Plus, dang it - for me it at times it was as if my PTSD kicked in and I was in a video watching myself with my kids while this butthead was trying to verbally etc knock me down. I may not be someone that one should try to lay hands on me or knock me down with nasty words because I will stand up for myself, my children and friends, and I stand tall and hard…until I am alone again in a room and dang, out come the jello legs!

Rhianna was a victim of an abusive relationship and Eminem...well..we know he had his issues as well. Eminem writes his own songs...he won't use industry ghostwriters! He wrote the lyrics and Rhianna said "He wrote them so accurately"!!! The way he described it was just so..realistic! I know Eminem never saw or grew up with an example of a healthy relationship! I dont know much about Rhianna's life...other than ...thankfully she did get out of her bad relationship! With Eminem a lot of the abuse was him clapping back at her with verbal abuse through his lyrics! They did have a few times when things got out of control....sadly. Abuse comes in many forms...

Which is sooo relatable, i got out because i saw the statistics on children witnessing abuse going on to be abusers or be abused. Sometimes you need to think of others and not how you feel about that person. Its alot easier to acknowledge it's not healthy for those you care about rather than yourself. This song came out not long after I left my husband of 15 years. He was an alcoholic, drug addict, and very abusive and manipulative. He told me he was bi-polar, but later he was diagnosed as schizophrenic, then with borderline personality disorder. I finally left and ended up broke and homeless with my three kids. It was the best choice I ever made. I've been on my own since then. I just didn't trust I could make the right choice in a new partner and I didn't want my kids to suffer again for my mistakes. No regrets. Only a life of happiness, free from abuse and pain.
This song hit hard for me when it came out. Eminem is a genius. I've been a huge fan from day one.

We didn't have any essays on music (story esseys mostly) but like there was few years everyone would bring a song and everyone would rate it and then see who wins. More lax kinda day. I took Like Toy Soldiers and the teacher was a bit mad since there is some cursing in it (I was in third grade I think, like 8-9 years old) and I got last in the competition, not even by disqualifying but points. Funny thing was that there was this oldold mtv type of channel that only played music videos and after Like Toy Soldier started to play heavy on there, everyone came to say to me how they actually like the song a lot suddenly now. It was so funny that they just gave it 0 points and week later are jamming to it when the video came out and it's super popular 😂 Just a funny memory. Next year I on purpose just from spite brought a song that I knew would win and it did, there were couple pupils who got into their feelings yelling I don't even like the song as I would be cheating 😂 (I actually did like it but it wasn't something I would have brought to show my taste in music, I just wanted to make it clear how it's just a popularity contest of what song was on heavy exposure thru differend mediums back then available and from those songs pick one that boys and girls both would give points to). Fun times

"Just leave, just end it" it sounds so easy, but let's not gloss over that leaving an abuser is extremely scary and DANGEROUS! The time shortly after leaving is when an abuser is most likely to become a murderer. To people who have never been with an abuser it seems so easy, it's really hard to get out, emotionally, financially, physically, all hard. Abusers are great at making sure you feel loved long enough to get you isolated, financially dependent on them, and trapped (ie married or baby) before they show their true self. The good times are fake, they're actors, they're pretending to be romantic and kind and all that, it's all a manipulation tactic. The nasty side is the real them.

When I first heard this song, there was talk about how awful it is to sing about such a messed-up relationship and if that song shouldn't be banned from radio where children could hear it because it glamorizes violence.
And all I could think was: "Who in the WORLD thinks this song glamorizes anything?" This song is SO descriptive about how a bad relationship works, what pattern it creates, how it makes people react totally against what they actually want to do. Eminem is, for me, the king of writing about such situations. He just has a grasp about how it happens and what happens later.
Soooo many of his songs play with that theme. Whether they are about actual humans or about his relationship with drugs or the music-industry - he just gets it and says it in ways that make me, who has never had a bad relationship with anyone in my life, understand how it works! And why it's so hard to quit.
So ... definitely check out the second part, "Love the way you lie Pt2", which is on Rhianna's album and Eminem is the feature. It give a bit more perspective about the female part in this relationship. Soooooo insanely good (I prefer it to the original)
And there is "Coffin", with Jessie Reyes, as well as "Good Guy" with her as well. She's just as good in writing toxic or tragic love-stories, and she fits so well with Eminem's dark lyrics.

love this song and your reaction. I grow up in this environment, then marriage into the same situation. it's saddens me that a spent 20 years living like this thinking it was normal with my children watching it all. I've broke the cycle ended the marriage and I'm working on healing. I never know what peace felt like till the last year. your comments are spot on. glad there are people like you to help people in those situations.

Great breakdown... I escaped an abusive relationship 7 years ago.. was in it for 10 years.. my life has drastically changed. I honestly owe it all to God. When I had nothing left I heard His voice down on my knees and desperate. I didn't know what I was going to do. I walked out the front door with no money and a suitcase, 5 months pregnant, and left everything behind. I was homeless for 7 months.. living in a shelter. I have now been very happily married for 3 years and have a successful career and a healthy household. Thank you Jesus for leading me!

