- Is Miami's best NY Jewish deli restaurant in a mostly Cuban neighborhood in Hialeah? For this Florida Foodie Vlog, I head to the legendary delicatessen restaurant Kush by Stephen's to find out with a classic pastrami sandwich, latkes and reminisce about Rascal House, Wolfie Cohens and do my best man vs food takedown.

Wow!!! That sandwich was a mile high!!! Everything looked delicious & loved the history of this place!!!
Svetlana would be happy to know I was able to fit it into my mouth LOL Somehow, the history of a gem like this makes the food taste even better Sunshine!
BF how do you find these places? You're a Miami legend
lol if you say so T, thanks my friend!
Wild Never knew they had a Jewish deli authentic like that in Hialeah Florida from a Jew in New York who is moving this week to Palm Beach Gardens I have to make the trip now because of your video keep up all the good work. Luv ya !
Thats awesome Bobby Mazel Tov on your mive and see you here soon! Thanks for the Luv right back at ya my friend!
The only time the Marlins ever get any fans....when the Yankees or Mets are in town! 😂And both are on top of each leagues...should be a wild post season. There are Cuban Jewish...all kinds of Latin Jewish from every Latin country in Miami! I just prefer the New York jewish food in North Miami Beach NMB or 41st street really Miami beach
There's no place like it Chris! Let me know what places you like so I can check them out. A lot of places like Wolfies went out of business.
The pastrami looked awesome. Does it stand up to Katz deli ?
Katz is hard to beat but especially for Florida this comes pretty close Joe
I went to the beach for the first time 2 days ago since living in Miami
🏖🏖🏖🏖
I went to Haulover beach 🏖 🏝 and I had a blast!!!!! I loved it and got sand in places I never knew sand could get into🤯🤯🤯🤯
Haha I know what side of the beach you were on! 😂 Glad you're here and having fun qq!
You mentioned Wolfies- in early 70’s there was Wolfies in Lauderdale , small strip center, I think off Los Ochoa-still have T shirt from there( doesn’t fit anymore) Is that the same Wolfies?
I remember Wolfie Cohen's in North Miami Beach and Lincoln Road, then much later they opened one on Glades road in Boca. I forgot about the one in Lauderdale but apparently there was one according to this article: restaurant-ingthroughhistory.com/2011/03/27/famous-in-its-day-wolfies/
Here’s an idea why don’t you do another foodie vlog this time take a trip to Surfside and take us with you. You will experience the real Authentic Jewish food and people there. Show us the beautiful synagogue(s) in the area and welcoming community.
Good idea Marcus! I was recently in Surfside on the bike but didnt stop to eat. Next time for sure
Barefoot, Is the Deli food just as great as Wolfs Del way back I'm the 80'and 90's?
They've been in business since '54 Christina so they gotta be doing something right!
Now I have to wonder how that joint measures up to Flakowitz in Boynton beach.
Great question! I haven't been there believe it or not but everyone raves about it. I'll have to check it out for sure!
Love your channel. Thanks for the video.
That makes me so happy Eliezer, thank you my friend!
Yes I remember Rascals
We used to go there
That Pastrami looks good
Wow Terry, you can be the new Anthony Bourdain with the way you share experiences. And the klezmer music was great.
Best compliment of all time, thanks Arnie!
HEY TERRY .....GET A LOAD OF THIS>> ..Though this place is out of business In Deerfield Beach it Closed about 5 o 6 years ago ...The best ny New York STYLE.. Pastrami Was at the Cove Bagel & Deli,,, My Friend owned it Steve Krevoy and his wife Karen ....YOU WOULD OF LOVED THAT FOOD THERE.......
I know the Pickel Barrel in Deerfield but never ate at the Cove Bagel. Sorry I missed that one lots of good choices down here. Thanks Jeff!
Great to see Kush by Stephen's has been around for so long. I remember going to Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House on Collins Ave in Sunny Isles as a kid in the early '70s.
I must've seen you at Wolfie's Domenick lol. I loved that place!
