Literally the only two people i follow for tips and advice. So great to have you collaborating.
❤️👍 np!
Much respect to both of you. I have no ambition of starting to sell candles. My intent is to make candles that I like, and maybe give some to family. It must feel intimidating to give out your hard earned knowledge to potential competitors, but this is a tremendous service to all of us. I hope you are adequately compensated for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you. And nah, not worried about competition. So much to go around. :)
This whole exchange was so intriguing and entertaining- I vote for more collabs! 😄👏💓 Thanks Erica and Wade!
Thanks Ruby!

Thank you for creating this. I'm so in the beginning of my business. I haven't even ordered my wax yet. My name is Erika, so I'm thinking u guys are talking to me. Lol. U both r a MASSIVE help. I have no clue what I'm doing but I'm going w it & following what Jesus wants for me... money and a beautiful life w a husband 1 day. I need to be the boss in my life. I'm tired of working overtime n looking at my paycheck n be like, that's it?! I almost lost my home few months ago, but worked my butt off w HRBlock and paid my back property taxes off. I never want that letter again. Embarrassing, but my reality. I do health insurance as well. Worked my way up from bussing tables to serving to working on the line. Erica, u talk about being frustrated n to be ok w it... ok, I'm listening, cuz I am OVERWHELMED. My brain... I think my mom thinks I'd be a raging success. She was dying while I was working for The Capital Grille in the kitchen, up till 3 am w her... so I'm doing this with my mother by my side. She was a boss as well. Literally. I love making others happy n seeing them smile. But have never been fulfilled. I've never been able to hv a personal life. No man has truly loved me, been single most of my life (now 42), no kids, never married. Sacrifice, but too proud.. I adore me. I'm exhausted so bad I don't even see my purpose anymore. But I will definitely at least try this, Erica and hv tenacity, Wade. Sorry for the long reply, but I wanted to ty for not being greedy n stingy with ur recipes for success. N save the riches for urselves. U r the complete opposite n God will always bless u for sharing. U r both guiding me more than u can fathom. I pray riches in all good things for u both. C-ya on the other side. Oy!
Please keep this type of content up! It helps so much, especially this new soaper/candle maker with encouragement and inspiration!
WOW! my 2 FAVORITE Candle expert youtubers!!!! Erica taught me candle math! Wade reminded me to find my why!!!!
If you like the candle math...check out this video. It breaks down the right way to go about creating recipes and formulas. There are several resources about this topic... but to be completely blunts I disagree with most of them. Lol

@@BlackTieBarn LOL, I really want to create a successful recipe!!!
This is excellent advice. I started with a starter kit.....candle looked great but no smell hahaha. It confirmed 2 things...1. I knew that it wasn't going to be easy because if it was everyone would be making their own candles...2. It was an intriguing and captivating disaster...caused me to research like crazy, read and thank the Lord find Wade. Life is short and we all have to work...but working in a field that you really enjoy will make the not so pleasant moments very doable.
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the support Caleb as always!
Nice no nonsense advice on candle making it’s just fantastic 💪

