I was scrolling through Netflix looking for a random movie to watch when I stumbled across this film that completely changed my life. I shared it with my friend who is a straight Muslim female, so about as sheltered from this type of cinema as you can get. She had to watch it twice just to get pass her initial judgement, but boy - did she love it. The storytelling in this piece is masterful, the actors incredible, just everything! Couldn’t have been done better by anyone in the world.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Finally there was an actor, whom I would like to applaud standing up)Josh O'Connor, you are incredible in this role. I looked at your interview after the movie and saw how different you are from that character in God’s Own Country .And this is the true skill of the actor, a complete transformation into the role.I fully believed as if I watched a documentary.Without superfluous words, you managed to show such strong emotions, such a transformation of the personality from complete degradation of personality, loneliness, emptiness to true love and faith in life. You gave hope to many people. You made me cry because of loneliness and despair at the beginning of the story and because of being happy in the final scene.I really want you not to be spoiled by popularity and you could always remain yourself the same sincere, childishly direct, cheerful guy! I'm sure you have a great future in the film industry. I wish you new victories and good luck!
I saw the film yesterday. Bought it on Apple TV. I did not know Josh O’Connor before the current season of the Crown. He is very talented. I enjoyed the film very much. I think Johnny Saxby really develops as a character and learns to soften up and open up to others, thanks to Gheorghe. Gemma Jones and Ian Hart are excellent as usual. A few scenes were very touching, especially when Johnny’s dad says thank you when his son bathes him after his second stroke. Great film! Cheers from Montreal.
Well I watched this film the other night and I've never enjoyed a film for a long time so much superb story line and well casted thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

One of the best films I have seen in the last times. Absolutely outstanding performances of all actors. Both Josh and Alec were so authentic in their roles. Brilliant performances. Congratulations
unpopular opinion, but i don't really like how people always seem to compare god's own country to brokeback mountain. there is a correlation, yes, but the worlds of those two movies are actually so different to one another: the scenery, the topics dealt with, the cinematography, the characters and their backgrounds as well as their development, the time each movie is set in.. both movies are AWESOME by just being simply awesome themselves, there is no need for comparison. i feel like by always comparing - and not admiring this particular movie without bringing up the other - we are diminishing it's essence and magic in a way.
Thank you for sharing this interview. The film is indeed Brilliant in all aspects. It is rare to see a good and intelligent interview. Of course more possible in the UK or Australia. Never in the usa. This was really remarkable in its honesty and yet not being sensational or effusive. The interviewer of course is to be commended because he asks thoughtful questions without the desire to titillate or sensationalise. Although he did seem uncomfortable or nervous at times. i.e. tying shoelaces out of the blue or fidgeting. But Thank you to him. Josh .... I love you for using the term "Queer Cinema". I say this as I have a particular dislike and aversion to the word gay. Maybe one day the homosexual experience will be a "gay life" but up until now for most it has been anything but "gay", often quite the opposite. Josh's thoughts which drew some applause were excellent and heart warming. And not to give anything away the "happy end" they speak of is sensitive and moving but not nonsensically romantic a la usa Hallmark or other overly sentimental and unrealistic stories.
The film was a superb and masterful production in every way. This interview was also amazing - at last, an interview with an actor about the craft/art of acting that is engaging, lively, interesting, intelligent and enlightening. At the end of it, there is a sense that the time listening was well spent.
I missed this amazing film while it was being shown in a regular cinema, so I purchased its DVD edition and found it really a very incredible film. The narrative was completely believable and all the actors were excellent in their characterization, especially the 2 leading actors (Josh O'Connor and Alec Secareanu), but special commendation to supporting casts (Gemma Jones and Ian Hart). Director Francis Lee did a masterful work in his directorial debut, and I look forward to seeing more projects from all these talented artists. (P.S. I also have seen "Call Me By Your Name", but in my opinion, "God's Own Country" is a superior film.)
Superbly acted and marvelous cinematography. Putting aside this love story you have the family dynamic. Its about love, loyalty and family surviving in the absence of real human affection. Most of the characters are just dour unlikable people but somehow its riveting watching these relationships unfold as poverty, illness, and caretaking end up being being the supporting players. Its just plain unique. One more thing - watch it twice a couple of months apart.
I adored Josh's performance in God's Own Country. Fantastic movie, indeed, uplifting and put a big smile on my face with that ending! In other news, that chair looks so uncomfortable for Josh. Poor man doesn't seem to know what to do with his legs!
I believe the movie is not about sexuality but about how Johnny found someone who transformed him and make him realized that what's missing in his life is love, which Georgi (i dont know how to spell his name bc of their accent) brought since he came.
He's so lovely as himself. I fell in love with his smile. Like him in Corfu; didn't recognize him from GOC; but his natural personality is love at first sight. You just want to wrap your arms around him.
Brilliant film......far better then brokeback mountain. We need more films with happy endings. All the actors were brilliant. Josh is the perfect actor for this role. Self hate is so common in the GLBT community and this film gives hope to those who hate who their are. Johnny is transformed because of love. A BEAUTIFUL FILM
What a great interview. I felt I was sitting there being part of the process. As usual, Josh is so open and honest with his answers. Love that . Love the movie and love this interview. Josh is and amazing actor that is mesmerizing in this movie. He is attractive, funny, and perfectly adorable which makes his transformation into this character even more amazing. This movie is a true testament to what an incredible actor Josh is.
Lmao as I started this video I was like, "I wonder if he's gay or straight?". Then I noticed his jeans, and once he leaned back awkwardly in the chair I though, "Ah, so he's bisexual then!"
That film was so REAL, so gritty and depressing- but that's life. Josh was sooo perfect, you could feel his loneliness and isolation alongside the longing he felt for Gheorgh. I was so worried he was on the brink of suicide throughout, I mean, who wouldn't be in that situation! He played the role sooo fucking well, so real- and sexy too! Damn they were both very sexy in this. Wonderful film
I don't think one needs to compare them since they are so different. I like them both. The settings and styles are so different. One has to take into account how diversified gay people are. They are arrayed from the worst criminals to the almost saintly. I have known the gamut. Elio would never have had anything in common with either of the characters in "God's Own Country," and those characters would have been completely out of their league in northern Italy with polyglots talkiing about classic writers and composers. The one thing they all share is love and passion. I, being an Italophile, adore "Call Me by Your Name." My Puerto Rican partner of 30 years, who came of age in the projects of New York, liked the brutal approach of "God's Own Country." His favorite European city is Amsterdam, mine is Rome. Two films, two different life experiences.
gain al : I like (LOVE) both. To like one better than the other is one's privilege but to judge the acting shoud be more objective and while I admire Josh for his superb performance, Thimothee's is amazing and more difficult because the nature and age of the character, 17 while he was 21, and also because he too had to go through a hard training if not so dirty. Josh's performance is more physical and extremely demanding but emotionally, the character being so primitive it requires less subleties and more physicality which is less difficult to express, but I understand that his (and Alec's) sex scenes are very commendable and appealing. Thimotee's looks, faces, voice are simply formidable in such a young and inexperienced actor and we should agree that in any case he has a much wider range of situations, emotions, and dialogues in CMBYN to show his acting skills. That said, Josh is sensational. And most of all I am so happy to have these two extraordinary films in one year.
My problem with CMBYN, other than the occasional cringey dialogue (example: the piano scene), is Armie Hammer. He was so fucking bland and wooden as Oliver that it really hindered the film. Not once did I notice his desire for Elio. That said, Chalamet was indeed very good. He was the force that kept CMBYN from falling apart 100%, but he wasn't enough as ultimately, it was a *romantic* drama. Still, out of the official nominees this year I would still pick him as my winner. God's Own Country, on the other hand, is just a much more sincere, genuine, and convincing love story. The work feels so much more personal and visceral. From the cinematography, the script, the twists, the supporting cast, to Josh and Alec, who had electrifying chemistry. Even without all the sex scenes I'd still be 100% sold on the notion that they are a real couple and that there's really a farm in Yorkshire in which they live in. It's frustrating that CMBYN is getting all the recognition and praise while GOC is being dubbed as "The British Brokeback Mountain" because it's certainly so much more than that (not that there's anything wrong with BBM. It's actually one of my favourite films of all time).
LOVE!!! love the movie, love josh's acting and dedication to the character and real understanding of how meaningful this film is to LGBT people and all people, love this interview!
This is a brilliant movie far surpassing cmbyn in depth authenticity acting direction and plot development. Sexuality is incidental to the plot...as it should be in life.

