On the outside, Johnny is the way he was raised ... as hard as his father, as cold as his grandmother, and as bleak as their land. Emotionally, he has never loved nor been loved. He has only known anonymous sex ... furtive, hurried and brief ... with nameless strangers. It is easy to believe he has never even kissed, such an intimate act something he would recoil from. Along comes Gheorghe, who shows Johnny what intimacy is ... what it means to truly connect with another person. That love scene in the barn, when Johnny's first instinct is to grope for the most sexual, but Gheorghe stops him and reaches instead for Johnny's hand, kisses his palm and places it on his own face, and shows him instead the tenderness and vulnerability of intimacy. It feels like it is the first time Johnny has ever truly been touched and caressed. Or held in an embrace. He is so hungry for human touch, it is as if the floodgate of emotions in him has burst. He clings to Georghe over and over, like a drowning man, as if he is trying to meld his body to Georghe's. The most powerful love scene of any movie, straight or gay. Without a word uttered.
When I saw the ending I cried my eyes out... I was so ready for one of them to die that when I found out that not only they didn't kill them but actually gave them an happy ending...I was so overwhelmed. We deserve happy endings
This movie was beautifully directed, acted and cast. Not a lot of dialogue is needed when the chemistry between actors is so fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about this film.
Josh O'Connor is a new sex symbol. His rare and shy smile is irresistible. The film is far beyond LGBT. It is a film about the beauty of the world to the creation, an hymn to life. A film of hope where life trials are overcome, where men forgive themselves and rebuild their faith in future. At end, it is a magnificent tribute to the farmers.
The movie makes such no big deal with the sexuality of the main characters that I kind of forgot about it half way through. Johnny's journey from being completely broken and on the verge of complete self-destruction to being someone who knows how to love and be loved in return was so much more engaging.
This is a story about LOVE. Real love that saves you and heals you... also I cried for a full hour after watching it. Now I know what my mom sees in romance films.
I moved to a foreign country and found someone who saved me and changed my life forever. At first I didn’t know what it was but then I realized I needed him in my life, with me, in some kind of way way Johnny needed Gheorghe. I’ve been lucky enough… --Such a great film. Great ending and cannot get enough the song…
This film is so powerful and I love how Johnny, who's always topped with his hookups, is overpowered by Gheorghe and that act alone causes Johnny to slowly fall in love with the guy. The lone inheriter of his tough as nails, daddy's farm. Johnny goes back to get Gheorghe and he won't take "no" for an answer.
I was deeply moved by this movie. I admit that I had some prejudice before watching it. I was hesitant to watch & was actually expecting something tragic to happen. I was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful ending it had. It’s a very heartwarming, touching story. The entire cast did a great job in their portrayal. The acting & chemistry of Josh & Alec felt so real!!! It left me wanting for more.. 😍
I came across this movie a couple days ago, I thought it was gonna be boring at first. I thought to myself "if this doesn't get more interesting I'm gonna change it".......well I just got done watching it for the 3rd time 😂 it really is a good movie! With a happy ending at that! And I had to look up this song! I will probably watch it again tomorrow 😂
You know, I didn't expect that Call me by your name will be dethroned by this phenomenal and beautiful movie as my top film ! I just watched this yesterday and I felt so hidden inside the vault by not seeing this for almost 5 years . I didn't know that this criminally underrated movie exists. It brought me to places I have never been and made me feel like I was being in love since 19th century. THIS IS NOT ONLY A MERE FILM, THIS IS ALREADY THE WHOLE LIFE!
I saw this and then I watched call me by your name in that order for the first time and really really really don't see why people even remotely accept that movie as good. I rewatched GOC multiple times and could only stomach CMBYN once..I felt the latter had nothing of value to take from it. GOC is so beautiful, it feels like a movie/story written and directed from the soul.