I’ve been making candles for almost 20 years but I love watching your videos. I always learn something new
Thanks Mary. I'm always learning too! :)
All the information here was useful, even the more personal information that you guys shared---shows that you are humble in your approach to helping others.
Thanks Sandra!
This was wonderful with both you and Erica sharing you experience and insight. Thank you for putting this together and I would definitely love to see more of these collaborations!
Great. I enjoyed it as well. If love to do more!
I love this collaboration, and got a TON of knowledge and reassurance from both parts! Thank you both for being so transparent!
🙂 no problem! Thanks for being here!
Thank you so very much for your time and wisdom! I watch both of you individually and to have you both chatting and sharing together is awesome!
❤️
Loved watching both of you working together. Thank you so much for doing this. I would love to see more of you these types of videos. I have learned so much from watching both of your videos. I hope you will continue to teach "us" all about candle making! I love doing it.
More to come!
This is very good advice. Love the idea of a schedule. I’ve just ordered my second kit; this one from CandleScience. You both have amazing stories and are so generous with your experience. Thank you so much!
Awesome! Thank you!
My two favorite candlemakers collab ✨✨✨ this is lit
☺ Thanks so much!
I've been thinking about starting my own business & I found Erica on UA-cam probably about a month or 2 ago. I've learned sooo much from her. I recently found you on UA-cam & I love your videos also. I think you two are the ones I watch the most. I know NOTHING about starting/running a business so with the help of both of you I hope I'll be able to get something going in the future. I bought a candle starter kit from Pro Candle Supply & a wax melt kit from Hobby Lobby to start with. I had a blast making them. The candles looked great at first but after burning I had some issues with them looking like cottage cheese with some holes & one batch had frosting. The wax melts had some frosting & one batch had speckles of color in it but it kinda looks cool lol. I just placed a couple orders yesterday from CandleScience & West Coast Candle Supply for more supplies. I can't wait to get everything & try again! I watched a video the other day where you tested someone's candles & gave your feedback. I love that this is something that you do so maybe when I get a little more experience I'll be able to send you samples to test. Thank you for making this video & now I'm off to watch part 1 on Erica's channel.
No problem at all. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Yah the issues described are from using soy wax. And yes let me know later when ready for a review. :)
Wade, this was a beautiful collaboration with Erica! I actually was watching Erica, before I found your channel. I enjoy watching you both and Jeff Standley as too! All three of you bring different prospectives too the table. All of you evoke different emotions too. There is not one moment in watching you all that I don't learn something new about the giant world of candle making!
Thank you both for the content you share and the fun you bring to the art! Please continue to collaborate and bring us the best in candle making.
Jill Gross
Thanks Jill. I hope to continue to do so! :)
Learning to learn!!

This was great to hear and learn from! Thank you!
You're welcome. 😁
Thank you both! I have been watching you all since day one of my candle business journey and you both had helped so much! Wade, I think we would all love a video about what you did before candles! Or explain your backstory because your knowledge and the way to speak all makes seance with what you said about you being a public speaker! You are really well spoken. Id live to know more about you! Thanks again! -Alyssa
Thanks Alyssa. Not a bad idea. :)
Great job Erica and Wade. Really enjoy the back and forth discussion!!!

As someone who is trying to start a candle business (in testing phases still) and working full-time, I find all of both your videos extremely resourceful. Thank you both!

Thanks Suzi. That means a lot! Honestly, just sharing the channel and videos is the best! It's what keeps the channel afloat. :)

New subscriber having found your channel via Erica’s. Love the tips and chat about such a wide array of topics within candle making. Really early days for me in my journey but you’ve both given me the confidence to experiment and enjoy the process. Thanks Wade and excited to watch more vids on your channel.

