You know what's unfair? the fact that Love, Simon and CMBYN were given way more publicity than God's own country, which was so beautiful, an absolute masterpiece
Hollywood always gets more attention majority of the lgbt movies made in Britain and Europe and Asia and East are the best but due to little to no publicity they are pretty much unknown while awkward bad movies like Love Simon get all the attention
Totally agree with you. God's Own Country is a masterpiece. Although if I were Francis Lee I would feel very, very proud to have made a great and beautiful film that fell in love with millions of viewers around the world with little publicity. It has much merit.
God's Own Country gave me what CMBYN did not. I struggled through CMBYN because it mirrored my own life...I was Elio, fair, 5' 10', played piano of Jewish heritage. My Oliver was 6' 3", fair and athletic. We were ours for 3 years in college. It ended in 1972 due to the times, culture and taboos. It took me years to recover from the loss of Oliver, that was 48 years ago. We last saw each other 25 years ago. We were to meet in 2020 but Covid changed all that. We send a Christmas card to each other every year. The love we shared is still there. But we have married, have children and grandchildren. God's Own Country helped me regain my hope after the pain of watching CMBYN.
