Juan, in the intro to Guidum, Abe says his *parents* come from Trujilo ... "a tiny village of Honduras, inhabited by Garifuna (sp?) people, descendants of African slaves..." Abe was born in Mexico City ... apparently his parents moved there before he was born. They still spoke "Hunga Hunga" around family though, as he tells it.
John Phillips appears only on their first album "More Than a Feeling". Justo had a "guest solo" on there, and one can only speculate what might have happened otherwise. I've never heard it discussed ... maybe I could ask Hadley or Harlan on FB sometime, but I'm not *that* close to them ... it's mostly just "Hey, how's it going, love your stuff..."
I think John Phillips had left the band before they recorded 'Give Your Love', and they brought Justo in to fill that track. Justo may have been John's permanent replacement by then. John and Justo were both excellent players. Different styles though. In my opinion, John played with more soul, more of an edge. And he could hit those high notes! (Listen to his solo on the song 'More Than a Feelin'). Justo to me seems more like a traditional jazz player, playing long impressive solo lines. Both wonderful musicians!
Thanks for that info. Just talked to Hadley on Facebook ... the screamin' high solo on "More than a Feelin'" (title cut to album of same name) was indeed Mr. Phillips.
lack of jamming from the singer I guess. This is a great song and I think singer would show up more sudden higher registration, untunned in a few moments but sounds cool anyways! ;)
lastima que un grupo cuyo significado del nombre de dicho grupo signifique COMUNIÓN y aya protagonizado tantas separaciones por parte de los integrantes, que finalmente llevaron a la separación de dicho grupo KOINONIA.
