I picked up a K&N oil filter at the local Walmart this morning in the clearance isle for .50 cents. Figured it’s worth that to use on my ATV. I run Royal Purple in my car and ATV, and have for years. I’d love to run Amsoil, but it’s not available locally, and it’s pretty pricey if 8 qts cost you 108.00. A gallon of Royal purple is 35 I think, at wal mart, keep in mind, the “high performance machine” I use it in is a 2008 Toyota Corolla which I inherited from my grandmother around 4 years ago. It had 70k then, now it has 158k, I’m sure the oil has little to do with the life of an engine as long as it’s changed regularly (I change it every 3K) Edit- just saw u open up the filter, how’s the engine doing today? (04-05-2024) thansk
Engine is still real strong and going to do another oil change and filter inspection here in a couple months to look for trash in the filter. RP oil is great oil and I might use it this time around myself.
K&N is a good oil filter and I have used K&N HP-2010 Performance Gold on my 2014 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo many times and its way better then the OEM Motorcraft AFL 101, Ryco Oil Filter - Z516 but Repco Oil Filter Spin On - ROF80-S is also good. K&N is good in filtering the engine oil quickly and Repco ROF80-S is better in capturing more contaminants. Rumors has it that K&N oil filters flows the oil quicker but doesn't catch any " Contaminants ". Any-who good to see that Royal Purple is a better filter
I found the K&N flows better, but RP filters particulates better. I need the filtration, my oil pump is stout so flow isn't an issue. I heard there's a Fram that's the same as RP and Amsoil, but I had a Fram fail once and I said never again, doesn't matter if it was solid gold, kinda spoiled it for me ya know?
Amsoil signature series and a Royal purple oil filter 😮? Unfortunately brother some of us just ain't made of money like that 😢. I'll stick to my Purolator Boss and Pennzoil UltraPlat
A fellow traveler from Project farm. AMSoil absolutely is the best oil you can get by itself, but you can do better for cheaper, all based off Project farm test videos. Add 10 percent of your total crank case oil capacity with synthetic Marvel mystery oil, then add 3 ounces of Motorkote per quart of oil that your engine can hold, then fill her up the rest of the way with Royal Purple. The MMO and Motorkote improve cold oil flow and lubricity beyond AMSoil, while all together costing around half (by volume) of what AMSoil costs. I've used both in all of my cars, and I'm going with the Royal Purple blend everytime from now on.
IF MONEY is no object get AMSOIL or Redline. After that Royal Purple/Motul/Pennzoil Ultra. BUDGET OIL VALVOLINE EXTENDED PROTECTION HIGH MILEAGE. But if you change your oil Every 5000 miles or less it might not matter a whole lot. FROM EXPERIENCE AMSOIL made my car the QUIETEST @@fasnuf
You should check out Tribodyn oil, ive been using motorcraft filters with it lately, but now im switching to a Donaldson filter since they look better than the motorcraft on the inside
What's the price for the Fram? I don't think I've seen it in the stores around here. I just pulled up a video and they do look identical inside. Thanks for the comment.
the Fram Endurance is more of an Amsoil clone than Royal Purple. Fram Endurance and Amsoil are 20 micron rated. Royal Purple is 25 microns. But you can't go wrong with any of them. The Fram Endurance is sold only at WALMART
i ran AMSOIL SS 0w20 in my 2016 lexus nx200t 3 yrs, 2 mos & 2 days, going 23,671 miles & my AMSOIL filter looked a lot better/cleaner than urz... wish i had a pix 2 show u, still hav filter tho... yes, i use & sell AMSOIL... i'm actually running the OE ( it iz their LEAST expensive )oil now & while i went 2 AMSOIL convention... wen my wife was driving thru, not so flat Wisconsin, she got 38.8 mpg, i only got 35.4... next change i will b using the NU, 'reformulated' XL... it now can go up to 20,000 miles... i do try 2 learn how each product i can use works... experience iz everything... 🤑
I've been running stock AC Delco filter on mine since I've had the car, and I used to run Mobil1 5W-50 on the race track, but nowadays I just use the AC Delco prescribed filter and GM Opel 5W-30, Dexos 2 oil for diesel engines. I've been running that for about three or four oil changes, which I do every 6,000 km. Since nowadays I drive my diesel wagon to work and back, the ZL1 just sits in the garage and rarely gets driven. You reckon I should have no problems with running that combo?
You're running diesel engine oil in you ZL1 or your diesel wagon? I'm not sure what you're asking. The AC Delco filter for the Camaro ZL1 is a 30micron with a paper element so I think there's better filters out there, but it meets GM's minimum specs for the stock engine.
@@fasnuf yes, I'm running GM Opel 5W-30 oil for diesel engines in the ZL1. The ZL1's manual only says that the oil has to be 5W-30 and Dexos compliant, and this oil is 5W-30 and Dexos 2, so it should exceed the required lubrication specification, no? Plus, the diesel oil has more detergent in it, so I figure I'm getting better engine cleaning; when I change it, it's light Brown, almost still Golden.
Yeah I believe 100% that the Royal Purple filter is definitely better than decaying and I have a lot of cars but specially the S4 Audi supercharger on it I run Royal Purple in it and let me tell you it keeps the engine cooler and we put it on the dyno and you gained 15 horsepower a lot of people don't want to believe it but you do Royal Purple oil is definitely a performance soil so and not respect you get more horsepower from the Royal Purple oil and the numbers don't lie on the dynos and just plenty of videos out there that they did Dyno testing with different oils Royal Purple oil keep your engine cooler with the temperature you can see and you do gain more horsepower from it we do a lot of racing in the canyons and at the tracks and Callie and most of all the guys there to have Lambos and Porsches and Ferraris they run nothing but Royal Purple in their car

@@fasnuf the real question is, do the GM's minimum specifications provide enough engine protection for the stock LSA engine, as far as longetivity goes?
I agree on the filters.. I also switched to Royal Purple HPS also. I swear my engine is quiter than it was with Amsoil and Mobil 1
I might try the RP oil. I'm sure it's great oil.

My oil gets a change once a year and it's about $110 so it's not too bad.
@gamingat420p6 Same, but i switch between PUP and Valvoline HM Maxx Life.
Purolator boss is a good filter.

Lots of shavings, filters are a compromise, flow vs filtering is a balance in these small cans.
True, filter inspection since show no shavings and Blackstone samples are clean. Weird
The Fram Endurance oil filter is identical to the royal purple oil filter, Manufacturers all merged together , cut one open and check for yourself

Yea, my sample came back a little high in aluminum and iron. Any damage done has nothing to do with Amsoil.
