TRC Baetis! | A New Way to Use Biots! | Fly Tying Tutorial

- In this fly tying tutorial Cheech ties the TRC Baetis!
We’ve been playing with UV materials for a long time, but this fly not only adds UV properties to a biot. By wrapping flexible floss through the biot you add durability as well. The color combinations are endless with this pattern but in regards to size, a biot body usually tops out at a size 14 or 12.

Dang it cheech. I was just there yesterday now I gotta come back for the UV rib …. Nice pattern and well explained.
Brilliant idea with the uv rib great pattern
Awesome UV rib is outstanding that should hunt for sure thanks for sharing
Really cool tutorial and fly
Awesome!
I don't get much into the weeds of jig hook/complementary part placement compared to normal nymphs. But I constantly see on the socials guys tying the wing cases on the bottom (with the hook placed standardly in the vise as shown here) on some jig flies. Which- okay I get it. It doesn't really matter- but the same people who do that, never tie the tail fibers in upside down (with the dull side facing up) and that incongruence really bugs me lol.
Nice fly- I was lucky to be a forum rat when all the euro stuff was really starting, and got turned onto these biot nymphs early from guys like Aaron Jasper and Loren Williams. Add in the array of colors available from Hareline, Nature's Spirit, and others- and you could do a complete box of these and it wouldn't be a bad thing from Spring-Fall.
And this entire time I thought it was COQ!
So what was the "new way of using a turkey Biot? I've been doing for decades ! iN FACT I TRIM THE TRANSLUCENT SIDE OF THE BIOT AND I GET TWICE AS MANY WRAPS IN. The flex body I have and I've never used it as a ribbing. It is rubber and rubber floats !
Look at you. You're the hero we all need...
It’s not rubber. 😬😬😬 but I’ll be sure to check out your vids my dude.
lol... I was thinking the same thing. I can't see what is "new". But on the flip side, this is the internet, and everything is tied to sales and marketing, so hooks and hype are important.
Thanks for the comments boys! All the engagement helps!
I gotta get me some new biots. The ones I have are about half an inch long hah. I know how big your meathooks are and those biots are at least 15 inches long! ok maybe I dont know how big your fingers are...
make one with a fat head and a mustache and call it "diabaetis"
🤣😂🤣😂

it's an out of left field reference to Wilford Brimley.

Our #1 follower has returned!!!
Naming all these basic flies... weird. Nor is there any new use of a biot. This is a basic nymph. I tie the exact one with or without a wing case.
You didn’t watch the video did you…
@FlyFishFood I did watch, thus the comment. I also tie some w a flash underbody n stripped peacock herl or biot. Just a hint of flash shows. Or rib the biot in fine wire... just variations of a theme to add durability n sink. So yeah, I watched. It's a very effective fly tied in many variations
So you’ve done it with flex floss on the outside of the biot right?