I always said this was my marriage theme song. Divorced after 12yrs together. My next relationship was everything I wanted, felt like I truly fell in love for 1st time. 4yrs into it, after a fight escalated to me being pinned down having the crap beat out of me. I called cops to press charges, I was NOT going to tolerate abuse again. Police arrested both of us per "county policy", children services took my kids away from me for a month because I "neglected to provide a safe home"
None of the mental & physical abuse I've been through compares to what CPS put me through for years all because his ex wife took our arrest as a golden opportunity for revenge & called cps with a false accusation. CPS only cares about getting more funding, more families "in need of their services" = money. I'll never fully recover from the heartache cps caused. I'm traumatized for life.

I Love this reaction. I was in an abusive marriage for 20yrs. He physically and mentally abused me. He turned the Love that I had for him and I hated him!! He was in major denial. He denied everything that he ever did to me. Everything started to become my fault, everything!!! So I left him, we divorced after a year and he got remarried right after we got divorced. Now it's been 20 years later and he still talks shit about me. I found a really great man and married him, we have been married for going on 16yrs now. It's been Awesome. 🧡💜💙🧡💜💙🧡

    Good morning Tom,
This is a great song. It was a major hit when it came out, because of it's universal relevance and lyrics. I still catch myself using the phrase, "I can't tell you what it really is, I can only tell you what it feels like; and right now, there's a steel knife in my windpipe." I have said this just referring to the hardest times in my life that leave you at a loss for words.
Anyhow, this was done wonderfully and tragically. There is a Part II to this song that was released later as well. Highly highly recommend it!

People who have never been through IPV don't understand that usually there IS love in the relationship. Some people only know how to show love through violence and/or manipulation. That's one of the biggest reasons (next to safety and security) why it's so hard to leave. Love doesn't excuse abuse... it's still there.

Also a song from Jon doux he said he'll never do it again also very powerful song about abuse and the family dynamics . Love the way you lie shows how toxic codependency abuse can be from both partners. She says love the way you lie because she wants to believe that it won't happen again that it will get better. When she says stand there and watch me cry, it's her asking how can you stand there and just watch me cry, abusers don't comfort, if they don't see a problem making you cry there's a problem and that's toxic.

EMINEM never says a word in his songs unless he wrote it himself. He writes a lot in the same way I do if you look at one of his pages. He writes single words, lines, phrases, or bars in spaces all over the page slanted in all different directions to fit as many words on the page as he can and will take pieces from several pages and stitch them together into a song. Skylar Grey actually wrote the hook for this song for Rihanna and they leaked a version with her singing it. They also did a sequel to this song on Rihanna’s album called Love the Way You Lie Part 2 where he only has a single verse and the instrumental is very stripped back and really letting the piano shine.

    Hi Tom!! FAB reaction!!!!!
It’s been so amazing to see your channel grow - and to see how much more confident you are on front of the camera! I love it!!!!
Honestly guys, nobody deserves it more than you and Nick - such a special message you’re spreading and your energy is infectious!!!
Skylar gray (from I Need A Doctor) had already written the chorus, took it to Em and he wrote the rest of the track. Him and Rihanna then recorded it!
Gen Z (or whatever it’s called!) had a campaign going last year to ‘cancel’ Em because of this track - they said it promoted and glamorised domestic violence and portrayed it as acceptable behaviour! What nonsense!!!!
(And if they were going to cancel him for song lyrics he’d written 15 years ago - there are much worse ones than this lol!!!)
    Sending love guys! ❤️

That's ridiculous that they'd want to cancel this song... if anything it actually highlights toxic relationships and none of the lyrics ever try to justify domestic or $exual violence. It just let people in and gave them front row seats to a horror show that is sadly a percentage of people's real world relationships. It showed the manipulation, toxicity, violence, co-dependency, gaslighting, and how the victim can develop a type of Stockholm Syndrome for their abusive partner.
Yet again, awesome reaction! Love your channel and keep up the awesome content! 💚

This is what being in a relationship with a narcissist is like. It's horribly toxic. I lived in one for 20 years.. He kept gaslighting me and making me believe it was my fault when he beat me up or choked me out.. I also got sober while this was going on. I am single and I have been sober for 16 years. I live alone with my little Buddy. He is my emotional support dog. The bestest friend I have ever had. I realized I do not need a man to complete me. It took a lot of therapy to get here and I am much happier living alone..

This song has a lot of depth lent to it by Rihanna being a survivor of domestic abuse. She tried hard to look for the good in someone who didn't have good in him and focus on the things she loved about him. She was the perfect choice to be the counterpoint to Eminem on this track. He's encapsulating one half of the toxic relationship and she's encapsulating the other.

You end up with who your energy vibrates with. Frequency levels. Empaths tend to accidentally attract narcissistic people. The narcs go after the empaths and if they have energy levels around the same; chances are they get together. It's not about picking a non-toxic person. Most people don't get them.