Thanks Amanda!
This info is so helpful guys!! Would love to see more collabs this is great.
Great! Thank you Starcia!
I loved this! Please do more collaborations together! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your opinions, experiences, and suggestions. As someone whos just starting THIS out as a hobby and hopefully one day make it into a small business... this conversation has put a lot of perspective into goal setting. I literally just ordered 16x 30ml bottles of FO last week and I was learning about Branding, business, legalities, etc. My goal this year is to just have fun with it and you both just set that into stone. THANK YOU!!!! LOVEd IT!
🥰 glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much and good luck to you!
This was amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences. I am very excited and in the process of collecting the things I need to make my very first candles but plan to only do it as a hobby. After listening to the information on the business side of this I have decided it's not for me at this time. I am purchasing a lot of my items from Amazon and local craft stores since there isn't a candle supply store near me however I did order a variety of nicer FO's on line. Anything you can share in the future for those of us who plan to make candles as a hobby would be great but I love each and every one of the videos you share and find helpful information in all of them. Plus like you said, you can tell that both of you love what you do and that makes me so happy. Also, there are so many hobbies/businesses out there where people hoard their success and information and I find the candle making industry so not like that. It's very nice to see so much information being shared and people truly wanting to help others succeed in their businesses. So thank you both for all you do and share. God bless you and your businesses. :)
Thanks Jennifer for the feedback. Sound like you have a good plan. As far as hobby goes. You can still apply most of what talk about with candle making and supplies. It may just coat a bit more since you won't be buying supplies in bulk is all.
This was great.Im just starting out.Trying to get as much information as possible.Definatly do more.Thank you!
Absolutely. Np! Thanks Kim!
Thank you!! Very educational! I vote for more collaborations in the future!!
Thanks. Me too! :)
This was so helpful you guys ate amazing I wish you both so much success 🙌🏾 💖
Thanks so much!
Great collaboration!Very interesting content as always ^^
Thanks Maria. We appreciate that. :)
Great video!!!!
Thanks Karen
The number of scent options who you offer as a small business is regulated around here by the fact that you need a data safety sheet that costs 240$ each for every scent/wax combo.
Interesting to know and thank you for sharing!
this is super helpful
Great!
Wow, I love you guys, I learned too much!!! As a golfer (who is not good) a motorcyclist and the mention of my Jess Hawthorn sweetheart and the mention of things I’m afraid of like tiktok and being the face and my four photos... this is save worthy... I never save anything!!!! Wow 😳 🤩 I feel so blessed today!!! Im a research and tester bunny, I literally thought of hobby lobby and that forced me to do my research, skip the starter kit order a loot and get it cracking, lol... I’m wordy b/c I’m always in the lab, but bottom line ... I’m excited, I’m checking to see if I’m coming over to watch Erica Tomorrow... awesome Collab guys. I’m intrigued
Thank you! Love your passion too! We enjoyed making the video so its nice to hear you all enjoyed it as well. :)
@@BlackTieBarn for sure. Thanks. You communicate you points very well. Keeps me excited 😊
@@sheizm888 I try. 😁 My problem is that I could talk all day about this stuff so I have to try to keep myself from rambling too much. 😄
@@BlackTieBarn well it seems you found the right outlet and you seem the opposite from a rambler when your audience like me, might be ramblers and get a chance to sit down and actually digest important information. Your style matches one of my personalities. It feels an empty space positively. 🌟...

Hi Wade, LOVE your videos, and how o oen and transparent you are with your knowledge, it is soooo appreciated by newbies like myself who just want to be able to make the best possible candle... Have a quick question about the HTP wicks, I was just on Aztec and bought HTP-105, & HTP-1212 both said "New Yarn" so are the new HTP's out now?? Having so much difficulty getting wicks to even be able to begin the testing process, so hoping I bought the right thing!!! Thanks so much for being an invaluable asset to us "Newbies"
Lisa
Hey Lisa. Yes some of the new htps have been distributed to some suppliers. I wouldn't say they are... everywhere yet. But definitely trickling in. :)
Excellent
Thanks pamela!
Nice video!
Thanks Maria
Plans are good, but reality does not behave like your plan....
We always have to adapt, sometimes improvise...
Absolutely!
I enjoyed this very much. A question for you both, please. I want to design/paint some containers to use my painting skills. Acrylic paints and would seal them of course. Would this be safe for candles?
I have never painted any on the inside so I wouldn't feel comfortable answering that. I would research and read the paint specs and perhaps test it yourself. I know many people paint the outside, but I am not sure on that
either. Sorry I am not much help on this. :/
More collabs please!
Awesome! :)
I have a question that wasn't addressed (because it doesn't pertain to either of your businesses lol)... but I like to put pretty things in my candles, such as herbs, flowers, sprinkles, crystals, etc. When I do that, I make them wickless since they are a potential fire hazard, and then offer candle warmers. Do you think that's ok? Or is it still not a smart thing to do to add those items even if there's no wick to burn? Thank you!!
Edit: I loved this collab! I am a new subscriber from Erica's channel. 😊
Hi Samantha! Thank for subscribing! :)
I wouldn't see any reason why making them wickless would be a problem. Maybe include on warning label or packaging that it's a wicklesss candle and not meant to burn. Only use in a warmer. :)
@@BlackTieBarn thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate your input!
@@samanthaanderson1281 absolutely!
I'm just doing research and will be a beginner candle maker. The shortage of wax has directed me to buy #464 soy wax. My question is do I follow the supplier's directions on what temp I add my FO or do I add it at a 180 to 190 temp like you all mentioned in your first video? I know you mentioned that you have some issues when you add your FO at a cooler temp. 464 directions say to heat only to 150 to 160 and to add the FO at 140? Thoughts on this? Thank you!
Hi Jenny, 464 is one of the waxes that can work at different temps. And it seems like everyone has a different experience. I dont currently use 464 but will get back to experimenting with it again in the near future. My advice... I would almost ALWAYS start with the manufactured recommendations. If you dont like the results, THAN I would adjust. Hope that helps. :)
Great videos! Wade - I've been searching for a good sweet tobacco scent and can't seem to find one! Would you be willing to say which one you referred to in part 1?? I've gotten several samples so far and they've been either too cologne smelling, or smelled like baby powder? Thanks!
Try Aztec. It's not the strongest but people love it!
@@BlackTieBarn Thank you!!

