It's crazy going back through Em's catalog, growing up with it I never realized how much the drugs affected his music. Everything between 8 mile and this album is basically him hitting rock bottom and relearning how to rap. Recovery is when he found his fire again.
you think thats why it called recovery?
Em did not need to find his fire. If you research Em you will find out that he was on fire from the 80's till this day. And even the albums that have negative response have still really good raps songs.
@@giovannigio3764 Sure there are gems on Encore and Relapse but there's a lot of crap too. Still none of it holds a candle to where he is lyrically today, dude is a monster now.

Relapse was a great album though, even better than recovery

For random person this is just a great motivation song,
For the ones who know about Eminem history is this is the deepest motivation greatest song ever because he's not telling us like usual "do this,do that,don't worry" he just saying "just follow me".
This album is when Em became great again. He got sober and had to learn to rap all over again. Now he's aging like a fine wine.
and certainly not even thinking twice I would follow him.
I hate it when people say 'I want the old Eminem back' or 'he should start using again, because his music was way better under the influence of drugs and alcohol' What's wrong with these people?!! I'm just really happy he got his life back!!

I quit drinking cold turkey 2 years ago. Probably the hardest thing I've ever done, but now I feel like I'm on top of that building with Em.

I loved this reaction when he started dancing I lost it 😂
But can we also appreciate the “I’m going to raise it like my daughters” line because of him actually being a great father. Hailey is his only biological daughter and he literally adopted his ex sister in laws daughter and adopted his ex wife’s daughter from another dude. Plus, he had full custody of his younger brother as well so he wouldn’t be placed on foster care. Like, no one ever talks about it but it gives songs like this so much more depth. And really adds to the character of who Eminem is as a person.
That final verse before the last chorus gives me chills every single time. “I’d shoot for the moon, but I’m too busy gazing the stars. I feel amazing and I’m…”
I’m my opinion, Recovery was one of the BEST rap albums of all time. Every song is a classic about struggle or overcoming struggle. Try “Talking to Myself”

I speak from personal experience. Me ? I personally might never be free of my demons because like he said, "they're always there" but I'm stronger now and the price of not letting them back in is eternal vigilance.

This song comes from the same album as "Going Through Changes," which came before this song in the tracklist. I think it's fitting that they work together as two sides of his life addiction: The battle, and then the recovery.
Over the years.....just reading the comments under Eminems songs. I've read some of the most inspiring moments from people that credit Eminem with helping them get through some really black times in their lives! A lot of heart wrenching things people have gone through! These are the people... that thank Em for helping them through it all....get off drugs, alcohol, etc... Because Eminem has shared his pain and demons....he has touched so many lives in ways I've never seen before ...from any other artist! His fans are extremely loyal for a reason....😁

I'm a massive Em fan and when I first heard this particular tune it really gave me the kick up the backside I needed because I'm a recovering addict and I was trying 2 get clean when this album came out, Im clean 10yrs now but my point is this tune came out at the perfect time 4 me not saying this tune got me clean I did that myself but it definitely hit home... Em’s ALWAYS raised his daughter flawlessly and the two he adopted from Kim’s side. He never had to do that. He chose to. Not for Kim. For those little girls. He can’t treat his family any better than he always has. He had a rule that he made everyone follow. No cursing in his home. That might be a no brainer, but given how he was raised, he used that as an example on how NOT to parent. Look at his biological daughter, Hailee. She’s a beautiful, highly intelligent woman. She just started a podcast called, “Just A little Shady”. How cute is that? Em was an amazing Father and it shows.
I love this song so much it gets me so emotional, and the fact that he’s been sober for 14 years now?? Incredible honestly, especially in the industry he’s in. I’ve been struggling with addiction on and off for 11 years and this song just.. it hits

When he says he would shoot for the moon but he’s too busy gazing at the stars, I like your interpretation. For, me I always took it as the stars are much further than the moon, so he’s actually shooting much farther and multiple/infinite. Like, why just settle for the moon when there’s infinite past that level
There are approximately 200 billion trillion stars in the universe. Or put more simply 200 sextillion. That's 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000! The number is so big, it's hard to imagine.
I saw this one pop up and tuned in immediately! I Love this song! I learned to rap this (and over 50 other Em songs) track years ago, so I was rapping it while watching you get hype to it.
This song is my Top 5 favorites in all of Em's catalogue, hands down. Before you said, "Anthem" I said the same word! It is an Anthem of recovery; a triumphant homage to where he's been, and as hindsight shows us now, where he went. Absolutely love this reaction Tom! So many good memories with this track.

Like loads of Eminem fans, this song means a lot to me and has got me through some really hard times, thankfully like Em these are also wayyyy in the past!
Every year on Eminem’s ‘sober’ anniversary, he usually posts a photo of his new AA/NA pin with the number of years he has sober and then ‘I’m Not Afraid’, so this year it was ‘’14 I’m Not Afraid’’ (or sometimes he posts ‘Still Not Afraid’ lol).
This is a huge song and you got the meaning spot on! You were correct about the exercise/exorcise double! Go back and check out the ‘teeth’ wordplay earlier in the song too, the whole ‘fillings/feelings, crowned, capped’ etc, another clever use of homophones and doubles.
It’s a bit older, but Em’s track ‘Sing for the Moment’ is also super motivating, but in a different way. I won’t spoil it but he talks about why he raps, who he raps for and how he feels about all the bs that was going on in his life at the time. There’s an awesome Aerosmith sample too! You’ll love it!

This has been an anthem for me for a while. Love the reactions to see how everyone else feels about them now. When you have to put down a substance and never pick it up again, this is a good one for that. Because he’s right, the demons are getting stronger but so do you.

I would love for Eminem to agree to talk to you on camera to just see how on point you are with his music. I have a feeling you are more on point than you even realize. 9:11 - Yeah the exercise/exorcise double is one of the crispest because HE has them doing jumping jacks now. He's getting rid of them and they aren't strong enough to fight back as they are so they're exercising trying to keep up, which means he has to keep at it harder than them.

With the “exercise demons” thing, it’s also about physical exercise like gym. Like give em hell that they gotta work their asses off. They’re holding you back and so you become weak and make it easy for them. Time to kick it up and make them work if they wanna try hold you back! In this song Eminem talks about probably his most hated album relapse and how he agrees that album wasn't the best also. He said the random accents in the album were probably the problem which I feel lots of people could agree. Also this song is from the album Recovery which talks about how he recovered from the place he was in hence the title.

I’m 5 year clean from a 11 year heroin addiction. God damn this song speaks volumes to me and was one of the last tracks I listened too that helped me get help I needed.