At this time it is the best at so many levels! I am open to any suggestions that you may have! So far it's standing up to the repetition test! I have seen it 5 times after DVD release date and can't find any critical comment, so for now 5 stars! Best!
Recently I have watched it as my friend recommended to watch. I am really surprised how beautifully they acted and directed. I cried when they met each other again.
Yes phenomenal. Josh's acting is superb. It's not easy without dialogue. The best to me are his expressions when he looked at gheorghe after injuring his palm with a rock and when he first offered gheorge his cigarette in front of a fire outdoors. I have watched this film about 20 times. Josh is superb. An exceptional action in his portrayal of emotions. He said some lines casually but i felt the pain beneath those simple words: I wanted to see you. Why did you just leave?
I'm so happy to have seen two breathtaking gay films within weeks of each other: this one and CMBYN. A lot of commenters are finding it necessary to choose one over the other, but the tone of each film is completely different, and they are both stunning in their own way. And the way they fall in love differs greatly. In CMBYN, the seduction is as intellectual as is it physical. There's a lot of dialogue, and it's a beautiful depiction of the meeting of minds. God's Own Country has barely any dialogue, and the way they fall in love is so primal, all in the looks and gestures, while nature pulls them together like magnets. I just adore both films. And the soundtracks, perfect. By far my favourite gay-themed films since Brokeback Mountain. I enjoyed Weekend and Shelter, but these two are just masterpieces.
Really, I don´t know why people just focus on comparing. They are both completely different, yet so full of meaning and beauty. Just enjoy the damn things hahahahaha I LOVED them and just can´t get enough of them. I really don´t even see them as "Gay" movies or just LGTB movies, for me is the story of humans feeling, discovering, loving, caring, enjoying one another. These are masterpieces of what love is all about.
Yes. They are so different. I think CMBYN is a movie such as pool of sunlight flooding in the late afternoon in summer, GOC is a movie like a very powerful ray of sunlight at dawn in winter... Brokeback mountain is like a earthy and fallen leaves smell in late fall. The most meaningful thing to me is that GOC's leading actors, who were poor n lonely n kind of wounded soul, finally saved each other. Anyway i love three of them. It just depends on the taste.
Que gran película de las mejores que se ha visto, visualmente es maravillosa y la química entre los actores impresionante. Ninguna escena está demás, todo representa algo o quiere decir algo y para terminar la banda sonora...madre mia!!! Un 10/10.
Alec Secareanu is without a doubt a star in this film. With that said, Josh O Conner is really something ! To see him as Charles in the Crown to Mr. Elton in Emma. and then this??? THE RANGE.
Thank you for the video! If you haven't seen the film, this video will help you understand what a beautiful and emotionally raw picture this truly is .... the film ends with this song, ends with a moment of hope. This film will definitely go down as a top 10 LGBQT must see.
You can watch this movie many times and still feel every feeling like "forbidden" love, being stuck, dealing with illness,, trying to hold it all together while falling apart, using sex and alcohol to forget our unfulfilled mundane existence. I also like the fact that Johnny's sexuality was almost a secondary storyline, people seemed to have more problem with Gheorghe being Romanian, then Johnny being gay, loved that aspect (showing how homosexuality is becoming less "vilified" then it used to be.
A film that saved me amid depression. I watched it when I was lying on the bed at an airbnb in Budapest, feeling sick because of the freezing cold near the Danube river, and depressed. It gave me warmth and hope. I listened to this song while walking alone in a foreign city. The weather was bleak, rainy and snowy, but surprisingly calming. To this day, the snowy-rainy Budapest still appears in my head whenever I hear this song.
I watched this movie last night, and it kinda reminds me of Brokeback Mountain. As a discreet bisexual guy.. I was crying when Johnny cried when he went to Scotland to visit Georghe. I even listened to this song every day.
After these few years I still can't withstand inside as I couldn't when I watched this film for the first time... I don't know, that's weird feeling... it's like they've embodied my dreams that I've been too afraid for many years to admit it to myself... It's really a valuable feeling.

