I miss these repair videos. It was your videos that got me into micro-soldering. I can now repair just about anything that happens to a PCB. I still struggle/am learning the diagnostic process, but when it comes to the repair, I got that :) Love the channel!

This style is also called ”deadbug” and is pretty common in the DIY-synth world.
If someone is interested you should check out Juanito Moore here on YT. He has built a whole modular synth using this style and he also uses cardboard as pcbs and panels. Also tin cans and lids if i remember correctly.
Check out his video where he builds the 808-kick circuit for example, in the end of the vid when he test the circuit you see his whole modular setup.
I think its pretty cool. You can build whatever legendary circuits you want for 0,1$ if you skip the hardware and just invest in the components needed. Cardboard works fine for home-diy’ing and learning puropses. Tin can lids make great panels.
It’s not my style at all but i do think it’s cool.
I’d rather have a gigantic modular in cardboard i built for 50$ than buy the same modules for 5000$. Same shit.
It cost 5$ to order 5 manufactured pcbs from JLCPCB with shipping to Sweden included and you can get whatever customized pcb you want that way. Thats more my style. Kicad is free and very quick and easy to make pcb designs in.

air wiring is so sloppy looking though. prone to vibration damage so bad haha. im guilty of it sometimes myself if i want to do something impermanent. i thought dead bug is when you use copper clad pieces to provide isolation?

Theremin is basically only a audio signal (sine or slightly triangular wave) generator, and you can only change frequency and amplitude of it. The audio signal is practically the difference signal between two higher frq oscillators and the player forms a physical part an "adjustable" capacitor of one of those two oscillators just by moving his hand near the "antenna" which is in fact a part of that capacitor. So in fact Theremin is not so mythical thing because even if it seems magical, you practically only can change frq and amplitude of that thing by moving your hands in most peculiar ways, but still you cannot control anything else than amplitude and frq. So if theremin does not work well, it can be more interesting instrument than a fully functional one.
If I remember correct, The Beatles wrote a song about Theremin. Name of that song was Heremin, Theremin and Everywheremin. 😜

I mean at least it works, but you've gotta be bloody kidding! It looks like some high-schooler's floxillator science project or something! They couldn't even 'design' a matrix board version of this thing?
The way this thing is built it looks like a prototype. Or maybe the original pcb was snapped, fried, or fubarred somehow, so they just jury rigged another circuit together to get it going?
Good job you got it to be 'playable' anyway brad!

This is the instrument that made the weird sounds during early sci-fi and horror movies. There are folks who can play therimins really well, even down to using it to imitate human and animal voices. The instrument shown here is crudely made-guess it just works. If I can remember one antenna controls pitch, other the volume.

Hello Brad. You could probably build a metal detector out of that circuit. I built a BFO metal detector out of a schematic diagram from a website several years back. It was a just for fun build. You’d set it to just a barely audible threshold frequency. Was it detecting the ring on your finger the whole time? I had just noticed towards the end of your video.