It’s a tart wax called TW-30 ☺️
Thankyou but unfortunately I cant get that one due to shipping costs. I am in Canada. Wade's reccomendation was blend 6006 and 4625 but unfortunately cant get 4625. Grrrrr So frustrating.
@@cathycooper922 Where are you located?....There are several distributors for each of those waxes in Canada....
Everyone mention to have a story also sending emails. How do you get the emails.
can we blend essential oil and fragrance oil ?
You can, just be sure to test thoroughly. EOs can be weird in candles

No problem! :)
I cannot find ny video of people talking bout what they do with their waxes from failed test burns.can someone pls direct me to a video where they actually talk abt more of whats happenin behind the scenes? like what do u do with the failed waxes? how do u create multiple candles of different scents? do u actually wash all containers after each scent or does it not matter? and that plastic cups or saucers doesnt work for measuring FOs. also no one talks abt what people REALLY need to include in the starter kit. what kind of scale we need for wax AND the oil. i learned all these myself during experimentation but its sad out of hundreds of videos i have watched none actually did an in-depth discussion on those
Hey Gabrielle, I have videos on this channel discussing some of those specifically. But failed candles can be handled differently. Some toss them, some remove wax and reuse jars for testing. Some make firestarters for them, etc. I have videos using multiple scents. I dont "prewash" the jars if they are clean, but I do wipe with rubbing alcohol prior to using them. I also wipe down pouring pots between FO changes. I dont use plastic cups for measuring oil unless its a one time. Otherwise the FO will eat through most. I have a whole video on supplies I started with (including the scales I use).
I understand the frustration of not finding exactly what you are looking for in videos. But we do the best we can to cover as much as we can. Videos take several hours to make and record, then edit, plan, upload, respond to comments, etc. And we have our normal businesses going on at the same time so we will certainly not be able to cover every sub topic, question, issue. But... I try! :) I am also still a fairly new channel. I just started this past year and it takes time to get videos and content up. I already have around 80 posted. I think many of them cover more detail than you think, but I know it takes take to get through them as well. Most my videos are very in depth (in fact, I've been told sometimes too in-depth making them too long. Lol!)
But anyway, we are trying and doing our best (and for free). Continue to ask away though because I do base future content around questions people ask. :)
Thank Gabrielle!
P.S. Sorry for the late reply. Across all platforms, I get hundreds-thousands of comments a day. I get to most on time, just saw this one. Thank you again!