Yes, the Rascal House on Collins Ave. Loved that place. The building has changed owners several times. Nothing compares to the original 🏖
That sandwich 🥪 looks delicious 😋
I'm still full lol, thanks Robi!
If u like Jewish food you need to goto Miami Beach in the following areas Bal Harbour and Surfside which has a high concentration of Hasidic Jews.
I will have to hit up some delis over there for sure. Many have gone out of business unfortunately like Rascal house but others have popped up. Kush claims to be the oldest surviving in Miami since '54
When you drive Thru Ritzy Bal Harbour you will encounter Surfside which will have your favorite Jewish Delis better than run down Hialeah. If u want Real Authentic Jewish food then visit the follow: Josh’s deli, Kosherland, Rustiko, and Goldstein’s Prime.
Cel-ray, a pickle (should be kosher dill, not a cucumber that sorta knows someone), a geschwohlene hand-cut sandwich on rye with some mustard. Yeah, that's the ticket. The latke looks...eh...but nischt iz nischt. Now, a Jewish neighborhood embracing Latin culture? Yeah. The whole friggin' borscht belt during the late 50s/early 60s. Looks like growing up.
Great comment Argon thanks for watching my friend!
Great work Terry. Love the Jewish Restaurant. Glad I'm not hungry. LoL . 😆 💖💯
Haha me either Allan, still full lol! Thank you my friend!
What a hidden little gem. Quite frankly the neighborhood looks sketch but you stuck with it BF and wow what a sandwich!! The waitress was very sweet!! Btw Gina’s weakness is pastrami and Rye from delis. She was smiling from ear to ear watching you wolf down that baby!! 🥪 nice vid!! 😊🌴☀️🛳🦞🍺
Haha Gina knows what she's talking about! Hot pastrami on rye with mustard...yes please! Thank you brother!
Dear God that sandwich looks so yummy 🤤 Thanks for visiting my cousins .. Thanks for the tip definitely would visit this place!!
Thanks Benjamin!
Once Terry love the Foodie Video. But no Knishes??? Love the Pastrami & that nice garlic pickle( could hear the crunch!!)
I know Thomas but those Latkes were pretty good lol. Thanks brother!
I've ordered from this place on Uber eats but never went inside the deli. this video has made me want to go now.
omg the Frita burger is AMAZING. I usually go to the Kush in wynwood and it's amazing. idk how you eat ur burger but I usually get my Frita burger medium cooked because if it get it completely cooked it's dry. and then I notice some Kush places taste a tad different from each other ... sometimes. but overall the same. I think there is a kush in coral gables or down that way, can't remember exactly. yeah the Frita burger is amazing. I recommend it. I know it's about 15 or 16.00 for the Frita burger and some fries. might be pricy for some people especially because it doesn't come with a drink. but it's worth it... imo.
I didn't know there were multiple locations that's good to know. I like my burger same as you, nice and juicy! Can't understand how some folks like it well done because for me that's just too dry. I will have to try out the one in Wynwood thanks xo!!
Great video. So nostalgic for me. Beautiful old family photos on the walls. The atmosphere and menu reminded me of dinner with relatives in Bklyn. As a kid we bought knishes from a cart near our elementary school. We passed the money thru the chain link fence. He bent the knish and served it thru the open chain links lol. Thanks for sharing your cel-ray and pastrami with me 🥪
Wow that's the best knish story I've ever heard, Cheryl! Not sure if you caught my trip to NY when I went up for TG this year, but I visited Yonah Shimmel, the oldest knishery in NY. Brought back some tasty memories of Mrs Stahls in Brighton Beach where I'm from: ua-cam.com/video/p1T2wNJafxs/v-deo.html
Just stumbled on your channel. WE LOVE IT!!!!!!
So glad you found me!! Thanks guys!!
It's all about the steam table and the slow cook.
again - you are the south florida historian - well done - would love to meet up in delray with you this summer - we are ephemerists and florida historians by hobby - miss rascals and wolfies
DJL that sounds great to me. I'm a huge history buff and could talk for hours lol. Thanks for the kind words my friend
sandwich and potato latkas looks so delicious 😋 awesome history there; its perfect place for a date have some great food and conversation
Never thought of that Catherine! Thanks
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME place We so enjoy all your video's when we come to FLA we are going to look you up for a tour of all your hot spots. Enjoy Nick
Its always great when someone tells me they enjoy my videos. Thanks brother!!