Breathtaking film and performances
i love him and his acting, he does great always
I like this film so much. Then i watch "The Durells" bcoz him
he’s PRECIOUS
The farmer is my new favorite person lmao
Why does he keep worrying about his socks and his jeans ? The cutest man ..Very lovely x
Thanks for this upload. Josh is a prince.
God's Own Country is so much better than CMBYN it's not even close. Josh should've won all the awards for Best Actor.
Agreed. I am definitely more touched by God's Own Country, CMBYN the movie is quite mediocre in my opinion, but the book is very good and moving!
Completely agree!!
gain al : I like (LOVE) both.
His character's transformation through that movie was awesome, compelling.
Enjoyed the movie...the end i cried
He's awesome and the movie is brilliant.

excellent movie
Such a good movie. Both Josh and Alec makes a believable couple. Hope there's a sequel 🤞
Loved it!
If you put Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne in a blender, so handsome! ❤️
i love him
I loved this movie so much more then call me by your name, it is so much more heartfelt and just overall better then CMBYN, in my opinion.
This is a brilliant movie far surpassing cmbyn in depth authenticity acting direction and plot development. Sexuality is incidental to the plot...as it should be in life.
💯
I just saw this movie for the first time this week and was absolutely blown away!! Josh had a powerhouse performance! But that being said how does one interview him as he’s a CO-lead and not mention anywhere in the interview, his co-star Alec Secareanu?? Josh is not acting in a vacuum. He’s acting opposite Alec so to ignore him when interviewing Josh is ignorant.
nice interview, thanks!
*sniffle* “Yeah it’s alright” hahaha
great movie, I would say the best. great actor
