I remember I was waiting for his tour on that year and suddenly I hear in the radio he passed away , a real sad moment for a guy like me who always followed his life and music. Same year exactly a month later I had 3 heart attacks and a sixtuple open heart bypass surgery that I survived. His music is and always be a good reason to keep my life "running" God have you in his arms always AL..!!
Mars 2024 🇫🇷
Longue et belle vie à vous avec vos souvenirs de Alwin...
J'aimais ce phénomène depuis 50 ans 😢
Repose en paix 🙏
Alwin
😢😢😢😢
Same here I saw him in Chicago, and he was coming to Seattle, I was so excited, then he fell asleep in death, broke my heart.

Love the sixtuple ! Good to mention .
Breaking Away album literally saved me from depression a time or two. Love so much Al Jarreau
The best ever jazz vocalist. Total appreciation. You'll be truly missed
100% agree, My old friend with Bobby Lyle on Fender Rhodes...amazing. Have loved Al for 40+ years. RIP x
Heard Al the first time when I was a student and 24 years old. Now I m 64 and still listen to him and his voice. Miss you. RIP Al.
I have been listening to Al jerrau since I was 15 years old and now I'm 63 really miss my old friend!!!
I have loved Al for so long. I have a friend (RIP), Bones and whenever I hear this song, I cry in remembrance.
RIP Al Jarreau what a great performer you will be missed.
George Duke too!!
Unique!
Can spend hours with Al Jarreau. No one like him.
@@ManfredElsingBielefeld Yes Sir, Very much George Duke. God Bless you for saying that Sir,
@@gaylapulkkinen9541 Do you know how many time I listened/listen to this song?? Miller High Life (Labor Union made) and wine?? And listening to it now and getting emotional. God Bless You Sir
When one of my lifelong friends passed unexpectedly, I read the lyrics to “My Old Friend” as Al captured my musical heart in the early 1970’s and his wonderful words poignantly captured my friends influence over all of us.
What a lovely man, beautiful talent, and kind spirit. Al Jarreau, Take Five is how I got through undergrad. I listened to that record every morning as I prepared for classes. The songs on that double album motivated me, soothed me, inspired me, and helped me to get through whatever challenges and obstacles I faced each day. I was fortunate enough to (many years later) tell him personally how he helped me to "get by." Meeting him and having an opportunity to hang out with him was one of the high points of my life.
I was fortunate to see him perform many times over the years, right up to one of his final performances. I am thankful that the Earth was graced with his talent, spirit, and presence. You are missed.
Okay I'm 59 years and when my best friend of 50 had her birthday I sent her a link to this song, she said she listened to it over and over. We talk everyday and sometimes think back on the the days of sitting on the curb talking. She is truly My Old Friend.
The best Jazz Vocalist ever!!! Thank you sir Al Jarreau for the memorable music
Among my most memorable life experiences, the birth of my daughters, seeing grizzly bears up close in Alaska, and seeing Al Jarreau in concert in the 80’s as a college kid. I can’t overstate how amazing that concert was, and he will always be my favorite artist across all genres.
Totally agree Mark. One of a kind voice.
@@RBS314 I am right there with you!
The background vocals! Truly regret not appreciating Al Jarreau when he was among the living. I'm grateful that I can watch these videos.
Me too! Was thinking the same thing right now. Never too late, but not the same.
One of my regrets. Never seeing this master in concert. Arguably the greatest ever.
the backgroundvoices are also leading to quincy jones musical compisition works.