Love this! only thing wrong with this vlog is...I wasnt there! love me some latkes!
Haha See you there next time Peg thanks!!
I used to always go to The Rascal House in Sunny Isles Beach...it was the end of an era when it closed.
I probably saw you there Dawn. The food was amazing but also a great people watching experience lol. Thanks!
Fabulous place. For me, eating out, on this side of the pond, is luxury. That such places can exist and thrive in your neck of the woods is fantastic. Well done for highlighting these family outlets.
I agree David. The stories behind these places and the atmosphere make the visits that more special. Cheers my friend!
Love it! Thanks for taking us along. (like 61) 👍
Thanks 3F!
Really really enjoyed this review ‼️ my Israeli honey used to live in New York City and went to most of the kosher Jewish delis and pastrami was always his favorite meat of choice 😋
out here in LA we have Cantors which is famous Hollywood 24-hour eatery- but we live in the South Bay and good Jewish delis are few and far between. luckily we have Giuliano's; an Italian one in Gardena and the Hat franchise, mostly in Orange county.
Oh my God now I'm so hungry but it's midnight ‼️😂
Take care,
Bee 🐝
Hey Bee! That sounds great. I always wanted to try that French Dip sandwich at Philippes I think it's called in LA but haven't been there. They look amazing!!
@@BarefootVlogger oh yes it's called Philipes and it's right down the hill from Dodger stadium and this is hilarious because I never went there until the day we drove action kid around and after we dropped him off we finally made it there! They have a ton of Dodger bobble heads on the wall huge menu board and we got lucky we got a short line anyway I think after we left action kid made his video there ‼️ I do believe he liked the famous French dip sandwich 🇫🇷🥖better than we did 😂
I give this video a 👍👍 up! Onward and Upward! 🚀
So kind James thank you brother!
Very nice review. Gotta say though that the bill surprised me. Nearly 30 bucks for 1 person for a sandwich. Kosher deli's up in NYC back in the day were very affordable. Now they are a rare specialty so maybe that's why the prices are pretty high. We used to get mile high round knishes for a buck or 2. Friends and I would sometimes eat them as a meal as we were poor students. They were incredible. There was more competition back in the 70's and 80's among Kosher deli's and they all had delicious grilled hot dogs. My father told me back in the 50's he'd get an entire meal for well under 1 dollar! Literally pocket change could buy you a meal at a Kosher deli and many other places.
Those were the days my friend! Believe it or not Hartley I thought it was reasonable compared to some others. I mean think about it, I spent $16 on a sub at Jersey Mikes...Jersey Mikes! lol so between the Latkes I had and a soda these days under $30 for all that isn't bad.
@@BarefootVlogger That's a fair point. Never been to Mike's but that is an insane price for probably mostly bread. If you took the filling out of the sub, you'd still be hungry. It's interesting about the latkes. I always got either the knish or fries. Kosher deli's always had very good and thick cut fries. I tried latkes a few times and they were not as good as home-made. There was a place in NYC called Pastrami King on Queens Blvd that was jammed with customers daily. I really wasn't a big pastrami guy but when I say they had the best fries I've ever had, they really did. Again I would go there sometimes just for an order of fries and 10-15 ketchups to go. The fries were well done, thick as can be, and unbelievably soft and moist inside. This placed closed down years ago yet I can't forget the fries.
Delicious Vlogg
I'm still full Richard lol. Thanks brother
That sandwich looked delicious! I have to go now to the Jewish deli over here that I've never been to see if it ranks up there with Kush's. 🐱
Thanks for the foodie vlog.
I hope your local deli has a storied history like Kush, Denise. Thanks for watching!
That was a good video my father used to make good potato pancakes
My mom made them too. The kitchen smelled great for hours lol. Thanks Dan
This place back in the day was the garment district....
I've been here live it. I'm a deli hound and remember Wolfies, Rascals on Miami beach...