I totally fell in love this film and this song...thank you for making this video. I can't stop watching this everyday. I want to see their new lovely life again.
This movie is seems like it’s real. Reminds of, never giving up, no matter what! It made me think of my self, made me cry, laugh, love. Loving and helping one another ☺️
I love this film. I bought it for someone special, thinking that he would love it as much as I do...but he never bothered watching it. Maybe he will watch it in the future, but I'll never know.
So beautiful and a perfect edit. I could talk about this film with people for hours. I've seen in 4 times over a weekend and still am watching every interview, review, trying to learn more elements about it.
every time I see this movie or parts of it, I remember the one who at some point was the owner of my heart, loving hurts a lot but in the end it's wonderful to feel that ... my heart broke into pieces when my man left me alone and cheated. I forgive you wherever you are, my Dutch liar.
Two very different movies with different sensibilities but I agree with you. IMO, this movie is a modern- day masterpiece and yes, I liked it better than CMBYN.

Thing I like about God's Own Country is that it was, at its heart a love story. The fact that it's between two men was quite irrelevant-it had none of the "coming out" trope in many LGBTQ movies.
Saw this last night: what a beautiful film. A raw, tender, passionate, sweet, romance that was depicted brilliantly - also an interesting look into the trade the characters worked in. One of the absolute best LGBT films I've ever seen; and romance/drama films in general.

Beautiful writing...
@Alfred Jr I think I'm not the only one who found you in other GOC-related videos since I searched the same videos 😭
Like a drowning man indeed. It's almost like it was too much for him and he was gasping for air.
Perfectly written
Wow your word to explaining is beautiful though. I loved this film too and I watched this for 5 times.
When I saw the ending I cried my eyes out... I was so ready for one of them to die that when I found out that not only they didn't kill them but actually gave them an happy ending...I was so overwhelmed. We deserve happy endings
We absolutely do. So tired of all the unhappiness in the genre. Many of us live that already almost every single day.

Gheorghe saved Johnny in every way possible. Such a beautifully told story. Loved it.
yes their relationship was so believable. Gheorghe was thoughtful and gentle but also wouldn't take his shit. He needed that
For sure. He's exactly what Johhny needed. Gheorghe's love saved him in every way.
You are so right he saved him in every way possible

My walls crumbled down when John said "I want you to come back."
And the way he says it , with voice almost breaking, but full of hope.
In that scene, my eyes fill with tears. John is magnificent.
Georghe whispers "faggot" to which Johnny replies "f*ck off". This is where I completely lost it 😢
My heart was pumping so fast
Please 😭😭

It is all that, but it's also the story of a repressed country lad who finally learns how to love another man.
The Roamnian guy is so powerful even the ruthless John melted by his power.
The movie makes such no big deal with the sexuality of the main characters that I kind of forgot about it half way through. This is a story about LOVE. Real love that saves you and heals you... also I cried for a full hour after watching it. Now I know what my mom sees in romance films.
MEEE. Struggles of being gay are missing out on romantic movies because all the ones you grew up were straight.
I also cry everytime I see the last 10 minutes of the film. For me it starts when Johny finally meets Gheorghe in the potato farm in Scotland.
How perfect is this movie? Seriously...

The days, passing days
I see the steeple and trace to the spire
And the sunset
Deepening red
Phoenix and the firefly
And the time stops
Rush hour traffic slows
And my heart starts beating this dark
Through old flesh and cold bones
And I long to be carried on
Just once to be lifted strong
Out of the loneliness and the emptiness
Of the days
Days, passing days
The days I remember
I had your love once
Seized my body whole
And our first dance
Well, I thought by chance
God had matched my soul
But time bought its traveling
This distance and solitude
And in that traveling, myself damaging
I took my love far, far from you
But don't you still long to be carried on?
Once more I could lift you strong
Out of the loneliness and the emptiness
Of the days
Passing days
Passing days
Days
Now tell me
Have we gone too far or did we get too close?
Forgive me, Father, I've no son, here come, ghost
I promise I'll meet you
I'll meet you at the end of the days
The days, passing days
Won't you meet me at the end of the days?

A masterpiece love this movie
Depois de tantos anos, eu nunca achei que encontraria um filme tão mais bonito que Brokeback Mountain. God's own country virou meu favorito ❤️
Esse filme é maravilhoso mesmo. Silencioso e tão perfeito ao mesmo tempo!
I have watched this movie multiple times and my secret about it is I always fast forward to the confrontation at the end... I watched it once all the way through but the ending is what I want to watch every time
Thing I like about God's Own Country is that it was, at its heart a love story.
O u
Just finished watching this movie makes me sad and happy to finally be together again 👬😘