Absolutely beautiful. What a loss Al, Maurice, George - we miss you. If this video doesn't get you back to real music and vinyl nothing will.
Okay, that is really singing. He could hit the perfect note as a - Saxophone 🎷 trumpet 🎺. I could go on but Feb. 12, 2017 will always be the date that Al started in another choir. Love 💕 love me some Wayman Tisdale he came to the party late. But wow if you get a chance, check him with Ann Nesby Layla Hathaway, Boney James etc. Also Gregory Porter has a nice vibe in the field. Peace and Love
You mean Maurice white from ewf
Al was, to me. the greatest jazz/jazz funk male singer ever. Huge love for this man. RIP both him and George Duke x
From the beginning I heard Al singing Al always with me. Vinyls, cassettes, cd Walkman, Still with me … with tears.
We miss and love you Al Jarreau!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. You and George Duke.
Tears, tears and more tears. George, Al, Maurice all gone my heart hurts and rejoices for the Lord giving and taking them from us
All my boys
Ronald Bell also Joe Sample passed away too a year later after George
More tears
I hear you brother ,,,,The Best,,,,,,,:{
@@timbuktug3321 It has been a bitter/sweet period over the past few years
What a terrific singer! Such a great presence & does a “superior” job singing Al Jareau’ song!
this song takes me back to simpler times, when there wasn't so much hate, thank you and God bless you al.....
He came to my small town of Port Elizabeth now known as Gqeberha I 1990 if not late 80s...at the then University of Port Elizabeth. I was smitten when I got an autograph from him....kept it for the longest time. Love ❤ you Al J...sorely missed
Black people have never known those times.
Miss you Al. You didnt just have a great voice, and great songs. You also brought heart to what you did. Love you.
Gunique
In the late '80's my husband and I were in London. I told him I wasn't going to spend any more on souvenirs. We walked pass a ticket kiosk and I saw a poster with AJ's picture and noticed that he was performing that evening at the Hammersmith Odium. WELL, in a flash we were inside to get tickets to the show and directions to the Odium. We didn't bother to go back to our hotel. We went to the theater early and ate nearby. AND WHAT A SHOW.!! It was midweek and the place was packed. Such a great experience!! I remember seeing AJ and Dukie on a Smooth Jazz cruise (can't remember the year), and they were great.
Morning refreshes my day every time I play it 😊
Old friends band still existed and performed. What a marvelous performance. Koodo.
Rest in Peace King...This was towards the end of your journey...I can tell, but as i read, you continued singing, doing what you cherished second best, I guess. Thank you for the many years we spent together...you, me, a turntable and a CD.
Beautifully said...... with Love......
I am so blessed I was able to see him in Phonenix downtown with George Benson...He is a legend is a understatement ..no joke folk.
Just wow...This man AL Jarreau was a true Minstrel in every fibre of his being!
I still can't believe he is gone! Though the word Icon seems overused, it is a task to find ANY other word that could appropriately describe his genius!
Al Jarreau was brilliance, genius, and a musical phenomenon that blessed the hearts and "minds" of millions.
Al you are missed, you are celebrated and loved always and forever!
God bless You Sir...May you continue to Rest In Heaven Eternally 🙏 ❤
Al and George ,you both will be truly missed. Keep making beautiful music in heaven My Old Friends.
My mentor Al Jarreau! He taught me that the sun still shines!🌞 I love you Al! Rip! Legendary!🔦🔦🔦