Nothing like a good old fashioned Jewish Deli
No truer words were ever said Joe! Thanks brother
Great foodie Vlog Barefoot! You always do a great job in describing the food ( I could almost taste it); but just as interesting, you give us a peek into the history, culture and people. It’s like Food Network meets Travel Channel.
Wow thanks William! That's a huge compliment I really appreciate brutha!
I’m dying for this. Any fav’s further North? Thanks for this!
Pomperdales in Lauderdale was great but just ordered from there on Father's day and it was disappointing. Bens in Boca is good but I've had days where it was off too. Pickel Barrel in Deerfield is another one, but best I've had lately was Zingers in Boca. Thanks David!
@@BarefootVlogger Big ups, Terry for the information! These damn sandwiches are so expensive you want to hit the ground running with a good one when you fork out the big bucks! I absolutely know that you would know a good one when you saw one, that’s why I wanted your input!
Now that’s a sandwich! Really enjoyed learning all about the history of the deli. The staff is very nice and helpful. It’s nice and refreshing when the staff is able to give you the history of where they work. Sometimes that isn’t always the case. Now I’m going to a local deli and going get me a pastrami on rye. Definitely made me hungry!! Thank you so much for this video. I really enjoyed it
Haha hot pastrami on rye is a treat I always look forward to Donna. Thanks so much and enjoy your sandwich!!
If you didn't know, there's many, many, many, Jewbans in Miami. Not just Cuban Jews, but all sorts of people from different countries who are Jewish.
Of course MG, in fact Steven Bauer is a Cuban Jew. Like many other religions, Jewish people can be found throughout the world.
@@BarefootVlogger you sir are absolutely right! Maybe you should try venturing out to the west of the county, as I think you would be very surprised as to what you'll find on this side.
I would love to do that MG, that's my dream. Maybe an RV across the country and see places I've always dreamed about but never been. Hopefully one day the budget will allow and I will be able to do just that. Stay tuned my friend and thanks!!
@@BarefootVlogger I meant on the west side of Miami Dade County, not the country! Lol! And yes, the west side of the country is beautiful as well. Well anyways, the truth is…when you’re in Miami, you’re not in America!
Thanks I will be in Miami next week and will definitely visit this place
How does it compare to Katz?
Katz hard to beat but for here in Florida its close
By the way you can order from
Katz’s online direct I delivered to my dad in Florida once a year for Father’s Day
@@bobbyf7317 Yes! Goldbelly too for some classic pizza and NY food joints
I miss Jerry's Deli.
Famous Jerrys yep. Didn't they take over Wolfie Cohens before it closed? I think so
great find.....another for the list.....thank you brother
Lets get that list longer Phil! Stay tuned brother and thanks!
@@BarefootVlogger thank you have a great day brother
You too my friend!
The new rule for me is to eat before I watch videos like these. Ha! That sandwich looked absolutely amazing. When I lived in NYC I would go to Artie’s on the UWS and it was always amazing. I definitely miss places like these. Thanks for sharing!
LOL I have the same rule when I go grocery shopping BR! It's a great treat for sure my friend
Just found your channel. Looking forward to watching all the vids.
Thanks GP! Welcome my friend
An easy contest ,, that's funny Terry
I mean come on, right Devin? 😂
@@BarefootVlogger
Yeah,,, it's those hidden gems that are cool to find . The restaurant being in a once Jewish area was interesting .. I'd only be able to eat half of that monster...
Little Havana looked like a cool spot..
I had to watch this again. The pastrami is my favorite sandwich is always nice to know where to go to get the best one. Is there any place closer than Miami that you can get a really good one. I went to Flakowitz once and thought it was ok but a bit overrated
I'm with you brother, love me a good pastrami sandwich. Corned beef is good but always took a back seat to pastrami for me. This place is good! Thanks for rewatching
I will pass😂😂
I have been looking since Wolfies went out of business
Me too! Thanks for watching
On ward and upward celery soda. 😂 Love it.
Haha I haven't had it in years TaprooT. Always brings back memories from childhood. Thanks for watching!
OMG Rascal House
Those were the days!
