So in a sense you're both right. Was there something else you didn't like that he said?

    • @MagdalenaMocarny

      Meat has uric acid, not water.

    • @_josephbogdan_
      @_josephbogdan_ 4 місяці тому +3

      There is so little moisture in meat it basically evaporates when cooked. So he was right in his comment there is no water in meat.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +1

      Don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from. It is annoying when people say things that are blatantly wrong and in the mix of saying a bunch of great things it might take away from the great things they are saying. I've heard others make the claim that there is no water in meat. You're right that there is actually but it seems to be canceled out by purines and excess protein that increase uric acid and creatinine in the blood and cooking and all that so it's kind of a moot point and a lot of times it's just injected to increase the weight. When metabolizing that extra protein urea is produced and needs to be excreted by the kidneys requiring more water to be consumed.

    You are flat out wrong about fruit. You need calories. An optimal diet is 80% fruit and all raw, no grains. Been doing it 30 years, feel and perform like I'm 20.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +1

      what did he say about fruit that is wrong? And what is wrong with whole grains? Just because you feel good not eating whole grains doesn't have anything at all to do with whether they're healthy or not. Grains are a staple in some of the healthiest people and are one of the most sustainable, and available foods on the planet. You have a lot of work to do to prove grains are not good for you. There are lots of ways to form an optimal diet.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +2

      I just searched for fruit in the transcript and he mentions fruit about 9 times and every time he mentions fruit positively EXCEPT one time he says you can't base your diet on fruit. As a general rule/message this is probably a good thing to put out there. We're trying to help people have a diverse and successful diet. The majority of failed vegan stories I've seen have been people who yoyo dieted and virtually all of them went on a raw diet at some point. The overwhelming majority of vegans I know are not raw. Mark Huberman was raw the first 32 years of his life until he finally ate something cooked, I think a potato. And he hasn't been raw since and he's 73 this year. If someone can pull off a raw diet that's awesome, don't get me wrong, I don't think it's practical for most people. A healthy, organic variety is just not vastly accessible. And it isn't necessary. I know some vegans that almost never eat fruit because of where they live. And they're doing great, albeit they've not been doing it as long. I agree raw is great, but I'm more on Dr Furhman's side, and the majority of doctors I know, and what I do is both raw and cooked. Some foods like tomatoes, cruciferous, mushrooms, carrots, etc. increase in nutritional value and/or have mild less favorable plant compounds removed from heat. As for the idea that cooking destroys enzymes and water soluble nutrients, there's nothing in the science that I'm aware of or those I've asked even that suggests any of this is true to the extent that it matters. Of course, there's better ways to cook things, I'm not saying cook the hell out of food, lowest temps are best generally.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  4 місяці тому +1

      also, you can be 100% raw and still have grains and legumes, simply sprout them. Do you not eat nuts, seeds, and legumes either? These are all staples in a healthy, divers raw diet. They are all essentially the same as well, so I don't know why you would have a problem with grains and not legumes, seeds, and nuts or fruit even since they are all in a sense the fruit of the plant. Of course they may need to be prepared different, which is the case with fruits even.

So what is your point, do you have one? Do you know for a fact that he is fat? Do you even know anything about fat? Like the difference between subcutaneous fat and visceral fat? The fact you need to be worried about is visceral fat and you get that from eating animals.