His greatest gift to the world was to help the rest of us get through it. ❤
I see and hear this man and it brings tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful soul. I'll bet God greeted him personally when he went to heaven. RIP dear man.
RIP...Al Jarreau , simply the best !
Larry Williams. As usual - just WOW. 👍
Absolutely. Hell the whole Band.
What a great performance! He was the best smooth jazz vocalist since I saw him in concert. So sad that Mr. Jarreau passed on. Thank you so much sharing this video he will truly be missed.
Mornin' et le sourire revient chaque fois depuis la création d'Al ☺
Music genius. Great artist. This was a man who was born with the happiness gene.
Even though I know someday we all have to leave this world, I hear tributes like this and see many of our most incredibly talented Icons passing on to Rest In Heaven, it is still so hard to let go and accept that this era of so many of our musical and acting geniuses are leaving us one by one yet continue to celebrate their legacies.
I will miss them greatly🥺😔❤❤🙏
The man with the orchestra in his throat. No one can ever replace him. No one
Просто гений!Таких больше нет...
One of my favorite artists as I listen to him each day. May he RIP and thank you for the beautiful you gave this world…..

You left us all some beautiful music 🎵🎶
Even though God called you both back home I still tear up listen to your music in regret of never getting to see nor meeting either of you in person.
Great song. Watch this everyday !
So grateful to have met and experienced him live in an intimate setting not long before he passed. A dream come true to sing with him after years of doing so in my room as a child on up. He was a loving and humble man forever celebrated, loved and never forgotten. 🎉🎈🎵🎤🕺🏾❤
J'y étais et c'était vraiment un grand moment, l'humanité de cet homme se ressent dans toute la salle.
Tout simplement magnifique
Still an old friend after all these years. Still has great pipes. He was able to sweeten and whisper a beautiful song.
After five seconds Al brought a smile in my face. Heard him live about 15 times. Thanks and love, Al, rest in peace. Also cheers to this band, which was with him on tour the last years. Great guys!
I miss him very much. He’ll always will be my favorite jazz singer.
Who cannot love this man...........thank you Al
I can recall those warm summer days.
No decisions.
Child's play.
Did they slip away?
Gone forever.
Gone forever.
Lost to yesterday.

Always there my old friend.
True until the end of time.
As I walk down streetsfull of amber leavesI see nothing's reallychanged at all.
We're just older now.
Still together, still togetherafter all these years.

Unfortunately nobody........
@@asparouhbankov692 Sigh ... impossible to replace Al. There's nobody like him.
He won't be replaced .....one of a kind.
There was this girl named Whitney…
Love you Man!
Very emotional song for...First because of AL Jarreau, himself, for making this and a slew of other hits that seemed to speak to my soul, in the various episodes of my life story from teens onward. Secondly, for the very, very that I bestowed the title "friend" upon; for me to consider anyone a friend is a very special thing and it's all based on trust...His lyrics says so much more than I can say. R.i.p. uncle Al....
Many years ago, when I had only two jazz CDs to my name, one was a compilation of Sarah Vaughan's best and the other Al Jarreau, the one with Come Rain or Come Shine, My Favorite Things, Stockholm Sweetnin', Sleepin Bee, The Masquerade Is Over, Sophisticated Lady, ... I cannot say how many times I listened to that CD! Fast forward about 40 years, and I am a lunch-time habituée, a regular, at a casual Paris restaurant with interesting, healthy food, run by a Franco-Korean husband & wife duo of chefs, called 'Yeno', the name of the Korean lady cook. Turns out she is an avid fan of Al Jarreau, listens exclusively to his music, has been to every single one of his concerts in France, and every day, as the place empties out after the lunch crush and her husband leaves, she puts on her Al Jarreau tapes, and we stay on and sing along and sometimes dance. She's delighted to find customers who share her love of Al Jarreau and know all his music, too. Mas Que Nada, Aqua De Beber, Your Song, she's got all of his titles, and it's Al Jarreau forever in this casual place. She had tickets for Al Jarreau's next scheduled Paris concert, soon to take place, but it was cancelled because Al passed away. It was heartbreak for this super Al Jarreau fan. The restaurant closed down and we no longer sway, swing and jive to Mr Jarreau with our former Korean friend. (His rendition of 'Take 5' live in Germany (available on YT) is still mind-blowing.)
Love this. This song ministers to my soul!❤️
Miss him soon much! Just a man who jammed and loved what he did.
Rest in Peace Al Jarreau . Mighty Jazz singer for life God Bless you.x
Al Jarreau sempre nel mio cuore, mio ispiratore in 40 anni di musica di altissimo livello, per veri intenditori, la tua voce è sempre presente in me, grazie di esserci stato.

Rest in Power and Peace Al !!!!! One of My All Time favorite songs ......
I cried watching this.
Al also seems to be crying at the end of this video. Something between happiness and sadness cause he lost his brother. There is a video from George's funeral with Al speaking about George on UA-cam. Very touching.
funklover24 I saw that video too.
I Love this song and Him so much!!! Look to the Rainbow!! One of the greatest Live Albums of all time❤🎉🎉🎉
Fantastic! R.I.P.
Love this song - can listen to this forever ✌️🥂
When he sang the lead for moonlighting and I would stay at home so I could hear it on television. When it was over I would go too the bar.
